ethermonkyup it worked that tim00:15

ggreerI've been using 14.04 for a few days and I have a weird issue where my trackpoint (mouse nub thing) and buttons become unresponsive00:20
ggreerit only happens on boot or suspend, but it's rather random. maybe 1 in 6 times00:20
ggreerI see nothing in dmesg00:20
ggreeror syslog00:20
ggreermy laptop is an x140e00:20
ggreeralso this issue happened in 13.1000:21
ggreerone issue that's a regression in 14.04: my brightness control is now nonexistent. in 13.10, it was there but it didn't work00:24
ggreerI've yet to figure out how to manually dim the screen. on AC power, it stays stuck at 100% brightness all the time00:25
ggreeron battery, I at least enabled varibright so it'd save power00:25
ggreerit really seems like a low-level ACPI issue. heck, I even upgraded the bios because a new version claimed to fix linux brightness issues00:26
ggreerhttp://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS038561 <-- "(Fix) Fixed an issue where the LCD brightness control did not work on Linux."00:27
ggreerthis hardware is certified with 12.04 LTS, but holy cow is it hard to get working well00:27
ggreerhttp://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201309-14195/00:27
penguin42ggreer: Please report both bugs00:32

trinodehow do I see the differences between linux-headers-3.13.0-11 and linux-headers-3.13.0-11?12:22
trinode(I want to find the cause of an issue in -1112:22
bekkstrinode: linux-headers-3.13.0-11 and linux-headers-3.13.0-11? are identical.12:23
trinodedamn12:23
bekks;)12:23
bekksAnd which issue are you experiencing? Most likely, the kernel headers will not help you investigating it.12:24
trinodelinux-image-3.13.0-11-generic and linux-image-3.13.0-10-generic12:24
trinodethe issue is power consumption, -10 = 8-12w idle and -11 = 22W+12:24
=== Guest39928 is now known as yofel
trinodeI've repeatedly booted between the two and it's definately the kernel12:25
bekksThen you might want to investigate the changelog between the kernel versions, not the header versions.12:27
trinodethat's why I said damn, and pasted linux-image :)12:28
trinodeas far as I understood versions are X.XX.X-YY, X is kernel version Y us ubuntu version of that version12:31
maksimkaa_Hello, how can I know which version of PHP will the default on the upcoming Ubuntu LTS server ?12:36

ngaiois it expected that Firefox in the current 14.04 is still at version 25.0?16:21
penguin42hmm mine is also 25.016:22
penguin42does seem a bit old16:22
ngaioso it's not just my install then16:22
=== gac_ is now known as gac
penguin42ngaio: Saucy apparently has 2716:23
Daekdroompenguin42, ngaio Firefox 27 is in the -proposed repo, I think.16:24
DaekdroomNot sure how (un)stable -proposed is, overall, which is why I still haven't activated it :P16:24
penguin42apparently 28 is in proposed16:25
penguin42it's a bit odd that trusty hasn't been getting updates at least as fast as saucy16:25
ngaioI saw it's pretty up to date in saucy, however in the last few days my saucy install lost it's window's top bars so I only boot into that when I have to.... very odd16:26

ggreerhow can I dismiss notifications? they just seem to blur when I hover over them and do nothing when I click on them20:44
Belial`having some issues with nvidia-prime in 14.0420:45
Belial`lspci -v shows it is indeed running on my nvidia card20:46
Belial`but when i run nvidia-settings, this is what i get: http://i.imgur.com/cfnlD9j.png20:46
Belial`no powermizer, thermal temps, opengl info20:46
bekksBecause thats not implemented in the nvidia-settings, for nvidia-prime.20:47
Belial`it was when i tried prime on 12.04.320:47
Belial`i was able to set the performance modes, etc20:47
Belial`there seems to be a bigger issue. steam will not run.20:48
Belial`"opengl glx extension not supported by display"20:48
Belial`http://pastebin.com/nMehkCaf20:49
Belial`there's the output when i try to run steam from command line.20:49
BeldarBelial`If you want any of this addressed here you have to do a systematic by case scenario.20:49
Daekdroomggreer, that's how they work. You just wait for them to go away.20:49
ggreeraw20:50
Belial`Beldar, such as the steam issue?20:50
DaekdroomThe reason they blur is precisely because you can't interact with them. So if you need perform an action with an underlying window, you can still see everything you need.20:50
ggreerI just want them to go away faster20:50
BeldarBelial`, I believe steam is a 3rd party you would have to contact them in general. This is a development.20:51
ggreeror if I could control which apps are allowed to make notifications, that'd solve my problem. thunderbird and a couple other apps are pretty spammy20:52
Belial`Beldar, ok. what about this? ~$ modprobe nvidia20:52
Belial`modprobe: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod-module.c:809 kmod_module_insert_module() could not find module by name='nvidia_331'20:52
Belial`modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia_331': Function not implemented20:52
BeldarBelial`, No idea I have always used intel so have not had to mess with drivers in general, why are you not just using a release?20:53
Belial`Beldar, i'll submit a bug. thanks for your help.20:54

GZA-GeniusUsually when I do a cold boot, when system has been off for a good amount of time, when I open the menu there are no applications listed when I type in any to search for them, or if I hit the application button filter it says sorry nothing matches... the usr/share/applications folder is still l full with all the apps and I can run them from there but not the unity menu. Now the even stranger part if I reboot everything goes back to norma21:23
GZA-Geniusl and is fine.21:23
GZA-Geniusanyone come across anything similar?21:24
GZA-Geniusits not a big deal at all but figure hey lets see if anyone has come across it and figure out whats going on21:26
GZA-Geniusand no errors pop up or anything in the boot/loading process21:26
DaekdroomGZA-Genius, does Unity display the "loading" icon in the search box while there are no applications listed?21:42
DaekdroomIt now (since 13.10?) loads scope results as-needed, and turns out that takes awhile for the application lenses.21:43
GZA-Geniusyes it does initially but after giving it time to load up it says sorry, nothing that matches.....21:47
GZA-Geniusbrb i have to reboot pc i am on21:49

pietro10KDE: "Language support is incomplete, additional packages are required."23:03
pietro10is there a way I can find out which packages it wants to install? the right click menu doesn't give that asn an option and the left clicking takes me straight to an installer that asks for a password without letting me review anything23:03
Beldarpietro10, a apt update and upgarde will list packages23:37
Beldaror an apt install23:38
