[17:24] OvenWerk1: Works fine in gnome. I'll try it in Unity once I get the chance [17:24] (I haven't tried Gnome in 14.04, though, so I shouldn't say anything yet) [21:01] stochastic: Would you be interested in re-introducing linux-rt into Ubuntu? Not to replace linux-lowlatency, however. As an addition. [21:02] I've been planning on doing that, but lack of time, and other priorities have made me not even begin to work on that [21:11] zequence, what would the motivation for doing that be? [21:17] stochastic: -rt performs better. But, it's more work maintaining it, of course [21:18] -lowlatency is alright, and best of all, it's mostly maintained by Canonical (just recently there was a bug that only affected threadirqs enabled kernels, so those do happen) [21:19] in the case of the bug, we had to disable threadirqs during development, until the bug was fixed in vanilla, and found its way to Ubuntu [21:20] ..but -lowlatency is not optimal in all situations [21:20] not a top priority in any way, but it would be nice to also have a -rt to choose from [21:20] well given that there's not many UbuntuStudio devs currently, I think maintaining a new kernel flavour would be a tall task [21:21] particularly if it's just for slight improvement in some situations [21:21] well, that all depends on the individual interestes among the developers [21:21] I'll consider it though. [21:21] only if you'd like to do it [21:22] the biggest issue with have, I think, is that we don't have a testing routine in place at all [21:22] we import packages directly from Debian, but sometimes they are bugyy [21:23] ..and if they are fixed, the fix comes later than it needed to [21:23] and, rt privilege, if considering the whole of Ubuntu, not just Ubuntu Studio [21:24] stochastic: are you well acquainted with setting up a system for low latency? And, do you have good experience in the effects of certain configs? [21:25] stochastic: If you do, it would be nice if you had a look at what we have, or lack. [21:26] well acquainted, not quite; familiar, yes. [21:26] stochastic: Well, don't hesitate to ask about anything. Between me and OvenWerk1, we know pretty much everything that makes up Ubuntu Studio [21:27] ..and no doubt, we are missing obvious possible improvements [21:27] I mean, we could be [21:29] just today, I had a discussion with some people at #ardour about a2jmidid. jack1 autoruns it. jack2 doesn't [21:29] that kind of stuff. midi tweaking is something I have been involved in very little [21:31] I'll start working on next cycle planning this week, so that we can start defining features for next release (trusty+1)
