Seven_Six_Twoso I'm getting an ssl error in firefox when I go to wiki.gnome.org03:09

qenghoSeven_Six_Two: It's safe to guess the admins are fixing the enormous TLS vulnerability, not that a browser is broken and no-one noticed.03:11
Seven_Six_TwoI don't know about ssl, so I wasn't sure if it is a bug or something I did. Please don't underestimate my own ability to break stuff.  ;)03:11

ikoniaFix it !07:52
ikoniaor provide a more grown up description of the problem07:52
pierre_"Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus ?" error after login !07:53
ikoniathat could be caused by any number of reasons and I'd hardly call it a "bug" until we know why it's failing07:53
lordievaderpierre_: That's bug 1304805, faced it this morning too.07:53
ubottubug 1304805 in qt4-x11 (Ubuntu) "KDE desktop login failure: "Could not start d-bus. Can you call qdbus?"" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/130480507:53

eurythmiaHi folks. I've installed 14.04 with encrypted lvm, and I have encrypted my home directory as well. When I rebooted my machine my password to unlock the hard disk was rejected three times, and now when I try to boot into that install I don't even get the splash screen. Any Ideas what might be up?13:28
RFlemingGood Day!13:28
eurythmia... forgot to mention I did an "sudo aptitude update; sudo aptitude dist-upgrade" before the reboot.13:28
eurythmiareboots work fine on a fresh install, but after the upgrade, the defecation hits the oscillation. I'm currently booted into a live USB system.13:29
eurythmiaFrom the live USB system, I can mount the encrypted volume.13:30
drfoo_in reference to openssl bug : is 14.04 vulnerable ?13:50
bekksdrfoo_: Yes. Install regular updates, done.13:50
drfoo_ok i did13:51
drfoo_OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 201413:51
bekksdrfoo_: then read this: http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-2165-1/13:51
drfoo_14.04 is not listed13:51
bekksBut the CVE are.13:52
bekksAnd they state which vevrsions are affected.13:52
eurythmiabekks: could the new version have anything to do with why my password for my encrypted drive isn't recognized?13:53
bekkseurythmia: No.13:54
drfoo_thanks for the info bekks:  how do I update ? I did apt-get dist-upgrade then a reboot13:55
eurythmia... darn. It's a thought :-(13:55
eurythmiado you know if the behaviour I'm experiencing is expected? (i.e. three bad passwords, drive locks forever?)13:55
bekksdrfoo_: Then you are running the latest, fixed, version.13:55
drfoo_okay, I was looking for version "g"13:56
drfoo_OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 201413:56
bekksdrfoo_: then you should reread the changelogs :)13:56
drfoo_k tnx13:57
drfoo_okay so the openssl version is the same it's just patched , is that correct ?14:02
k1ldrfoo_: yes. its patched since april 7th14:05
drfoo_14:05
k1lmost news sites dont tell, that moste big linux distros already made updates or patched versions available14:06
drfoo_i was looking for 1.0.1g after update14:07
drfoo_saw it was still 1.0.1f thought something went funky14:07
jjavaholicwhy would /usr/lib/nvidia-331/xorg/nvidia_drv.so call gettimeofday() when redrawing/resizing a window?14:48

jjavaholicI have asked this question in #nvidia to no avail14:50
bekksjjavaholic: I doubt nvidia will open the code for you.14:52

xenolyseAnyone who got that bug when clicking icons in the launcher doesn't register?17:28

ubottubug 1283775 in unity (Ubuntu) "Launcher: icon pips are not always updated properly" [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/128377517:33

xenolyseWas just checking to see if anyone else had that bug and found a temp workaround17:36
trismxenolyse: oh that is probably because of the timeout, if you wait a minute or so can you open them again?17:36
=== qengho is now known as CardinalFang
=== CardinalFang is now known as qengho
xenolysetrism: nope. Reboot or reset unity doesn't work either. I can access their right-click meny though17:39
xenolyseand i can launch them from dash17:39
trismxenolyse: weird, I don't notice that here although I'm not using nvidia17:43
xenolysetrism: it's a mystery but yea, it's probably something to do with the nvidia driver.17:52
trismxenolyse: does middle click work? (if your mouse has the button that is)17:55
xenolysetrism: no, only right click.17:55
xenolyseI'll note that none of the options in right click menu does work when clicked17:56
trismxenolyse: are there any leftover processes running? does gedit stick around after closing it17:58
=== tinoco is now known as inaddy
xenolysetrism: nope. I can open it gedit in dash, lock it to launcher and close it perfectly, but i can't open it again from launcher. Works fine if i open it in dash again and the launcher do indicate that it's running.  No, no leftover processes from gedit when closed.18:03
xenolyseI'm gonna try to change to graphic driver18:03
xenolysethe*18:04
melkorIf I am using kubuntu 14.04, who do I ask about errors.18:12
xenolysetrism: It seems like the 331.38 from nvidida-331-updates(proprietary) does indeed work as it should without the bug. The bug only seems appear when Im using version 331.38 from nvidia-331(proprietary, tested).18:12
bekksmelkor: you just ask in here.18:12
melkorkdewallet has died, when I login and it pops up I get an error 42.18:13
melkorI have no clue what that is.18:13
melkorAlso is there a way to stop NetworkManager? I updated last night and when I restarted there was an error with qdbus and I couldnt get back to my desktop. I needed to stop NetworkManager so that I could use wpa_supplicant.18:14
trismmelkor: sudo stop network-manager;18:23
melkortrism: Ill try that next time. I was trying to use service. Thank you.18:25
trismxenolyse: that is strange, now I'm curious what the difference between the two are18:26
trismmelkor: hmm service should have worked too18:26
melkorThe only thing I could find as a service was networking. And stopping that didn't do anything.18:27
BluesKajcan cinnamon be installed without unity or gnome ?18:27
bekks!info cinnamon18:29
ubottuPackage cinnamon does not exist in trusty18:29
xenolysetrism: what is even more strange is that one of the users writes in the comments of bug 1303325 that the opposite does work for him. That he got no problem with the tested version and that the updates version have this bug.18:29
ubottubug 1303325 in unity (Ubuntu) "clicking on its launcher icon doesn't open it (occured after closing app before)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/130332518:29
bekksBluesKaj: It isnt part of Ubuntu, is it?18:29
BluesKajbekks, somebody with kde was asking me in kubuntu18:33
BluesKajbekks, I tried it , but that was after installing std ubuntu with unity18:34
BluesKaji would ask in #ubuntu but I'm personna non grata there18:35
k1lBluesKaj: it uses the gnome base (as gnome and unity do too) but changes alot of stuff there which makes problems with unity and gnome-shell. so it was removed from debian and ubuntu.18:36
IAmNotThatGuyHi. I just installed 14.04 RC over my 13.10. Trusty works fine for a while and then the screen freezes. The only option for me is to hold on the power button, shut down and start again. I am having NVIDIA GEFORCE 740 and a verified NVIDIA Driver. The DMESG looks clean btw18:36
IAmNotThatGuyKindly advise18:36
k1lBluesKaj: but there is a PPA for installing cinnamon18:37
BluesKajk1l, ahh , ok thanks I'll check for it.18:37
trismxenolyse: yeah, I just checked both packages, the nvidia installers in both packages have identical checksums, the only difference I see currently is renaming things to -updates, so I'm pretty stumped why that would work18:39
xenolysetrism: well, so far it seems to work.18:44
Beldar!reisub | IAmNotThatGuy hard shutdowns are not good.18:45
ubottuIAmNotThatGuy hard shutdowns are not good.: In an emergency, you may be able to shutdown cleanly and reboot by holding down Alt+PrintScreen and typing, in succession, R, E, I, S, U and B. For an explanation, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key18:45
IAmNotThatGuyThanks Beldar.18:46
Beldarno prob, not sure on graphics is all18:47
IAmNotThatGuyI am yet to try the x driver. I will check that later. If there is anything that I should check, I can do that too18:48
