ogra_hedz09, that blogpost you posted last night says: "... hardware acceleration (support for the BBB's PowerVR SGX 530 GPU) is not yet available for the 3.8 kernel ... ". You *need* hardware accelerated graphics to run Ubuntu Touch on your device, you need working EGL/GLES, so you will need a kernel that the binary drivers support (and you will indeed need the binary drivers themselves)08:01
tshirtmancjwatson: thanks08:02

SaviqChipaca, yeah, mako does that sometimes, usually just requires patience and a high-current charger10:09

ogra_hedz09, the binary driver will be built against a certain kernel version, a) find the binary driver for the BBB, b) get the kernel source of the matching version and inject it to your build (with the right config)10:53
hedz09ogra_: I recalled that I did some changes to my device/ti/beagleboneblack files and when I tried to deploy the build I had a similar issue with CM on the /system/bin/sh part. At the time I thought it was a permission issue. I went back to a previous revision and it worked.10:55

davmor2mhr3: I keep seeing an odd issue.  Open an app, swipe from right to left to close the app and the screen will just lock on the new apps scope, doesn't happen all the time but enough to be annoying11:36
mhr3Saviq, ^11:36
Saviqdavmor2, hmm can't repro with just one app, if I had to guess it has to do with performance, the click scope refreshes very often, and reloading it all could result in a second or two hang11:39
Saviqmhr3, you not blocking the gui thread yet?11:39
mhr3Saviq, i dont think the scope is refreshing11:40
davmor2mhr3, Saviq: oh interesting this one is easily reproducible, open an app, swipe from right to left, if it doesn't lock up first time click on the app again repeat until it locks.  When the screen blanks it unlocks the device when you hit the power buttin again11:40
mhr3Saviq, and when we do block we never block the ui thread for more than 300ms11:40

Saviqdavmor2, swipe from left to right, though?11:41

hedz09ogra_: perfect, how do I go about injecting those binaries into the kernel build? (I'm doing the kernel build separately)11:44
davmor2Saviq: okay try this way, goto the scopes scope, click on the weather channel scope, in the weather channel scope select the big blue weather channel icon, then click on hourly, then swipe the screen from left to right with that app11:44
davmor2mhr3: ^11:45
ogra_hedz09, no idea :) usually devices have a script to pull the binaries from somewhere and put them in the build tree, i never had to do with that part of the build11:45
ogra_hedz09, rsalveti might be able to help if he gets online later11:46
davmor2I can open and swipe the app about 1-15 times and it will lock up till I blank the screen11:46
davmor2no crash though11:46
Saviqdavmor2, nope, all fluent here...11:46
mhr3davmor2, fine here11:46
Saviqdavmor2, one interesting question: do edges work still when it locks up?11:47
Saviqdavmor2, or the whole UI stuck?11:47
davmor2Saviq: let me try11:47
mhr3Saviq, edges worked when it happened to me11:47
mhr3that was able to get it unstuck11:48
davmor2Saviq: yes the edges still work11:48
davmor2Saviq: so the left edge pulls out the launcher and the right edge bring the app back up and then the device is unblocked11:48
Saviqdavmor2, right, so that's one thing we need to look at, unrelated to new scopes11:49
Saviqdavmor2, somehow Qt gets confused about mouse input, as opposed to touch input, which the edges use11:50
SaviqI thought it was reported somewhere... can't find it now...11:51
davmor2Saviq: interestingly dragging out the launcher doesn't unlock the device but drag from right to left to pull the app back does11:51
Saviqdavmor2, interesting indeed11:53
hedz09ogra_: ok :)11:54
davmor2Saviq: I guess if I click on an app in the launcher it might I'll try that in a second and see11:54

Saviqpmcgowan, hmm I wonder if it was due to music being refreshed12:35
ubot5bug 1296987 in Thumbnailer "thumbnailer should honor TMPDIR to work with apparmor policy" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/129698712:35
ubot5bug 1288742 in ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu) "clock app, gallery, etc using incorrect path for config file due to StateSaver" [High,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/128874212:35
hedz09ogra_: is kernel v3.2 fine to run Ubuntu Touch12:35
pmcgowanSaviq, when I ran top nothing was running while it hung12:35
jdstrand1288742 has a branch, it just needs to land12:35
ogra_hedz09, any kernel should be fine i think ... as long as your config is right12:35
pmcgowanjdstrand, ok cool12:35
Saviqpmcgowan, ah, next time you see it, can you please check if edges still work, we seem to have a weird input issue recently resulting in taps, swipes etc. not working, but edge-swipes still work fine12:36
Saviqpmcgowan, unrelated to new scopes, maybe triggered more easily12:36
pmcgowanSaviq, left and right worked for sure12:36
Saviqpmcgowan, right, so that's the same12:36
* Saviq tries to find the bug12:36
Saviqdavmor2, pmcgowan, bug #129562312:38
ubot5bug 1295623 in unity8 (Ubuntu) "shell is unresponsive after a night of suspend, while all other UI elements work" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/129562312:38
hedz09ogra_: ok, so if I'm able to compile a kernel with sgx, this will be resolved? init: cannot find '/system/bin/sgx/rc.pvr', disabling 'pvr' ...or do I have to put this file in android's system.img ?12:38
pmcgowanSaviq, sounds like the same symptom12:39
ogra_hedz09, well, you will need an sgx version that works with your android tree indeed12:39
timppagetting random reboots with latest trusty, just to let you know...12:39
ogra_rc.pvr sounds very specific12:39
Saviqif only that was somewhat easy to reproduce... or we had any idea wth happens12:39
pmcgowanSaviq, but seems more like something is locking the ui thread for the scopes12:39
Saviqpmcgowan, there is no separate thread for scopes12:39
pmcgowanSaviq, what happens at first boot and after a long period of time12:40
pmcgowanhmm12:40
Saviqpmcgowan, if it would really lock up, edges wouldn't work either12:40
pmcgowanSaviq, I can no longer get it to happen12:40
Saviqpmcgowan, yeah new scopes performance is another matter we'll soon be looking into - bug #129719712:41
ubot5bug 1297197 in Unity 8 "Vertical scrolling Apps scope is more jittery with new scopes" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/129719712:41
Saviqpmcgowan, we fell victim of flexibility, need to play some tricks12:41

boikomterry: then if you get a message, and click the notification before the contact matching happens, when the contact fetching returns, the notification instance is already deleted and then crashes13:51

mterryboiko, we don't ref the notification object before contact fetching?13:51
boikomterry: well, we do, but when we click it, we dismiss the notification13:52
boikomterry: and then when the contact info arrives, the notification is already gone13:52

sergiusensjdstrand, fastest way is to ubuntu-device-flash --clean-cache17:52
sergiusenswill also give you some space back17:52
jdstrandsergiusens: should the device not be in recovery mode now, or does it now matter?17:52
jdstrands/now/not/17:53
sergiusensjdstrand, recovery is fine17:53
sergiusensjdstrand, only thing you want to avoid is bootstrap and wipe ;-)17:53
jdstrandok. I cleaned the cache and am redownloading. it will be a while17:53
jdstrandyes! that is exactly what I was trying to avoid :)17:54
jdstrandsergiusens: thanks for your help17:54
sergiusensjdstrand, I'll see if I can reproduce downloads on a fill disk17:54
sergiusensgoing to be hard, as lots of randomness happens during that state17:54

cwaynethomi, hi, wasn't this fixed? https://bugs.launchpad.net/savilerow/+bug/126318220:11
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1263182 in Autopilot "Use upstart/upstart-app-launch to launch and monitor application under test" [High,In progress]20:11
cjwatsonsergiusens: do you think you could test silo 6 and see if it fixes the missing apparmor profiles for click packages that you were seeing?20:11
jdstrandsergiusens: ok, redownloaded. I am now at 25 minutes in at the Google screen with busybox in adb shell. it seems the same thing happened20:11
thomicwayne: OTP right now, but yes.. probably just haven't changed the bug status yet20:11
sergiusenscjwatson, yes I can; one sec until I upgrade20:13
sergiusensjdstrand, can you give me the /cache/recovery/log again?20:14
jdstrandok20:14
sergiusensjdstrand, we can also get ogra_ to help out navigating busybox20:17
sergiusenshe has xp with that20:17
* jdstrand is having trouble booting into recovery20:17
jdstrandit is insisting on rebooting when I let go of the power button20:18
* jdstrand keeps trying20:18
adfad666Has Ubuntu Touch been tested on msm8974 hardware / Android 4.4 binary files?20:19
jdstrandsergiusens: last_log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7153031/20:21
jdstrandmy $HOME on the laptop is not full20:21
sergiusensjdstrand, I'll need the full log as it seems recovery was booted into before20:22
jdstrandsergiusens: is this enough: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7153053/ ?20:24
sergiusensjdstrand, is that all? frm those logs, the update never happened20:25
sergiusensjdstrand, can you give me the listing for /cache/recovery ?20:25
jdstrandsergiusens: there is stuff from before, but that is what I gave earlier in the day20:25
jdstrandsergiusens: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7153063/20:26
sergiusensjdstrand, ah, last_log.X .... can I see those?20:27
tvossdavmor2, glad that it helped20:27
davmor2tvoss: added some sensible tests for the poc to the email thread I hope they makes sense20:28
jdstrandsergiusens: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7153086/20:28
cjwatsonsergiusens: I've tested it myself and it seems OK, but I didn't have the original problem so it depends on whether I managed to accurately reproduce the key element of it in the test suite :-)20:28
sergiusenscjwatson, sure, my flashing to devel-proposed and going to confirm in a bit20:31
sergiusensjdstrand, so 3 seems to be the delta update you did to 250 from the ui; 2 is the failed update and no more updates came20:32
sergiusensjdstrand, can you rm the files in /cache/recovery and run the flash command again?20:32
sergiusensjdstrand, seems nothing was flashed20:32
jdstrandsergiusens: I didn't do a delta update today. I was already on 250. I was trying to reflash cause things seemed weird20:32
jdstrandre rm> sure20:33
sergiusensjdstrand, log.2 says so Applying update: ubuntu-6da8e29395f74a38c1473fe3a1dccba8cb3cb686c418aac0668584cdbf5bcc4e.delta-ubuntu-42dea174efd5f94b417a7debd3770fe47b0f9f2b3af0f2875029d1680612f071.tar.xz20:33

dobeymeh20:34
dobeycjwatson: ^^ i keep getting errors about that /opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click/ and symlinks trying to install/remove apps20:34
cjwatsondobey: what's the ownership of /opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click/users/phablet ?20:35
jdstrandsergiusens: I don't know what to say. I didn't do that. at the time is said that (Starting recovery on Tue Mar 25 16:03:21 2014) that was around the time the first flash completed20:35
dobeywhee, and unity just froze on me20:35
jdstrandsergiusens: I'm confused20:35
jdstrandI will delete the files and try again20:35
cjwatsondobey: and did you create that directory by hand at any point?  there was a bug a week or two back where it wasn't auto-created, and I suspect some people manually created it with the wrong ownership as a result20:35
dobeycjwatson: it's phablet.phablet now20:35
dobeycjwatson: no, i never created it by hand20:35
sergiusensjdstrand, I'm not saying you did it today; on Sat Mar 22 16:38:07 201420:36
jdstrandsergiusens: actually, I might have done that-- I had two devices plugged in. I could have made a mistake20:36
dobeyand unit froze so i have to reboot it now20:36
cjwatsondobey: phablet:phablet should be fine - can you figure out some kind of reproduction case for me?20:36
jdstrandsergiusens: so, delete everything in recovery or just the tar.xz files?20:37
sergiusensjdstrand, it's impossible to flash delta images with ubuntu-device-flash, it filters "full" images only20:37
sergiusensjdstrand, sould be safe to delete everything in there20:37
dobeycjwatson: i just did an "ubuntu-device-flash --wipe --channel trusty-proposed" today, and it started happening after i removed the amazon click20:37
jdstrandsergiusens: right, but I did do a system-image-cli ealier, thinking it was on the tablet. it is conceivable I picked the wrong device and did it on the phone. I don't know at this point, I lost the terminal...20:38
cjwatsondobey: I was hoping for something that wouldn't require me to spend hours reflashing (my network is slow).  perhaps if you could provide "find /opt/click.ubuntu.com -ls" and a command that fails20:38
dobeybah, after that last rm -rf /opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click it seems to work now :(20:38
cjwatsoncommand or UI action20:38
cjwatsonah, well, can't help you if you destroy evidence :)20:39
cjwatsonmaybe somebody else will run across it20:39
dobeywell i've done that several times today already20:39
dobeyand it would let me remove one app, and then it would break again20:39
cjwatsonat least move it aside, next time20:39
jdstrandsergiusens: hrmm... http://paste.ubuntu.com/7153152/20:39

sergiusensjdstrand, can you check file permissions in that dir?20:42
jdstrandsergiusens: I see a twirling ubuntu logo!20:42

* jdstrand crosses fingers and toes harder20:47

jdstrandI see the greeter20:49
jdstrandsergiusens: thanks again :)20:49
sergiusensjdstrand, that's good to hear20:50
sergiusensjdstrand, I'll add a check for disk space prior to downloading20:50
sergiusensshould help a bit20:50
cjwatsondobey: hm.  thanks.  can't reproduce yet - if you see it again can you get that find output?  maybe the permissions are bonkers are something20:50
cjwatson*or something20:50
cjwatsonsergiusens: brilliant, thanks, I'll see about releasing that20:51
dobeycjwatson: yeah20:53
cwaynehmm, im not sure that fix is in, from the CI dashboard, it's still not seeing the themes..20:55

cwaynefailing because of "theme not Found"22:31
thomicwayne: right, so:22:31

thomicwayne: the test suite is not launching the app as an upstart / click app22:32
thomicwayne: so the new code isn't being used. The test authors need to tell autopilot to launch the app as an upstart or click app22:32
thomicwayne: using http://unity.ubuntu.com/autopilot/api/testcase.html#autopilot.testcase.AutopilotTestCase.launch_click_package or http://unity.ubuntu.com/autopilot/api/testcase.html#autopilot.testcase.AutopilotTestCase.launch_upstart_application22:34
cwaynei thought the whole point is that it should always be launched as upstart apps?22:34
cwayneas in, there shouldnt be a way to launch an app not with upstart22:35
thomicwayne: not at all. If we did that we'd break all our desktop clients22:40
thomicwayne: the point was to support launching apps via upstart. But test authors need to opt-in22:40
thomiwe wouldn't be able to land an opt-out model anyway22:40
sergiusensthomi, you might not want everyone t call the launching method upstart22:55
sergiusensboth are upstart jobs fwiw22:55
sergiusensone is legacy, the other is click22:56
sergiusensmore so since the upstart name will become irrelevant soonish (not so soon, but systemd timeframe soon)22:56
