IdleOnethe bot is down12:12
Pendulumbah :(12:12
Pendulumokay, then12:12
PendulumHello and welcome to the Ubuntu Membership Review Board for the 1200 UTC meeting for May 21, 2014.12:13
PendulumThe wiki page for the Review Board is available here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Membership/Boards12:13
PendulumWe will attempt to get through all of the applicants that have added themselves to that list before today's meeting. If we are unable to make it through the entire list due to time constraints, then at the next meeting we will move them to an e-mail review and vote.12:13
PendulumThe format for the meeting is as follows: We will go through the list of applicants one by one, by date of application.12:14
PendulumEach applicant should introduce themselves (1-5 sentences) and provide links to their Ubuntu Wiki page. After the introduction the members of the Membership Review Board will review the pages and, if needed, ask the applicant further questions.12:14
PendulumDuring this time it is encouraged for other members of the community to show their support for the applicant. Do not be alarmed if the members of the Membership Review Board are quiet during this time; they are most likely reading wiki/launchpad/forum/other pages and deciding how they are going to vote.12:14
PendulumWhen the board is ready to vote, they will publicly vote in the channel with either +1, 0, or -1 (for membership, abstain, and against membership, respectively). If the sum of those numbers constitutes 50% +1 of members present, then the applicant is now an official Ubuntu member! (feel free congratulate them!)12:14
PendulumPlease remember that only Ubuntu Membship Board members can vote. Especially since the bot is down, it's important that we don't have non-board members voting while we're voting12:15
PendulumOkay, wmack you're up! Please introduce yourself12:16
wmackPlease note, AlbertoSN has submitted his application before mine.12:16
IdleOneHe is not present, please continue :)12:16
wmackSo, if he is present, I will yield to him12:16
wmackThanks12:16
wmackI'm Walter Mack, living in Chandler, AZ, US.12:17
wmackI'm a member of the Ubuntu community since approximately 3 or 4 years.12:17
wmackA member of the greater Linux community since approximately 15 years.12:17
wmackMy involvement with Linux, and Ubuntu in particular are motivated by:12:18
wmack* my professional life12:18
wmack* my desire to advance free and open software (free as in speech)12:18
wmackWith the Ubuntu community in particular, I am involved in the following ways:12:19
wmack* active participant in the azloco IRC channel, where on average about 25-30 people are present. The main reason for me being there is to get and give advise12:20
wmack* active in maintaining the cyber presence of the azloco team. This involves co-maintaining the web site (Drupal-based), and OwnCloud server, etc.12:20
wmack* To the best of my available time, be an active member of the installfest, which is held twice a month. The purpose of this event is to promote Ubuntu/Linux by installing (or co-installing next to Windows) a Linux distribution and giving an introduction to using the desktop.12:22
wmack* publishing some blog posts on http://azloco.org on projects when they might be of interest to the general public12:23
IdleOnewmack: twice is a month is impressive. How many new installs would you say the az loco does on average?12:23
wmackSince toddc is the principal organizer (and he is present on all of the install fests, I think it would be fair to have him answer that question12:23
wmacktoddc - want to chime in?12:24
toddcnormally 4-6 new installs plus another 4-5 returns for addl learning and update issues12:24
wmackI am also attending whenever my time permits the events of the Phoenix Linux Users group.12:25
toddcper event12:25
IdleOnenice12:25
wmackI am done with my presentation.12:25
IdleOnethank you12:25
IdleOneanybody else have any questions?12:25
IdleOnejared, Pendulum Destine?12:26
jaredwmack: I'm reading over the mailing list archives, is that the usual communication method for the team?12:26
wmackI would say the typical comm channel is #ubuntu-us-az on irc12:27
Guest9673besides installfest, do you have any follow up events?12:27
wmackThe principal organizer for events is toddc. He should get the credit for them.12:27
wmackI'm sure he will mention them in his presentation.12:28
IdleOneWe are looking for involvement, not necessarily organizing.12:28
jaredwmack: I notice a lot of the team meetings involve mainly a lot of links. Do you have any success converting the installations you perform into Arizona team members?12:28
wmackI would say that we get new members maybe once or twice every month. Membership here means that people show up to follow-up events or appear in the IRC12:30
wmackMy involvement is primarily in the installfests and in the background tasks of getting the technology running.12:31
wmack(better keeping the technology running)12:32
jaredwmack: sorry to be so slow, we're having to look around. One of the things with your application is it's pretty sparse on details and not linked to supporting evidence12:32
wmackWhat sort of supporting evidence are you looking for?12:32
Guest9673photos, archives?12:33
jaredwmack: generally with events and installfests there are links to event pages with photos, outlines of the events, etc.12:33
wmackOff the top of my head I could point you to azloco.org. You should find a number of posts.12:33
jaredwmack: yep that's what I'm trawling now12:34
wmackyou might also want to look at azloco.org/~ircstats12:34
wmacklook for most often mentioned nicks, post counts, etc.12:34
Pendulumwmack: I found 1-2 blog posts a month going back to March. Did I miss any?12:34
wmackno, that's when I started posting.12:34
PendulumAlso, more testimonials would help. They don't need to be from Ubuntu members, just anyone who can speak to your involvement12:35
wmackI also post when I think it is something that is either hard to find somewhere else, or the information out there wans't working for me.12:35
jaredAs an example, if http://azloco.org/node/166 had a follow up post with some photos of the event and you were able to explain what part you played in the event that would be really handy.12:35
wmackThe installfests I am attending are in the southern part of the PHX metro area. We typically don't take pictures.12:36
wmackI'm not sure if markthomas or toddc want to comment on my involvement.12:37
wmackI realize that there is little documented evidence out there.12:37
jaredwmack: okay so without pictures then perhaps some testimonials from community members that have been assisted really helps us. We're not trying to be difficult but we do have to be diligent to ensure we can see significant and sustained contributions.12:37
wmackI understand.12:38
toddcHe attends every event and spends most of the day doing installs and updates and training new users or working on team projects12:38
toddcour events are all day events12:38
jaredtoddc: great, when did these start?12:38
toddcthe first was 12 years ago12:39
jaredtoddc: ok, so how long has wmack been coming along to help?12:39
wmackapprox 2-3 years. however initially not too regularily12:39
toddcalmost three years to alsmost every event plus meeting on irc weekley12:40
markthomasI've seen him at every event I've attended since I started in Jan, and regularly active in IRC. I don't have hard numbers.12:40
Pendulumwmack: We're not going to vote on your application at this time. We'd like you to come back with an application showing more supporting information. I hope that some of our feedback has helped you get an idea of what would make it stronger. Do feel free to contact me if you want feedback/someone to review the application before you reapply. Thank you!12:46
wmackThank you.12:46
Pendulumtoddc: Okay, your turn. Please introduce yourself12:47
toddcHi my name is Todd Cole I have been azloco team leader for 5 years12:47
toddcrunning 2-3 local installevents per month and weekly meetings12:47
toddcand two ubuntu hours and always looking to start more events12:47
toddcand to promote ubuntu I maintain the mailing lists and some team server projects12:48
toddcand work in IRC to support and communicate to members and new users12:48
toddcand often travel the state to support other lugs and host team servers ect12:48
toddcsince I became team leader the team has continued to grow and expand12:48
toddcboth in size, events, members and projects12:48
=== work_ is now known as Destine
toddc that is my intro thank you12:49
jaredtoddc: I like the page at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArizonaTeam/Installfest/Intrepid-Tucson is there anything more recent?12:49
toddcthere have been severl events and we are starting another I have had several local members fall thru latley12:50
toddclocal contacts for Tucson events12:50
toddcwe are also working and hope to have another in several months at Prescott AZ12:51
Pendulumtoddc: as a general thing, if someone in your team could put together pages like that for events you do, it will definitely help AZ LoCo members with membership applications in the future. (especially if after the fact a list of members attending is added)12:52
Pendulumtoddc: It looks like much of the documented work you've done was prior to August 2013. Is there anything more recent you can show us?12:53
toddcdue to our active team size we have been trying to do more events but we may need to spend more time documenting what we do12:53
jaredtoddc: registering events in loco.ubuntu.com also helps keep track easily12:54
IdleOneupdated docs are a pain to maintain, but like Pendulum said it would greatly help future applicants.12:54
toddcour events and projects continue we have added team services like Own cloud in the ubuntu one gap12:55
jared(Which I see you do, now that I went there to check)12:55
jaredI also notice most of the events and meetings are set up by you toddc, you should have linked to that :)12:57
jaredPages like http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/ubuntu-arizona/2819-west-side-ubuntu-hour/ are perfect evidence, it makes life simple as it's all spelt out, the only improvement would be to upload some photos from each of the events to a team feeed12:58
wmacktoddc is by far the most active and dedicated team member. You should see his fingerprints everywhere.12:58
jaredwmack: you should ask toddc to share the load so you can show evidence for your involvement as well ;)(12:59
IdleOnerunning them through our database as we speak :P12:59
jaredIdleOne: shush, that's a secret database13:00
Pendulumand when you attend events, register to say you're attending!13:00
toddcI do the paper work for the west side event and attend when I can we also have several special demo and installevents latley due to the xp EOL13:00
PendulumOkay, I think we're ready to vote.13:01
PendulumPlease, the only voters should be myself, jared, IdleOne, and Destine13:01
PendulumNow voting on Todd Cole for Ubuntu Membership13:01

IdleOnetoddc: Congrats!13:02
Pendulumokay, end of voting ;)13:02
Pendulumtoddc: Congrats and welcome!13:02
toddcthank you very much13:03
Destinetoddc: congrats.13:03
* wmack applauding toddc13:03
jaredwmack: this is not to say you can't come back soon, just try and show some documentation to make it easy for us to see your involvement in the community.13:03
IdleOnetoddc: Please take the hints back to the team and help them to improve their applications.13:03
PendulumAnd I really am happy to look over applications :)13:04
jaredAnd even more so for "real world" LoCo events, photos are always winnders13:04
wmackI understand - I plan on coming back13:04
jaredwinnders*13:04
jaredFor some reason I have an extra d I can't extract :/13:04
Pendulum(before people apply, I mean ;) )13:04
toddcwill do it has been a while since we have had a new ubuntu member13:04
IdleOnewmack: looking forward to it13:04
PendulumOkay, end of the meeting!13:04
jaredwmack: if you're at all unsure of your next application by all means send it to the mailing list for the membership board and we can have a look over it prior to a meeting.13:05
jaredtoddc: can you pass that message on?13:05
toddcyes no problem13:05
jaredtoddc: cheers, just don't want him to think we aren't willing to help. It's more that we need to be able to see evidence clearly and easily without trawling through pages13:06
