gomiboypietro10: check the settings under System Settings -> Application Appearance -> GTK00:01
pietro10I did; it's font rendering that's wrong, not that the font itself is wrong00:02
pietro10the best explanation I can give is that the kerning is nonexistent and some characters, like t, are very wide00:03
qdatatry qtcurve as a substitute for oxygen theme to eliminate a possibility of a theme problem; oxygen theme(s) has had problems before00:03
* gomiboy had to check what kerning means :D00:05
qdataalso consider if it isn't a theme problem per se, maybe you have a mix of different versions from different repos of the rendering engines such as freetype200:06
* qdata has no way of knowing what you've done to your system00:07

pietro10this is off a fresh install00:08
pietro10but thanks00:08
qdataI've also seen Qt cause font render trouble, although very rare - some of these I still see currently and these are Qt bugs00:08
qdatafresh install fo 13.10 or 14.x?00:09
pietro1014.x (have tried asking in +1 though)00:10
pietro10it was more fun in the past when making ~/.fontconfig would have this effec ton EVERY PROGRAM though :D00:10
pietro10making .fontconfig at all, even blank00:10
qdatawell, 14.x is alpha code and not surprised something broken00:10
qdataif you're a user and not a developer or bug tester you're better off with 13,1000:11
pietro1013.10 had weird issues fo rme00:11
pietro10and I am a developer (though not of KDE itself)00:11
qdatayeah - 13.04 started leaving my file system in an inconsistant state on shutdown and was dismayed to see 13.10 come out and not fix it00:12
qdatasame old story - everybody ego stroking over new features and not focused on producing quality software00:13

zack_why cant i use my proxy on a irc channal it just says im baned03:35
zack_hello03:35
tsimpsondon't try and evade bans then03:35
zack_im not03:35
zack_i just want to use proxy03:36
zack_it says cant locate user or somthing03:36
zack_hello03:38
zack_@tsimpson_: hello03:38
zack_oh i mean host not user03:38
tsimpsonif it says it can't locate the host then you're either trying to connect to a host that doesn't exist or your proxy isn't allowing you to resolve DNS entries03:40
valorie!proxy03:40
ubottuSeveral Ubuntu channels prohibit access from open proxies and other anonymous connections due to a high level of abuse. The supported ways to hide your IP address on freenode are to use !Tor or get a !cloak03:40
zack_i just feel paranoid03:41
valorietoo paranoid to use Tor?03:41
zack_how do i use tor03:42
valorie!tor03:42
ubottuTor is a program to route connections through several servers for anonymity. It is in Ubuntu's repositories, but the Tor Project recommends using their Tor packages due to past issues with Ubuntu's. For setup info, see option (2) of https://www.torproject.org/docs/debian.html.en | To use Tor on freenode, see !tor-sasl03:42
zack_do i have to download03:42
valoriedid you see the factoid ubottu just served up for you above?03:42
valorietwo of them, in fact03:43
zack_i use foxyproxy03:43
zack_i dont have anything else03:43
valorieyou can use tor, and/or you can get a cloak03:44
valorie!cloak03:44
ubottuTo get any kind of cloak (ubuntu member or any other kind) you first need to set up your nick as detailed in this FAQ: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup -  For Ubuntu member cloaks, ask in #ubuntu-irc and provide your launchpad page, for unaffiliated ones, ask in #freenode.03:44
wsr3193Try backbox linux, it will route you through the tor routers04:17

LucidGuyKubuntu 12.04 - nvidia-331 drivers.  Anyone experience slow response when unlocking lock screen?  The password prompt response quickly, it's once I hit enter the screen goes black and I have a good 10 second delay before desktop appears.15:25
BluesKajLucidGuy, do you have alot of apps running at startup like akonadi server for pim and nepomuk for file search and indexing16:32
BluesKaj?16:33
LucidGuyBluesKaj, I do not, I noticed this delay after my most recent troubleshooting of the graphics card.. as you know.16:38

Poisoned_DragonIt was hell to research. Very little docs about how software-properties-gtk verify the codename it's running on.18:44

naftilos76Hi, i am using kubuntu 13.10 and kmail seems to be having several bugs. The attachment flag is missing. Does anybody else have this issue with kmail 4.11.3 ?20:12
BluesKajnaftilos76, is this workplace pc ?20:17
naftilos76It is a laptop for general use. Are you asking something else?20:18
BluesKajnaftilos76, it's just that kmail can work well on some installs not on others. I've tried to track down the problem over the last couple of yrs, but i haven't concluded what the cause is. I suspect it's hardware related. I gave up on kmail and use thunderbird instead , since I'm a home user.20:25
geniiApparently Thunderbird is being discontinued.20:26
lordievadergenii: What!!! Since when?20:27
BluesKajwell, it's still working ok here, genii20:27
naftilos76I am using thunderbird as well as my email account are all configured over IMAP and it seems nice and stable instead of kmail. It is just that kmail is part of kde and that sucks. It is really sad. So much  development for nothing? All these people that wrote the code...Unbeleivable...20:28
geniiLet me find the relevant documents20:28
lordievadergenii: http://techcrunch.com/2012/07/06/so-thats-it-for-thunderbird/ Says no more innovation.20:28
BluesKajnaftilos76, further devel has been dropped for the last 2 yrs20:29
lordievaderAnd: http://blog.lizardwrangler.com/2012/07/06/thunderbird-stability-and-community-innovation/20:29
geniilordievader: There was something else out just last week that was referenced in a channel here, but I can't find the link atm20:30
naftilos76BluesKaj, that is so wrong. Is there an other email client that integrates well with KDE?20:30
lordievadergenii: Hmm, okay. Well too bad I guess.. :(20:30
BluesKajnaftilos76, it's been left up to the open source community to keep up development20:31
