cyborgcygnusJust installed the lubuntu i386 alternate, is it supposed to boot into a command line os? I thought the installation was just an alternate installer & then it boots into graphical desktop.05:00
holsteincyborgcygnus: lubuntu has a GUI, yes05:00
holsteincyborgcygnus: did you try a live CD?05:00
JohnDoe_71Rusdo you install lubuntu-desktop at final install stage?05:01
cyborgcygnusholstein, The alternate i386 doesn't have a try option if that's what you mean. I first installed from usb, then for some reason the ancient pc wouldn't boot back to that for a reinstall so I made an actual cd. Same results apart from the failed to install components or something, I don't remember seeing options for lubuntu-desktop JohnDoe_71Rus05:08
cyborgcygnusJohnDoe_71Rus, ^05:09
JohnDoe_71Rusin this stage http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Rf56AL-pm3Y/TCD8zcqgQ5I/AAAAAAAAFwo/_zQJiRJj5NM/s1600/Tasksel.png05:10
JohnDoe_71Rusneed check options05:11
cyborgcygnusI think I'll try the desktop iso instead of the alternate.05:11
JohnDoe_71Rusgood idea05:11
cyborgcygnusJohnDoe_71Rus, I had no options like that come up. Maybe I should make sure I'm watching the entire time.05:12
JohnDoe_71Rusyou can find video alternate install05:16
cyborgcygnusJohnDoe_71Rus, Can I just install lubuntu-desktop from the command line?05:50
JohnDoe_71Rusyes05:51
cyborgcygnusI shall do it, I'm guessing there's more commands I need to run to make it boot into that by default?05:51
MaxFrameshello07:08
MaxFramesin lubuntu 14.04, how do I make so that a certain command (namely, "setxkbmap -it") is executed at boot time?07:09
MaxFramesgoal: work around a problem with the american english keyboard layout always being selected (and not changeable) in the logon screen07:09
MaxFramesactually I think it's "setxkbmap it"07:14
MaxFramesdo I just add the command to the "autostart" list?07:14

comics_ideesyes but I dont stretch it13:02
comics_ideesit is in proper witdth13:02
comics_ideeswidth for 2 monitors13:03
leszekyeah I guess it does not work with different resolutions set. This needs support in pcmanfm which isn't there13:03
leszekor at least it wasn't there last time I checked.13:03
comics_ideesso what should I do13:04
comics_ideeswhen I open pc one screen has the wallpaper and the other screen has default lubuntu wallpaper13:04
comics_ideesI wish the wallpaper cover both screens13:05
leszekcomics_idees: that isn't supported by pcmanfm13:07
comics_ideesis there any other utility13:07
comics_ideesthat could do the same ?13:07
leszekif you don't need desktop icons you could use a normal wallpaper setter13:07
leszekfeh is one of this apps13:07
comics_ideeswhat is a normal wallpaper setter13:07
comics_ideesfeh ok13:07
comics_ideesI will try it13:07
leszekfeh is a commandline app. So make sure to read its manpage (man feh in terminal)13:08
comics_ideeshm this sounds difficult\13:08
comics_ideesI will try it13:08
leszekit isn't. You just need to fint the correct parameter13:10
wwwwwwi found the 2 deb packages . will go try it . back in a bit13:22
comics_ideesI tried feh14:30
comics_ideesbut the wallpaper is like an image in feh it is not wall paper14:31
comics_ideesyou click close14:31
comics_ideesand it disappears14:31
leszekcomics_idees: you did not read the manpage than. There is an option to set it as wallpaper14:33

Mr_CometHello ppl. Good day.16:46
koellHello Mr_Comet17:00
Mr_CometHello :)17:00
Mr_CometI am a PuppyLinux user. ex user of Mint 14 XFCE17:01
koellYou're welcome!17:01
Mr_Cometi was told by a friend to try Lubuntu os.17:01
koellyeah im on lubuntu too <317:01
Mr_Cometand i have successfully burned it on cd/rw17:01
koellfastest lubuntu ever made :)17:01
Mr_Cometyeah ive heard so about the speeds and ram usage claims.17:01
Mr_Cometfrom live cd demo, i can see it uses only 202mb out of my 3GB Ram.17:02
koellultra lightweight, nothing crap :D17:02
Mr_CometI have a question thou.17:02
Mr_Cometc:\ 30GB Fat3217:03
Mr_Cometd:\ 268GB NTFS (For data only)17:03
Mr_Cometi dont know what lubuntu needs for a proper install on my laptop.17:03
koellu need an ext4 partition for17:03
Mr_Cometi only use C:\ partition for os.17:03
Mr_CometSo Ext4 for C:\ partition?17:04
koelldo u have other OS installed on that c: drive?17:04
Mr_Cometyes17:04
koellwindows?17:04
Mr_Cometcouple of flavors of Puppy Linux and Windows17:04
Mr_CometWindows XP17:04
Mr_Cometusing Grub4 as present.17:04
Mr_Comet*at17:04
koelloh okey, so you can't format the whole disk and need to create a partition first17:05
Mr_Cometthats my whole setup details.17:05
koellbut i think lubuntu will ask you on the installation17:05
Mr_Cometi see17:07
Mr_Cometthe simplest way to install lubuntu for me would be to select SDA1 aka C:\ and format it to ext4 and install on it. rite?17:07
koellMr_Comet: then you will delete the other OS.17:08
Mr_Cometyes. im aware of it17:08
koellxD17:08
Mr_Cometmy data is on d:\ partition17:08
koellgood way17:08
Mr_Cometyep.17:08
koelllubuntu will ask you on the installation if you would like to keep the other OS or delete anything and install lubuntu alone17:09
Mr_Cometi see17:09
koelli've not tried puppy before, is it lightweight too?17:10
Mr_Cometkoell, is quick format ok?17:10
koellquick format? do you want to delete the other os?17:10
Mr_CometPuppyLinux iso are around 150-200MB17:10
Mr_Cometkoell, yeah.17:10
Mr_Cometi have the iso;s of all puppy linux including windows xp.17:10
Mr_Cometso no problem if i want them again in future.17:10
koellMr_Comet: i dont know the difference. doesnt matter i think :D17:11
Mr_Cometkoell, Lubuntu iso file size is almost 700MB17:11
koelli would just let the lubuntu installation do anything for me :D17:11
sparrow___first time lubuntu user here to, in the process of installing17:11
Mr_CometPuppyLinux iso file size is just almost 200mb.17:11
Mr_Cometsparrow___, cool.17:11
koellMr_Comet: oh cool so it is fast?17:11
Mr_Cometkoell, lolz okies :D17:11
Mr_Cometkoell, "lightening" fast.17:11
sparrow___does it really use 200bm ram idle?17:11
sparrow___mb*17:12
koell:D17:12
Mr_Cometsparrow___, for me yes. around 200-202mb or so out of my 3GB ram during demo live cd/rw17:12
koellyeah in in idle17:12
koell203 :D17:12
sparrow___thats not very lightweight :( i thought it would be around 80-100 like the xp i tried17:12
koellwith i3wm you only need 150 :D17:13
koelllightweight enough these days17:13
koellidk any lighter :)17:13
sparrow___all i want to do is have QT creator, and be able to build Blender17:14
sparrow___is there a better choise than lubuntu?17:14
sparrow___(running in a VM)17:14
Mr_Comet200mb seems nice.17:14
koellwhy dont you install blender on the machine itself?17:14
sparrow___building it17:15
sparrow___not running17:15
koelloh okey17:15
koellMr_Comet: how much does puppy need in idle?17:15
Mr_Cometiso is just 200mb or less17:16
Mr_Cometi dont think it uses alot.17:16
koellthe new firefox is really fast as well17:16
sparrow___lubuntu and puppy can run the same software?17:17
koellidk, is puppy a derivate of ubuntu?17:18
Mr_Cometkoell, fast and some say version 29 makes computer hot.17:18
Mr_Cometsparrow___, it needs pet files. no apt gets.17:18
sparrow___Mr_Comet: as a windows user i have no idea what that means. but i gues its a "no" :)17:21
koellMr_Comet: Hot? it is lot faster than before :D17:21
Mr_Cometsparrow___, how fast is the install ?17:21
sparrow___Mr_Comet:  been at it for 2h now -.-17:23
Mr_CometWHAT?17:24
Mr_Comethow old is ur pc/laptop?!?!17:24
sparrow___not the fastest laptop and im doing alot of other stuff at the same time17:24
Mr_CometVM ware?17:24
sparrow___virtualbox17:24
Mr_Cometokies17:25
Mr_Cometgonna install lununtu.17:25
Mr_Cometlubuntu17:25
Mr_Cometbye :D17:25
sparrow___bye17:25
koellbye17:25
Mr_Cometo/17:25
Mr_Cometta ta17:25
ideasman42sparrow___, got it working?17:47
sparrow___ideasman42:  still installing -.-17:48
ideasman42?17:49
ideasman42why so long?17:49
ideasman42???17:49
ideasman42on my system it takes ~10min max17:49
ideasman42if you have an old system, using a VM probably isnt a great idea17:49
ideasman42its just going to run baddly17:49
ideasman42and annoy you17:49
sparrow___xp took nowhere this long time :/17:50
sparrow___yes its "old" but im also running it in powersaving mode to its doomed to take a while :/17:50
ideasman42sparrow___, xp if 14 years old17:51
ideasman42you could try a lightweight linux thats also 14 years old17:51
ideasman42but then you wont get a modern development environment17:51
ideasman42sparrow___, ubuntu is one of the most popular systems running in the cloud17:52
ideasman42its really quite well suited to running in VM's17:52
ideasman42if this gives trouble, I think you may have issues with your setup17:52
ktk1Hi all.  Is this an ok place to look for help with display driver issues?17:53
sparrow___the only purposse of this VM is for me to get familiar with the source code again...17:53
sparrow___i had no problems 1 year ago when installing it on my main os17:53
sparrow___ideasman42:  you said QTcreator saves the different "find in files"17:55
sparrow___is there a way to keep this when restaring qt?17:55
urielvigilanti download a open source software, after extract i have 2 folders and 3 or 4 files, one of those is .JAR , how to install this on my lubuntu 14.04 ?17:55
sparrow___it thats the cause i will just drop the whole VM thinge17:56
sparrow___and install qt for windows17:56
ideasman42sparrow___, nope17:56
ideasman42it saves the searh string17:56
ideasman42but not the search results17:56
sparrow___i find it weird how none of the softwares actually does that17:57
sparrow___been looking on sotwares ment purely for "find in files" not even those have tye option to keep the reslut if closing the software17:58
sparrow___its a great tool for shortcuts17:58
ideasman42sparrow___,  for this stuff, I use grep a lot too17:58
ideasman42sparrow___, think picking your OS based on a find tool is a bit silly18:00
ideasman42there are loads more important things to worry about18:00
ideasman42like good compiler warnings, debugging tools available... stability18:00
sparrow___ideasman42:  im picking OS depending on what will make me able to build18:00
sparrow___im all for windows18:00
ideasman42meh, well, use whatever works18:01
ideasman42but you were having a lot of trouble with windows18:01
sparrow___in the VM yes18:02
sparrow___but i "need" the snapshot function18:02
sparrow___ideasman42: meh, im gona cut the power for the lubuntu VM. if i cant get it to work with the xp VM...ile just drop the whole idea with a VM.18:08
sparrow___it hough it was about done when it was in 83% before... but then it goes back to 1%>18:08
sparrow___god knows how long this will take18:09
sparrow___its 2gb big now18:10
sparrow___had the impression ubuntu was small enough to fit on a small usb stick18:12
ideasman42one with exact packages chosen would be18:14
ideasman42but most desktop installs include things like email programes, image editor, etc18:15

ktk1Looking for display driver help. Any takers?19:22
lozengei just installed lubuntu on an acer aspire one. the wifi see's my network but i type my encryption key in and nothing happens19:37
ktk1Anyone know how to fix monitor frequency out of range error?19:48
ktk1I'm looking for help with display driver issues.  Anyone got the magic?19:57
bjorn_Hi all. I have problem to lock my screen, neither when I try to  "lock" in the menu or waking up computer after suspend. Quickfix? Bug?20:13
ianorlinlaptopbjorn which versoin of lubuntu?20:13
bjorn_ianorlinlaptop, the last one, 14.0420:14
ianorlinlaptopgo to the menu prefrences light locker settings and make sure it says lock screen after suspend20:14
bjorn_ianorlinlaptop, great!20:15
bjorn_brb20:15
ianorlinlaptopalso make sure enable light locker is on as well20:22
bjorn_ianorlinlaptop, its one step forward. It  works when suspend from menu, although not from my dedicated Fn button.20:22
comics_ideescan I change background in login screen of lubuntu?20:23
ianorlinlaptopcomics_idees: to do that you would need to edit /etc/lightdm/light-dm-gtk-greeter.conf and change the background file to the file you want to replace the background with20:26
bjorn_ianorlinlaptop, hmm. it seems that Light locker doesn't remember my settings, even if I tick "apply" the switch is OFF next time I try.20:28
bjorn_and what about my issue about just locking the screen, seems strange to me not to be able to lock my session when off for couple of seconds20:30
ianorlinlaptopI think control alt L is the shortcut for locking in lubuntu not sure about fn key to lock would have ot do keybinding20:31
bjorn_ctrl alt L doesn't work. lock from menu works now anyway.  another step forward20:33
hiig_hey, is anyone able to help me set up raid1? ive got a computer here on the installation screen, but i cant find anything regarding raid21:37
ktk1 I'm trying to figure how to fix signal frequency out of range when I'm using the radeon driver. The fglrx driver doesn't give me that error messege. With the open source driver I have to boot with a different monitor, then switch back to the monitor I use normally.21:41
