FakeBoostHello.02:19
ianorlinhi anyway I can help?02:20
FakeBoostThanks, for the response!02:23
FakeBoostI'm trying to upgrade lubuntu from 13.10 to 14.04, ianorlin.02:23
ianorlinrecommend back up data if you have anything important02:25
FakeBoostNo data to backup...02:26
FakeBoostI just found on google how to upgrade ubuntu, not lubuntu...02:26
ianorlinit is the same way mainly02:26
FakeBoostI think it might not work because lubuntu doesnt have the same apps02:26
FakeBoostfor ex, the update manager02:27
ianorlinyes but they share some basic components02:27
ianorlinit should have update manager02:27
ianorlinit doesn't have same software center but does have update manager02:27
FakeBoostin lubuntu i can see "software" updater02:27
FakeBoostin the system tools menu02:28
ianorlinthey are the same thing02:28
ianorlinjust some thing have different names in menu02:28
FakeBoostok, so i'll try the ubuntu tutorial right now and see if it works, i'll tell you how it goes, ianorlin, thanks!02:28

FakeBoostianorlin, I just ran the updater, to upgrade, as the tutorial says, but in the tutorial says click upgrade, etc...But now in my lubuntu says restart to finish installing updates...It is different!03:05
ianorlinum that is normal03:06
ianorlincould be tutorial you have is wrong03:06
ianorlinor maybe you haven't run for a while and new kernel03:06
FakeBoostmm03:07
FakeBoostit's a fresh 13.10 install...03:08
FakeBoostwhat do i do??03:08
FakeBoostdo i restart??it doesnt say anything about upgrading!!03:08
FakeBoostalthough in the terminal it did say03:08
FakeBoostsomething03:08
ianorlinyes as being current before ugrading system is good03:08
FakeBoostso??03:09
FakeBoostdo i restart?03:09
ianorlinyes you restart03:09
holsteinFakeBoost: what do you mean, a fresh 13.10?03:10
holsteinFakeBoost: if its a fresh 13.10 install, dont upgrade, just get 14.0403:10
FakeBoosti just installed 13.10, and i want to upgrade to 14.0403:10
holsteinFakeBoost: sure.. dont03:10
holsteinFakeBoost: just get 14.04 and fresh install03:11
FakeBoostI already ran $ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade03:11
holsteinFakeBoost: if you litrally just installed 13.10, and have no data, why bother?03:11
FakeBoostholstein, i can't get the 14.0403:11
FakeBoostthis is the only option for me03:11
ianorlinwhy can't you get 14.04?03:11
FakeBoostold pc03:11
holsteinFakeBoost: you obviously have internet access..03:11
holsteinFakeBoost: you *can* get 14.04.. and should03:12
FakeBoosthow?03:12
FakeBoostno usb boot03:12
FakeBoostmobo03:12
ianorlinplop03:12
holsteinFakeBoost: so03:12
FakeBoostno optical working03:12
FakeBoostso03:12
holsteinFakeBoost: do it now you did 13.1003:12
holsteinFakeBoost: you installed 13.10 fresh just now somehow.. do it the same03:12
FakeBoosti can't do it, burnt two 14.04 and they didnt work03:12
FakeBoosti want to believe this other way works.03:12
holsteinFakeBoost: this is not a good idea03:13
FakeBoostso why is it an option?03:13
ianorlin!md5sum03:13
ubottuTo verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows03:13
holsteinFakeBoost: you can believe what you want, but troubleshooting the boot issue with 14.04 would be the best03:13
holsteinFakeBoost: it *is* an option.. its just not a good one03:13
FakeBoosti want to end what i started03:13
FakeBoosti'm going with the upgrade03:13
holsteinFakeBoost: sure.. enjoy!03:14
FakeBoostthanks!03:14
holsteinFakeBoost: it takes a few minutes to install 14.04.. probalby take a couple hours for that upgrade03:14
FakeBoosti'll go for it03:14
holsteinFakeBoost: then, what if its kernel support with your hardware in 14.04 that is the issue?03:14
holsteinFakeBoost: and you get the same black screen? a03:14
FakeBoosti don't have any black screen.03:14
ianorlinno his 13.10 is working03:15
holsteinFakeBoost: anyways.. we'll be here.. you should be fresh installing 14.0403:15
holsteinsure.. whatever the issue is with 14.04 live.. could be the same after upgrade from 13.1003:15
holsteinits just that it takes a few hours to find out03:15
uncle_benjust installed lubuntu and i'm getting a black block in my url bar in firefox instead of text...screencap here: http://i60.tinypic.com/1zlqamd.png04:55
FakeBoostianorlin, holstein, just upgraded, working, sorted out minor bug, and now working.05:34
ianorlincongrats FakeBoost06:12
FakeBoostThanks!06:13

ma5t3rw1ttI have a problem and I have searched around for and keep getting mixed results. I recently installed Lubuntu on my Home Theater Computer and must I say it runs awesome. Got the sound driver, graphics driver and more all setup the way I want it. The only problem I have having is that every 10 minutes my tv screen goes blank. I read into this and its something about the screensaver or something and I don't even have that installed.23:14
ma5t3rw1tt I have already went through my power settings and changed everything and nothing seems to be working. Any help on this?23:14
ma5t3rw1ttI am trying to watch a movie but have to move my wireless mouse to keep the screen from going blank which is annoying23:15
Doranwensorry, I have no idea, I'm here with a question of my own23:22
DoranwenI just tried installing Lubuntu on a friend's old laptop--and it's not using the full screen23:23
Doranwenit's using about 3/5 of it, both dimensions, with odd color warpedness in the rest of the screen23:23
Doranwendon't know how to tell it to use the entire screen23:23
DoranwenI ran the command xrandr and got that it actually thinks the laptop's monitor is only 640x480--and I'd venture to say it's actually 1024x768, from the look of it23:28
Doranwenhow do I change what *hardware* it's seeing, since it's clearly not seeing it correctly?23:28
