[02:22] When I upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 I noticed I'm not recieving any updates [02:22] How do I reenable the updates to appear daily? [02:22] I already checked in the software sources [02:22] And it says that it checks daily [02:22] But it doesn't [02:23] Try doing it manually [02:23] An error message could show up [02:23] Daekdroom: Okay I got an error [02:23] It says [02:23] "Not all updates can be installed" [02:24] How did you try to upgrade? [02:24] apt-get or upgrade-manager? [02:24] I upgraded with do-release-upgrade [02:24] Not necessary. You're already using 14.04 [02:24] 'sudo apt-get upgrade' (and occasionally 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade') are all you need. [02:36] Daekdroom: Yeah but when will the updates begin to show up daily again? [02:36] When the final release of 14.04 shows up? [02:36] If anything, updates should be appearing daily during the development phase [02:36] Well they aren't [02:36] And haven't been until I ran the Software Updater [02:37] There's a "partial upgrade" and "continue" buttons [02:37] I haven't been paying attention if they are offered to me daily, because I usually run the commands from terminal. [02:39] Daekdroom: Well that's interesting, but when someone upgrades with do-release-upgrade, then that could be a problem that people are missing security updates [05:57] I am attempting to do an apt-get update [05:57] but i get [05:57] E: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net trusty InRelease: Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NODATA' [05:57] error [05:58] what can I do ? [06:07] jcrubino: run sudo apt-get update -o Debug::Acquire::http=true , see if it provides any useful errors [06:08] if you're using a proxy server, check that that's working properly (and you're logged into it and what not) [06:11] https://dpaste.de/yOaa [06:11] no proxy server [06:12] http://ppa.launchpad.net/ works fine in a web browser? [06:14] yep, is just a directory [06:14] though [06:14] http [06:14] not https [06:15] odd. [06:15] which PPAs do you have enabled? [06:22] guys what happend with libavcodec-extra-53 package ? [06:22] and how to get h.264 support now ? [06:23] it became libavcodec-extra-54 [06:24] rww: ok thanks, any idea why thers no h.264 support ? [06:25] no idea, I don't use libav [06:31] rww: whats the easiest way to dump that to file? [06:31] jcrubino: cat /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/* | grep ppa.launchpad.net [06:32] https://dpaste.de/z795 [06:32] thanks [06:35] well for starters, go through and clean all of the "precise" PPAs out [06:41] apart from that, the /var/lib/apt/lists/partial filename mentioned in the other paste might make it more obvious which of that bunch it means [08:13] elfy: Erm am I supposed to put something like that in a terminal? [08:18] what? [08:19] AussieDownUnder: I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about [08:19] elfy, whoops wrong person sorry. [08:19] :) [08:21] Running Xubuntu 14.04 daily, trying to run minecraft.jar, there's not options in properties to allow it to run as executeable. I have Java 7 installed. Any other way to get the sucker running? [08:23] Well whatta ya know, typed some jargon in the terminal & got it going. "sudo java -jar /home/smeg/Downloads/Minecraft.jar" [08:42] AussieDownUnder: Err, shouldn't run minecraft as root. [09:31] thedrums, right, the sudo thing is a habit [09:49] Is anyone there? [09:51] I try anyways, see if some is out there in the ether [09:52] I fail when booting into my system. [09:53] first thing that happens: apache2: config test failed: mktemp failed tp create directory via template. [09:54] sudo apt-get upgrade ==> dpkg failured debconf version is debconf installed? [09:54] apt-get install debconf ==> dpkg failured debconf version is debconf installed? [09:55] dpkg --configure -a ==> unable to create new file /var/lib/dpkg/info/format-new [09:56] No dircetory /var/backups [09:57] Minecraft doesn't really like being changed from fullscreen to a smaller frame size or vice versa, it stops working. [09:57] fsck ==> /dev/sdb1: 0.4% non-contiguos [09:58] The last major thing i did was moving my /home to another partition [09:58] I didnt have a /var/lib/dpkg folder at boot [10:08] I'll repeat my broadcast [10:08] I fail when booting into my system. [10:08] first thing that happens: apache2: config test failed: mktemp failed tp create directory via template. [10:08] sudo apt-get upgrade ==> dpkg failured debconf version is debconf installed? [10:12] live* [10:12] Sorry no love here [10:12] Love usb. I'll se if i can get a hold of one of those [10:17] Honestly don't know if boot repair will work for that. Sounds like you need to tell your o/s where everything is now that you moved it all. Probs a better program or way of moving directories that updates its location to the o/s [12:59] Hey all === soee_ is now known as soee === Nach0z_ is now known as Nach0z [19:20] hi. is this correct? http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTYwNzU VDPAU will not be enabled for the radeon driver in trusty? [19:44] pepee: They could probably better answer that in #ubuntu-x [19:44] genii, thanks [20:02] Hi. My laptop has been picking up and auto-adding network printers from school. [23:08] It's working ok for me. [23:09] Oh. One has to reset it. [23:09] Let me try [23:09] failed on two different systems here [23:09] one running unity, one running xfce [23:11] Hm. [23:11] It appeared again once I started it.
