=== utack is now known as utack_ [03:46] Hi, I'm on ubuntu 14.04 when I open security & privacy it open system settings window [03:48] the annoying thing that I have to close that window about 20 time as it keep coming back [04:20] damascene: noticed that too yesterday .. i did a 'sudo killall gnome-control-center' to stop it from jumping back .. haven't seen any bug reports on it yet [06:12] Hi, I'm on ubuntu 14.04 when I open security & privacy it open system settings window [10:45] Howdy all [13:31] Hey, I've got a Trusty server running VMs, the VMs include debian, windows and Trusty, trusty fails to boot (fresh install, several attempts) how can I track down what it's doing when it's failing? [13:39] is there a chance libreoffice 4.2 will be included with trusty now that it's published? [13:43] hmm, booting into recovery console, exiting then resuming boot allowed the system to boot without crashing [13:52] right I've found the issue [13:52] 14.04 dies when using "cirrus" as the graphics card in kvm [14:27] Hi all. Is anyone using Kubuntu 14.04? [14:30] yes, that's what this chat is all about , Poisoned_Dragon [14:31] <-- Kubuntu 14.04 here [14:34] I just got borked package updates involving kubuntu-settings-desktop, and kubuntu-settings-netbook. I was wondering if I was alone. Had to remove kubuntu-settings-desktop, as a result. Kubuntu-settings-netbook complains of dependency issues. [16:29] hi -- i've got the dreaded flashplugin-intsaller hanging issue going from 13.10 to 14.04 [16:31] i followed the instructions here: http://www.liberiangeek.net/2014/01/daily-ubuntu-tips-upgrade-to-ubuntu-14-04-trusty-tahr-from-13-10/ [16:36] otoburb: are you running the install command or using GUI? [16:37] glitsj16: i ran "update-manager -d" from the command which popped up the GUI [16:37] after that, i clicked "Upgrade" in the Software Updater dialogue [16:37] which then proceeded to show the embedded terminal window fetching and installing packages [16:38] but then it seemed to have hung on "downloading adobe-flashplugin-installer" for 20 minutes, at which point i then decided to try to reboot [16:38] .... which in hindsight probably not a good idea [16:38] otoburb: i see, i thought you were having trouble installing flashplugin in a running 14.04.. [16:38] glitsj16: nope. this is (was?) an in-progress upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04 [16:39] otoburb: that probably didn't have good results .. can you boot into it? [16:40] negative [16:41] otoburb: is the update-manager -d command still active? even when hanging? [16:41] kernel panic [16:41] glitsj16: it was yes [16:41] otoburb: ouch [16:41] glitsj16: it's ok. i'll reinstall. i knew what i was getting into since 14.04 is alpha :) [16:42] otoburb: that looks the best option yes .. perhaps when installer shows up, don't check 'updates while installing' and wait untill you get a clean boot before updating/installing packages [16:43] glitsj16: i'll try that next time [16:43] it told me it disabled 3rd party repos, so didn't pay a second thought [16:43] otoburb: and activate the partner repo for flash, you can then install adobe-flashplugin [16:43] hmm ok [16:44] otoburb: easy enough to forget that, goodluck this time around :) [16:44] thx [17:57] For Kubuntu users today where the package kubuntu-settings-desktop is choking, if you don't want to wait until the new package hits the mirrors: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6850585/ === Belial is now known as Guest4685 [18:55] is anyone using kubuntu 14.04? I'm getting this problem on a package upgrade: /var/lib/dpkg/info/kubuntu-settings-desktop.postinst: 59: /var/lib/dpkg/info/kubuntu-settings-desktop.postinst: Syntax error: end of file unexpected (expecting "}") [18:56] rohan: genii suggested earlier that there was a fix coming for that. [18:57] rohan: Here's the steps i took to manually fix it: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6850585/ [18:57] genii: i manually fixed it by adding the missing semicolon [18:58] aha, that's quite involved. i just manually edited /var/lib/dpkg/info/kubuntu-settings-desktop.postinst [18:58] but thanks for the info, Pici , genii :) [18:59] rohan: The Kubuntu devs are aware of the issue and a fix has been made, but it has not gone into the repositories yet [18:59] rohan: I did it that way so that the fixed deb file will be in the system, etc :) [19:00] genii: yes, your way is definitely the right way to do it :) [19:15] does anyone know how to make evolution look in-line with KDE? it currently looks like an unthemed GTK application [19:19] Will the current 14.04 images be upgradeable to release? [19:20] yes [19:20] Are the server minimal installations still different from desktop? [19:21] settings, repos, kernel, modules (minimal) [19:21] probably [19:22] basically all my GTK applications are looking crappy (except firefox) [19:22] something like this: http://askubuntu.com/questions/87037/gtk-in-kubuntu-apps-look-bad -- but the solution given here doesn't work [19:23] Is there a 14.04 netinstall / mini.iso ? [19:29] UserError: There should be one, but it won't be on the minimal wiki page. Just follow the naming convention to find the proper url [19:31] rohan: That looks like the default GTK3 theme is getting used instead of Oxygen. Make sure gtk3-engines-oxygen is installed and change the GTK3 theme under System Settings>Application Appearance>GTK to something else, apply the settings, and then change it back to Oxygen. [19:34] mamarley: switching it worked! thanks. [19:35] Pici thanks :) [19:41] No problem :) [20:27] hi [20:29] my zenity boxes are not working right is there way to if that problem? [21:57] someone here who testes alreadt nvidia-prime 0.5.5 ?
