Prometheshi, why mozilla firefox (or kde itself) does not remembers window size and maximization state after i close and reopen?08:35
nlsthznI have seen this sometimes after the first time I use an application.  After a restart it normally works and keeps the size... not sure why08:40
valoriein general, you have to quit (control-q) to have state saved08:41
valoriealthough you can also choose (in systemsettings) whether or not you want sessions save08:42
Promethesmine not, ctrl+q does not saves window sizes08:46
hateballPromethes: you could also force it to start with a certain size, if you always want it maximized for instance08:51
hateball(I do this for some troublesome apps)08:51
Promethesi found that this is a bug that was reported in 2000  (14 years ago) and kde devs are not willing to fix it because they don't want to08:53
Promethesthis is sad08:53
valorie?08:54

apacheloggerPromethes: last comment gives an accurate technical reason for why this cannot be solved at this time.09:03
valoriePromethes: if Martin says it can't be done now, i would believe him09:05
valorieif he's able to do it once Wayland is fully implemented, that's another story09:06
valorieand if apachelogger says that it is technically accurate, it is technically accurate09:07

koontzHey guys. Got a fresh install of 13.10 on a new laptop I picked up. Never had an issue like this before so figured I would ask here cause I'm not finding any solutions anywhere else.15:14
koontzBasically, I am running chrome and things like flash, etc work. But what doesn't is java. I tried icedtead, openjdk6 and 7, and also oracle java.  I have copied the .so files for the plugins to the directory all the documentation I find says to copy it to15:16
koontzSo, any ideas on troubleshooting etc?15:16
geniircw2: I actually usually just use VLC and stream the desktop to a file.15:17

rcw2genii, interesting15:18
BluesKajkoontz, is kubuntu-restricted-extras installed?15:19
rcw2i think i may have done that a year ago, and it was a lot of setup15:19
koontzHmm, I wonder if the issue is the dir youy should plugins is is different between chrome and chromium. Does anyone know?  The stuff I read all mentions /usr/lib/chromium-browser/plugins15:19
koontzBluesKaj: of course15:19
BluesKajok, well gotta ask15:19
koontzIm wondering if the chrome plugin dir might be something like /usr/lib/chrome/plugins instead15:19
koontzYa, looks like the path is different. I am seeing /opt/google/chrome/plugins/  in some other docs15:22
BluesKajkoontz, there seems to be a problem with chromium-browser not using the pepperflash.so file , however google chrome has it installed by default, whether the correct java plugin is used is another story , but <i'm not having any issues using chrome15:23
koontzwell ya chromium wont use pepper flash unless you kinda force it to15:23
koontzBut im not using chromium, im using chrome. And of course pepperflash is bundled15:23
BluesKajkoontz, there's aplugin in the repos for it15:23
koontzya i know15:24
BluesKajshould work15:24
koontzim not worried bout flash, flash works mint15:24
koontzmy issue is java strictly15:24
koontzwhich looks to be a case of haviung the wrong dir15:24
koontzcause the /opt/google/chrome/plugins/ isnt even there15:24
BluesKajyes, but maybe chrome has the right java plugin15:24
koontzhuh? chrome doesnt bundle java with it like it does flash15:25
BluesKajI'm assuming it does since chrome doesn't have problems with java on my setup15:25
koontzchrome most definitely does not bundle java, but ok...15:26
koontzwell i fixed it15:27
koontzi think...15:27
koontzBluesKaj: so you are running chrome (not chromium), and all you did was install java (openjdk) as part of restricted extras or whatever, and java works? (it shows in chrome://plugins)15:30
BluesKajkoontz, exactly15:33
koontzweird, doesnt work that way for me15:33
koontzit doesnt create any of the common chrome/chromium plugins dirs, nor does it populate them with the plugin obviously15:33
BluesKajkoontz, /opt/google , but I think you already mentioned that15:34
ni291187hi, not sure how I did it but I  went to console mode while having an x session. how do I go. ack to graphic mode?15:35
koontz ya opt/google/chrome/plugins15:35
koontzwait.... i just realized i have i386 chrome, obviously that wouldnt work with amd64 java15:35
BluesKajni291187, ctl+alt+f7-815:36
ni291187tx it worked15:36
spectresome one know C Language ??15:38
koontznow that I got the amd64 build of chrome it worked fine15:39
koontzI didnt notice google auto gave me the 386 vertsion when I used their site to download and install15:39
koontzAnd im using the oracle java (i prefer it for android)15:40
BluesKajright15:41
BluesKajFirefox doesn't accept the pepperflash plugin so some sites with newer flash players don't work15:43
koontzRight pepperflash is chromium based browsers only15:44
koontzI dont like the normal flash plugin on linux because you cant scroll over a flash element15:44
koontzIve always found that annoying over the years15:44
BluesKajFF linux is deprecated iirc15:45
koontzpretty much15:46
koontzbesides security updates15:46
koontzsame with android15:46
koontzI will be a happy man the day flash finally goes away15:46
koontzI use html5 for almost everything on youtube, which used to be the bulk of my flash usage15:47
BluesKajtoo bad, I do prefer FF for the desktop since it integrates better with the gtk font settings etc, the crome tabs are unreadable on a large monitor even with higher dpi settings15:47
koontzHmm aria2c or axel? anyone have any opinions on one might be do the job better than the other, especially for something like apt-fast?15:49
koontzerr, butchered my engrish15:49
genii!info fatrat15:51
ubottufatrat (source: fatrat): multi-protocol download manager, feature rich and extensible via plugin. In component universe, is optional. Version 1.2.0~beta2-0ubuntu6 (saucy), package size 1407 kB, installed size 3132 kB15:51
koontzya, not compatible with apt-fast15:51
koontzthanks though15:51
spectrehow to change my nickname in weechar irc please15:52
koontzspectre: /nick nickname15:52
koontzunless you mean in the weechat config, in which case read the documentation or ask in #weechat (where they will likely say the same)15:52
spectrethank you koontz15:52
koontzgenii: do you know if fatrat has a cli backend?15:53
geniikoontz: A minimal type one, yes. http://fatrat.dolezel.info/doc/contents/cmdline.html15:56
koontzcool15:56
koontzthen there might be a possibility to use the custom feature in apt-fast to make it work with fatrat, but still I think fatrat is a bit much for something as simple as apt-fast15:57

koontzHey guys, I'm back. I've deiced to put kubuntu onto my new laptop, ASUS G750W (GW750-DWP71 to be exact). Problem is being its my first UEFI machine, and while I have worked on a uefi before it had the ability to disable uefi and use a legacy mode. This laptop does not have that21:36
bpromptiirc the issue in linux is if you're dual-booting with windows7 or 8, and if you're using secureboot option fro uefi21:38
koontzSo when I go to install and do amnual partition it says I need a special boot partition (not a /boot. but i forget the wording) so I create one of those biosgrub Boot Reserve space partitioons or whatever they are called, and I assume I install grub to that, but it fails21:38
koontzya, im not using secureboot21:38
koontzthat i know for sure21:38
koontzits been disabled since i bought the thing21:38
koontzSo even when I try and use guided partitoning it still fails when it tries to install grub21:39
koontzAnd its using one of the grubbios partitions, and thats what it fails to install the bootloader to21:39
koontzSo I neecd to know the correct scheme here to get it to work. Ive seen a few others successfully get it installed on the machine, but they dont say how. And the documentation really makes zero sense to me. I have plenty of computer and linhux experiences (decades) but none with uefi21:40
koontzAll I know is its uefi, doesnt have legacy mode, and secureboot is off21:40
bpromptright21:41
koontzAnd grub fails to install when i install it to the reserve boot partition (biosgrub) partition21:42
bpromptare you dual-booting with windows?21:42
koontzAnbd obviously when I install it to the MBR like a normal bootloader, the uefi doesnt see that21:43
koontzCurrently yes. But i am gonna wipe windows.21:43
koontzBut i dont see how windows is effecting anything, because secureboot is off21:43
koontzAnd its not like i have a legacy mode.....21:44
bpromptright.... but I could be mistaken, but I'd think your partitions aren't GPT'ed  and thus the UEFI partitioning bit isn't going well21:44
koontzcould yolu elaborate21:45
bprompthmm do you know what GPT is?21:45
koontzit installs, the data is there, etc. just cant get grub to install21:45
koontzvaguely, i havent messed with gpt or uefi in awhile21:46
bpromptwell   GPT and UEFI go almost always hand in hand21:46
koontzi had a desktop that had uefi and it came with gpt partitioning originally21:46
koontzok21:46
koontzya they generally do21:46
bpromptGPT is the newer BIOS per se, the newest NVRAM chipset POST set21:47
bpromptso depending on the firmware in that machine, which is fairly new, a couple of years old, it may or may not allow UEFI-mbr boot21:48
koontzI dont mind wiping windows, i was gonna do it anyway. But i dont really understand why it would stop grub from installing. So i feel like I dont have the instructions correct as far as installing grub on a uefi machine21:50
koontzI see some things saying to use a seperate fat32 partition, then I see using this biosgrub partition thing21:50
koontzWhich is an option in the dropdown duriung the partitioning21:50
koontzwell its a pretty new machine21:50
koontzGen4 intel21:50
koontzya it doesnt allow mbr boot21:50
koontzit wont recognize a bootloader in the mbr21:50
koontzthe ubuntu installer even warns of that21:50
bpromptright..... but my guess is that the UEFI bit may try to use the GPT'ed partitions21:51
koontzok so?21:52
koontzI mean wouldnt the partitions im creating be gpt21:52
koontzif the p[artition table was originally gpt, and im just adding partitoions, they should be gpt21:52
* koontz is confused21:53
bpromptso... wipe everything, including partitions, make a new partition to install to, a GPT one21:53
koontzand as far as installing grub?21:53
bprompthmm21:53
bpromptwell... I'm thinking grub maybe stalling, thinking you had MBR partitions21:54
koontznah21:54
koontzit will install to the mbr, though that wont work21:54
koontzbut it fails if i install it to that special partition it tells me to make21:54
bprompttried the fellows at #ubuntu yet?21:55
koontznope21:55
bpromptgive them a whirl I'd think :)21:55
koontzewh...21:55
bprompthehe21:56
koontzmaybe when i get more desperate :P21:56
bpromptis the same OS you know, and some of them are rather helpful21:56
koontzoh i know21:56
koontzits not like i havent been there21:56
koontzthe channel just tends to be very busy and easily gives me a headache21:57
bpromptwell... that's workable with a good irc client21:57
bpromptI mean, i'm usually in hectic channels often, and I'd use an irc client that does hightlights or colors each nick21:58
koontzno offense to anyone here, but its mainly the population there that tends to give me a headache :P21:58
koontzWhenever I ask questions that are a bit more in depth, they never get answered.21:59
bpromptunderstood22:00
koontzim doing a bit more googling first22:00
