[02:51] i installed dropbox what category is it under i cant find it [02:51] i installed it but cant find it to open' [02:51] internet [02:52] nope i checked [02:52] harrisr: did you install it? or just download the .deb? [02:52] i installed the .deb [02:53] harrisr: you dont really "open" dropbox.. its just running in the background, syncing the folder/s you set it to sync [02:53] * ianorlin doesn't use dropbox [02:53] i downloaded the deb then installed it [02:53] but it isnt showing up in the menue [02:54] alt+f2 dropbox should do what you are looking for [02:54] harrisr: its not something you start.. or launch.. you dont need a menu item for it [02:54] so it isnt like ubuntu were you have to login [02:54] harrisr: lubuntu *is* ubuntu [02:55] harrisr: and dropbox is dropbox.. you'll have to set it up initially, which you should be able to do as i suggested above [02:55] i did and nothing happened the run just closed [02:55] harrisr: but, you wont need an ongoing menu item for it.. since you dont "start" dropbox like that [02:56] harrisr: where did you get whatever you hav installed? the dropbox site? was it a .deb? did it say it supported the version of linux you are using? [02:56] This is me: osmodivs adm dialout fax cdrom floppy tape sudo audio dip video plugdev fuse lpadmin netdev sambashare --- But still can't conect to a WiFi or install programs via the GUI, what can be wrong here? [02:56] is it becuase i am running the live version from a live disk [02:57] harrisr: i woudnt want to install it in a live version [02:57] i am running in virtual box [02:57] harrisr: from a live version, you can open a web browser, and use the dropbox web client [02:57] * ianorlin agrees with holstein on that [02:57] harrisr: virtual or on metal, i wouldnt install dropbox in a live environment [02:57] can i run the normal version in virtual box [02:58] harrisr: if you are asking "can i run the normal installed version of lubuntu in virtualbox?".. yes [02:58] you should be able to harrisr but you'd probably want to install it first [02:58] lubuntu i mean, install it to a virtual drive [02:59] if you are asking "can i install dropbox in a live environment?".. nothing about lubuntu is preventing that.. but, the web portal is what you want there.. [02:59] do you want to reinstall it every time? [02:59] reinstall, and wait for sync everytime.. not advisable [03:01] if i take a snapshot in virtual box [03:01] harrisr: go for it.. but, its not the way to do it [03:02] i need it in virtual box as i am trying to get dropbox referal space [03:02] harrisr: you get it by collecting referrals.. im not interested in helping you "beat the system" [03:02] And don't advertise in here. [03:02] harrisr: you'll follow the proceedures that they require, and you get referrals [03:03] i dont know any other people who will use it [03:03] join dropbox and download the program from my referral link to get 2.5 gb of free cloud storage https://db.tt/huZfKHd2 [03:03] harrisr: please use one of the offtopic channels for that.. thanks [03:04] w2hich is [03:04] harrisr: stated clearly in the /topic as #lubuntu-offtopic ..though, its borderline appropriate there [03:05] harrisr: you might want to try a larger channel, like the #ubuntu-offtopic one. but, its just not appropriate to spam that here.. thanks for not doing it anymore [03:14] Hi. I have a late 2006 intel iMac; I have tried, and I am trying to at least get the LiveUSB to work. I got as far as setting up an installed system and attempting to boot it with rEFIt, but the EFI firmware threw a fit and wouldn't boot in legacy mode. I tried EFI boot ,but rEFInd wouldn't start. Now: is there a way I can boot the LiveCD image over the network with an ethernet cable? I have no way to burn discs at the present time. [03:14] Thanks. [03:16] pietro10: i might try and just pull the disk and take it to other hardware and set it up [03:17] the ways i think of to boot from network with that hardware would require burning another cd to point there [03:17] ok, thanks anyway [03:18] i used plop with my macbook.. used a usb stick as the install media and reFIT worked for me there [03:18] but, plop also needs to be burned to a disc [03:19] or.. something that the mac can boot [03:19] i would try and test the hardware though, because it sounds to me like something else could be going on there === CiPi is now known as cipi === cipi is now known as CiPi === CiPi is now known as cipi === cipi is now known as CiPi === CiPi is now known as cipi [14:27] my netbook freezes every other time it turnes the screen back on (after beeing idle for soem time) [14:28] i went to power manager and set blank screen and turn of screen time both to "Never" when on ASC power [14:28] AC* [14:28] it still turns the screen off, and freezes [14:28] are there multiple things running in lubuntu that turn off the screen? where else then in power manager would i have to change it? === cipi is now known as CiPi === CiPi is now known as cipi === teward is now known as TheLordOfTime [18:46] hi, may i ask someone any help, i am a newbie, just installed lubuntu and drunk 23 coffees by now hu ho [18:46] help on what? [18:47] !details [18:47] Please give us full details. For example: "I have a problem with ..., I'm running Ubuntu version .... When I try to do ..., I get the following output: ..., but I expected it to do ..." [18:49] wayne__: whats your problem please tells us [18:51] ok thk : [18:52] i just installed lubuntu, i thought there would be a dual boot but there isn't any actually. so i guess my windows stuff are erased now ?! === TheLordOfTime is now known as teward [18:53] That depends one what option you choose when you needed to make a choice. Dual boot or erase everything and install only lubuntu [18:53] and secondly, my cpu is supposed to be 80Go but now it seems that i only have 7Go, certainly due to my "bad" fractionning job :-S [18:53] this is why backups are important and there is a choice to do either [18:54] i didn't have any dual booting proposition when installing lubuntu [18:54] only fractionning, what i did so [18:55] you mean you choose to do "something else" ? [18:55] i saved most of my stuff but not everything...it's just that i was expecting a dual boot [18:56] wayne__: what windows version did u had/have [18:56] i have 79Go --> fraction Master Boot Record : in /boot [18:56] XP [18:57] 7,9 Go --> /root [18:57] and 1Go --> /swap [18:58] when you open your pc [18:58] you boot straight to lubuntu? [18:59] i yep directly on lubuntu, no choice [19:00] when i try to add files on my CPU it says there is no more space [19:00] probably the 7,9Go are full, but how come i can't use the 70 others Go ? [19:01] you did the partitioning? [19:01] yes [19:01] if you open pcmanfm which looks like a folder is there anything else you can mount? [19:03] with LXTerminal ? [19:04] no file manager pcmanfm [19:05] i don't have it, let me get that ! [19:05] you already have it [19:05] it's default on lubuntu [19:13] when i put anything in the trash it won't go : error in /home/wayne/.local/share/Trash no space available [19:14] yes thx i just noticed [19:15] when i click "Applications" i got an error "Erreur de cache de menu" [19:18] when i ask "properties" of my /, there is 8,3 Gio [19:18] but my CPU is 80G [19:18] in theory [19:19] HDD not cpu [19:20] correct [19:21] my /home is 4,5 tiny Go [19:22] please how can i appreciate the 70 others Go ?! [19:22] are my old windows stuff gone forever ? [19:23] it's GB not Go [19:24] GigaByte [19:24] correct [19:24] I cant tell if it's gone [19:24] ok [19:25] is there any thing i can do to know ? [19:25] yes open pcmanfm [19:25] yes [19:26] and check for partitions [19:26] on Places [19:26] on the left side [19:28] ok but my lubuntu is in french [19:28] i am french [19:29] 79G /dev/sda : ext2 /boot [19:29] 7,9GB /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root [19:30] 1,1 GB /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-swap_1 [19:30] 260MB /dev/zram0 [19:30] 260MB /dev/zram1 [19:30] and that's it [19:32] the 79GB partition is a Master Boot Record, type Linux (Bootable) [19:32] safe disc with 50 sectors damaged [19:33] any comments ? [19:57] no one ? === cipi is now known as CiPi === TheLordOfTime is now known as teward
