Bundestrojaneri have a really strange problem in 14.04: i started an old game in Wine in fullscreen-mode. it set the resolution of kde down to 1024x768 (or something near). I set it back to 1920x1080.07:58
BundestrojanerNow, the Desktop area seem to have an offset: At start of KDE, i see a part of 4times background images, they form a cross where they border.07:58
BundestrojanerAt the desktop-switch (where the displayed applications are shown as gray rects), only a small part of those gray rects is in the desktop.07:58
BundestrojanerAnd the worst problem: When i start a game in fullscreen-mode, the mouse pointer is "caged" in a rectangle in the left upper corner with ~1/5 of the screen size. Changing the resolution in a fullscreen-game also changes those size of the cage...07:58
Bundestrojanerthe desktop-problem looks like this, but with 4 background-images meeting:08:03

Bundestrojanerthis taskbar-app shows the position and size of a window on the desktop by drawing it as a dark-gray rectangle.08:12

gp1Hello. I need some advice on an issue since upgrading to 14.04.10:17
gp1My computer username is the same as my work network username. However, my computer password is different to my work network password (because the work network frequently makes me change passwords).10:17
gp1Since 14.04, I think there is some smart feature which automatically uses my computer password when I open my email client (thunderbird). I think it must keep trying to authenticate because I then get locked out of my company network (for multiple wrong passwords).10:17
gp1I made a new user account with a different username to my work username, and haven't had the issue. But I'd prefer to keep the old user name. I wonder if anyone knows what has changed in this release and if there is a way to disable this feature. Thanks a lot.10:17

BluesKajy4ns, you have force the soundcard to use snd-hda-intel , not mid , add this to alsabase that you just edited, options snd_hda_codec_hdmi index=-214:29
BluesKajthen sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel14:30
y4nsBluesKaj: You mean options snd-hda-codec-hdmi index=-214:30
AceKingI installed Kubuntu 14.04 32 bit along side of Windows 8. I had to delete a petition in order for it to install. Appearantly it was the MBR petition for Windows. After install I was only able to boot into Kubuntu. I downloaded Grub Customizer, but it was unable to detect Windows 8. I tried fixing the MBR with a Windows install disk, and now I'm getting error: unknown filesystem14:30
AceKinggrub rescue >. I booted in with LiveCD, installed boot-repair, but it can't fix grub. Any ideas how to fix this without reinstalling Windows 8?14:30
AceKingSorry that was so long.. I just wanted to make sure you know what steps I took14:31
BluesKajy4ns, dashes or underscores , it makes no difference14:31
y4nsBluesKaj: K14:31
y4nsBluesKaj: No diffrence14:32
BluesKajAceKing, in kubuntu try , sudo os-prober , then sudo update-grub14:33
AceKingBluesKaj: OK14:33
BluesKajy4ns, either reboot or run sudo alsa force-reload14:34
y4nsBluesKaj: No diffrence14:35
BluesKajwhat did you do y4ns ?14:37
AceKingBluesKaj: Same error. The only way I can boot into Kubuntu is using Super Grub2 disk14:39
BluesKajno grub, AceKing ?14:39
AceKingBluesKaj: No14:39
y4nsBluesKaj: This what You said ->http://share.pho.to/5XzNr14:40
AceKingBluesKaj: Error: unknown filesystem. Entering rescue mode... Grub rescue14:40
y4nsThen sudo alsa force-reload14:40
BluesKajhold the left shift key down after the bios screen when booting , AceKing14:40
AceKingBluesKaj: OK14:40
AceKingBluesKaj: Same error14:41
y4nsBluesKaj: Also when i tip "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* | grep Codec"14:43
y4nsI have something like this "Codec: Realtek ALC269, Codec: Silicon Image SiI1392 HDMI"14:43
AceKingBluesKaj: I have a flashing prompt with that error. But anything I type in there comes up "Unknown command"14:44
BluesKajAceKing, ok , boot in with the supergrub disk then open the partition editor in kmenu>apps> settings and check to see if your ntfs partition still exists14:44
y4nsSo ill try to find in /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/HD-Audio-Models.txt.gz my card to put this line "options snd-hda-intel model=MODEL" with my model but...14:44
AceKingBluesKaj: OK14:44
BluesKajy4ns, do you have the hdmi connected to a monitor or tv ?14:45
y4nsBluesKaj: Nope14:46
BluesKajok14:46
AceKingBluesKaj: I can see the drive with Windows on it. If I go into Dolphin, I can see all the files in Windows14:49
AceKingBluesKaj: I meant petition with Windows14:50

y4nsBluesKaj:  I already try all of this options14:52
y4nsThats why im here :/14:52
y4nsBluesKaj: Thank for help btw14:52
BluesKajAceKing, the boot-repair cd is usually quite dependable, I've used numerous times to repair/rescue grub14:52
BluesKajy4ns, well I'm out of ideas now... you seem to have an anomaly there that I can't figure out14:53
AceKingBluesKaj: OK. going to give that a shot now. Thank you!14:54
y4nsBluesKaj: But thanks for help anyway15:00
BluesKajy4ns, definitely a mystery snd-hda-intel should work15:04

y4nsI remove them, becuase it didnt help15:21
BluesKajyou should at least have, options snd_hda_intel index=015:22
AceKingBluesKaj: OK, I just ran boot-repair LiveCD. I tried to repair grub I get a message saying: GRUB is still present. Please try again15:22
BluesKajy4ns, to make your onboard the default15:23
BluesKajAceKing, are you using uefi mode for both installs ?15:24
AceKingBluesKaj: Yes15:24
BluesKajAceKing, go into the uefi/bios and try the legacy mode, then if grub doesn't show try boot repair again or if grub is available then update-grub in kubuntu and windows should show up15:27
AceKingBluesKaj: OK15:27
BluesKajI have some stuff to do for a few mins...BBL15:29
AceKingBluesKaj: Before I rebooted, I uploaded data to http://paste.ubuntu.com/7416631/ Not sure if that helps.15:30
