pedahzurThat was fun. Upgraded to KDE 4.13. Log in. Notes pops up, says it wants to migrate my notes. I say go for it.  But now notes says I have no notes. Grr.00:40
pedahzurAlso, how does one restart kdm these days? There is no /etc/init.d/kdm file any more.00:40
pedahzurThankfully I still have ~/.kde/share/apps/knotes/notes.ics  But it would be nice if the migration had actually worked.00:43
Chaserpedahzur: isn't it lightdm ?00:44
pedahzurChaser: Maybe? There is not /etc/init.d/lightdm either.00:44
pedahzur*no00:44
rvdvI have done a new installation of Kubuntu and here there is a /etc/init.d/lightdm00:47
Chaserme too, have lighttd init file. Standard kubuntu 14.04.00:47

lordievaderGood morning.06:40
Luke_They could anyone help with a pretty big problem i'm having?06:41
valorieLuke_T: what problem?06:42
Luke_TI've been trying to uninstall kubuntu but i can't get it to work at all. I initially installed it with pendrivelinux and since i did that, I haven't been able to use pendrivelinux again for a different operating system06:43
Luke_Ti'm trying to put OSX back on06:43
Luke_Toh yeah I should probably mentiion its a macbook06:44
lordievaderLuke-T: Shouldn't the OSX installer take care of that?06:46
valorieuninstall?06:47
valorieYou can just wipe that part of the disk06:48
Luke_Tsorry for being a noob but how would i do that?06:48
valorieI don't know anything about installing OSx, sorry06:49
Luke_Ti mean how would i wipe it? everything i've tried hasnt worked so far06:50
lordievaderOpen a partition editor and remove the kubuntu partitions.06:50
valorieon your 'pendrivelinux' you could put a disk repair ISO06:50
lordievaderAlso people don't like it when you crosspost.06:50
valorieor if it's just one or two partitions, rather than the whole disk, what lordievader said06:51
valorie!partition06:51
ubottuFor help with partitioning a new install see: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PartitioningSchemes l - For partitioning programs see !GParted, or !PartitionManager (!Kubuntu 9.04 and up) - Other partitioning topics include !fstab !home and !swap06:51
Luke_Tthanks for the help i'll try that, also sorry for cross posting it was just annoying me :P06:51
F-3000Heya there! I got this fancy problem, that I got boot sector (MBR) on wrong place. It should be on internal HD (sda), but it went to USB-stick (sdb) during install - a and b were opposite than normally and I forgot that in one point. Kubuntu itself works good, it just doesnt boot if that USB-stick isnt in place. Could someone hint me about how to move/reinstall only the MBR? Using GRUB, as default on Kubuntu (14.04). I installed thru mini07:16
F-3000Suprisingly a lot multilive-USB gives headaches. :D07:17
valorieF-3000: this happens suprisingly often07:20
valorie!grub07:20
ubottuGRUB2 is the default Ubuntu boot manager. Lost GRUB after installing Windows? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestoreGrub - For more information and troubleshooting for GRUB2 please refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub207:20
valorieyou'll want grub207:20
valorieand the restoregrub has good stuff too07:21
lordievaderF-3000: Just install grub to sda again.07:32
F-3000valorie and lordievader: thanks. Mere sudo grub-install /dev/sda did the trick. :) Now I need to figure out how to restore grub for the multiliveusb. :P08:02
lordievaderF-3000: Boot into it and run "sudo update-grub2"?08:03
valoriemulti-liveUSBs are sort of unreliable, IMO08:03
F-3000valorie: It has worked quite well for me. Only problem is, that I cant access the start-menus of the ISOs.08:04
F-3000valorie: And I have to keep in mind that sda and sdb might swap, so that I don't have to go thru this again. :P08:07
F-3000valorie: Well, maybe one "problem" is, that I cannot choose guided partitioning, as mostly innerHD is not available as an option, only the multiliveusb, which I find extremely odd.08:09
valorieI found the multiUSB to be useful to show off various ISOs08:10
valoriebut not reliable for installing08:10
F-3000How it's unreliable for installing?08:11
valoriethat's been my experience08:11
F-3000What difficulties you've faced?08:11
F-3000valorie: Just out of curiosity. Maybe I can learn something.08:13
valoriethe same as you -- misplaced grub08:14
F-3000valorie: Heh, usually grub goes into proper place. This time, a & b were swapped, and I forgot to change sda to sdb when minimal-install asked for grub location.08:16
valorieOK08:16

nick87720zhello. I just got kde 4.13 from kubuntu backport ppa. Made full reboot just for kdm restart (was a bit lazy to do it manually). Now akonadi doesn't work: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7378246/08:33
F-3000Some hints how to start figuring out why wlan isn't working? I've installed restricted drivers that Kubuntu suggested (thru Driver Manager), yet still nothing. Wlan cannot be enabled thru network manager.08:46
lordievaderF-3000: Is the correct driver loaded? (lspci -k|grep Network)08:47
F-3000lordievader: Will check, once system has booted. Thought of booting with acpi=off option, but forgot to add it (removed splash and quiet).08:49
lordievaderF-3000: It's better to leave acpi on, especially on a laptop.08:51
F-3000lordievader: It works oddly. Not as snappy as much slower desktop, cannot shutdown/reboot (have to do 5sec powerbutton down to shut down after "will now halt").08:52
F-3000lordievader: Not sure if correct driver is in use. "Kernel driver in use: wl"08:58
lordievaderBroadcom device? Should be right, does it show up in iwconfig?08:59
F-3000lordievader: Ay, broadcom, BCM4311.08:59
F-3000lordievader: iwconfig shows "no wireless extensions." on both eth0 and lo.09:00
lordievaderHmm, yesterday was someone with the same chip and problem.09:01

F-3000BluesKaj: wlan autoconnected when I did manual modprobe.11:08
F-3000BluesKaj: But I'll take a look at the page. :)11:09
BluesKajautoconnected is not the correct choice of words there, you shouldn't have to modprobe to autoconnect11:09
F-3000BluesKaj: I know that modprobe shouldnt be needed for wifi autoconnection. I find it odd that autoconnection didnt occur. Maybe it's because secrets are local (user), and wlan was started before user had logged in, it failed?11:12
F-3000BluesKaj: I'll reboot and confirm that autoconnect fails, then I'll see what happens when I change connection settings to allow any user to connect with them.11:12

BluesKajif you ran those commands in the tut then the autoconnect is turned on at startuo11:18
F-3000BluesKaj: I'll try delayed login now (not logging in asap).11:19
F-3000BluesKaj: I didn't run any of the commands from tut.11:19

BluesKajok, basiclly the same effect11:19
F-3000Ay.11:20
F-3000BluesKaj: Delay had no effect, still connection. At least its tested that autoconnecting works now, hah.11:20
F-3000BluesKaj: Should I remove default driver, though?11:21
BluesKajF-3000, if it works now , don't "fix" it11:21

BluesKajthe default driver wasn't loading afaik11:22
BluesKajyou just needed it to add it to /etc/modules11:23
BluesKajerr needed to11:23
F-3000BluesKaj: If wl was default, it's off thru blacklist.11:26
F-3000BluesKaj: And yes, got b43 to work by adding it to /etc/modules. Funny that [...]-installer didn't do something already.11:28
BluesKajbcm wifi can be troublesome , but most bcm probs are solvable IME11:28
