ben-8409hi there! i filled a bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1321421) because sound on my new mb with intel h97 chipset was unusable. i turns out there where just some device ids missing and a patch is lined up for linux 3.15 as of today https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound/+/77f07800cb456bed6e5c345e6e4e83e8eda62437%5E!/#F0. As this is a 3 line change, any chance that could be backporte11:14
ben-8409d for 14.04? 11:14
apwben-8409, that doesn't look impossible indeed11:57
ben-8409apw: would be great. i am currently compiling the ubuntu kernel myself to verify. anything else i could do?12:01
apwben-8409, i see it hasn't made it as far linus' tree yet, it is always nice for it to make it there before we'd pull it in; limits the chance it will change again12:03
ben-8409apw: sure, makes sense.12:04
apwbut i cannot see it changing, it is pretty small, and likely to be in 3.15-rc7 or 3.16-rc112:04
apwso if you could confirm in the bug you have tested with that patch applied to the ubuntu latest12:05
apwwhihc you can build, or i can if you cant12:05
apwand then poke us again when the commit hits linus' tree, then we cna sru it i'd say12:05
ben-8409i am trying currently (something is building) but i noticed there are different ways to build the ubuntu kernel refered in the wiki. i simply used apt-source , applied the patch and build with debbuild12:08
ben-8409as  described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile12:08
ben-8409apw: should i do anything in the bug report? LP:132142112:09
ben-8409and stupid question: how do i know the commit hits linux tree?12:11
apwben-8409, yeah that will work i am sure12:15
apwben-8409, just record your testing in the bug, so someone else reading it can tell you did that12:15
apwand doens't ask you to do it agian12:15
apwyou can tell if it is in linus tree via the gitweb interface for kernel.org, or via cloneing12:16
apwben-8409, or, come back and poke us in about a week when linus' releases the next -rc and ask me :)12:16
ben-8409ok, thanks a lot!12:16
ben-8409my build is done, i will reboot and see what happened 12:18
ben-8409apw: thanks again and bye12:18

greearbanyone know if standard upstream 3.14 kernel will work as a live-cd boot kernel?19:28
greearbie, I want to build a live-cd based on Ubuntu with customized kernel, but would rather use standard upstream kernel as base instead of ubuntu kernel.19:30
apwgreearb, i believe that a live image needs an overlay filesystem to work, and there is not one upstream20:11
greearbahh, I was afraid of that20:11
