starratsgood morning, my question is this,  I had to totally re-install 14.04, had some problems with dist-upgrade, sent a pastebin.ubuntu.com and also to the launchpad, did anyone see it?12:36
starratsI think I took care of that problem but today as I was running the update/upgrade I got a not saying 1 package kept back and the package is this 'usb-modeswitch-data' what does this mean?12:38
starratsnote/not12:38
brainwashstarrats: it cannot be upgraded due to a dependency issue12:45
starratswell I did the update/upgrade successfully and when I went to dist-upgrade it said there were no upgrades and it said 1 package kept back and that package was the 'usb-modeswitch-data'.  I did not get any other warning concerning any other errors.12:48

ubottuLaunchpad bug 1270499 in usb-modeswitch (Ubuntu) "Install conflict with Trusty repos (with workaround)" [Undecided,Confirmed]12:50
starratsyesterday I did get a warning that popped up about xscreensaver and xlockmore but that didn't show up at all today and late last night I continued the dist-upgrade thru pasckage manager and all went quite well12:50
brainwashwe you asked to confirm the removal of xscreensaver?12:51
starratsdon't know if it was removed, the little window that popped up during dist-upgrade said something about a restart, I did and then I did the package manager dist-upgrade and there was a little note that 55 pkgs wer not going to be installed but this morning there wasn't any alert on top by the clock/date but the pointer did freeze on me again and I just a hard shutdown on the laptop and then tried again and the pointer was not 'fro13:05
starratszen', I need to know how to stop the 'frozen pointer' problem and freezes just as I want to put my password in.13:05
starratsI did send my problems to pastebin.ubuntu.com last night about my problems that occurred after I re-installed 14.0413:12
starratsit was a copy of the terminal output13:13
starratsmy question to someone here that can answer me is this.  Did you see my pastebin.ubuntu on my install problems, lines 17 and 18 are the same as today, using apt-get install -f ?13:30
bluesabrestarrats: link?13:36
bluesabrecatfish 1.0.2 released: https://launchpad.net/catfish-search/1.0/1.0.213:36
brainwashstarrats: please file a launchpad report and attach your terminal output to the report14:50
starratsbrainwash:  I filed a launch report thru pastebin.ubuntu.com last night and it's still the same.  sorry for the late reply was downstairs making breakfast and helping my gf.16:13
brainwashstarrats: pastebin.ubuntu.com is just a pastebin service and not an actual bug report16:16
starratsokay let me see if I can get it on launchpad16:17
starratson the launchpad.net, where do I paste my terminal output, I see nothing about reporting a bug, sorry16:26
brainwashstarrats: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/16:35
brainwashoh, the link for "Report a bug" in the top right corner seems to be broken16:36
brainwashit redirects you to the wiki page16:36
brainwashstarrats: you can open a terminal window and run "ubuntu-bug <package>" instead16:37
brainwashUnit193: anything you want to ask?20:29
Unit193Wsa kind of wondering how long apport retracing took..20:29
brainwashin general?20:30
brainwashbtw https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfwm4/4.11.1-2ubuntu120:30
brainwash"xubuntu seamless greeter to desktop transition" is now activated, hopefully we don't encounter any hardware/driver specific issues20:32
brainwashworks fine here, restricted and open source AMD driver20:33
ali1234Unit193: there's a queue for that... can be fast or slow20:34
ali1234you can run it locally in a chroot with just a couple commands20:34
Unit193brainwash: Something is crappy here.20:34
Unit193ali1234: Ah, well then. :/20:35
ali1234http://www.piware.de/2011/08/apport-retrace-made-useful/20:35
ali1234might be a little outdated20:35
brainwashoh, worth a bookmark20:36
brainwashali1234: bug 105697820:39
ubottubug 1056978 in xfwm4 (Ubuntu) "Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/105697820:39
brainwashso it got solved in metacity20:39
brainwashmaybe the solution could be adopted20:40
ali1234i tried to fix this20:40
ali1234the frame drawing code is a huge mess in xfwm20:41
ali1234and in the end, you can't make invisible windows in X that still receive input. it's just not possible.20:41
ali1234i will look at how metacity did it20:41
ali1234but i suspect it will be done in the compositor20:41
brainwashbut isn't xfwm4 a fork or whatever of metacity?20:42
ali1234sort of20:42
ali1234but it was a long time ago20:42
ali1234they are very different now20:42
brainwashah, I see :/20:42
ali1234if anyone else wants to have a shot at this i'll be happy to provide help/mentoring20:44
brainwashyou are one of the few people who are somewhat familiar with xfwm4 =S20:46
Noskcajxfwm4 is now updated for greeter-desktop transition20:59
ali1234thanks20:59
ali1234hopefully if it works fine in the release it can be turned on by default21:00
brainwashNoskcaj: thanks :)21:01
Noskcajthe uploader changed it from cflags to cppflags, is that a problem?21:02
ali1234i dunno. if it works, it works21:03
ali1234it definitely shouldn't affect anything else21:03
brainwashNoskcaj: can you please mark bug 1258978 as wishlist?21:22
ubottubug 1258978 in xfce4-session (Ubuntu) "can't lock the screen from the logout dialog" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/125897821:22
