jeffrey_fdepper: I worry more about closed source OS's like windows and apple, where you have no idea what happens under the covers.  It has been proven that Apple can reach into your device an remove data/files if THEY, for what ever reason, decide that you are no longer allowed to have that data.....If they can reach in an remove that, they can certainly do more......02:19

sam_ok I got a question. I need to start skype through terminal I start it but then when I close terminal skype closes aswell :( how do I keep it open without having a terminal page open all the time?05:03
neo_I think that's because skype relies on the terminal to run the program05:03
neo_you kill the terminal, and it kills the subprocess - skype itself.05:03

dnulluhh look if youre gonna criticize me u can shut up couse im doing NOTHING wrong07:38
ikoniaI'm not criticizing you - I'm stating fact, you are being given things to do / asking for information and it's not coming back with the right information, there is nothing wrong with being new to linux, but it will limit your abilities to resolve issues, such as this one07:39

acesbatmanhello, I am having an issue with my install, ubuntu been having many issues, and so I ran fwts like suggested on some forums, and the report showed some failures in my ACPI, and DSDT.  Now, I just formatted and re-install Xubuntu to see if the newest LTS would resolve the issues, but I am not sure if it has.  I know when I boot up every time since I have started using Ubuntu, there is a K10 thermals unreliable message I get all the time on boot.11:57
bekksOr you have to write an udev rule granting access to the user.11:57
bngbekks: udev rule, I did that with partitions11:58
bngbekks: wouldn't you know how such a rule would look like?11:58
bekksbng: Similar to a rule for a partition ;)11:59

ZelgodThats understood. So the only option is whiping the ubuntu installation then using windows?12:06
cfhowlettacesbatman AND you're using a NON-recommended mobo which is known to be linux unfriendly.  *little details like that matter*12:06

ZelgodUbuntu is using the entire drive in lvm so i have a feeling id having to remove the ubuntu partition since i cannot resize the phsyical drive.12:08

acesbatmanI did not select anything, I built this for windows originally... I knew nothing about Linux before this, and when I went to Ubuntu, it worked ok at first, but just minor problems that quickly became a major problem, then when I updated graphics drivers to 331, is when all hell broke loose.12:16

TJ-hyperbrain: Depending on what you see, we can then suggest further steps21:51
hyperbrainok21:52
=== Netwolf_ is now known as Netwolf
hyperbraini've typed grep '/tmp' /etc/fstab nothing happens21:56
TJ-hyperbrain: empty response you mean?21:56
hyperbrainyes21:56
TJ-hyperbrain: That simply means that 'grep' (GNU Regular ExPression text search) didn't find a matching line, which tells us there isn't a persistent disk-based file-system assigned to the /tmp/ mount-point.21:57
=== baggar11_ is now known as baggar11
hyperbrainok21:58
hyperbrainwhat do i do next21:58
bnghi all, I am trying to use pci-stub, but I get permission denied:  sudo echo "1002 665c" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/pci-stub/new_id21:59
bngcan anyone help me please?21:59
TJ-hyperbrain: I'm trying to find a reference for the 13.10 default configuration for /tmp22:00
hyperbrainthank you so much22:00
davydehi guys i got a problem with cpu22:00
hyperbrainthks TJ22:00
davydethey are always on, like 60-80%  each on of 4 cores22:01
TJ-bng: "sudo" only applies to the "echo" not the following pipe. Instead, do "echo "1002 665c"  | sudo dd of=/sys/bus/pci/drivers/pci-stub/new_id"22:01
davydei used indicator-cpufreq but does nothing22:01
bngTJ that did cross my mind, will try, thank you!22:01
davydeubuntu gnome 12.0422:01
OerHeksdavyde, if indicator-cpufreq does nothing, how do you tell all 4 cores are used 60-80%?22:04
davydesystem-monitor22:05
TJ-hyperbrain: Trying to find a default install of 13.10 here to look at22:05
bekksdavyde: system monitor itself imposes a load of load actually. Better use top or htop.22:05
davydeand the fan always on, and the pc shutdown suddendly for warm22:05
OerHeks!lmsensors22:06
ubottuTo access CPU temperature sensors and detect fan speeds, install the lm-sensors package. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SensorInstallHowto for installation and usage instructions.22:06
OerHeksmight be an GPU-fan issue22:06
davydeit's an ATI radeon HD 450022:07
davydeshould i need catalyst?22:07
hyperbrainok I'm trying to find something too but as noob it is a bit hard to be sure  so whats the right thing.22:07
OerHeks!ati22:07
ubottuFor Ati/NVidia/Matrox video cards, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VideoDriverHowto22:07
TJ-hyperbrain: I don't have a default install of 13.10 here to check on, unfortunately. All my install have a file-system mounted at /tmp/ which is different to your apparent configuration. If your system doesn't have a mount-point for /tmp/ in "/etc/fstab" I'm struggling to understand why you're seeing a mount warning for "/tmp" since it is just a directory in the root file-system22:08
davydei search in amd support site for download proprietary driver for my card and they write support up to kernel 3.422:08
=== Senix__ is now known as Senix

davydeoook22:10
hyperbraindo you think if i reinstall it will sort the problem out?22:10
davydeso proprietary driver22:10
hyperbraincause all my files ar not in the system partition22:10
hyperbrainTJ this isn't a dual boot22:11
TJ-hyperbrain: Reinstall is a very drastic - that's a "Windows" approach - and generally unneeded on any Linux installation unless you've been changing things massively22:11
OerHeksdavyde, i was reading @ http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2119008 to find this ppa for precise https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/fglrx22:12
hyperbrainok good to learn that22:12
bngTJ-: the command seems to work, but I still cannot get my pci card assigned to qemu22:12
bngTJ-: it reports qemu: -device pci-assign,host=01:00.0: get_real_device: /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:01:00.0/config: Permission denied22:12
hyperbrainI still have access to shell so if i can find a fix it would be awesome22:12
TJ-hyperbrain: The default installation of Ubuntu has "/tmp" as just another directory of the root file-system, just like "/usr". The message you report should only occur when you've configured a separate file-system to be mounted at the location.22:13
TJ-hyperbrain: Does boot-up stall at that message or are you able to 'S'kip it and continue booting?22:13
TJ-bng: Looks like a permissions issue22:14
awesomess3xubuntu uses 873MB for its LiveUSB image. I think it should be more like 230MB. Why is it so big?22:14
=== Thor|Away is now known as Thorium220
bngsorry, my irc client froze :( have I maybe missed something, TJ-?22:15
TJ-hyperbrain: Does the PC also have network access, because if it does, you could pastebin the 'fstab' file so we can check, by doing "pastebinit /etc/fstab" and giving us the URL to the pastebin here22:15
hyperbrainTJ I haven't messed about with the partitions . what happend was one night i shutdown the system next day it gave this message22:15
TJ-bng: Looks like a permissions issue22:15
hyperbrainyes how do i get the pastebin url22:15
bngTJ-: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root      4096 Apr  6 12:58 config22:16
TJ-hyperbrain: pastebinit will display it in the terminal; you can copy it here so we can visit it22:16
hyperbrainok22:16
bngTJ-: I need to find a guide I guess, I should not run qemu as root, right?22:16
TJ-bng: As expected, but how about the qemu process?22:16
bngTJ-: in htop or so?22:17
TJ-bng: Are you working with libvirt-bin, or directly with qemu-system- ?22:17
bngTJ-: qemu directly22:17
TJ-bng: Then you'd need to ensure the group that qemu runs as, also has r/w permissions for that PCI config node22:18
bngTJ-: I haven't used libvirt-bin, does it work differently? sounds like a library to me22:18
TJ-bng: libvirt-bin is the package that provides  virsh and its supporting parts, and that virt-manager runs as a GUI for22:20
sbluenpaste.ubuntu.com/7214542/ can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong in trying to build the RA8152 Atheros ethernet driver?22:21

Grade_1i get the following error22:21
Grade_1Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.22:22
Grade_1whenever i try to login22:22
TJ-bng: also, which kernel version is running? You could be affected by the new CAP_COMPROMISE_KERNEL if the qemu process doesn't acquire that capability22:22
bngTJ-: hmm, I thought that qemu alone could be simpler - one command solution maybe22:22
Grade_1i could really use some help right now22:22
bngTJ-: 3.14.0-031400-lowlatency22:22
bngTJ-: I tried both qemu and my own compiled ~/qemu-2.0.0-rc1/x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64  but both give the same error22:23
TJ-bng: Does the error persist if qemu runs as root? I'd guess not22:24
bngTJ-: how would I find out the permissions for the process, since it closes isntantly?22:24
bngTJ-: should I try that as root?22:24
hyperbrainTJ: i get this "the program ' pastebinit' can be found in the following packages: *pastebinit Try: apt-get install <selected Package>22:25
sbluenit looks like ubuntu just isn't good at handling RA ethernet22:26
TJ-hyperbrain: OK, do "sudo apt-get install pastebinit" to install that program22:26
TJ-sbluen: The source-code you're trying to build is out-of-date, ask the provider for up-to-date sources22:26
restelenHello, i just tried installing ubuntu to my desktop but everytime in freezes on a black screen after i choose to install linux22:26
restelenwas just wandering if this had to be a hardware problem or had somthing todo with linux not recognizing my motherboards graphics card22:26
sbluenTJ-, I see22:27
thomedyi think i could get by with jus tbuilding a programmatic view mode22:28
Han_nibalHey22:28
thomedyat least then i could shortcut my work by not having to write a search module22:28
OerHeks!nomodeset22:29
ubottuA common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter22:29
bngTJ-: I tried is as root and it now it says: No IOMMU found.! I suppose kvm and kvm_intel are not all the modules I need22:29
TJ-sbluen: "compat-wireless" is now known as "backports", see http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Download/stable/22:29
OerHeksrestelen, it is an  installer option F622:29
sbluenI see22:30
TJ-bng: Does the host provide IOMMU?22:30
Han_nibali have a probleme with my graphic card, small resolution22:30
bngTJ-: the motherboard does support it, but I might need to turn it on somewhere I guess?22:30
Han_nibalwhen i install a nvidia driver, x won't start22:30
TJ-bng: Yes, first step is check the dmesg log, see if it mentions IOMMU or VT-d extensions22:31
TJ-bng see http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/How_to_assign_devices_with_VT-d_in_KVM22:31
bngTJ-: also, I did update some apparmor rule before, if that has anything to do with the permissions22:31
bngTJ-: you are right, it is not running22:32
TJ-bng: It would only affect things if the qemu process should otherwise have permissions, but as the node was root:root and qemu wasn't, you'd first need to change things so the qemu process's group was allowed r/w on the node22:32
nappyanyone here22:33
hyperbrainTj thanks for the help and effort but I got to go . family dutties . take care22:33
nappyi need a help of something22:33
nappyam new here22:33
bngTJ-: so would I add the qemu into the root group?22:34
caio_hi22:34
TJ-bng: It'd be better to assign a different group as owner of that node, a group the the qemu process's owner is a member of22:35
