[00:02] hello, am looking for a MOTU sponsor... any help! === j_f-f_ is now known as j_f-f === kloeri is now known as kloeri|fosdem === freeflying_away is now known as freeflying === freeflying is now known as freeflying_away === Guest23318 is now known as shadeslayer_ [20:13] Hi there. Has there been a change in what files go into python packages? I.e. is /usr/share/pyshared not used anymore? Random example: http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/all/python-paramiko/filelist - when rebuilding locally, the files under /usr/share/pyshared are missing. [20:32] Ampelbein: Yes, dh_python2 changed fairly recently [20:32] Ampelbein: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-defaults/2.7.5-5ubuntu2 [20:33] cjwatson: Ah, there it is. Thanks. [20:33] cjwatson: Do you know the rationale behind the change? [20:35] hello, am looking for a MOTU sponsor... any help! [20:39] pranith, have you subscribed the ubuntu-sponsors team? [20:40] Noskcaj, no. I have an update package on my ppa and would like a sponsor to pull it for Trusty. Is the ubuntu-sponsor list the place for me to go? [20:41] pranith, Could i have a link to the PPA? [20:41] Ampelbein: not offhand, ask the uploader [20:41] Noskcaj, https://launchpad.net/~bobby-prani/+archive/global [20:41] And the normal process is changing the bzr branch or making a debdiff [20:42] Noskcaj, debdiff is actually huge for this package... about 1.3 MB since this update is for a 6 year old package [20:43] Since we currently sync the package from debian, it should be versioned -0ubuntu1 for the new release [20:43] this is bug listing for this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1275029 [20:43] Launchpad bug 1275029 in global (Ubuntu) "Update global to 6.2.10 for Ubuntu Trusty Tahr" [Undecided,Confirmed] [20:44] You could contact the debian maintainer for an update ron AT debian.org [20:44] Noskcaj, I did... the maintainer is not responding... you can see the upstream bug linked there [20:44] yep [20:45] upstream is not really responsive for this package... even the author of global tried to prod debian maintainer without any result [20:47] So i suggest you make the update and either attach the debdiff to the bug or make a bzr branch of the update [20:48] Please make sure the copyright is current too [20:48] I'll go and see if the maintainer is MIA [20:49] Noskcaj, ok [20:54] So he's not MIA, but has definitely neglected the package. [20:56] yes [20:57] Once you update the package here, try and find a debian developer to help updating it there too. [20:57] Although depending on the size of the changes, this might have to wait till after trusty [20:58] tip for your ppa: have the higher versions for newer releases. ~trusty1 is considered lower than having nothing at the end [21:26] pranith, ron's reply: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6857601/ [21:27] Noskcaj, what is he talking about? Sorry, I do not have the context [21:27] which is the script that is causing trouble? [21:28] i don't know. Could you join #debian-devel on the debian irc? [21:28] ron is there [21:29] Noskcaj, that channel is invite only :( [21:29] no [21:30] tried joining [21:30] Cannot join #debian-devel (Channel is invite only). [21:30] it's on a different irc network [21:31] oftc [21:33] from ron: the part in question generates html from source, but needs a custom cgi script. I worked closely with upstream, like 15 years ago, to do that in way that was suitable for distro use. in the new code he's gone "I know, you can just run bless.sh script that we make as root!". And explaining why Uh No is the answer to that has been Hard. [21:40] hmm [21:41] Noskcaj, any way we can patch it to not do that? [21:47] pranith, I don't know how, but it's probably possible
