Tracking | Hello | 02:18 |
Tracking | Does anyone here know how to use kradio4 | 02:22 |
DarthFrog | Can anyone think how I might walk a directory tree and replace all instances of : in a file name with -? | 03:08 |
tsimpson | DarthFrog: probably by using find | 03:13 |
tsimpson | there's also "rename", though I've never used it | 03:16 |
Unit193 | (rename is very handy.) | 03:16 |
DarthFrog | I shall check that out, thanks. | 03:20 |
DarthFrog | "find" will find the files but I don't know how to do the character substitution. | 03:21 |
DarthFrog | I find "find" to be very powerful but very complex. :-) | 03:21 |
tsimpson | you could mix them, find /path -type f -print | rename 's/:/-/g' | 03:27 |
DarthFrog | tsimpson: Thanks, I'll give that a shot (on a backup copy!). | 03:28 |
Unit193 | -n = noact | 03:28 |
tsimpson | there's also krename, apparently | 03:28 |
DarthFrog | Unit193: is that a dry-run command to rename? | 03:28 |
tsimpson | yep, -n/--no-act | 03:29 |
Unit193 | Right. | 03:29 |
DarthFrog | Useful, that. | 03:29 |
DarthFrog | tsimpson: It looks like that construction works. Many thanks. | 03:33 |
tsimpson | glad it worked :) | 03:35 |
DarthFrog | so am I. :-) | 03:37 |
ronnoc | Riddell: Thx | 03:38 |
DarthFrog | I have terabytes of video and music files that I need to change : and ! to other characters. My new router (Asus Dark Knight) has a DLNA server (minidlna) and it seems to barf on files with those characters in the file name. | 03:38 |
DarthFrog | DLNA rocks, BTW. :-) | 03:39 |

machstem | hey guys, using kubuntu 13.10 and am connecting to a Windows 7 x64 using KRDC. When I first initiate the session, I can copy/paste without any issue. the second I try to copy/paste something else (from kubuntu into my win7x64) it never captures the new copy and always attempts to paste the first thing I copied. If I kill the RDP session, I can redo it and it works again. Any advice/ideas? Thanks! | 15:18 |
lordievader | machstem: I had some issues with krdc lately too, I switched to the Ubuntu rdp client. | 15:19 |
machstem | lordievader, what is it called? | 15:19 |
machstem | rdesktop ? | 15:19 |
machstem | I read some forum thread about killing the rdpclip.exe process on the Windows machine, or starting a new one which is supposed to get it working again; without success. | 15:21 |
lordievader | machstem: I'm trying to find how it was called. | 15:21 |
machstem | lordievader, I had tried 2x but it lacked in options and hasn't been updated in years | 15:22 |
hateball | fwiw, I just disconnect the session and it usually works | 15:23 |
hateball | rather than actually killing it entirely | 15:23 |
hateball | Still, it is annoying at times. | 15:23 |
lordievader | machstem: Ah it was vinagre: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Vinagre (ah I know remeber that it was for vnc connections...) | 15:23 |
lordievader | Not really sure if it supports rdp too. | 15:23 |
machstem | hateball, yeah, that's what i do, but I work almost exclusively remotely (lots of my admin tools are winx64 only) and dropping my connection every couple seconds is not feasible :) | 15:24 |
lordievader | machstem: Hmm sorry, vinagre doesn't seem to support rdp connections. | 15:24 |
machstem | i prefer to run all my ssh backend stuff on my linux box and then just copy/paste results into my winx64 box afterward to avoid using putty | 15:24 |
hateball | sometimes I get weird issues like a blank line jumping into klipper/clipboard, but if I actively pick something in klippers history it will work properly again | 15:24 |
machstem | lordievader, thanks for looking :) | 15:25 |
machstem | hateball, what do you mean "in klippers history" ? | 15:25 |
hateball | machstem: I am assuming you use klipper, and by default it has a history of... 10 items? | 15:25 |
hateball | sometimes a blank entry makes it to the top, and no matter if you use ctrl+c/v it wont replace it | 15:26 |
machstem | umm, i am using KRDC (KDE Remote Desktop client) | 15:26 |
hateball | so I click the tray icon and choose an item | 15:26 |
hateball | machstem: Yes... but klipper manages your clipboard | 15:26 |
hateball | ... assuming you run it | 15:26 |
machstem | hateball, ah, i see...that's the pair of scissors icon ? | 15:27 |
hateball | machstem: yep | 15:27 |
* hateball cant imagine someone working without klipper ;p | 15:27
machstem | so, this might be conflicting with krdc ? | 15:27 |
machstem | or how do i manage that ? | 15:27 |
machstem | i see my history when i click it | 15:28 |
machstem | so i "select" what i want and then try ? | 15:28 |
hateball | well you can easily see if you have a blank entry at the top of the list | 15:28 |
hateball | yes, clicking an item should put it back into your clipboard | 15:28 |
hateball | and it should work across krdc as well | 15:28 |
hateball | if not.. time to disconnect and find a workaround I guess :p | 15:29 |
machstem | hateball, lol I never had these strange issues with openSUSE KDE, just started with kubuntu | 15:29 |
hateball | oh well :) | 15:30 |
hateball | They happen infrequently enough for me to not care | 15:30 |
machstem | yeah, but it's a very large part of what i do :( | 15:31 |
machstem | that's my beef | 15:31 |
hateball | Yeah I get that | 15:31 |
hateball | Just saying... for *me* it works well enough, and I run a minimum of 4 sessions open at all times... | 15:31 |
hateball | so one can wonder what triggers it | 15:31 |
machstem | ok, so i disabled klipper | 15:31 |
machstem | retrying | 15:31 |
machstem | sec | 15:31 |
machstem | nope lol still keeps the first/last one i copied | 15:32 |
sorakun__ | hello | 15:32 |
hateball | machstem: It should be noted I am on 12.04, perhaps there are bugs introduced in whatever version you are using | 15:33 |
machstem | 13.10 here | 15:33 |
machstem | i figured i'd reformat and use the latest (fth of it) | 15:33 |
machstem | ugh, so annoying :) | 15:35 |
hateball | machstem: so this happens on any given machine? | 15:36 |
hateball | for me, when it happens, it doesnt always affect all sessions | 15:36 |
machstem | let me rdp into my home session, sec | 15:36 |
machstem | ok, well this is just messed ! lol | 15:37 |
machstem | So, the RDP work session is keeping the 1st copy and pastes in the RDP session. the 2nd RDP session keeps my 2nd copy and pastes that. Depending on which session I use, I get different copy/paste | 15:38 |
=== sujith_h_ is now known as sujith_home
hateball | machstem: and you are copying in the host or guest session? | 15:40 |
machstem | copying FROM HOST into GUEST session | 15:41 |
machstem | So, from ubuntu TO windows | 15:41 |
hateball | machstem: you can try adding, in the extra param field "-r clipboard:CLIPBOARD" | 15:42 |
hateball | for the connection to the guest | 15:42 |
machstem | where do i add that? (please) | 15:42 |
hateball | krdc -> connect to something -> you have that field | 15:42 |
machstem | under the "extra options" section ? | 15:43 |
hateball | yeah it's a white field | 15:43 |
machstem | sec | 15:43 |
hateball | I run swedish locale, so not sure of the name :p | 15:43 |
machstem | hehe | 15:43 |
machstem | hmm, adding that parameter doesn't allow me to "complete" a connection to my win7 workstations now | 15:45 |
hateball | well, without the "" | 15:45 |
machstem | yes, without the quotes | 15:45 |
hateball | that's muchly weird, as I have that to a win7 machine right here | 15:46 |
hateball | along with some other params | 15:46 |
hateball | dunno if it chokes if you dont have klipper running | 15:46 |
machstem | hmm, good point | 15:47 |
machstem | sec | 15:47 |
machstem | nope lol | 15:48 |
machstem | damnit! :) | 15:48 |
hateball | ;f | 15:48 |
hateball | I am running out of ideas here | 15:48 |
hateball | if you connect using rdesktop from cli then? "rdesktop host.tld -r clipboard:CLIPBOARD" | 15:48 |
machstem | I am happy that you are helping in any sense | 15:48 |
machstem | let me check | 15:48 |
machstem | rdesktop is not installed | 15:49 |
machstem | are they the same ? | 15:49 |
machstem | is it deprecated maybe in 13.10 ? | 15:49 |
hateball | nah | 15:49 |
hateball | I think krdc uses a builtin freerdp | 15:49 |
hateball | but I am not sure ! | 15:49 |
machstem | ok, running an install right now | 15:49 |
hateball | on 12.04 the krdc package only recommends rdesktop... it doesnt depend on it | 15:51 |
hateball | so dunno if it only does vnc without... or waev | 15:51 |
hateball | this install is so old, I have no idea what I have installed along the way anyhow :D | 15:51 |
hateball | hmmm kubuntu-full should pull in rdesktop it seems | 15:52 |
hateball | machstem: do you have freerdp installed? in case it got changed to that. I dont think krdc has an internal rdp client | 15:52 |
machstem | sec, talking with a colleague; our filtering software prevents downloads directly from IP addresses (which apt-get tends to do) so it's not installing anything through apt-get :) | 15:55 |
hateball | oh well, I must take my leave for now. good luck | 15:55 |
machstem | ok thanks for the advice and help | 15:56 |
