swrichive tried installing lubuntu on an old laptop and it said i needed to update the lan driver and it threw up some type of name called b43 i have read about this but no where have i found out how to actually remedey the problem05:11
Unit193!b4305:11
ubottuHelp with Broadcom bcm43xx can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx05:11
swrichill check that out right now05:12
swrichive read that document. it only tells you how to do it in linux but obviously i havent been able to install linux yet until i update the driver. i need to do it while still in windows or through the bios05:13
Unit193Erm...05:15
Unit193swrich: What says exactly what?05:26
swrichi cant remember exactly. but it was somewhere along the line of "cant finish installing lubuntu, go to wireless.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/b43 and read the instructions carefully" which of course i did but it makes no sense because the instructoions tell you how to do it while in linux05:29
Unit193Yes, did you check the box that said to download updates while installing?  Normally it just installs, and you can install the wireless driver later.05:30
swrichno, i dont remember checking any boxes except for the english one05:35
jozefkIs lubuntu developed and supported by canonical?07:27
Noskcajjozefk, Yes07:31
NoskcajEverything is the same as Xubuntu in this case, except 12.04 isn't really an lts for lubuntu07:32
Unit193Not quite, same answer as in #xubuntu.07:32
jozefkFor lubuntu LTS will be 14.04 only right?07:33
Unit193Right, that'll be the first one.07:34
jozefkSo the difference is only in taste of users. If you like unity you go for Ubuntu if lxde then lubuntu and so on07:35
jozefkInteresting is that there are thousands of people on Ubuntu channel :)07:36

NindustriesSo I installed lubunu 64bit on my Dell XPS 14. Sound isnt working, I only get HDMI out as an option.. suggestions?18:23
NindustriesUpdate; I reinstalled and now it shows Stereo, but no sound18:25
ianorlin #lubuntu-offtopic18:45
holsteinNindustries: try pavucontrol18:47
holsteinassuming you are OK adding pluse, which is also a troubleshooting step18:48
holsteinyou could try xubuntu live, since it has pulse, and go from there18:48

Guest53395Hey , how to enable root in lubuntu  ?? is there any way ?? can i apply this in Lubuntu http://handytutorial.com/enable-root-account-in-ubuntu-13-04-login-screen/21:20
wxl!root | Guest5339521:20
ubottuGuest53395: Do not try to guess the root password, that is impossible. Instead, realise the truth... there is no root password. Then you will see that it is 'sudo' that grants you access and not the root password. Look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo21:20
Guest53395 <ubottu> I want to login as root !!!21:21
wxlGuest53395: click the link. everything you need to know is there.21:22

circ1hi22:59
circ1i want to ask a question about running python script in lubuntu...23:00
wxlshould be the same as running python script anywhere23:00
geniicirc1: Can you make your question more specific?23:01
circ1i want to run python scrip by double clicking ...23:01
circ1i dont want to run by typing python  test.py in terminal23:04
circ1can anyone help please?23:07
zleapchmod 755 test.py23:09
zleapi guess if you tell it to use python it will do that so first line i think is a line to tell it to use python23:09
circ1i typed chmod +x23:10
zleap#!/usr/bin/env python23:10
zleapok did that work23:10
circ1it did not work23:10
zleapshould go green, which is the shell colour for executable23:10
zleapwhat error do you get23:11
zleaptry doing ./test.sh23:11
zleapmaybe put #!/usr/bin/env python in the first line of the program23:11
zleapor #!/usr/bin/env python3 if you're using python323:11
circ1i click on py file but nothing happens23:11
zleaprun in the terminal then23:12
ianorlinwhat version of python23:12
ianorlinif you are using python 3 it has to use #!/usr/bin/env python323:12
circ1i use python 223:13
zleapit works here23:13
ianorlinyou can do python the script name in terminal23:13
zleapif I do chmod +x file.py23:14
zleapthen run ./file.py it runs it23:14
ianorlinthat works too23:14
circ1can you run it by double clicking on it too?23:14
zleapmaybe23:15
zleapbut it will still open a terminal so what is the program doing23:15
circ1can you try double click method please?23:15
zleapunless its has gui components23:15
circ1i use raw_input() to keep terminal open....23:17
zleapok23:17
zleapuntil the program reaches the end23:17
zleapas in you type something, it does what it needs to do with what you typed in then exits23:17
circ1with raw_input() it should stay open until i press enter...23:19
zleapyeah23:19
zleapor do inport time at the start of the program23:19
zleapthen do time.sleep(5) and it will delay before exiting23:19
circ1can you try and tell me if you can run it by double clicking please?23:20
zleapi am getting tired so am going to sign off,  hope you fix this :)23:20
zleapchat later23:20
ianorlinthen how would you open the file to edit it?23:20
circ1in a text editor....23:21
ianorlinI think first you need to right click on it and give it execute permissions in pcmanfm23:21
circ1i did23:22
circ1could you try it yourself please and tell me if it works?23:24
circ1i read on the internet that it works in ubuntu but i cant make it work in lubuntu23:25
circ1i just chmod and ran ./test.py in terminal but got error message23:33
wxlmaybe you need to post up some results on pastebin23:33
ianorlindo you want a GUI to run python in?23:35
circ1i want to be able to run python scripts via gui not having to use terminal23:37
ianorlin!info idle23:37
ubottuidle (source: python-defaults): IDE for Python using Tkinter (default version). In component main, is optional. Version 2.7.5-5ubuntu1 (saucy), package size 3 kB, installed size 54 kB23:37
ianorlinthat will run them in GUI23:37
ianorlinand then I think you can right click open with idle probably23:38
circ1i know idle can ran it23:38
wxlwell if you double click them, and the file association is set, it should run them out of terminal23:38
wxlif there are gui components in the script itself, it will run them23:38
wxlif you want a gui, build it23:38
wxli wonder23:39
wxl!wxpython23:39
wxlnope don't know anything about that but that's the one23:39
wxlor one of them23:39
wxlhttp://www.wxpython.org/what.php23:39
ianorlin!info wxpython23:39
ubottuPackage wxpython does not exist in saucy23:39
wxlyeah i don't know23:40
wxl!info pi23:44
ubottupi (source: cln): Compute Archimedes' constant Pi to arbitrary precision. In component universe, is optional. Version 1.3.3-1ubuntu1 (saucy), package size 6 kB, installed size 51 kB23:44
wxloops!23:44
wxl!info pip23:44
ubottuPackage pip does not exist in saucy23:44
wxlargh what's it called23:44
wxl!info python-pip23:44
ubottupython-pip (source: python-pip): alternative Python package installer. In component universe, is optional. Version 1.4.1-2 (saucy), package size 305 kB, installed size 1435 kB23:44
wxlthat one23:44
wxlget that23:44
wxldo sudo pip install wxPython23:45
wxlhttps://pypi.python.org/pypi/wxPython/2.9.1.123:45
circ1the strange thing is that if i type ./test.py it works but if i double click and choose run in terminal then the terminal opens with nothing in it23:55
wxlprobably a file association issue23:56
circ1but i put #!/usr/bin/env python on top of file23:56
wxli'm not in front of my lubuntu now but i'm thinking /etc/mailcap might help23:57
wxlyou have it as a .sh?23:57
ianorlinmake it a .py23:57
wxlwell no23:57
wxli was saying the .sh file association should be there23:58
ianorlinah23:58
wxlif you run that with the #!/usr/bin/env python, it should run correctly23:58
wxlotherwise explicitly make an association for .py23:58
wxlyou could right click and do open with another program, right?23:58
ianorlinI haven't done much with file association23:58
wxli've only done with gui stuff, not necessarily scripting23:59
circ1i made it executable and it appears green in terminal23:59
