Laneyhallo08:02
seb128good morning desktopers08:05
seb128hey Laney08:05
Laneyhey seb128, what's up?08:06
seb128we have some blue sky today!08:06
didrockspfff, usual business in the "south" :p08:07
seb128wait for those rainy clouds I just send08:07
seb128they should be on time for your midday exercice :p08:07
didrocksseb128: I plan to leave for exercise in 40 minutes, ahah, too late! :)08:08
seb128the forecast looks good for Lyon this week/w.e, nice for you08:09
seb128not so much next week though08:09
didrocksyeah, but again, they will be wrong! :)08:10
didrocksat least, until I'm leaving for Malta08:10
seb128haha08:10
seb128;-)08:11
didrocksand then, as usual, it will rain like cats and dogs just to go to the tramway for the airport trip08:11
seb128yeah, right, let Julie under the rain and go to the sun08:11
didrocksyeah \o/08:11
seb128lol08:11
didrocksthat's how you ensure that someone miss you :p08:11
didrocks(just for the weather of course)08:11
seb128right, what else? ;-)08:12
seb128"I married Didier to get good weather, nothing else"08:12
didrocks:)08:16
Mirv:)08:26
xnoxseb128: i'd like to join Debian GNOME team =) i've sent an application about it on alioth.08:48
seb128xnox, that seems like a good idea ;-)08:49
seb128(not sure who approves members nowadays, I've not been really active in the team for a while)08:49
Laneywhy are you asking in *ubuntu*-desktop for that?08:49
seb128you might want to check with them on #debian-gnome oftc08:49
Mirvseb128: I filed bug #1319711 for ubuntu-system-settings AP test that started failing yesterday08:53
ubot5bug 1319711 in ubuntu-system-settings (Ubuntu) "test_tz_list_initially_empty started failing in image #29" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/131971108:53
seb128Laney, ^08:54
seb128ogra_, ^08:54
Laneyok08:54
xnoxseb128: well you are an admin, you can approve people =)08:56
seb128xnox, right, except that I don't feel like I've been member of that team enough recently to take admin decision09:06
seb128that's more a leftover status09:06
seb128thanks for asking on #debian-gnome ;-)09:07
Sweet5harkSo, sometimes after suspend on trusty I get a different looking lockscreen  (with a gtkish prompt) and that one always claims my password to be wrong. Known issues?09:09
seb128no09:09
seb128is that similar to the < trusty lockscreen? (gnome-screensaver)09:10
seb128did you check you keyboard layout in there?09:10
Sweet5harkKeyboard layout shouldnt be an issue, Im using US everywhere.09:15
Sweet5harkThe thing has a gnome3ish top bar and says "Light DM" there. FWIW, it might be because I installed quite a few xubuntu packages which might have messed with that.09:16
Sweet5harkactually, the background is not my session wallpaper but something xubuntu-branded, so yeah.09:20
Laneyyou probably got light-locker09:25
seb128Sweet5hark, ok, I don't know about that one, but what Laney said09:26
LaneyI guess it's supposed to accept your password though, so if you're inclined you might want to debug with xubuntu people09:26
Sweet5harkseb128, Laney: Indeed, I had that package (now removed). You make that sound like its an illness. Can I get vaccination? ;)09:31
Sweet5harklets see if this helps in the next wakeups ....09:32
seb128Sweet5hark, well, you might still want to report a bug to be nice to xubuntu09:32
seb128let us know09:32
Sweet5harklets see if it solves it ...09:32
Sweet5harkseb128: (and I will have a hard time describing reproduction: I had a weird unity/xubuntu mix there and it only happened sometimes)09:33
Laneyyou sometimes got different lock screens?09:34
Laneythat sounds ungood09:34
Laneyhttp://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/may/15/uk-forecast-enjoy-hottest-day-year-weekend09:43
Laney(H)09:43
seb128Laney, they forecast 26°C here next week09:46
Laneyhaha09:47
Laneydon't take this away from me!09:47
seb128you can file a written request, it's going to be precessed in due course... ;-)09:48
seb128meanwhile it's grey and windy again09:48
seb128take your rain back!09:48
* didrocks sees blue sky here09:49
Laneyla la la la09:49
didrocksfailed to run before the dentist though due to this cu2d request09:49
didrocksso, I guess that will be post-dentist :p09:49
seb128didrocks, dentists? good luck!09:50
seb128just checking? or anything to get fixed?09:50
didrocksthanks! just checking yeah, normally :)09:51
seb128good09:51

didrocksonly 2!09:51
seb128haha09:51
seb128Julie made you, right? ;-)09:51
didrocksyeah ;)09:51
seb128:-)09:51

seb128I didn't for like 15 years now09:52
didrocksshouldn't be enjoyable :p09:52
* seb128 touches wood as well09:52
ochosiSweet5hark: sounds also like you have lightdm-gtk-greeter (which is what xubuntu uses over unity-greeter)09:52
Sweet5harkochosi: thanks, also removed now09:53
seb128Laney, so, I got side tracked in doing slidedecks yesterday, but looking again to the unity8 iso10:05
seb128Laney, if I use your script, is it going to use the ppa to build the iso?10:05
seb128Laney, or asked different "how do you I get the patched upstart on the iso"10:06
seb128upstream and unity8-desktop-session10:06
Laneyyeah the script adds the ppa10:06
Laneysee add_ppa in there10:06
Laneydon't forget to use the new livecd-rootfs auto/config from the ppa on your host10:07
seb128I installed that deb10:07
Laneynod10:07
seb128ogra_, please avoid calling compiz cruft, it's still our main desktop and we have people doing good work on it ;-)10:27
ogra_heh, ok10:27
seb128no point to demotivate/dismiss good work10:27

seb128wth!10:33
seb128bah, it works in /tmp, I wonder if there is something it doesn't like about my user directories or maybe ecryptfs10:38
seb128well, at least I got it not erroring out10:38

mptkenvandine, I think custom ringtones and notification sounds would be a fine idea, but I don’t set the product requirements. ;-)13:39
kenvandinesure, it's not on any current list13:40
kenvandinempt, but... users expect to be able to set custom ringtones :)13:40
ogra_lets just make a list then :P13:40
ogra_users also expect to set their own wallpaper ...13:40
kenvandinempt, and rickspencer3 told me to make sure it got added :)13:40
ogra_not that we would allow that one either ...13:40
kenvandineogra_, good point :)13:41
ogra_(and we still have a system-settings option for the wallapaer stuff)13:42
ogra_(which is a no-op)13:42
kenvandinetrue... it half works :)13:43

margaHi! There are a bunch of files in /etc/X11/Xsession.d that modify the STARTUP variable, always adding to it without deleting the rest of the content.  Recently, though 99upstart was introduced, which replaces STARTUP with "init --user" thus deleting any changes done to it by other scripts.14:01
margaIs this on purpose? It's breaking ssh-agent for me, but I suspect it probably breaks other things for other people.14:01
margaI use ssh-agent and not gnome-keyring daemon, it used to start because it gets added through 90x11-common_ssh-agent, but it doesn't start anymore now that 99upstart deletes it from the STARTUP variable.14:02
seb128Laney, mpt, kenvandine, larsu, charles: settings meeting?14:03
larsuseb128: I'll join in a couple of minutes14:03
seb128marga, xnox was working on the ssh agent issues I think14:04
seb128check with him directly maybe14:04
seb128he's probably the best to ask about that14:04
margaI saw some changes related to gnome-keyring14:04
kenvandinei didn't really have anything to discuss, cramming to finish something up before leaving for malta14:04
seb128kenvandine, ok14:04
xnoxmarga: ssh-agent has a native upstart session job.14:04
margaxnox, you mean the openssh-client package?14:04
xnoxmarga: thus ssh-agent should be working correctly under upstart managed desktop user session.14:04
xnoxmarga: correct shipped in the openssh-client package.14:05
margaIt's not working for me.  It's possible that it's something related to local customizations.  I'll investigate further.14:06
seb128larsu, don't bother14:06
xnoxmarga: well, read /usr/share/upstart/sessions/ssh-agent.conf especially pre-start script.14:06
margaxnox, ok, thanks14:07
xnoxmarga: as there are a number of conditions that need to be satisfied for ssh-agent job to run on start-up.14:07
xnoxmarga: or, in the logged in session $ initctl --user status ssh-agent, should say start/running.14:07
xnoxif not, something is not working correctly.14:07
margaxnox, I'm missing the upstart file14:08
margaI guess that's the root cause of the problem :)14:08
xnoxmarga: =))))) you can disable upstart managing the desktop session by commenting out your desktop session from /etc/upstart-xsessions14:09
margaxnox, what would I lose if I did that?14:09
xnoxmarga: and then it should all be "normal xinit/gnome-session" with no upstart managing the user session.14:09
xnoxmarga: we have converted _all_ flavours to use upstart sessions, and some packages started to assume that upstart is available in the desktop session.14:10
xnoxmarga: and thus some things may be missing dbus-activation files and/or xdg-autostart files. In that case those services will not be running.14:10
margaok. Well, I'll make sure that the upstart file is where it should be, then.14:10
xnoxmarga: but i would consider that a serious / sru bug. As the intention was that in Trusty, one should be able to run a non-upstart-managed desktop session by default.14:10
xnoxmarga: yeap. if something still doesn't work properly, feel free to ping me =)14:11
margaxnox, thanks! :)14:11
seb128larsu, sorry I was discussing with some QA guys, the "don't bother" is because nobody was there, so no point14:15
seb128we just had some QA guys and Ken who joined later14:16
