[03:12] im having trouble getting ardour to run i paid for it so it isnt third party and i installed qjackctrl but it says it cant reconnect to the midi [03:13] qjackctrl gives me eralso [03:13] liquorstoredrunk: paying for something has nothing to do with if its 3rd party or not [03:14] liquorstoredrunk: you can pay for it, and still use the included verion in the ubuntu repo.. or not pay for it, and compile your own version of the latest from the ardour site [03:14] okay i was just putting thaat out there that i have the version from ardour.org [03:14] regardless, whic are you using? [03:14] liquorstoredrunk: the latest? [03:14] yes [03:14] i just got it today [03:14] liquorstoredrunk: consider just using the stock ubuntu version at frist, to get used to everything [03:15] !proaudio [03:15] For information on professional audio tools in Ubuntu, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/ProAudioIntro [03:15] make certain jack is running, and go from there [03:15] i would do that but i need to save plugins [03:15] liquorstoredrunk: not sure what you are talking about [03:15] jack tells me it cant connect to the server [03:15] liquorstoredrunk: plugins are different [03:15] liquorstoredrunk: jack will need to be running, then the other things will likely just work [03:16] liquorstoredrunk: you follow the guide i gave, and make sure jack is running and working properly [03:17] i have jack running im going to try again [03:17] liquorstoredrunk: you really need jack started *before* trying to open any audio applications.. [03:18] jack telles me it couldnt connect to the server as a client [03:18] liquorstoredrunk: sure.. so jack is *not* running [03:18] liquorstoredrunk: you have no reason to try and do *anything* else til you get jack running [03:19] im here because i need help getting it running [03:19] liquorstoredrunk: ardour depends on it, and its trying to start it, and will be kicking out errors [03:19] liquorstoredrunk: sure.. did you consult the link i gave [03:19] liquorstoredrunk: did you close *everything*? [03:19] liquorstoredrunk: i'll help.. you will do this [03:19] close *everything* [03:20] open *only* a terminal and run.. [03:20] okay [03:20] ps aux | grep jack [03:20] you can pastebin that if you dont understand it [03:20] !paste [03:20] For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imagebin.org/?page=add | !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. [03:20] if you do understand it, kill any running instances of jack [03:21] i typed it in and lots of text popped up [03:22] liquorstoredrunk: sure.. you read the link i *just* gave that explains how to share that information with me [03:23] http://paste.ubuntu.com/7465973/ [03:23] liquorstoredrunk: you are running installers there [03:24] liquorstoredrunk: you need to stop running *everything* [03:24] liquorstoredrunk: if you cant figure that oue, just reboot [03:25] okay ill come back [03:25] liquorstoredrunk: after reboot do *nothing* besides coming here.. [03:47] okay im back [03:48] !proaudio [03:48] For information on professional audio tools in Ubuntu, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/ProAudioIntro [03:48] ^ that pretty much outlines what im going to do with you [03:49] liquorstoredrunk: you open qjackctl *first* [03:49] nothing else [03:49] okay its open [03:49] liquorstoredrunk: what audio devices are you using? [03:49] audio devices as in? [03:50] liquorstoredrunk: as in devices that do audio [03:50] liquorstoredrunk: a USB device [03:50] just the internal device [03:50] a firewire.. pci.. pci express.. adat.. whatever [03:50] for starters im using a usb interface called the zoom h4n [03:50] liquorstoredrunk: what are you using? [03:50] liquorstoredrunk: for "starters"? [03:50] liquorstoredrunk: not sure what that means, but, this is fact [03:51] when you reboot, those device can jump around [03:51] i said for starters because i wasnt sure what you meant [03:51] liquorstoredrunk: this is what i suggest.. remove the zoom, and use jack with the internal device [03:51] liquorstoredrunk: ok.. unplug that, and *any* other audio ddvice [03:51] devices* [03:51] liquorstoredrunk: just use the internal audio device with JACK right now.. to get used to it [03:52] then, lets close qjackctl [03:52] i unplugged it but i do need the h4n because that it connect to my microphone [03:52] is connected* [03:52] liquorstoredrunk: sure.. but you will *not* be connecting a microphone right now, ok? [03:52] okay [03:53] liquorstoredrunk: you are troubleshooting too many things at tones [03:53] it's unplugged [03:53] once* [03:53] you do it with the internal only, please [03:53] open a terminal and run. [03:53] gksudo qjackctl [03:53] then, in the qjackclt window, click on "setup" [03:54] gksudo isnt installed [03:54] show i install it now [03:54] should* [03:54] no, just open it normally, and click setup [03:55] open qjackctl normally [03:55] frames per buffer 2 [03:55] im in setup [03:55] frames per perio 512 [03:55] liquorstoredrunk: you see "interface".. there are 2 dropdowns there [03:55] liquorstoredrunk: i will literally try *all* options there [03:56] liquorstoredrunk: likely, the default will be fine.. but, thats where you will find the zoom USB device later [03:56] it was on default i changed it to hw:0 [03:56] click "ok" [03:56] ok [03:56] liquorstoredrunk: keep in mind, "default" may be what you want [03:57] anyways.. try it.. [03:57] go back to the main window, and click the start button [03:57] it started [03:57] liquorstoredrunk: ok.. thats what you do *before* opening *anything* [03:57] okay got it [03:58] liquorstoredrunk: you'll stop it completely before trying to use the ZOOM [03:58] liquorstoredrunk: i suggest *not* using the zoom for a while [03:58] okay [03:58] get used to routing and running jack, then throw that in the mix [03:58] without the zoom i can't record into ardour [03:58] liquorstoredrunk: sure [03:58] liquorstoredrunk: im not suggesting that you *never* use it, friend [03:59] liquorstoredrunk: im staying wait [03:59] liquorstoredrunk: use the software, and get used to routing things [03:59] liquorstoredrunk: make sounds.. kick the tires [03:59] *then* in a few days, or hours of use, get the zoom out [03:59] liquorstoredrunk: i realize the zoom has 2 mics, and 2 onboard preamps, and you want to route those to the machine [03:59] when i installed ardour i checked a box that might be giving me problems could i uninstall it to bring it back to default? [04:00] liquorstoredrunk: might be? [04:00] liquorstoredrunk: test and see [04:00] liquorstoredrunk: you have JACK running, try ardour. open a file in there and play it [04:00] okay [04:02] ardour opened [04:03] i dont have any music files on here yet but i think it got it im going to try and see what i come up with [04:03] thank you for all of your help [04:03] liquorstoredrunk: download one.. you should have refernce tracks [04:03] reference* [04:03] liquorstoredrunk: sure.. also try #opensourcemusicians for a nice helpful community [04:04] okay will do and can i find you hee again if i need help? [04:04] here* [04:04] liquorstoredrunk: sure.. me or another volunteer [04:04] okay thanks [04:04] liquorstoredrunk: cheers.. [15:55] Just installed 14.04 and getting it set up the way I want. Love all the easy install menu options and the about ubuntu studio menu option. Great stuff [16:28] Пожалуйста скиньте список актуальных репозиториев для UbuntuStudio 14.04 [16:30] Пожалуйста скиньте список актуальных репозиториев для UbuntuStudio 14.04 [16:30] Please throw off the actual list of repositories for UbuntuStudio 14.04 [16:39] 3.13.0-24-lowlatency [16:39] Please throw off the actual list of repositories for UbuntuStudio 14.04 [16:40] Please throw send for me the actual list of repositories for UbuntuStudio 14.04 [16:43] I tried cutting and exporting a video I shot by a smart phone by ubuntu studio 13.10. In OpenShot I couldn't figure out how to cut. Kdenlive rendered a tiny file that does not show or sound anything. [18:04] hi [21:31] instalar gnome 3 no ubuntustudio, tem como? [23:30] hello. I'm a computer science student just finished with junior year and I'm interested in contributing to ubuntustudio over the summer. Can anyone tell me the best way to get started? [23:41] evening all. any video capture folks in the rom? [23:41] \room [23:53] grrr...disconnected. [23:53] anyways, I'm trying to capture video from a video capture card using VLC...it's a live video feed from a video switcher. [23:54] If I use the record button I get a HUGE file...about 1 gig per minute... [23:54] if I use the media->convert/save to transcode as I record, I can't see the video as it's gettign recorded, but it recods to a reasonable file size. [23:54] There's an option for keep original video, but if I check that, I end up with a movie that only has audio. No video...but I can see the video as it's happening. [23:55] Would I be better off to use the record button but set it to not record the native video? If so, how do I set the record button to use transcode settings?
