=== jrgifford__ is now known as jrgifford [05:13] paultag: Had a chance to take a look at the email and what the problems are with the second package yet? [12:05] good morning everyone! [12:14] Morning, starrats. [12:14] How are you? [12:21] I'm fine belkinsa [12:21] sorry was afk for a few minutes [12:21] It's alright, most of us lurk. [12:21] but I'm on ubuntu 14.04LTS now got rid of xubuntu [12:22] Do you like it? Why the switch? [12:23] just switched this morning and why I switched is that I had problems with the login window, it was always 'freezing up' on me [12:24] Ah. Unity is nice and I think searching for what you need is faster than looking for it. [12:24] getting used to ubuntu and getting back into my macbook days with everything on the left side of the screen like minimize/maxamize buttons [12:25] I'm hoping the 'greeter' screen is nicer to me on ubuntu than it was on xubuntu [12:25] I think they are working on that. [12:26] by the way, lol where's the 'settings manager' on ubuntu? [12:26] You know where the clock is? [12:26] upper right? [12:26] Or you can search it on the dash of Unity. [12:26] ah ok [12:26] Right, that icon takes you a menu that has it [12:27] is it called 'system settings'? [12:27] System Settings... [12:27] Yes [12:27] cool, thanks, it's also on the leftside with the other major apps [12:28] little wrench and cog [12:28] I guess you are right. [12:29] need to do a few things there thru out my day today [12:29] Same. [12:29] how's school for you? [12:29] And that includes looking for my dream job: http://ubuntusense.com/2014/04/24/my-dream-job/ [12:29] [ My Dream Job | The Ubuntu Sense ] - https://j.mp/1ntEPDG [12:30] Spring semester is over for me, this week was finals. I have two week break than summer classes. [12:31] ah cool and busy busy for you [12:31] Yup. [12:31] With two more semesters to go [12:32] then you graduate? [12:32] Yup. [12:32] With a BD in biology [12:32] cool [12:32] that's right you're into Biology [12:32] I remember from before now [12:33] specializing in DNA isit? [12:33] But like I said that blog post, I don't want to do all research, I want to tie in my hobby of OpenSource. [12:33] Yup. [12:34] okay makes sense [12:36] you ever thought of working in forensics with both Bio. and Opensource creating new 'apps'? [12:37] I have, but the class that teaches that at UC is in the next spring and I will be done by then. But then again, I can learn that myself. [12:37] true [12:37] get your Masters in that field [12:38] I'm thinking about that but (hate to say this) I'm a 2.7 student. [12:38] My grades are bad. [12:38] And I can't kill my lazyness. [12:40] ouch on the gpa and lol on the laziness but you sound like a very busy person with taking summer classes and trying to get out early [12:40] I'm not, I been in school for 5 years now [12:40] It's something that I don't like talking about. [12:40] And in public too. [12:42] ah okay subject is now closed [12:42] Thanks. [12:42] * belkinsa has issues. [12:43] There, now closed. [12:43] you are not the only one though belkinsa everyone has issues of some sort [12:43] I know. [12:44] my issues are unreal right now, lol [12:44] May I ask what they are? [12:49] sure, I have recently started insulin for my diabetes, I have to move somewhere down the road because the house I'm living in is now up for sale and the woman that I told you about awhile back is no longer my gf but we remain BFF's [12:49] Ouch. [12:51] I also have a pinch L5 nerve root that requires an injection to relieve my daily pain but i have to maintain a good blood sugar to receive the injection [12:51] Is this due to age? [12:52] yes and also damage from a fall many years ago, it's all catching up to me now [12:52] Ah. [12:54] it's been a week now that I have been doing insulin once a day along with my pills I was doing before [12:55] Did the pills stop working for you? [12:56] basically yes, my doctor says my Pancreas is 'tired' and not creating enough insulin even with the two different pills i take twice a day, I'm type II diabetic [12:57] Ah, I see. [12:57] been a Type II for 12 years now [12:57] Type II is late-onset? [12:58] it's probably a heredity factor, my Mom was bordrline and my Materal Grandmother was full blown diabetic, [12:58] yes onset for me [12:58] Most things have that and environmental factors. Nothing is a simple one-gene trait. [12:58] one of those autoimmune things, lol [12:59] Well, a few things are. [13:01] so far I'm enjoying ubuntu, bouncing between here and Facebook, will have to do a few more things in term to get all i want squared away [13:01] That's good to hear, I still have my netbook to set up. [13:01] but noe worried about it at the moment [13:01] * belkinsa is on a 2005 laptop [13:01] not/noe [13:02] I'm on a toshiba satillite [13:02] I'm on a Toshiba laptop that's from 2005 and is an old worklaptop that my mom gave me, [13:03] a couple folks thinks that is why I was having my xubuntu problems, incompatibility issues [13:04] my laptop is 2 to 3 years oldbought new at Best Buy summer of 2012 [13:05] Have you asked in the #xubuntu channel? [13:05] yes many times and they say it's not their issue but it's my problems [13:06] Ah. I am that same boat. [13:07] the problem is/was the cursor would 'freeze' right at the login screen and I couldn't put my password in [13:07] and i had to do a hard shutdown all the time to rebot [13:08] reboot [13:08] Bummer, did you try another favour other than Ubuntu? Like Lubuntu. (if you want a more Linux feel) [13:09] no I haven't [13:10] I like xfce and that is why I went with xubuntu but I also have used regular linux in the past [13:11] Try Linux Mint or whatever it's called? [13:11] .* [13:11] s/./? [13:11] belkinsa meant to say: ?* [13:11] I know some folks call ubuntu 'bloated' and slow but so far I don't see that with 14.04 [13:11] Nevermind [13:13] anyway I have to go downstairs and get the place squared away for the realtor to come and retake some photos, bbl [13:13] See ya later [14:18] Unit193: yeah, I'm still uot of town [14:18] but I can this weekend [15:49] back from the cleaning and crap for the realtor's new photos [16:00] I am constantly reminded why package managers exist. [16:35] back from stuff [16:36] is there a channel that is for offtopic subjects for ubuntu? [16:40] ubuntu-offtopic exists, i think [16:40] but this room generally is fair game [16:44] ah okay thank you, I'm new to ubuntu [16:45] plus it's an OH based channel and I lived in OH [16:45] live/not lived [18:11] paultag: Ah, alrighty. Just wondering how I can do it better, don't think I did yet. [23:21] good evening everyone!
