[18:08] holstein: do you know if ubuntu studio has alredy an german translation ,if not i will make one [18:08] Max__: its ubuntu.. ubuntustudio *is* ubuntu [18:09] !e [18:09] Enlightenment (or "E") is a window manager for X, providing a useful, and good looking graphical shell in which to work. [19:41] I don't remember exactly, some menus were not in Swedish [19:41] cub: the menu's at the top of the applications? [19:41] and the installation some dialogs were a mix [19:41] wonder if its just the audio apps.. [19:41] holstein, yes the apps menus [19:42] could be there just hasnt been much activity for those apps, i suppose, in swedish [19:42] I figured it depends on the translation of each app? [19:42] cub: thats what im thinking.. but im not really sure [19:42] well, if you do audio you most likely will use English anyhow [19:43] I haven't used a Swedish on an OS since th e90s [19:43] maybe cause the lak of translations forces you ;) [20:00] Hi need help new to ubuntu studio installed alongside ubuntu 13.10 and the grub of ubuntu studio falls into a shell [20:00] not strong with grub2 help needed [20:00] should "just work" [20:00] whats the issue? [20:01] Well I cleared 100G from the end of sda and install alongside now the Bios can boot unutu or ubuntu studio which load a grub shell (minimal bash like blha blha) [20:02] the regular ubuntu works from his grub and the new partiion looks installed [20:03] holstein, hehe no audio work in Swedish is mostly English or Swenglish any way [20:05] roi: ubuntustuduio *is* ubuntu [20:05] roi: im not clear on what you are asking [20:06] roi: you have installed 2 versions of ubuntu? and one is not booting? [20:06] roi: what i suggest is, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair [20:06] Sorry I got rthe eregular spin of ubntu 13.10 I wanted to install a small ubuntu studio for audio works alongside were I don't program and destroy the system [20:07] got the regular [20:07] So I downsize my main partition and let ununtu studio do an alongside install [20:07] roi: ubuntustudio is larger, so im still not sure what you are saying [20:08] roi: you dont *need* to install both [20:08] if you have ubuntu, you can add whatever you like to main ubuntu from the ubuntustudio applications [20:08] the main repos are the same as the ones in ubuntustuduio [20:08] if you have issues with one or the other booting, try https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair [20:08] yhee but ubuntu studio got a low latency kernel [20:09] roi: the lowlatency kernel is in the repos [20:09] last update to the kernel and I started getting xruns on ardour [20:09] roi: install it, and boot ubuntu using that kernel [20:09] so I wanted a seperate system [20:09] roi: sure.. [20:09] just for audio production [20:09] and you can. but you dont need to [20:09] maybe your right but its cleaner [20:09] roi: is one ubuntu booting and the other not? [20:09] and I do install servers and shit on it [20:10] roi: please watch the language [20:10] sorry [20:10] roi: do what you like.. tell me what is happening? [20:10] one is booting and the other isnt? [20:11] Yhe the bios sees to boot option one labled ubuntu studio the other labled ubuntu [20:11] the ubuntu boot like always boots [20:11] roi: ok [20:11] the new ubuntustudio option just goes to shell [20:11] roi: what shell? [20:11] all the new EFI and grub2 are just biond me [20:12] grub minimal shell [20:12] roi: dont assume that is the issue, please [20:12] roi: please boot the ubuntu that *is* booting, and open a terminal and run "sudo update-grub" [20:12] roi: test to see if the ubuntustudio is present, and let us know [20:12] present and booting [20:13] ok thanx bay for now rebootingb (I'm on the usb drive) [20:19] Hi the update-grub found the kernel on the new partion [20:19] should I reboot and get a menu option ? [20:23] thanx holstein it worked [20:24] roi: enjoy! [20:25] One last thing it's not sutio related but how can I edit grub menu boot entries strings ? [20:26] I can't seem to get 14.04 lts to install from a unetbootin frugal install [20:26] !grub | roi [20:26] roi: GRUB2 is the default Ubuntu boot manager. Lost GRUB after installing Windows? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestoreGrub - For more information and troubleshooting for GRUB2 please refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2 [20:27] roi: i urge you to think about how often you see that screen, and how big (small) a deal it is, and just leave it be for a while [20:27] !14.04 | echostorm209 [20:27] echostorm209: Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) will be the 20th release of Ubuntu. See the announcement at http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/1295 for more info. support in #ubuntu+1 [20:28] Thanx for the help will carry on from here [20:28] I have the daily build of studio 14.04 but it won't install like other Ubuntu releases [20:29] echostorm209: 14.04 support is in #ubuntu+1 [20:30] echostorm209: its not released yet, thus, not supported yet [20:30] echostorm209: you can download and enjoy 13.10, or use 14.04 "at your own risk" and with your own support [20:37] echostorm209: Does it boot at all? [20:38] holstein: There's a bug in linux-lowlatency which makes it not boot for everyone [20:38] Or, rather, in linux. But, becomes apparent in linux-lowlatency cause of how it's built (the config) [20:39] We used to have a bug that made login impossible, but that seems to have been fixed (by me, I've tested, and it seems to work) [20:39] Depending on hardware, booting our installer for 14.04 might not work [20:39] holstein: If someone has problems with installing Ubuntu Studio 14.04, please ping me [20:40] zequence: ok [20:42] Hi! I just installed ubuntustudio 13.10 and checked the encrypt option. after reboot im stuck in grub command line. can you tell me what to do to mount the encrypted drive? [20:46] Too quick.. [20:47] WeirdConnection: You should be prompted at boot to give your encrypted key. Did you do that? [20:47] Even before GRUB [20:47] no, it just loads to grub cli [20:48] i'll try to reboot again [20:49] no luck [20:49] should i change something in the boot menu? [20:49] WeirdConnection: No. Sounds like something has went wrong [20:49] WeirdConnection: The installer is in all respects the same as for Ubuntu [20:50] im quite new to linux [20:50] WeirdConnection: We don't really maintain or support any part of it (not until 14.04, when we'll have our own plugin in place) [20:50] WeirdConnection: Let me check some channels [20:50] thank you [20:50] WeirdConnection: Try #ubuntu-installer [20:51] thanks, good by! [23:35] hi [23:36] I am testing ubuntu studio... seems to work well. I am running into a slight problem, unrelated perhaps to choice of OS... my sound card vlf loop antenna is picking up lots of lightning in the area and it's washing out the signal from the submarine communications stations NLK NAA and NML [23:37] which I was monitoring due to curiosity :) [23:37] they are used in SID monitoring [23:37] which uses a sound card [23:38] there's a bit of distortion from it. [23:39] well, maybe not distortion, but signal summation [23:48] there is one higher mode supported by windows 7 with my sound card that that supported by linux, but it's practically undocumented [23:48] (on win7 with the manufacturer drivers) [23:50] I'm working on getting more information
