mgw | OT: anybody here using System76 laptops? | 01:03 |
---|---|---|
p7ank5te7 | Anyone here familiar with vFense-Server? It's used for update management similar to that of WSUS for windows servers | 01:23 |
justizin | what do people use for an iscsi target / server on ubuntu these days? | 01:38 |
sarkis | hey all, i seem to have mucked something up with motd.. it won't regenerate automatically on ssh login | 04:22 |
sarkis | anyone know what actually triggers that action so I have a clue what to look for? | 04:22 |
sarnold | sarkis: update-motd runs the scripts in /etc/update-motd.d/ | 04:23 |
sarnold | sarkis: update-motd is kicked by pam_motd in /etc/pam.d/ | 04:23 |
sarkis | hmm i don't see pam_motd | 04:25 |
sarkis | ah ok it's in /etc/pam.d/login | 04:28 |
sarkis | and i do in fact see pam_motd, so why isn't it triggered? :( | 04:28 |
sarnold | only in login? | 04:28 |
sarnold | ssh uses the /etc/pam.d/sshd, not /etc/pam.d/login -- and pam.d/sshd may not be consulted for ssh key logins | 04:29 |
sarkis | aha | 04:30 |
sarkis | for some reason sshd is commented | 04:30 |
sarkis | damnit. | 04:30 |
sarkis | the pam_motd line in ssh | 04:30 |
sarkis | ugh | 04:30 |
sarkis | i wonder why someone would comment this out | 04:32 |
sarnold | maybe it busts an ancient expect script? :) | 04:33 |

themhz | hi all | 14:56 |
themhz | I have set the permissions to some files and folders in /var/www/somewebsite to 644 and for folders 755. But when I open a file from netbeans I can't edit it. Why is that happening? Physically I am the owner of those files and folders under that directory, why can't I edit them? If I change permissions to 777 I can edit them normally. | 14:56 |

duli | When I try to install pecl_http on ubuntu server 12.04 I get a missing php_raphf.h error (http://pastebin.com/kpdrNP7G). I can't find any info on how to install this missing dependency. Any pointers? | 18:37 |
dw1 | something -dev | 18:41 |
dw1 | http://www.mkfoster.com/2009/01/04/how-to-install-a-php-pecl-extensionmodule-on-ubuntu/ | 18:41 |
duli | dw1: tks, I have already seen that link. I have all the dependencies. For some reason, it is not downloading and compiling raphf and propro when I issue pecl install pecl_http | 18:44 |
duli | I'll try to remove and install again.. | 18:46 |
duli | somehing is clearly broken | 18:46 |
dw1 | duli: you could try this upcoming 14.10 package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php-raphf/1.0.4-1/+build/5946141 | 18:46 |
dw1 | doesnt exist for other versions | 18:46 |
dw1 | if youre on 14.04 should work? | 18:47 |
duli | I tried in a fresh installed Ubuntu server 12.04. It has worked. The command pecl install pecl_http itself downloads and installs raphf and propro | 18:48 |
dw1 | ah yeah its a pecl package too | 18:48 |
duli | but on the broken machine pecl thinks raphf is there, but it's not | 18:48 |
duli | so id does not download and compile it | 18:48 |
dw1 | is it installed somewhere else | 18:50 |
dw1 | can it be installed individually | 18:50 |
duli | okay, removing with pecl uninstall rapfh and then installing pecl_http has worked | 18:50 |
dw1 | :) | 18:50 |
duli | tks | 18:50 |

Gallomimia | installing the ubuntu server on my desktop. 14.04 image downloaded from the site. i'm installing it onto a raid5 with encryption and lvm. finally got those partitions configured but i am lacking someplace to put the grub boot loader. what did i do wrong and where do i go back to to fix it? | 23:29 |
PryMar56 | Gallomimia, setup a block device (not LVM) for /boot, make it about 1G | 23:38 |
Gallomimia | yeah. will i need to de-raid the drives and slice off a partition for that? | 23:39 |
Gallomimia | thought this happened anyway | 23:40 |
PryMar56 | not de-raid, but shrink the PV's | 23:40 |
PryMar56 | raid is OK, if its raid 1, then 2 /boots are needed | 23:41 |
Gallomimia | it's raid5 : | 23:42 |
Gallomimia | i'm still within the installer of course | 23:43 |
Gallomimia | i have a separate drive from all this with an old bootable system | 23:43 |
Gallomimia | i think this means i have to deactivate all the LVM partitions and delete the volume group. then partition the encrypted volume pre-LVM | 23:44 |
Gallomimia | do i need to get the /boot partition before the devices are raided together? | 23:58 |
