cubWhat is the "best" way to make my xubuntu boot into text mode? I've read several options with "quiet splash text", change init or stop the lightdm service. I would like my eee pc to normally start with just the terminal, network acess. Then to be able to start the DE when I want to. Any suggestions?12:09
elfycub: maybe http://askubuntu.com/questions/16371/how-do-i-disable-x-at-boot-time-so-that-the-system-boots-in-text-mode will help12:36
elfycub: in that page the answer with sudo bash -c 'echo "manual" >> /etc/init/lightdm.override' works here12:42
jarkkoi cant alt+tab on xfce while in dota2?13:07
cfhowlettjarkko, not if dota2 has seized that keybinding ...13:08
jarkkocfhowlett: its up to dota?13:09
Sysiif you run it on wine, that's to be expected13:09
jarkkoi dont run it from wine13:09
cfhowlettjarkko, many programs/apps/games do the unexpectged13:09
Sysihttps://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2/issues/34813:11
jarkkowell alt+tab worked on kde13:11
cfhowlettjarkko, so use KDE - problem solved.13:12
Sysias mentioned behind the link I posted, it depends about the DE (WM)13:13
jarkkoi read it13:13
cubthanks elfy , I'll go for that one I think.13:14
jarkkoi installed xfce from command line, it had some suggested packages and recommended..i am pretty sure i didnt install them13:14
jarkkohow do i install them afterwards?13:14
elfycub: was certainly the easiest one :)13:15
newvistaGood Day all... I have identified some shortcuts attached to the Super key, such as S+w to launch the web browser. Is there a way to assign / change other key bindings?13:29
elfynewvista: settings manager - keyboard - app shortcuts13:29
elfyand settings manager - settings editor - xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts13:30
newvistaThanks elfy. Does it matter which one I use?13:37
elfyfirst one is easier13:37
elfydepends what you're up to :)13:37
newvistaGreat! Thanks heaps.13:38
newvistaFirefox does not show the icons on the bookmark toolbar. Is there a fix?13:40
jarkkonewvista: do you mean the toolbar middle of the screen, bottom or top?13:52
newvistajarko: I have the bookmarks toolbar docked at the top of the browser, under the address bar.14:03
newvistaHow can I change the preferred web browser from Firefox to chromium-browser?15:17
starratsnewvista go to settings manager and look for preferred settings.15:19
starratsexcuse me meant preferred applications15:19
newvistastarrats: Thanks, so there is only 4 preferred apps?15:22
starratsI guess that's what I saw this morning myself15:22
newvistaHow about different file types? Linux doesn't support file types by extension ... ?15:26
starratsnewvista at the bottom of the menu list there is the xubuntu website, that will give you a lot of info.15:27
Sysinewvista: there's MIME type editor in settings manager, or you can just right click on a file in file manager and change it in properties15:34
newvistasysi: that's helpful, thanks15:43

GolynxHi . Why do i have both Xfce Session and Xubuntu Session options included with the Ubuntu unity login options ?18:36
GolynxWhich one is the correct version of Xfce.18:37
junkaGolynx: why dont you try them both? I know I would18:51
Golynxjunka i'm using Xfce session now, and it uses the same memory ram as unity 2D . I thought it would be les18:52
junkaubuntu 12.04?18:53
Golynxyes18:54
junkatry lubuntu18:55
junkait's the lightest18:55
GolynxNope i dont like Lubuntu, its not looking good18:56
junkaha18:56
junkago xubuntu then18:56
bekksGolynx: Then you have to live with the RAM consumption you are experiencing. Lubuntu is the lightest, in terms of RAM and resource usage.18:57
GolynxBut its using the same amount of ram with the same apps open as it was in Unity 2D18:57
junkaso what18:57
GolynxOk bekks i guess so18:58
junkaunity 2d is not even supported anymore18:58
Golynxthanks guys18:58
GolynxOk . Is it ok to keep zeitgeist around in xubuntu ?19:08
junkaxubuntu is a distro. XFCE is a DE19:09
GolynxSo is Xubuntu session the real thing . And Xfce session the demo?19:11
SysiGolynx: on first login selecting xfce session loads different default settings than xubuntu session, after that it won't matter because user's personal setting are stored to the home folder19:24
tc1100hey im having an issue here19:25

GolynxSysi: so both Xfce session and Xubuntu session is configured differently, and thats what seperates them ?19:29
GolynxI'm only using Xfce session btw, to be on the sasfe side :)19:30
Golynxsafe*19:30
SysiGolynx: different theme and panel setup, and it will be loaded only on first login anyway19:30

brainwashbinalith: if your are curious how to get the update now without waiting, try this: navigate to settings manager > software and sources > updates, enable "pre-released updates", then open a terminal window and run "sudo apt-get update && sudp apt-get install xfce4-power-manager", now disable "pre-released updates" and relog23:49
