c4iffHaving an intermittent issue in 13.10 and I think it's partly because I"m not understanding a few key concepts in how gnome mounts an iPAD,  mainly what is responsible for auto mounting in file manager, seems that whatever in the gui mounts the device doesn't work some of the time and when I mount it when ifuse manually it doesn't have some key directories that are available via the automounter00:02

zack_Hi, does anyone knows how to re-image Xubuntu 12.04+ systems?03:39
zack_I want to add some customized software and settings into the system, I have tried UCK, but it can't include all the settings I want03:40
fibz_easiest to use is a live system called Redo! Backup & Restore (great for fixing downed systems too) www.redobackup.org03:41
zack_@fibz, can i install this system later into other machines?03:42
fibz_can get hairy if the systems are too dissimilar though03:42
zack_I know that there are a lot of ubuntu based systems, such as Linux Mint, anyone knows how they are made?03:45
zack_i think i can use the same way they used to customize and save the system03:45

fibz_sqashfs and your apt repo03:46
zack_any documents?03:46
fibz_and a batch script03:46
zack_i have tried UCK, i think it's also using sqashfs, but it can't save all the settings. Usually what i'm doing is to save the configuration file in the current system and put them into the new system, but it costs time and the result is not as expected03:48
fibz_ask in #ubuntu or #ubuntu-devel or #ubuntu-server i suppose03:51
zack_ok, thanks03:51

fibz_different artwork, different default set of applications05:02
fibz_and settings05:02
FuuqUmiistwhat is Xubuntu aimed for05:03
holsteinnot low spec hardware, necessarily05:03
fibz_low spec out of the box ready for whatever05:03
holsteinxfce is not "heavy" though05:03
fibz_or if you want ubuntu and xfce05:04

Kekaihow is it on Ram usage, the OS05:25
KekaiI hear its light05:25
KekaiI only have 512mb on this netbook.05:25
holsteinnothing makes your machine any faster than it is05:25
holsteinxfce can be noticably lighter on resources.. but, 512 is pushing it these days..05:26
holsteinnot the OS, necessarily, but just normal web browsing... etc05:26
Kekaiwell Chrome is light05:26
KekaiI rn 100+mb/s Internet connection05:27
KekaiI might try Opera05:27
holsteinchrome is not an os.. use what you like there05:27
holsteinim talking about accessing the internet, generally05:27

holsteinKekai: its literally free to try it05:29
Unit193Depends on how many tabs you have, the more you have the worse chrome is.05:29
holsteinhttps://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/ is where you can try chrome for free05:29
Unit193(or use chromium, either way.)05:30
holsteinchromium is in the default repos..05:30

holsteinUnit193: :/05:31
holsteinxfce/xubuntu is a good balance between being light and functional.. not sure what i would run with 512 of ram, though..05:33
KekaiI ran 12.04 before and it was awesome05:33
Kekaiast05:33
Kekaiand load times were nearly gone05:33
holsteinpuppy linux is nice, since it loads in ram and runs *great* on old hardware.. but, its nice to have a balance where you have the ubuntu repositories and support community to take advantage ot05:33

konois apparmor @ xubuntu installed at standard install? I searched for such an app, but now I see it is already installed, I never recognized this ... it is strange10:13
cfhowlett!apparmor10:14
ubottuFor information about the AppArmor security framework employed in Ubuntu (since Gutsy Gibbon), see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AppArmor10:14
kononot? in my dpkg log "2013-04-23 15:06:59 install apparmor:amd64 <none> 2.8.0-0ubuntu11" this could be the time I installed xubuntu10:18
konoit is also in the last dpkg log file dpkg.log.9.gz10:22
konoI regard, what I install, so I would know that, if I installed manually10:25
starratsGood morning everyone!  I have a small problem, hope it's fixable besides reiinstall xubuntu 13-10.  Yesterday not doing it intentionally I lost the 'workspaces' boxes on top of my desktop where I had 4 litlle boxes for 4 different 'windows'.  I have tried to bring them back with the knowledge I have but to no avail, is there a way to bring them back to the top of the desktop next to my clock/date area?11:55
cfhowlettstarrats, you could nuke your xfce (desktop environment) settings, logout, login and they should reset back to default11:56
Sysior just right click on panel, find "Add new items" and add the workspace switcher back11:57
Sysidrag from the list to get it where you want11:58
sandman13how to make xfce look exactly like this: http://imgur.com/kBDpw6f11:58
cfhowlettsandman13, might want to ask the xfce channel11:59
sandman13in xubuntu?12:00
cfhowlettsandman13, xfce.org   are the experts12:01
sandman13okay cfhowlett12:01
starratsa lot of good ideas and I have not tried any of those but how do you 'nuke' your xfce (desktop environment' with out nuking the whole xubuntu 13-10, remember i am running it on VBox.12:01
starratsand where is 'Add new items'?12:02
Sysiin submenu under the pop-up menu you get when right clicking on the panl IIRC12:03
cfhowlettstarrats, go to your home.  display .hidden folders.  go to .config>  delete xfce4 folder12:04
starratsah ok cfhowlett12:05
Sysithat doesn't work, you need to do it when not logged in or the settings daemon will rewrite them when you log out12:05
cfhowlettstarrats, and FYI you are ONLY deleting your desktop environment settings, NOT the entire xubuntu :)12:05
starratsokay cfhowlett12:10
starratsthanks everyone that answered my question earlier.  But I'm a noob per se and I still don't like getting into hidden files, if I could find them and doing what was sugeested.  I'm fine at this time just runing a few tabs up on top.13:05
kono@ubottu thanks15:00

sohail-ahmedI am runing a program with some flags and its generating many types of error, one typical error is about indentation and this error is hiding other errors meaning the terminal do not scroll further. How can I see all the error in my terminal so that I can scroll beyond all the data?19:45
=== EugeneBandit is now known as efb
krytariksohail-ahmed: You can either increase the scrollback of your Terminal, or redirect the output to a file: http://docs.xfce.org/apps/terminal/preferences , http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6674327/redirect-all-output-to-file20:12

ReaganomicsLamboHey guys, I have this external hardrive connected to my laptop and sometimes, when I move around, the disk will disconnect and remount. However, the folder I was currently viewing will appear as Null and I will get the "Open with" dialog window when the disk is remounted. Is there any way I can remount the disk so the folder I was currently viewing doesn't mount as null?21:48
ReaganomicsLambonormally the problem is fixed by logging out, but is there an easier way?21:48
holsteinReaganomicsLambo: fix the device21:48
holsteinor, dont touch it when you are trying to use it21:49
ReaganomicsLamboIDK what just happened but I just right-clicked on the null folder icon that was on the root of the disk and it remounted by itself and now the folder isn't null anymore.21:52
ReaganomicsLamboProblem solved lol.21:53
