smbapw, It built locally. I started a ppa build as well12:45
smbapw, You might check whether you got a "Breaks" in the libvirt version I got on chinstrap for you to make sure I did not only dream of pushing it there12:46
smbapw, The laptop I was provisioning just got near ready for testing12:48

jsalisburyrtg, there are a bunch of duplicates of bug 1305480  I linked all the dupes to your bug.  Just let me know if you need me to do anything on that bug.15:58
ubot2Launchpad bug 1305480 in linux (Ubuntu Trusty) "BUG: pcmC0D0p:0, pos = 16390, buffer size = 16384, period size = 1024" [Medium,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/130548015:58

bjfhatch, did you ever get your haswell macbooks booting properly?20:40
hatchbjf you bet! http://fromanegg.com/post/82251710943/how-to-install-ubuntu-on-a-mac-or-macbook :-)20:41
bjfhatch, had you filed a bug on that issue?20:42
bjfsforshee, ^20:42
hatchbjf the bug was filed by someone else20:42
bjfack20:42
hatchbjf it boils down to two things, not picking the +mac image and using the EFI installer20:43
bjfhatch, ack. seems like that +mac image isn't needed like it used to be20:43
sforsheebjf, hatch: it's bug #128408520:44
ubot2Launchpad bug 1284085 in linux (Ubuntu) "unable to boot after install on 2013 macbook air" [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/128408520:44
hatchyeah it's pretty confusing because the docs say to use that one if you have a mac :)20:44
sforsheeI asked for testing of processor.nocst to see if that makes a difference, but no response from anyone yet20:44
hatchyeah thats the one20:44
hatchsforshee ohh I missed that - I don't have the legacy install any longer sorry20:45
sforsheebjf: note that I think apw was working to de-emphasize the +mac iso and possibly to get a release note20:45
sforsheehe added a release note task at least20:45
bjfsforshee, yes, i think i saw that email20:45
hatchyeah that would really help 20:45
sforsheewould be nice to fix the bug, but most of the time I think the efi install is a better option anyway20:46
hatchyeah it looks like the mac needs to be at least a few years old now to not use the EFI option20:47
hatchand who uses computers that long :P20:47
hatchcould a guy write a script that someone could run in osx to tell them what kind of install to use?20:47
sforsheehatch: I have no idea, I'm not really familiar with the reason the +mac image was needed in the first place20:48
hatchgotcha20:48
hatchit looks like the regular version has both installers 20:49
hatchso yeah....not sure :)20:49
hatchRight now I'm just trying to figure out how to get my battery life back :)20:53
sforsheehatch: does your machine have hybrid graphics?20:58
hatchsforshee yep it has the new nvidia discrete card and the haswell iris gpu20:59
sforsheeyeah, you'll only be able to use the discrete graphics and often power management there is poor20:59
hatchhmm....that's not really any goood :)21:00
hatchis this because noone has written a proper driver?21:01
sforsheethere's a driver, but there are some issues with getting the discrete graphics working that haven't been fully solved yet21:02
sforsheethere's been some progress recently, but afaik nothing that's in upstream linux yet21:03
hatchahh ok, if I wanted to follow the development on this, where might I look?21:04
sforsheehatch: not sure if there's any discussion going on. Last thing I know about it was that mjg59 had some patches which were working for him.21:06
sforsheehatch: http://www.codon.org.uk/~mjg59/tmp/retina_patches/21:06
hatchhmm cool, looks like there is some thunderbolt stuff here too, that's great becuase those also don't work :D21:07
=== DarkPlayer_ is now known as DarkPlayer
bjfhatch, when you say thunderbolt doesn't work, there have been problems with it hotplugging in the past. i have to plug mine in and reboot.21:33
hatchbjf yeah that's what I have to do too, which is no good unfortunately21:34
hatchif we are going to convince people to run ubuntu over osx it's got to be pretty flawless imho21:34
hatchnot that it's anyones fault of course21:34
bjfhatch, i talked to the intel folks about it. it's an issue with the apple firmware. not sure there is anything to be done about it.21:35
hatchohhh ok, that's unfortunate, maybe someone will make some nice hardware like this without all the proprietary business :)21:36
mjg59"issue"21:37
mjg59Apple chose not to implement Thunderbolt in System Management Mode21:38
bjfmjg59, yes :-)21:38
mjg59Which is obviously the correct choice21:38
mjg59But Intel21:38
hatchseems like an odd choice21:47
mjg59hatch: It means you can do things like tell the user when they've connected too many devics22:04
hatchahh, I suppose that would be nice :)22:06
