[20:24] <mavblue> unless I make it a primary backend with frontend, which is undesirable considering I already have an existing server
[20:25] <mavblue> so the question is, what are the packages I need to install on my server(which has no gui) to proceed with installing the frontend?

[23:07] <Kwisher> then why do you need mythtv?
[23:08] <MavBlue> mythbuntu was recommended as a good media centre distro
[23:08] <Kwisher> just install xbmc on the f/e machine and share the media from the server
[23:08] <Kwisher> mythtv is a pvr
[23:09] <Kwisher> can be used as a media center but it would be overkill
[23:09] <MavBlue> can you recommend a good lightweight xbmc distro then?

[23:10] <MavBlue> and full blown ubuntu is a tad heavy for this old pc
[23:11] <Kwisher> well if it won't run ubuntu then mythtv would be out of the question
[23:11] <MavBlue> I'm hoping, with fingers crossed, to find a distro intended for use as a media center and nothing extra
[23:12] <MavBlue> I'm sure it will run ubuntu, but unity is pretty overkill resourcewise

[23:12] <MavBlue> I'm hoping to be able to play 720p without the gui getting in the way
[23:13] <Kwisher> you will need an nvidia card to offload to the gpu
