WugRAOF: nothing more to say?02:46
RAOFWug: No, sorry. Although I suspect it's by design that you don't get an iconify event.02:56
Wugthat is patently absurd02:57
WugI hope, for unity's sake, that you're wrong02:57
RAOFWell, your window doesn't actually get unmapped or anything.03:12
WellarkSaviq: you remember me asking about the errors in unity8 log at runtime?06:43
Wellarkthis should fix at least couple of them06:43
Wellarkhttps://code.launchpad.net/~kaijanmaki/qmenumodel/unitymenumodel_setname-allow-empty-string/+merge/21376806:43
Wellark:)06:43
Wellark"GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **" always looks so nice06:44
tsdgeosMacSlow: what's up with the failing tests at https://code.launchpad.net/~macslow/unity8/modal-snap-decisions/+merge/210988 ? are they related to that code?08:34
tsdgeoshmmmm08:37
tsdgeosis it me or we don't build anymore?08:37
mzanettiSaviq: did it land yet?08:37
tsdgeosdoesn't look like08:38
Saviqmzanetti, it's in proposed as of 4 hours ago, but apparently thumbnailer didn't get FFe08:38
Saviqmzanetti, it's in the hands of the archive admins now08:38
tsdgeosyeah no build08:38
mzanettihow is the thumbnailer related?08:38
mzanettitsdgeos: unity8?08:38
tsdgeosyeah08:38
Saviqmzanetti, was in the same silo,08:39
tsdgeosthis train thing is not that nice when people forget about your stop08:39
Saviqfixing a unity8 crash08:39
tsdgeos↑ worst analogy ever :D08:39
mzanetti:D08:39
Saviqtsdgeos, why would we not build? like trunk?08:39
tsdgeosbecause someone changed something and forgot about us i guess08:39
tsdgeosSaviq: yes, trunk08:39
Saviqtsdgeos, just built --clean, works?08:40
tsdgeosno08:40
tsdgeoscan do it again08:40
tsdgeosbut just did it :D08:40
Saviqtsdgeos, I mean it does here08:40
Saviqwork08:40
tsdgeosSaviq: how many silos/ppas do you have08:40
Saviqtsdgeos, none08:41
tsdgeosand when's the last time you dist-upgraded?08:41
tsdgeoshttp://paste.ubuntu.com/7193392/ is what i get08:41
tsdgeoslet me cleanbbuild again08:41
Saviqtsdgeos, you have a unity8/unity-mir mismatch08:42
Saviqtsdgeos, apt-cache policy libunity-mir-dev?08:42
tsdgeoshttp://paste.ubuntu.com/7193395/08:43
tsdgeoslooks good to me08:43
Saviqtsdgeos, yeah, unity-mir got through from proposed apparently08:44
Saviqtsdgeos, but unity8 did not, yet08:44
Saviqtsdgeos, so it's not in trunk08:44
tsdgeos\o/ for the train08:44
tsdgeos:D08:44
tsdgeosi thought it was there to fix specifically stuff like this08:44
tsdgeosmaybe i misunderstood its purpose08:44
Saviqtsdgeos, no, just means we fucked our deps08:45
Saviqto some extent08:45
Saviqanyway, it'll sort out soon08:45
tsdgeosok08:45
tsdgeosSaviq: btw where're you?08:46
Saviqtsdgeos, recovering08:46
tsdgeosi don't think you can say where're :D08:46
tsdgeosSaviq: stop working late!08:46
Saviqtsdgeos, 3am isn't late08:46
Saviqbut yeah, will be there soon-ish08:46
tsdgeosok, stop working early!08:47
Saviqtsdgeos, :D08:48
tsdgeosMacSlow: what's up with the failing tests at https://code.launchpad.net/~macslow/unity8/modal-snap-decisions/+merge/210988 ? are they related to that code?08:48
CimiSaviq, still those notifications don't appear after adding those files from unity8, can you repeat me the required bits for this to work?08:49
MacSlowtsdgeos, I thought my last commit to that fixed it... which was just to make jenkins happy anyway.08:50
MacSlowtsdgeos, hm... and the needed unity-notification branch is also not merged yet... damn it08:51
SaviqMacSlow, can you help Cimi with bringing notifications over to the welcome wizard (it's working pre-greeter even, so it needs to handle them itself)08:53
MacSlowtsdgeos, the need for the data-RolesEnum to be coming from unity-api now bombed on the whole modal-snap-decision feature...08:53
SaviqCimi, I'll be in the office in an hour or so if you don't get it by then08:54
Saviqmzanetti, hey, now that you're off the hook, I'd like you to look into one, hopefully relatively small, thing08:54
MacSlowSaviq, "just one more thing..." ok *sigh* I'll try my best08:54
mzanettiSaviq: ok... which is?08:54
Saviqmzanetti, if you start an app outside of upstart, closing it in the shell doesn't SIGTERM/SIGKILL it08:54
mzanettiah yeah. annoys me like hell all the time. will have a look08:55
MacSlowCimi, so what do you need in the welcome-wizard08:55
MacSlow?08:55
Saviqmzanetti, cool, zbenjamin (#sdk) will be happy08:55
Saviqbiab08:56
MacSlowtsdgeos, so regarding that unity8 branch for modal snap-decision... it needs lp:~macslow/unity-notifications/modal-snap-decisions to be in place too... but that is blocked on the new need to expose the enum Roles via lp:unity-api now... which I cannot figure out how to make work... it works with just the initial branch of mine.08:57
tsdgeosMacSlow: i see, do you need help on that enum exposing?08:58
MacSlowtsdgeos, I've added it all to the MP-desciption of lp:~macslow/unity8/modal-snap-decisions and lp:~macslow/unity-notifications/modal-snap-decisions08:58
mzanettitsdgeos: MacSlow I guess all that's missing is the include path for unity-api/notifications in unity-notifications08:59
MacSlowtsdgeos, well I have it working with lp:~macslow/unity-notifications/modal-snap-decisions ... but I've been trying to figure out how to make it work from lp:unity-api ... and just don't have a clue08:59
mzanettiand then obviously inlcude ModelInterface.h08:59
mzanettiand use the enum as "ModelInterface::SomeType"09:00
MacSlowCimi, ?09:00
* mzanetti reboot09:00
MacSlowSaviq, what's the requirement... I remember Cimi asking me about the notification-daemon yesterday... but that's about it.09:01
MacSlowmzanetti, but won't that collide with the defines of unity-notifiations itself?09:04
tsdgeosahhhh it's not that it doesn't build09:07
tsdgeosit's that i can't run it either09:07
tsdgeos:'(09:07
CimiMacSlow, was having a cofffee09:08
CimiMacSlow, I have wifi listview09:09
MacSlowmzanetti, so I need to remove the enums from unity-notifications and just use the ones from unity-api?!09:09
CimiMacSlow, when I tap on a wifi access point, notification should appear09:09
MacSlowCimi, and you trigger it and it does not appear.... or you don't know how to trigger it?09:10
CimiMacSlow, notificaton does not appear09:10
CimiMacSlow, which bits do I need?09:10
MacSlowCimi, can I see the branch/code?09:10
CimiMacSlow, yup09:11
Cimilp:~unity-team/ubuntu-system-settings/wizard.wifi09:11
CimiMacSlow, wizard/qml/Pages/20-wifi.qml09:11
MacSlowtsdgeos, with lp:~macslow/unity-notifications/modal-snap-decisions and lp:~macslow/unity8/modal-snap-decisions it does and the test passes... it's/jenkins just missing the unity-notification bits... which are delayed because of the new requirement to be all in unity-api now... which I was stupid enough to agree with... not knowing what's involved... teaches me to say "yes" in the future :/09:12
MacSlowCimi, btw... you can't trigger notifications from qml09:13
tsdgeosMacSlow: ok, i see09:13
tsdgeosMacSlow: so basically it needs the pre-requisite, makes sense :)09:14
MacSlowtsdgeos, well *sigh*09:14
tsdgeosMacSlow: is it a double dependency?09:14
tsdgeosi.e. do both branches have to go in at the same time?09:14
MacSlowtsdgeos, it's a new dependecy that came in from the side after the MP :)09:15
tsdgeosor can the unity-notifications go in first and then the unity8?09:15
CimiMacSlow, but they appear if I run the wizard from within unity09:15
MacSlowtsdgeos, unity-notifications could/should go in first... but now there's the unity-api bit put even before that09:15
tsdgeosok09:15
tsdgeosMacSlow: can you maybe put the unity8 as "work in progress" until it's ready to decrease the "needs to be reviewed" branches a bit09:16
tsdgeos?09:16
MacSlowCimi, oh... you having your own model there... hm...09:16
MacSlowtsdgeos, done09:17
tsdgeostx :)09:17
tsdgeosmzanetti: is there any silo i can use so i can continue to do some work?09:17
mzanettiMacSlow: yes. you need to delete the enum definition from unity-notifications09:18
mzanettitsdgeos: in what sense?09:18
tsdgeosmzanetti: in the sense that i can compile unity8 :D09:18
MacSlowmzanetti, so after that's in place I have to jugle three branches just for notifications... and tow of them are on the api-team's side?!09:18
tsdgeosmzanetti: or maybe i just need the right-edge branch manually merged in my stuff09:19
tsdgeos?09:19
mzanettitsdgeos: still not exactly sure what you mean. but the right edge stuff is in silo1509:19
mzanettitsdgeos: /me tries to reproduce your issue09:19
tsdgeosmzanetti: well i have http://paste.ubuntu.com/7193392/09:19
mzanettiah, there it is :D09:19
tsdgeosmzanetti: just dist-upgrade and see the pain09:19
tsdgeosi'm wondering what to do to make the pain go away09:20
mzanettitsdgeos: you need libunity-api-dev from silo 1509:20
MacSlowCimi, I just need to wrap my head around this...09:20
mzanettitsdgeos: or copy Application*h from here into your /usr/include/unity/...09:20
mzanettihttps://code.launchpad.net/~mzanetti/unity-api/new-screenshot-and-focusing-api/+merge/19981009:20
* mzanetti isn't really sure why unity-api is realeased already09:21
tsdgeosheadache09:23
mzanettistupid me... those are the ones that _are_ already released09:23
mzanettiso yes, you need to unity8's right-edge-2 branch merged into yours09:24
tsdgeosok09:24
tsdgeoslet's see if that helps09:24
MacSlowCimi, so you using the backend in your wizard... but where's the frontend?09:24
CimiMacSlow, frontend?09:25
MacSlowCimi, unity8 displays them because it has the frontend/listview displaying what's in the model09:25
MacSlowCimi, that's probably why you only see the notifications if you're running the wizard from unity809:25
MacSlowCimi, backend (unity-notifiations... the model... Notifications{...}) frontend (the ListView in unity8)09:26
MacSlowCimi, see http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/unity8/trunk/view/head:/qml/Notifications/Notifications.qml09:27
MacSlowCimi, that's the frontend doing the display/rendering of the notifications in the queue (the model)09:28
CimiMacSlow, I have this no?09:28
MacSlowCimi, I've to look again at thw wirzard code... one sec09:28
tsdgeosmzanetti: ok, it runs now, get lots of "Need to use QMirServerApplication" though09:29
Cimihttp://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/ubuntu-system-settings/wizard.wifi/view/head:/wizard/qml/Pages/20-wifi.qml09:29
CimiMacSlow, line 5209:29
mzanettitsdgeos: hmm... you running on the phone?09:29
tsdgeosnope09:29
mzanettitsdgeos: haven't seen this warning before09:29
tsdgeosand the thing crashes now :/09:30
mzanettimeh09:30
tsdgeosthis is all very confusing09:30
* mzanetti tries09:30
mzanettiyeah it is.09:31
MacSlowCimi, sorry... that's ok09:31
MacSlowCimi, btw... any reason you didn't move the states over from Shell.qml too?09:32
mzanettitsdgeos: even worse. I can't link it here for some undefined  stuff in QQml09:32
MacSlowCimi, is the wizard not meant to adapt to rotation?09:32
CimiMacSlow, nope09:33
CimiMacSlow, wizard is for phone I think09:33
MacSlowCimi, ok09:33
tsdgeoswhat is this?¿?¿ http://paste.ubuntu.com/7193522/09:33
CimiMacSlow, but i can copy the states as well09:33
CimiMacSlow, in case we want it on the tablet09:33
CimiMacSlow, first I want the notification to appear :D09:34
MacSlowCimi, well they are meant to keeping stuff tidy in landscape-mode on thetablet09:34
MacSlowCimi, sure... :)09:34
MacSlowCimi, I need to run the code myself... just looking over it I can't see any issue atm09:34
CimiMacSlow, good luck :D09:35
CimiMacSlow, if you want to run it on the phone, takes time09:36
MacSlowCimi, well I don't know how else I could help...09:36
MacSlowCimi, I'm trying...09:36
CimiMacSlow, I thought a quick look was enough to spot issues09:36
CimiMacSlow, I can send you a package09:36
MacSlowCimi, certainly not09:37
MacSlowCimi, ehm... move the Notifications{} at the end... or set it z-order to be higher than every other item09:38
MacSlowCimi, maybe it's just that it's covered by some other element/item09:39
MacSlowCimi, that's the only other thing I can think of atm09:39
MacSlowCimi, I think that atm Notifications is fully coverd by "content" which is also anchors.fill parent and comes _after_ Notifications {}09:40
CimiMacSlow, ok09:41
CimiMacSlow, sounds likely09:41
MacSlowCimi, just make sure Notifications is _after_ Item with id "content"09:42
MacSlowCimi, that should be enough09:42
CimiMacSlow, also, adding import "../Notifications" should help :D09:46
MacSlowCimi, oh... so you didn't get an error before?09:47
Cimiweirdly enough09:47
CimiMacSlow, also missing inputfilterarea :'(09:48
CimiMacSlow, might do it by hand maybe09:48
MacSlowCimi, I did see that in your code09:48
MacSlowCimi, or do you mean the import for this?09:49
CimiMacSlow, I cannot import it09:51
CimiI don't think I think09:51
Cimilet's see09:51
MacSlowCimi, skip it for the moment and at least check if you can see the notifications showing up09:51
MacSlowCimi, one step at a time09:51
CimiMacSlow, nope09:52
CimiMacSlow, not showing up09:52
mzanettitsdgeos: seems everything that only links QQuick fails for not linking QQml any more. did you have that issue too?09:52
tsdgeosmzanetti: nope09:52
Saviqmzanetti, migrated!09:53
mzanetti?09:53
Saviqmzanetti, right edge is done09:53
mzanettiah09:54
mzanetti\o/09:54
mzanetti*\o/*09:54
SaviqDONE09:54
Saviqnow, tablet right edge ;P09:54
mzanettiyeah...09:54
mzanettiwell, now I see how to get the surfaces properly09:54
didrocksimage kicked with it :)09:55
mzanettiand get away with that screenshotting stuff09:55
Cimiyay!09:55
Cimimzanetti, amazing work with the right edge09:55
Cimimzanetti, so smooth09:55
mzanettiCimi: thanks09:55
mzanetti:)09:55
Saviqdidrocks, 3 Qs after this fight, yesterday cyphermox asked me to rebuild the whole silo and retest, is that common practice? fwiw, no "extra" commits would get merged if they were not in the silo, right?09:57
tsdgeosok builds now09:57
tsdgeosstill doesn't run :/09:57
tsdgeoswell, runs and immediately shutsdown09:57
didrocksSaviq: yeah, no extra commits would get merged. I'm unsure why he asked you to rebuild everything, he didn't tell you why?09:57
* mzanetti still can't build for the linker issues09:58
Saviqdidrocks, I think he thought any new commits would get merged (there weren't any), but also he uploaded a seed change10:00
* MacSlow tries to build wizard.wifi10:00
Saviqdidrocks, 2: suddenly the build job complained about changelogs having trusty instead of UNRELEASED in bumps, where they built from the same branches before?10:01
didrocksSaviq: hum, I'm puzzled and not sure what this was all about10:01
didrocks(on 1)10:01
Saviqdidrocks, I think it was just "to be safe", this was a big landing after all10:02
didrocksSaviq: do you have links to the job?10:02
Saviqdidrocks, https://ci-train.ubuntu.com//job/landing-015-1-build/build?delay=0sec see the three failed ones10:02
tsdgeosmzanetti: it crashes in v4 here on run :S10:02
mzanettitsdgeos: well... it desn't even link it here10:03
tsdgeosi'm not sure what i prefer more :D10:03
mzanettitsdgeos: http://paste.ubuntu.com/719361710:03
didrocksSaviq: argh, I would need the "debug" version of it10:03
didrocksyou didn't run with debug, right?10:03
Saviqdidrocks, no10:03
didrocksso that I can see the resulting changelog10:03
tsdgeosthat's really weird10:03
Saviqdidrocks, I *think* the difference could be that that was a full run with ignore_step10:03
didrockslet me look at the branch10:03
didrocksnot that I think of10:04
Saviqdidrocks, and the others were direct rebuilds of particular packages10:04
tsdgeosSaviq: valgrind points to unity-notif http://paste.ubuntu.com/7193620/10:04
tsdgeosMacSlow: ↑ any idea?10:04
Saviqhuh10:04
didrocksSaviq: yeah, so that's intended10:04
didrocksbhttps://code.launchpad.net/~rsalveti/powerd/drop_support_sf/+merge/21334010:04
didrockshttps://code.launchpad.net/~rsalveti/powerd/drop_support_sf/+merge/21334010:04
didrockssee the change10:04
didrocksit touches debian/changelog10:04
MacSlowtsdgeos, no10:04
Saviqdidrocks, sure, I understand10:04
didrocksbut it's "released"10:04
* tsdgeos digs more10:05
didrocksso what cu2d would do without this check is:10:05
didrockscreate an additional entry on top of it10:05
MacSlowtsdgeos, never seen any issue like that10:05
didrockswith only: "  *"10:05
didrocksas there was nothing to put in10:05
mzanettigreyback: its *\o/* time10:06
didrocksrsalveti: FYI, when you change the changelog yourself and not backport a change from distro, you need to keep it UNRELEASED. (otherwise, it's leading to an empty changelog and this is now safeguarded due to complains from the release time)10:06
didrocksSaviq: so your question is "why now" :p10:06
Saviqdidrocks, yes10:07
didrocksSaviq: basically, the release team complained again a lot on Monday10:07
didrocks(another upload with "* " and nothing)10:07
didrocksso I added the check and deployed yesterday10:07
greybackmzanetti: wooo!10:07
tsdgeosmzanetti: shall i be getting all these warnings? http://paste.ubuntu.com/7193638/10:07
Saviqdidrocks, right, understood :)10:07
didrocksSaviq: the error messsage helped to understand the issue?10:07
didrocksSaviq: again, I'm happy for any rephrasing :p10:07
Saviqdidrocks, sure, I fixed it straight away10:07
didrocksgreat ;)10:07
Saviqdidrocks, just was surprised that it broke suddenly10:07
mzanettitsdgeos: hmm... don't think so10:08
Saviqdidrocks, but, it'd be nice if those sanity checks were ran asap10:08
didrocksyeah ;)10:08
didrocksSaviq: not possible before generating the finale changelog10:08
didrocksunfortunately10:08
didrockswhich is after the chroot10:08
mzanettitsdgeos: there *must* be something wrong with Qqml10:08
mzanettitsdgeos: now I have this: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/bin/qmlplugindump: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Quick.so.5: undefined symbol: _ZN3QV47Managed4callEPS0_PNS_8CallDataE10:09
tsdgeosmzanetti: brrr10:09
Saviqdidrocks, especially with the move to prodstack... it was an hour of failing packages10:09
tsdgeosmzanetti: are you using any ppa or something?10:09
tsdgeosmaybe the old 52 beta ppa?10:09
didrocksSaviq: yeah, I continue pushing on that…10:09
tsdgeosor some silo that may be playing with you10:09
didrocksand ev as well10:09
Saviqdidrocks, maybe you could upload one by one?10:09
mzanettihmm... I dropped the ppa. but maybe still packages around... let me check10:09
didrocksSaviq: I did that before10:09
didrocksSaviq: until yesterday10:09
didrocksand got complains to upload only parts10:10
Saviqdidrocks, again, thought that something changed...10:10
didrocksand that was confusing10:10
mzanettiis there an apt-command to list all the packages on the system that cannot be found in a ppa?10:10
didrocksso now, I'm doing once they are all generated10:10
Saviqdidrocks, well, ok "by design" :|10:10
didrockswhich was ok, before prodstack10:10
didrocksSaviq: by redesign on complains yeah :p10:10
Saviqmzanetti, "cannot"?10:10
mzanettiyeah10:10
mzanettilike, if I still have packages installed from a ppa that's not enabled any more10:10
MacSlowcrap... it need to reflash my phone...10:10
didrocksSaviq: actually10:11
didrocksSaviq: let me check the code and maybe give you a trick :p10:11
didrocksone sec10:11
Saviqmzanetti, aptitude should show you packages that are "deprecated" or "local"10:12
didrocksSaviq: no, no easy trick, I protect that as well10:12
Saviqdidrocks, so, question no. 310:13
didrocksyep :)10:13
Saviqdidrocks, say you put libfoo-dev and bar (Depends: libfoo-dev) in a silo10:14
MacSlowCimi, I could compile the wizard.wifi on my desktop... how  do I run it?10:14
Saviqdidrocks, libfoo gets migrated, but bar is stuck in proposed10:14
CimiMacSlow, on the desktop?10:14
CimiMacSlow, debuild10:15
CimiMacSlow, wizard/test.sh10:15
didrocksyeah10:15
MacSlowCimi, it'll take some time before I can use it on my phone... flashing it as it was still using a defunct 004 silo-ppa10:15
Saviqdidrocks, now you dist-upgrade, get a new libfoo-dev, but can't build bar, because the dep moved10:15
didrocksSaviq: you mean, can't build old bar?10:15
Saviqdidrocks, yes10:15
didrocksso, it's an API breakage?10:15
Saviqdidrocks, 'cause "new" bar is only in the silo10:15
Saviqdidrocks, yes10:15
didrocksyou need to breaks: older-version of foo10:16
didrocksor use that virtual package trick10:16
Saviqthat we had10:16
Saviqbut libfoo still moves10:16
Saviqto release pocket10:16
didrocksit's an issue in britney then10:16
Saviqas nothing prevents it from going there10:16
didrockshum10:16
didrocksfoo breaks old bar?10:16
Saviqdidrocks, yeah, that'd probably work10:17
didrocksso new foo shouldn't migrate without old bar10:17
didrocksSaviq: I think an intermediate step would be to have britney to undestand the grouping from CI Train10:17
Saviqmhm10:17
didrocksbut the idea was rejected by the release team who don't want to special case for it10:17
tsdgeosmzanetti: do you know why it seems that we're not using unity8's application manager and instead we're using the unity-mir one when running on the desktop?10:20
Saviqdidrocks, could we maybe have ro access to branches in silos?10:20
mzanettitsdgeos: no. that shouldn't happen10:20
tsdgeosmzanetti: it is happening :D10:20
tsdgeosi'm getting lots of10:20
tsdgeosNeed to use QMirServerApplication10:20
tsdgeosand10:20
didrocksSaviq: that's part of what I asked. I even don't have it anymore since we moved to prodstack10:21
mzanettiyeah... you shouldn't even have unity-mir installed on your machine...10:21
tsdgeosmzanetti: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7193672/10:21
mzanettitsdgeos: instead unity-fake-env should provide Unity.Application10:21
didrocksSaviq: so yeah, the CI team will develop a charm to proxy those through apache10:21
didrocksSaviq: it was a requirement for the move, but then, I got to dropped it :(10:21
Cimithis osk works 0 times out of 410:22
mzanettitsdgeos: so... I just removed *all* of my Qt5 packages and then did a ./build -s and ./build -c10:22
mzanettitsdgeos: now it starts, but yes, seems to use unity-mir here too10:22
tsdgeosmzanetti: i can't remove unity-mir, we just need to make sure the application thing we use10:23
tsdgeosis the local one10:23
tsdgeosthat used to work10:23
didrocksSaviq: for a temporary access, I can rsync to lillypilly though10:23
didrocksSaviq: I think I'll just cronify that10:23
tsdgeosso it broke somewhere either with your or somebody elses patches10:23
didrockswould work for you?10:23
tsdgeosmzanetti: but good we're now on the same stage though ::)10:23
mzanettitsdgeos: I just removed libunity-mir1 and now it works again fine with the fake app man10:23
MacSlowCimi, so that's from trying to run wizard/test.sh on my desktop ... http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/719368010:23
* tsdgeos grabs some bubly drink10:23
MacSlowCimi, what maliit-related package am I missing?10:24
tsdgeosmzanetti: Saviq says he knows what's the problem10:24
mzanettiyeah... we're pulling libunity-mir now in ./build10:25
CimiMacSlow, I never had this error10:25
mzanettitsdgeos: we didn't before.10:25
Saviqmzanetti, we did, it's a build-dep10:25
Saviqmzanetti, the difference is10:25
Saviqmzanetti, it was installing the plugin in /usr/lib/.../qt5/imports before10:25
mzanettiahhh10:25
mzanettiright10:25
Saviq/Unity-Mir10:25
mzanetti(still, I don't think unity-mir is a build dep)10:26
mzanettior well, should be10:26
Saviqmzanetti, sure, it probably shouldn't be10:26
Saviqmzanetti, or at least the plugin should be split out of libunity-mir110:27
didrocksSaviq: here we go: http://people.canonical.com/~didrocks/citrain/silos/10:27
didrocksSaviq: I rsync every 10 minutes10:27
mzanettiright10:27
mzanettitsdgeos: so, you can use run -f for now10:28
mzanettior remove libunity-mir1 yourself10:28
tsdgeosokidoki10:28
didrocksSaviq: so, for instance http://people.canonical.com/~didrocks/citrain/silos/landing-002/mir/ is the mir branch generated by latest build10:28
Saviqdidrocks, mhm10:30
MacSlowCimi, well then... now trying to build it on the phone... hopefully I've more luck there10:30
Saviqmzanetti, so, I think stripping all unity-mir from our debian/control will work10:34
mzanettiSaviq: hmm.. will that pull in unity-mir on the phone still?10:35
didrocksSaviq: what was this "mhm"? :)10:35
mzanettiSaviq: actually... how long still until we get some Mir running on desktop?10:36
mzanettiSaviq: actually I think we're on the right track from a long-term pov10:36
mzanettiso I'm thinking if we instead should just finetune the -f switch10:36
mzanettifor using the fake stuff10:36
greybackmzanetti: unity8+mir works on desktop, bregma has a PPA enabling it10:38
mzanettiso... wouldn't it make sense to determine the current display server and load Unity.Application depending on that?10:38
mzanettibasically replace the SF stuff with X11 stuff :D10:38
Saviqmzanetti, yeah, exactly what we discussed10:40
Saviqmzanetti, with tsdgeos here10:41
Saviqmzanetti, he'll look into it10:41
mzanettinice10:41
Saviqmzanetti, ultimately we should remove the direct dep on unity-mir, too, but let's not, right now10:41
mzanetti+110:42
MacSlowCimi, I can't build it... http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/719373610:43
MacSlowCimi, is there a build-dependency missing perhaps?10:44
CimiMacSlow, try installing unity-api-dev10:44
CimiMacSlow, I think I added it though :-\10:44
MacSlowCimi, probably not... this is on a fresh install on the phone and it wasn't listed by the "missing build-dependencies" earlier10:45
Saviqdidrocks, oh btw, re: new commits in branches, maybe we should check (on publish?) if there are new commits, and require an override if there are?10:45
SaviqMacSlow, that is libunity-api-dev missing indeed10:45
didrocksSaviq: I have a lot of requests, can't commit do to it, but still open a bug and we'll see :)10:45
didrocksSaviq: however, the number doesn't mean anything10:46
Saviqdidrocks, yeah, I'm just asking10:46
didrocksSaviq: someone can --overwrite10:46
didrocksnumbers matches10:46
didrocksnot content10:46
MacSlowSaviq, yeah... had it on my desktop but not ont the freshly flashed N410:46
Saviqdidrocks, yeah, I mean if "merge" doesn't do nothing10:46

Saviqneed to focus on scopes10:46

Saviqdidrocks, got it10:47
Saviqdidrocks, oh, and "mhm" is probably "sad, but ack" usually ;)10:47

didrocksso no reason to be sad :p10:48

Saviqdidrocks, other times it's just "ack" :)10:48

didrocksgreyback: sourceforge! :)10:54
greybackdidrocks: shows you the last time he disconnected :P10:54
dpm_mhr3, pstolowski or thostr_, we're discussing integration of the unity-scopes-tool in Qt Creator, and one of the questions that came up was: is there a specific requirement for the name of the scope's ini file, or does it only need to be in a particular location?10:54
didrocksgreyback: ahah10:54
CimiMacSlow, think I didn't10:56
dpm_mhr3, pstolowski or thostr_, and another question, if scopes are not yet installed via .clicks, how and where are they currently installed?10:58
mhr3dpm_, right now there are specific requirements on the name, but i believe that is going to change.. marcustomlinson, michi ^?10:58
dpm_mhr3, do you happen to know those requirements, or are the guys you pinged the persons to ask?11:00
CimiMacSlow, so can you explain me what triggers the notifications on screen?11:00
dpm_hey zbenjamin11:00
zbenjaminhey11:00
MacSlowCimi, the moment a notification lands in the visible-queue in the backend it'll show up in the notificaiton ListView in the frontend11:01
CimiMacSlow, so why it's not taken by the wizard?11:02
MacSlowCimi, I don't know... that's why I'm spending all my time atm to get it compiled and running o nthe phone so I can take a look and help out11:02
Cimi:D have a coffee11:03
CimiMacSlow, I disabled notifiations from unity811:08
Cimimight make it easier to debug11:08
CimiMacSlow, like commenting out the line of notification backend from /usr/share/unity8/Shell.qml11:09
Cimiand running the wiazrd then11:09
Cimifrom the phone11:10
MacSlowCimi, that's from trying to run wizard/test.sh on the N4 http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/719382611:17

Cimiif only the keyboard was working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11:17
MacSlowCimi, I did what you told me11:17
Cimikeyboard keeps being in the middle of the screen11:18
Cimiwho has a fix for that11:18
CimiI rebooted phone like 10 times11:18
CimiMacSlow, on the phone you run with another command line11:18
MacSlowCimi, which is?11:19
CimiMacSlow, if you want to test it at boot11:19
Cimiyou test it with the upstart file11:19
Cimi/wizard/ubuntu-system-settings-wizard.conf11:20
Cimithat you put in11:20
Cimi/usr/share/upstart/sessions/11:20
CimiMacSlow, this will run at boot as long as you don't have11:20
Cimi/home/phablet/.config/ubuntu-system-settings/wizard-has-run11:21
Cimiso remove that pls11:21
MacSlowCimi, that's recreated everytime the wizard ran I assume11:21
Cimiif you want to run it within unity, you can, but I think you also want to stop unity from notifying11:21
CimiMacSlow, it is11:21
MacSlowCimi, got it11:21
CimiMacSlow, or you can edit the upstart file not to check for that file11:21
MacSlowCimi, ok... I'll try all that after lunch11:24
=== MacSlow is now known as MacSlow|lunch
mhr3dpm_, ok, we were talking about it11:28
mhr3dpm_, apparently it isn't going to change11:29
mhr3dpm_, so at this very moment, a scope foo has to install a directory foo, and inside there has to be foo.ini and libfoo.so11:30
dpm_zbenjamin, ^11:30
mhr3and foo should really be the fully qualified name11:31
mhr3like com.canonical.scope.foo11:31
Cimitsdgeos, how did you restart the kbd?11:31
tsdgeosCimi: /sbin/restart maliit-server11:31
Cimitsdgeos, hah11:32

mhr3marcustomlinson, pls double check ^11:33
tsdgeosmzanetti: https://code.launchpad.net/~aacid/unity8/application_manager_install_fix/+merge/213815 can you confirm this works for you?11:33
* mzanetti tries11:34
dpm_thanks mhr3, so if we install a scope on the phone following this convention today, this should work already? Given that we don't have .click support for scopes yet, how would we deploy and run a scope to the phone/emulator from Qt Creator?11:34
marcustomlinsondpm_, mhr3: that is correct. "com.canonical.scope.foo.ini" will be identified as "com.canonical.scope.foo"11:35
dpm_can we just copy over the scope to a particular location and run it?11:35
dpm_marcustomlinson, so the .ini file should be a fully qualified name too?11:35
dpm_and is it a requirement to have .scope. as part of this name, or just the .foo part would be enough?11:36
mzanettitsdgeos: it works fine on desktop, trying on phone now11:37
marcustomlinsondpm_: yes the ini file must be fully qualified11:37
tsdgeosmzanetti: ideally you make a package and install it11:37
tsdgeosfor the phone and proper testing11:37
mhr3dpm_, and no there doesn't have to be .scope11:39
mhr3in the name11:40
dpm_ok, cool11:40
dpm_and regarding the installation?11:40
mhr3i'd say let's wait till scopes support .clicks, it would be too messy right now11:40
dpm_mhr3, do we have a timeline for .click support?11:41
mhr3thostr_, ^?11:41
thostr_dpm: end of April11:41
dpm_ok, then in that case we should start with desktop-only integration until .click scope support lands. That is, scopes will not be installable on the phone from Qt Creator, but they should be runnable on the desktop via unity-scopes-tool. Correct thostr_, mhr3?11:43
mhr3dpm_, sounds good to me11:45
mhr3dpm_, so you'll be able to run a scope, but not install it for now11:46
dpm_exactly11:46

mzanettitsdgeos: it should already print something if it fails to load the image15:21
tsdgeoshttp://paste.ubuntu.com/7194728/15:22
mzanettiyeah. also the previous paste shows errors loading the images for 4 apps15:22
mzanettitsdgeos: ApplicationManager::buildListOfApplication() is the place where they are hardcoded15:25
mzanettiin the same dir15:25
tsdgeosok15:26
tsdgeosahh15:29
tsdgeosi know what's wrong15:29
tsdgeosmzanetti: you expect GRID_UNIT_PX to be defined15:29
mzanettiright... setting it do 8 doesn't really help in finding that :D15:30
tsdgeoswhich is not necessarily true15:30
MacSlowCimi, so... r682 crashes too15:30
MacSlowCimi, trying r681 now15:30
mzanettitsdgeos: good catch. thanks a lot. Shall I fix it in my other fixes branch?15:30
CimiMacSlow, it's not a change!15:30
CimiMacSlow, don't waste time15:30
CimiMacSlow, might be something else I have no clue about15:31
Saviqbregma, re: apps being shell wrappers around qmlscene, did you try with exec qmlscene? otherwise the pid number reported by upstart is not the one the app will actually connect from15:31
tsdgeosmzanetti: sure fix it there15:31
mzanettiack15:32
tsdgeosmzanetti: i've confirmed that hardocding a 8 there for me works, so i guess you can fallback to 8 if that is actually the real fallback that the uitk does15:32
mzanettiyep, 8 is the one15:32
MacSlowCimi, actually... r682 crashing I can skip r681 indeed... had the changelog not in mind15:32
Saviqgreyback, can you comment against https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8-desktop-session/+bug/1300911/comments/2 ?15:33
CimiMacSlow, still haven't changed anything here15:33
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1300911 in unity8-desktop-session (Ubuntu) "Unity 8 Desktop Preview session can not launch apps wrapped in a shell script" [Medium,Triaged]15:33
MacSlowCimi, trying r680 now15:33
Cimimight be something else15:33
Cimimaybe mister Saviq has ideas15:33
Saviqr680 of what/15:33
Saviq?15:33
MacSlowCimi, I didn't remember there was just the dependency touched in one fo the commits15:33
Cimiwho has ideas on this crash? http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/7194536/15:33
CimiSaviq, ^15:33
CimiSaviq, mirco is getting this error while running the wizard as user15:34
Cimiwith MIR_SOCKET=/run/user/32011/mir_socket system-settings-wizard --desktop_file_hint=/usr/share/applications/webbrowser-app.desktop15:34
SaviqCimi, I saw it somewhere before...15:34
greybackSaviq: yes that makes sense15:34
MacSlowand I didn't get that before lunc with an earlier version... which I'm currently trying again15:34
Cimiin the meanwhile I broke my phone15:35
Saviqgreyback, would be weird, though, if only desktop exhibited that issue, would it...15:37
* Cimi reflashes15:37
greybackSaviq: it certainly would15:39
greybackSaviq: but I don't think/know clicks work on desktop, do they?15:39
Saviqgreyback, yeah, that's why I asked for an example from bregma15:40
mzanettitsdgeos: I'm a bit puzzled: this fixes it: http://paste.ubuntu.com/719481315:44
mzanettitsdgeos: however the hideDash() test does exactly the same and that one passes15:44
tsdgeosaha15:44
mzanettialso, genericScopeView.scope should be === scopes.get(2) according to the test setup15:45
mzanettitsdgeos: ah... might the ordering and a missing init/cleanup15:45
tsdgeosit may15:46
MacSlowCimi, what is ubuntu-system-settings made of... it taking longer to compile than unity8?15:46
Cimiiron15:46
MacSlowCimi, rahter lead I'd say ;)15:47
mzanettitsdgeos: pushed all fixes to this one. https://code.launchpad.net/~mzanetti/unity8/drop-tst_stage/+merge/21385915:47
mzanettiand updated the commit message15:49
tsdgeosmzanetti: maybe you can even add mine in so we get a fully passing qmluitests?15:49
mzanettitsdgeos: ack15:49
tsdgeosi removed the approved from the incorrect branch15:51
tsdgeosE_TOO_MAY_TABS_IN_LAUNCHPAD15:51
tsdgeosmzanetti: wait i didn't mean that one :D15:52
mzanettitsdgeos: all merged. rejected the old one15:52
tsdgeosi meant the one of the tryCompare15:52
mzanettiwaaaa15:52
mzanetti:D15:52
mzanettiofc. sorry :/15:52
mzanettiE_TOO_MANY_TABS_IN_LAUNCHPAT15:52
mzanettiD15:52
mterrySaviq, so this is interesting (re: the silo 002 troubles).  The missing symbol is from Mir's libmirplatformgraphics.so.  It demangles to boost::program_options::value_semantic_codecvt_helper<char>.  I think it's just Mir not adding ${Boost_LIBRARIES} to link targets.   I'm going to test rebuild Mir15:53
Saviqmterry, oh15:54
Saviqmterry, something must've change in devel then15:54
mzanettitsdgeos: I can't find that branch any more15:56
tsdgeosah15:56
tsdgeosi killed it15:56
tsdgeosno need to merge, just fix it manually :D15:56
mzanettiack15:57
MacSlowCimi, Saviq: I'm giving up... I've even tried the version from this morning and still get that crash... I've wasted a full day now on this without getting anywhere... I'm switching back now to trying to get my stuff through Jenkins & Co.15:58
CimiMacSlow, I know it sucks, it's two days I'm wasting here15:59
dandraderI'm running unity8 manually and all seems fine15:59
dandraderbut the dash is completely empty15:59
dandraderno scope shows up15:59
MacSlowCimi, but at least you see something happening15:59
dandraderwhat am I missing?15:59
tsdgeosdandrader: start the proxy-scope15:59
CimiMacSlow, I didn't on monday :P15:59
mzanettitsdgeos: ok. all pushed15:59
CimiMacSlow, eventually I stopped having that error15:59
tsdgeosdandrader: start scope-registry16:00
dandradertsdgeos, ok will try that16:00
MacSlowCimi, well that's no way for me to work16:00
CimiMacSlow, I was having that error because I was not runnit it with phablet user16:00
tsdgeosdandrader: and restart unity8 probably16:00
CimiMacSlow, which is not your case16:00
dandradertsdgeos, btw, will a pre-new-scopes unity8 work on the lastest image?16:00
tsdgeosdandrader: that on the destkop right?16:00
CimiMacSlow, I have no idea what that error means16:00
tsdgeosdandrader: don't think so16:00
dandradertsdgeos, no, that's the "qt as mir compositor" branches16:00
MacSlowCimi, neither do I16:00
CimiMacSlow, it comes from some google stuff16:00
tsdgeosdandrader: oh16:00
tsdgeosdandrader: then no, we killed old-scopes i think16:01
dandradertsdgeos, ok, so I do have to rebase my stuff on top of latest unity8 in order to get dash back I think16:01
tsdgeosyep16:01
dandradertsdgeos, ok, thanks!16:01
Saviqmzanetti, please assign yourself to bug #1273781 - it results from the "we're not killing the process"16:01
ubot5bug 1273781 in unity-mir (Ubuntu) "If you open the accounts page in the settings app and close it you can't reopen it" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/127378116:01
MacSlowCimi, I wouldn't mind to keep digging deeper... if I didn't have 5 other things waiting16:01
mzanettiSaviq: regarding that, seems it goes successfully away in unity-mir's ApplicationManager.16:02
Saviqmzanetti, yeah, the app goes away, but doesn't get SIGTERM or SIGKILL16:03
mzanettiyeah...16:03
Saviqmzanetti, so that's what we need to do, at least while we say --desktop-file-hint is supported16:03
MacSlowCimi, what image are you running on your phone?16:08
MacSlowCimi, I've r274 running on my N416:09
bregmaSaviq, using exec does the trick nicely ... this tidbit needs to go upstream to app developers16:09
bregmanow if I could get the terminal app working and someone ported vim to QML I could use Unity8 on the desktop for all my development needs16:10
=== alan_g|tea is now known as alan_g
dpm_bregma, what's not working for you in the terminal app? I've not been using it for a while, but the major issue we had was the Enter key not working and that got fixed a while ago. Any other bugs that make it unusable?16:25
=== dandrader is now known as dandrader|lunch
bregmadpm_, it isn't on the list of hard-coded supported apps, so I'd need to hack some other app's desktop file to get it to run16:29
bregmalike the dialler-app, that doesn't run well on the desktop either so I can get rid of it16:30
dpm_bregma, what's that list of hard-coded apps?16:30
bregmadpm_, http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntuone-hackers/unity-scope-click/trunk/view/head:/scope/click/interface.cpp#L5316:31
bregmafor now16:32
dpm_bregma, oh, what does exactly that list do and where did it come from? I'm missing things like calendar there16:32
dpm_popey, ^16:33
popeyi had no idea that existed16:34
CimiMacSlow, crashes for me too16:35
Cimiwith updated image16:35
bregmadpm_, popey, it just showed up a few days ago, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8-desktop-session/+bug/130092516:35

Cimiwho knows16:35
MacSlowCimi, I was on... ehm... r269 I think16:35
MacSlowCimi, but not really sure16:36
CimiSaviq, why we have those crashes with libprotobuf?16:36
CimiSaviq, what is using it?16:36
popeydpm_: i dont think we intend to put every app on that list - pmcgowan is driving that list I believe.16:37
dpm_bregma, popey, oh, so that only affects unity 8 running on the desktop, right?16:37

mterrySaviq, https://code.launchpad.net/~mterry/mir/missing-links/+merge/213906 is a start.  I no longer crash due to missing symbols.  Something else isn't right yet.  But that's a good branch we'll want19:00
greybackmterry: don't forget commit message19:01
mterrygreyback, gah.  I resubmitted it, and that loses the commit message19:02
mterrygreyback, thanks19:02
greybacknp19:02
greybackmterry: the linker flag "-Wl,--no-undefined" wouldn't be any use?19:03
mterrygreyback, ah maybe.  I am so packaging focused, I didn't think about it19:04
mterrydpkg-shlibs was the obvious stop point for me  :)19:04
mterrygreyback, let me test then I can modify my branch maybe19:04
greybackmterry: was just a suggestion anyway, while I guess it would help, I'm not certain either19:05
greybackwell it would maybe help prevent this problem happening again19:06
mterrygreyback, we already use it apparently.  So I guess not19:06
greybackmterry: oh well19:06
dandraderI'm getting an empty dash and this on the console: "ERROR! Caught unity::scopes::TimeoutException: Request timed out after 300 milliseconds" where do I start debugging this? I'm totally ignorant on the scopes stuff19:21
dandradermterry, https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/130104019:22
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1301040 in Mir "mirplatformgraphics does not have boost program options in its symbol table" [High,In progress]19:22
dandradermterry, and https://code.launchpad.net/~kdub/mir/fix-1301040/+merge/21373919:22
kdubdandrader, i'm still trying to confirm that fixes it, I don't have a stack all built19:23
greybackdandrader: are there some scope services that are not running?19:23
greybackdandrader: "initctl list" and see if anything obvious not running19:23
mterrydandrader, ah interesting.  I looked, but didn't see other merges with obvious names19:24
mterrykdub, my branch should I think...19:24
dandradergreyback, did "start scope-registry" as  albert suggested. have these running http://paste.ubuntu.com/7195655/19:24
dandraderkdub, as I commented. doens't solve my problem19:25
dandraderalthough it helps a bit19:25
greybackdandrader: ok, if you give me 10 minutes, I'll have a freshly flashed tablet that I can compare with19:25
kdubmterry, if your branch works, then we can go with that, i'm just guessing at what the problem is until I can build the world19:28
mterrykdub, it works enough not to crash unity8 due to missing symbols.  That's as far as I tested19:29
mterrykdub, I didn't realize you were working in same problem space, sorry19:29
kdubeh, i'm working slowly because I have to build a unity stack against mir/devel. if that fixes the problem, I don't mind going with that branch :)19:30
