rostamHi I on my system I have a 120G ssd and 2G usb stick. I like to install the ubuntu server in efi mode, such that /boot/efi to be mounted off the usb stick, and the root filesystem mounted off the ssd disk. How could I accomplish this? thx17:01
RoyKrostam: just curious, but why not /boot on the ssd?17:11
j0lzrostam, go for manual partitioning and enter partitions manually ... usb /boot/efi and then partitions with mount / and another for swap17:14
j0lzon the ssd17:14
j0lzrostam, remember to put grub on the /boot/efi partition17:14
specialkevinI have noticed in syslog that ufw is showing some blocked connections for a rule that is setup to allow those connections. It doesn't happened all the time. Every few hours I will see a batch of them. I know the rule works in general because it is allowing connections now.17:15
j0lzrostam, so you have to make that partition bootable flag when partitioning17:15
j0lzspecialkevin, do you have fail2ban running?17:16
specialkevinj0lz: yes, but not for watching this17:18
specialkevinThe connection is a database connection on an internal network17:18
j0lzit sounds like ufw just doing it's job like blocking a flood or something like that17:18
Davieya17:19
ilhamiIt's booting up without full network config17:19
ilhamithe problem is dhcp17:19
specialkevinj0lz: well if that was the case I would expect 100s of blocked connections. The number varies from 5 to 10 in the period that they refuse connections17:20
rostamjolz: thanks for your feedback, I got some errors and I started the reinstallation again. Is there a link or site that has references to what you just recommanded? thx17:22
j0lzspecialkevin, true it must be something else - my own mysql servers sometimes disappear for a moment or 2 ..17:23
rostamj0lz, how can I make the grub partition bootable, this is for efi mode? thx17:23
j0lzrostam, not that i know of because that is a highly customised partitioning scheme - I mess around a bit with partitions and had to boot from a usb because of having 2 raids on an old machine which i couldnt boot from so had to put the /boot on the usbn17:25
specialkevinj0lz: anything thoughts on how I could debug this further or get more logging output from ufw when it blocks something17:25
j0lzrostam, i dont use efi mode but that is just selected from your bios .. to make the partition bootable you select the option for the partition when you are manually partitioning it juring install17:27
j0lzduring*17:28
rostamj0lz, thx17:28

hallynjamespage: bah, i was thinking it was being created by qemu package;  apparently it just doesn't exist now?19:09
specialkevinjdstrand: would I just modify the user.rules file to increase it?19:10
jdstrandspecialkevin: yeah, you can do that and then do 'sudo ufw reload'19:11
jdstrandspecialkevin: problem is, it will get overwritten19:11
jdstrandspecialkevin: another idea is to add the rules to /etc/ufw/before.rules19:11
jdstrandthose aren't overwritten19:11
specialkevinjdstrand: would I just copy the limit-burst lines from user.rules into before.rules with the increased value?19:13
jdstrandspecialkevin: you would want to change ufw-user-input to ufw-before-input19:14
specialkevinjdstrand: I don't have a ufw-user-input with a limit line. The only limits are in user.rules under the #Logging section like this one. -A ufw-after-logging-input -j LOG --log-prefix "[UFW BLOCK] " -m limit --limit 3/min --limit-burst 1019:17
