Unit193Well that's fun.  Live CD?  Tried nomodeset?04:23
Potato_PowerI am a bit of a noob to Linux04:25
Potato_Powernomodeset?04:25
Unit193If it's a live CD, it's in the F6 boot options.04:27
Unit193!nomodeset04:27
ubottuA common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter04:27
Potato_Powerokay04:40
Potato_PowerThe graphical glitch only occurs after the desktop is loaded.04:40
Potato_PowerSorry for taking so long04:40

vn151502510https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub212:32
maxxa4maybe there's a difference between ubuntu and lubuntu?12:32
maxxa4be back12:32
vn151502510lubuntu, but in menu, it is "Advanced options for Ubuntu"12:33
maxxa4vn151502510: thanks man (or woman) . you soved my problem12:43
maxxa4problem is with kernel 3.11.0-1812:44
maxxa4everything works well with 3.11.0-1712:44
maxxa4so i suppose 3.11.0-18 is a bad kernel update12:45
maxxa4do i need to do something or do i just go on using the old kernel and ignore the issue?12:47
maxxa4by the way the way to get gurb menu to show was holding shift key12:48
maxxa4on my machine at least12:48
vn151502510I dont know how to report, really, sorry. But I think u should change the GRUB_DEFAULT in /boot/grub/grub.cfg12:49
maxxa4ok thanks again12:49
maxxa4in what part of the world are you? (if i may ask)12:50
vn151502510me, from Vietnam12:51
maxxa4me, from Italy12:51
maxxa4nice :)12:51
vn151502510no distance12:51
maxxa4thanks and have a good day :)12:52
vn151502510same to u12:52
MikaelaI think that you should edit /etc/default/grub and then run update-grub as root to update /boot/grub/grub.cfg12:52
MikaelaOtherwise your modifications disappear when you update grub next time or kernel upgrade does.12:52
vn151502510good point12:52
MikaelaOr alternatively you could edit something in /etc/grub.d/ and then run update-grub as root.12:52
maxxa4what about just waiting for new updates that will correct the bug? will this do it?12:54
MikaelaWhich bug?12:56
MikaelaAnd is it reported to launchpad?12:56
maxxa43.11.0-18 is bad kernel ... it got me disconnected (ethernet connection not working) and dismoused (mouse not working)12:57
maxxa4not reported (at least not from me)12:58
maxxa4will maybe see how to do it later12:58
maxxa4do you need an account or something?12:59
MikaelaIf there isn't report, run "ubuntu-bug <package>" in terminal and it should tell you how.12:59
MikaelaYes, you need Launchpad/Ubuntu account, same as you use with Ubuntu ONE if you use it.12:59
maxxa4ok thanks to all you gentle helpers around the world :) (where are you Mikaela if i may ask?)13:01
MikaelaYou're welcome :) I'm in Kotka, Finland.13:01
maxxa4LOVE SUOMI :)13:02
maxxa4bye13:02
MikaelaBye :)13:03
OsmodivsThere are some bugs that are really need to be fixed. I cut and past an ISO file from my HDD to a USB USB stick, for some reason, it tells it cannot do the operation, and then the ISO file is missing in my HDD.  I have plenty of space on my USB sitck, and I am moving other files here, so I don't think is the USB15:50
OsmodivsLubuntu just lost my data.15:50
Osmodivsthis should be documented: if you copy-paste, and open one of the folders of the destination, Lubuntu will crash and close all windows and loose your data, it just happen again with pictures :(16:06
Osmodivs12.04.4 is sure buggy as hell.16:07
OsmodivsIs there a Lubuntu developers room where I can properly complain about this buggy OS?16:16
MikaelaOsmodivs: Try #ubuntu+116:19

henryCI tried to lubuntu 14.04 over kubuntu 14.04 and I only get "Invalid Password".  I tried fresh install, delete everything, same problem.  Any ideas?23:32
henryC*to install*23:32
ianorlininvalid password at login screen?23:37
henryCsorry, solved I think, please disregard.23:38
henryCHm, logged in but didn't get far.  I rarely use this old laptop so I wanted to try lubuntu to save resources.  Very first thing I tried was running Firefox to download Google.  Crashes immediately, invalid string constant "resize-grip".  I pulled the daily build just a couple hours ago.  I see someone posted this prob. to launchpad on Feb. 23.  Suggestions?23:45
phillwhenryC: use lubuntu software centre to grab chromium23:48
henryCalthough, of course I first tried apt-get and it was not found.  I'm making mistakes.  I'm not feeling well.  Thanks I'll try it.23:48
Unit193apt-get update, then install.23:49
henryChm yeah I guess I was trying for google-chrome-beta, forgot about the ppa stuff.  I'm kind of going back and forth from my desktop to laptop until I can at least have a browser.23:52
henryCI was hoping that using lubuntu and trying jupiter might give me more than the sad 2 hours I get out of this old Dell Inspiron battery life.23:55
henryCgoogle-chrome-beta immediately core dumps.  apt-get install chromium only shows some bsu candidate, apparently something having nothing to do with the browser in question.23:59
