alfonsojonHi, I'm installing on Mako using the utopic branch04:26
alfonsojonWhat should my expectations be? I'm aware some things may not work optimally, but I want to know if the phone will be usable04:26
cantstanyalol alfonsojon asking for information while talking smack on #Cyanogenmod04:38
* cantstanya laughs04:38
alfonsojonAlright, I flashed following the instructions04:41
alfonsojonIt goes into recovery, sits there for a while, then reboots to a spinning Ubuntu logo04:41
alfonsojonOnce it's there, it reboots and goes back to Android04:41
alfonsojon(after sitting at the spinning Ubuntu logo for around ten minutes or so)04:41
pngoalfonsojonL try this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/ReleaseNotes04:44
pngo<alfonsojon>: worked for me04:45
alfonsojonI got it to work through a manual flash04:46
pngoOK. I have not used utopic branch so I can not help you with that, but 'normal' branch works for me04:48
alfonsojonUtopic is buttery smooth and looking sexy.04:50
alfonsojonCompared to the "1.0" release04:50
cantstanyadobey: I haven't seen that many cool chats since asking ;(04:58
pngosorry, I did not realized that 14.10 is utopic. anyway I'm on 14.10(r44) and works fine. it is my daily phone.05:27
pngo<cantstanya> what is your problem? not everyone is so advanced as you?05:31

mike321hello i am running ubuntu tocuh on asus google nexus 7 2013 wifi, but where do I set accounts to the tablet ? not the assigned accounts liek google, i mean the login to tablet account ?11:03
mike321and why  can t i install a regular deb on ubuntu touch ?11:07
ogra_mike321, ubuntu touch uses a hardcoded user, there is no multi user support yet11:15
ogra_you can install debs but you lose the ability to do any kind of upgrades .... by default ubuntu touch follows an image based approach which turns the upgrade process into something that only takes a few minutes ofr the full system ... to provide these image upgrade diffs these images need to be readonly11:17
ogra_you can make an image readwrite to install a single deb (or a few more) but the images are limited in size and dpkg uses had links for package upgrades. hard links dont work on top of images that scatter across multiple partitions11:18
ogra_s/had/hard/11:18
mike321thanks ogra, thought every presentation of ubuntu tells me, that i can have a login and guest modus on the tablet to show it around, and of course i like, when i just press update and the new versio  14.10 will be on it. you tell me, i can install a .deb but then the upgrade as oneclick will be lost ?11:24
mike321is anyone able and willing to compile an qt app for ubuntu toch ? the app is ready and we would love to have touch support and see it on the default delivery. can anyone help ?11:24
ogra_you just need to build it as a click package ..... see developer.ubuntu.com ... there is also a QtCreator based IDE that provides everything you need (the Ubuntu SDK)11:25
ogra_multiuser is planned but not yet ready ... the current focus is on getting the announced phones ready (and they wont have multiuser in the beginning)11:26
ogra_there is some "fake multiuser" login setup on the nexus10 currently ... but thats only the UI atm11:27
mike321ok thanks for the information, i think i will buy additionally then an official distributed tablet to see how that will work with logins for the app compile: Yes i can try, but it is very hard for me. the app compiels easily with one click in qt. can you do that ? to make the touch installer and add it to the ubuntu repository ?11:30
ogra_you need to create a click package from the binary and submit it to the click store11:32
mike321i have never done that11:32
ogra_it is described on developer.ubuntu.com11:32
mike321do you have done that ?11:32
ogra_yes, but only with webapps, never with QMl or Qt ones11:32
mike321i an searching for the most efficient way, not the way itself. and if you have done that, already, you are more efficient than me, and I even dont know any persons who then can grant the app.11:33
mike321we have only qt11:33
mike321and do you have one day to create this ? we would donate some small gift even to you in the end11:33
ogra_it is an automated process ... (and the test tools the store used are shipped in the SDK)11:33
ogra_no11:34
mike321why not ?11:34
* ogra_ is seriously busy working on the system 11:34
ogra_and i have never used the SDK (i create my webapp clicks by hand, that wouldnt help you)11:34
mike321well apps are system too, and can we chat about it in a private talk ? you will see then why this is important for the system, are oyu an ubuntu paid developer ?11:34
ogra_try asking in #ubuntu-app-devel ... probably you can find someone wanting to do that there11:35
mike321yah we found one for deb11:35
mike321now it is a specialized task for touch onclick11:35
ogra_i work for canonical, yes (and am half way out the door to catch a flight to the ubuntu touch development sprint)11:35
mike321how many minutes ?11:35
mike321cany ou give me youe emaila ddres s?11:36
mike321plz11:36
mike321I will write you11:36
ogra_if yuo use the ubuntu SDK it should be a single click action to create a click11:36
mike321with a click itis not in the system right ?11:36
mike321you can run the compiles wihile you fly  :-)11:36
ogra_it will be in the store (what you currently see as "available apps" in the "apps" page on your tablet)11:36
mike321really?11:37
mike321no appriovals ?11:37
ogra_i have to run other compiled while i fly ;)11:37
mike321qc ?11:37
mike321your email ?11:37
ogra_there is automated checking11:37
ogra_and a final signoff from a human11:37
mike321sounds good and costs me 3 weeks11:37
mike321who is the final signoff ?11:37
mike321ok then we give it s a try, but please give me your email to ask for further help later11:38
ogra_a team of people ... as i said, you can find them in #ubuntu-app-devel (as well as other developers of apps)11:38
ogra_but i wont have the time to deal with you much ...11:38
mike321your view is devided in system and apps, this is wrong,11:38
mike321it will be fun !11:38
mike321and you already do :-P11:39
ogra_ogra@ubuntu.com ... but dont expect answers soon ... i'm about 2500 unread mails behind ...11:39
mike321really.11:39
mike321shoudl I mark it with a flag  :-)11:39
mike321thnaks tough11:39
mike321though11:39
ogra_seriously, the app developers are more likely to be able to help you with that11:39
* ogra_ works on the low level of the system ...11:40
mike321i read this three times and understood at the zero pint of telling me11:40
ogra_oh, and there is also a mailing list ... probably even better to find someone11:40
mike321i am not moving.11:41
ogra_join that launchpad team https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-phone ... then at the bottom left there is a subscribe button for the mailing list11:41
mike321i dont want a mailinglist11:41
mike321i want a personal contact.11:41
ogra_well, you want someone to package your app11:41
mike321that would be a result, but for you it would be learning as well11:41
mike321and a cool benefit11:41
mike321i am more looking for an expert and the process, rather than the result11:42
ogra_right, tell me where i can suqeeze in another hour in a 6day/14h week that i work already to get the phones we will sell on a few months ready :P11:42
ogra_s/on/in/11:42
ogra_i'm really not the right person for your issue11:42
mike321well, our app is the whatsapp killer :-P11:42
mike321you will need it11:43
ogra_so talk to the guys in #ubuntu-app-devel ... there are the guys maintaining the store and app selections etc11:43
mike321ok wil check additionally11:43
mike321where is the event ?11:44
ogra_(and everyone is traveling this weekend ... there was an app developer sprint lastr week at the place where i will fly to now)11:44
mike321the sprint11:44
ogra_malta11:44
=== gnu is now known as Guest91923
mike321oh cool11:44
mike321and you are one week too late ?11:44
ogra_no11:44
mike321why do you fly to there not one week earlier ?11:45
ogra_app development, toolkit, QA and design were there last week11:45
ogra_system development, plumbing etc is next week11:45
ogra_you are more likely to find someone here (or in the other channel) during the work-week11:45
mike321the interesting question is, if you can see an app as a basis for a system11:45
mike321android grow with free mp3 download from russion servers vkontakte.11:46
ogra_sure, it is just not in my area of work11:46
mike321they gave the sugar to the users11:46
ogra_we have other teams for that11:46
mike321yah makes sense11:47
mike321ok i will ask the channel and come back to you11:47
ogra_if you have issues with upstart, the boot process, image plumbing developer mode on commandline, adb connection or any daemon running on the system, i'm your man11:47
ogra_my job usually stops where the UI starts11:48
mike321i see11:48
mike321yes this job is only gui and compiling. but good to know. interested in a cool kernel software ?11:49
mike321every gui needs a kernel11:49
mike321the interestign thing is, that a kernel software could be part of ubuntu11:50
mike321of the system11:50
mike321because the kernel would create a new p2p environment11:50
mike321this could be a core feature of ubuntu11:50
mike321well I will mail you but then you have to look on your own and will not do due to time restrictions11:51
mike321so maybe we chat one time more later11:52
mike321have first a good filght then, any messenger you currently use ?11:52
mike321hey, deamon ! can we talk about adding a deamon to ubuntu system ? default ?11:54

ogra_(someone could surely provide a click that includes dalvik though)12:02
mike321ununtu is missing apk vms12:02
mike321what is dalvik?12:02
ogra_well, we first need a phone system your mom can use12:03
ogra_then we can start thinking about extending ;)12:03
mike321ok, good approach12:03
ogra_what sailfish does costs a lot of money ...12:03
ogra_they use aliendalvik ... thats run by a company ... you have to license it etc12:03
mike321without apps.. the asus was quite disappointing, i needed to look for all the apps which are there  45, or so. mostly websites. we need to have all the apps shown not shown collapsed..12:04
mike321ah ok12:04
ogra_first we will bring out the announced meizu and bq phones in the second half of the year ... for early adopters ... mom-able phones will still take a while12:04
mike321good to talk to you, stretegic issues are important and I have good ideas for that..12:04
mike321one last point, it is important to update the system with one click12:05
mike321I liek the sailfish update button and all is new12:05
mike321that is how Ubuntu mobiel MUST work too12:05
mike321but i see it is that way, so update and 15.10 will be there soon if I understand right12:06

cantstanyaIs init on touch from android's platform_system_core or whatnot?19:06

Tassadaryeah, I don't think the systemd transition happened yet19:10
cantstanyasomething else? and in any case, is there a possibility systemd will be adopted on touch as well?19:10
cantstanyaoh19:10
cantstanyaanswers my last question I guess19:10
Tassadarit's the same as ubuntu on desktop19:10
Tassadarit is the same system, really19:10
popeyWe'll move to systemd at some point19:10
cantstanyaI thought touch was using a similar base as Android (mksh, their init, etc), I guess I was mistaken.19:11
cantstanyais there a page with a time line of what was used? When surfaceflinger was still used, a similar base as Android's was also use I assume, but when the switch to Mir happened, was there ever a time Mir was used on top of the base Android uses?19:17
Tassadarthe flip happend before mir, I think19:18
Tassadarso there was a not-anroid base with surfaceflinger for a while19:18
cantstanyaoh okay19:18
Tassadaroriginally, it was android with ubuntu in a container19:18
Tassadarnow it is ubuntu with android in a container19:18
Tassadar(and it has been the for a while, since before 13.10)19:18
Tassadar*that19:19
cantstanyawas it trivial to switch from android's base to what's used now (upstart, what I presume is GNU coreutils, dash/bash, etc)19:19
Tassadarum...no I guess?)19:20
cantstanyaalright19:20
cantstanyaAm I right in saying: developing GUI programs on touch is basically QML for GUI declarations, and C/C++/JS for logic right?19:25
TassadarI think so (I never developed anything for ubuntu touch though)19:26
slvn__cantstanya, you can use use graphics libraries to develop only in C / C++, like SDL19:41
cantstanyaIdeally I'd like to refrain from using either of those actually19:57
popeycantstanya: yes, we recommend QML or HTML5 for the UI19:59
