Walzmynvalorie: I've got 6 folders full of pictures. Two of them have little thumbs of a few of the pictures on them, four do not.02:31
AceKingI am trying to move a video file from my Video folder, to a folder on my network. For some reason, I can't get 2 of the video files to move. I tried kdesudo dolphin, hoping it would move them, but no luck. I moved those particalar files to different hard drives, but it will not let me move them to the network drive. It's driving me nuts. Any ideas?02:41
AceKing* Hoping it would move them using a root browser, is what I meant to say. I was able to move other videos over with no problem.02:42

The absolute path is absolute and it will never change, no matter where you are (directory wise). The relative path is relative to your current location. BluesKajHowdy all10:56
AceKingI am having a problem moving a couple of video files from my Video folder, to my network drive. I was able to move most of the files over, but these 2 particular files wont move. I was able to move them to a USB drive, but not to the network folder. I even tried opening Dolphin by using kdesudo dolphin, but it still would not copy the files. Any ideas? Also, the message that comes up says "could not write to smb://server/videos/Recital.11:25
AceKingmp4.part. There is no .part at the end of the file11:25
BluesKajAceKing,, what about copying instead of moving the files?11:35
AceKingBluesKaj: I tried that also. Same result11:35
AceKingBluesKaj: All other files moved over with no problems11:36
BluesKajhave you setup sharing for those files. and make sure they're executable11:37
BluesKajAceKing, that's all I can think of11:37
AceKingBluesKaj: I know, it's driving me nuts!11:38
BluesKajwhat are the file extensions?11:38
AceKingBluesKaj: It's funny how it will let me move it to an external drive, but not to the server. I even tried moving/ copying it to the server from the USB drive with no luck11:39
AceKingBluesKaj: .mp4 are the file extensions11:44
BluesKajAceKing, are those files the only mp4s ?11:45
AceKingBluesKaj: I think so11:45
AceKingBluesKaj: My mistake, I cannot write them to a USB drive either, only to another drive in my PC11:48
BluesKajdid you buy them from the ipod/mac store , mp4 files are usually quicktime files and could be unmovable to other portable devices11:50
AceKingBluesKaj: No, they are my videos. I just checked, and I was able to copy 4 other .mp4 files over11:53
ikoniaAceKing: did you buy them from the apple store ?11:53
AceKingBluesKaj: No11:53
ikoniaitunes video content is drm protected11:53

ikoniawhat is the actual error11:54
AceKing"could not write to smb://server/videos/Recital.mp4.part. There is no .part at the end of the original file11:55
ikoniaok, so it's going to be samba permissions11:55
ikoniaAceKing: how are you copying it - using the file manager or a gui or what ?11:56
AceKingikonia: I was using Dolphin to copy over the files, and when they didn't go, I used kdesudo dolphin and tried that way11:57
ikoniaAceKing: ok, so just try to create a file on that share, I spect it will say could not create file11:57
ikoniaexpect it will say could not create file11:57
AceKingikonia: You are right, the Create File option is grayed out11:58
ikoniaright, so your problem is samba permissions11:58
AceKingikonia: How do I fix that?11:59
ikoniaAceKing: depends on the problem11:59
ikoniaAceKing: is the share a windows machine ?11:59
AceKingikonia: No, it's a drive hooked to my router12:00
AceKingAsus router12:00
ikoniaAceKing: ok, so the router should have a username/password account that can access that disk12:00
ikoniaAceKing: you need to mount the drive/access the drive using that username/password12:00
AceKingikonia: Ok, I did that, and all other files copy correctly. Even other .mp4's12:01
ikoniaAceKing: well, it seems the authentication is now not available as you say, it's greyed out, which is nothing to do with the files, that's just basic authentication12:02
AceKingikonia: OK12:02
ikoniais the disk full.....12:02
ikoniaalways worth checking12:03
AceKingikonia: No, 33% full12:03
ikoniaworth a quick random guess12:04
ikoniaI'd put money that your authentication is now dead for some reason12:04
AceKingikonia: when I right click on the folder, and go down to properties/permissions it says "Can view content" on Owner, Group, Others. Does that make a difference?12:06
ikonianot really, as that's just viewing permissions,12:06
AceKingOk12:06
AceKingikonia: I just went into the router, and there was a link that says "Share with account". When I clicked it it says: Enabling share with account enables multiple computers, with different access rights, to access the file resources. Are you sure you want to enable it?12:11

falsobuiocan i change it somehow?19:41
falsobuioalso, how can i set dolphin to be the default app for opening file links19:42

MangaKaDenzait might be in firefox settings somewhere...19:45
MangaKaDenzaalbiet I don't use firefox... maybe try editing some conf file in home/you/.firefox?19:45
BluesKajKC_, sudo modprobe bcm19:45
falsobuioblueskaj, i have set the download location to be eg.downloads. when the download is complete, i right click on it->open containing folder and i get the message "launch app blabla"19:46
lordievaderKC_: Did you reboot after those steps?19:46
BluesKajKC_, correction sudo modprobe b4319:46
keithzgI think the culprit isn't necessarily firefox, at least not directly.19:46
falsobuioand i have to choose an app, can i choose dolphin from there somehow?19:47
lordievaderKC_: Also could you pastebin the output of "lspci -k|grep -A2 Network"19:47
keithzgfablsobuio: Yes, you should be able to.19:47
falsobuiowhere's dolphin though? in which folder can i find it?19:47
falsobuiothanks a lot for your time :)19:48
keithzgfalsobuio: You can find any program with the console command "which"19:48
MangaKaDenzafalsobuio: utilities19:48
keithzgfalsobuio: so for instance, I just typed in "which dolphin" which tells me it's in /usr/bin19:48
keithzgMangaKaDenza: Naw, it's the GTK or whatever program picker, which prompts you to actually point to the binary.19:49
MangaKaDenzaahhhh19:49
BluesKajfalsobuio, solphin is the file manager in kmenu>computer>home19:49
BluesKajdolphin19:49
keithzgBluesKaj: Again, not sure that helps him here, since it's Firefox prompting him to choose what program to open a folder with, and it's the GTK (or whatever, I'm not sure entirely what provides it) "open with..." picker that Firefox uses by default, which just makes you browse folders.19:51
keithzgPersonally I'm surprised though it isn't just using whatever the entry in /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache specifies for inode/directory19:51
BluesKaj 19:52
keithzgNormally the problem is that some GTK app like Thunar or Nautilus gets placed above Dolphin and so it launches that, not that it launches nothing. I would've expected Dolphin and KDE to populate that entry.19:52
falsobuioalright, it worked19:52
falsobuiopointed dolphin in usr/bin19:52
KC_wow...this caht went wack for a min19:52
falsobuioand now it opens the paths19:52
BluesKajkeithzg, he wanted to know where dophin is located19:53
falsobuioyeap19:53
lordievaderKC_: Have you rebooted after performing the steps of the guide and also could you pastebin the output of "lspci -k|grep -A2 Network"19:54
keithzgBluesKaj: ...yeah, because the program picker from Firefox was prompting him, no? Which is a file browser, so he needed to know where the binary was to point at.19:54
KC_ok...can i get link to pastebin?19:55
BluesKajkeithzg, it should have pointed to the bin by default19:55
KC_yes...i rebotted...no luck19:55
keithzgBluesKaj: Shoulda, woulda, coulda. I've had that same dialog point me towards my home folder before.19:56
