axgrndrhello. new to linux. hoping can get some help. having issues getting flash to work in firefox. also cant get google chrome to work which is suppose to be alternative. have only issues on ubuntu studio.. works fine on other computer running mint. anyone able to pointme in right direction?02:31
gartrali really dislike it when people only stick around 5 minutes waiting for a question to be answered04:01
gartralok all, I have a pro-audio question: I have a nice, old TS-10 synth/keyboard that i really.. really.. *REALLY* want some of the soundkits off of.. but.. I need a program that can automate the process.. any ideas?04:11
holsteinsoundkits?04:12
holsteinyou mean, the voices?04:12
holsteinnothing to say that you have software that can do anything with that information04:12
holsteini'll tell you the ultimate answer that you likely dont want to hear.. nothing in linux is preventing that unit from being read/supported by it04:13
holsteinthat being said, i would just try #opensourcemusicians and elaborate about what it is that you are trying to do04:14
gartralholstein: sure, the whole thing can be controled by midi, I have a usb midi interface.. i want a program/script that, over midi, hits a key and records the input from the soundcard to a file04:14
holsteingartral: you mean, you want to sample the synth04:15
gartralholstein: yes.. I believe that's what I want04:15
holsteinnothing i know of "automates" that.. but, i would refer to it as "sampling" in #opensourcemusicians04:15
gartralholstein: (sue me.. I'm not an audio technition or musician.. )04:15
gartrallol04:16
holsteingartral: im not tring to be rude/combative.. just trying to get you to the right place with the right terms04:16
holsteingartral: a lot of it is just knowing what to ask04:16
gartralI know, thanks04:16
gartraljust like anything else!04:16
holsteini mean, you *could* script that.. or use some screen automation process04:16
holsteinbut, the pro's do it manually04:16
holsteinthey want to hear each one, and get different levels04:16
holsteinyou could, just setup a midi sequencer to play what you want to sample.. say, each note in each voice in 5 velocities04:17
holsteinthen, just track that to what you like.. and manually edit it04:17
gartralholstein: for *this* synth, that'd be 127 samples per sound.. as it's velocity responsive.. and I want over 2k samples..04:17
holsteingartral: yup... thats why sampling is so intense04:18
gartralI *really* want to automate it..04:18
holsteingartral: sure.. you'll need to ask in that channel04:18
holsteingartral: AFAIK, you cant04:18
holsteingartral: folks get *big* money to do what you are talking about04:18
holsteingartral: its not trivial..04:18
gartralmight be interesting to build an application for it..04:19
holsteingartral: you just need to seperate out the audio in teh file i just explained how to make above04:19
gartralholstein: use arecord to record each sound to it's own file! :P04:20
holsteingartral: no04:20
holsteingartral: listen04:20
holsteingartral: you create a midi sequencing routine.. the synth plays whatever you like.. you record that *all* in one big file04:20
holsteingartral: *then* you can either manually edit that.. or, look for something that seperates it out based on silence04:21
holsteini would just do it manually04:21
holsteinthats the only way to know for sure04:22
holsteinbut, folks in #opensourcemusicians know more about it than i do..04:22
gartralholstein: the "one big file" method seems... backwards.. meh..04:22
gartralanyway, off to #opensourcemusicians04:22
holsteingartral: yeah?04:23
holsteingartral: why?04:23
holsteingartral: why not do it afterwards? there *are* things that can read the silence and seperate it04:24
holsteingartral: there are also things that can trigger whatever you like04:24
holsteingartral: you can ask in #ardour about setting up different files.. but, the files wil be in the same project likely04:24
gartralholstein: because hydrogen and rosegarden both use the seperate sounds04:24
holsteingartral: sure.. im talking about for just getting the sounds, friend04:25
holsteingartral: you are jumping to wanting to hit a button and have it all done for you04:25
holsteingartral: all im saying is.. hit a button, get a big file.. hit another.. get a bunch of little files04:25
gartralholstein: true04:25
holsteingartral: its just one other step.. and i *have* done these steps.. so i mention them becuase they are plausible04:25
holsteinits something you could literally do right ow04:26
holsteinnow*04:26
holsteingartral: i would also like to have them all in one file for editing04:28
holsteini could apply a comp or leveling to the *entire* set of samples04:28
holsteinthen, parse them out04:28
