Aucdroneso im trying to install lubuntu 13.10, the installer just freezes as soon asi pick english then click continue03:44
ianorlinyou know that is only supported until July while 14.04 is supported for 3 years03:45
Aucdrone14.04 has stuff wrong with it though :p03:45
Aucdroneuses twice as much ram, wifi isnt automatic03:46
Aucdronei can fix the wifi thing takes 2 seconds but idk about the ram has that been solved yet?03:48
Aucdroneidk why 13.10 freezes when i try to install...03:48
Aucdronemade it up to the '4.4gb space free and internet connected' screen of the 14.04 installer04:27
Aucdroneseems to be doing nothing04:27
Aucdronethe cursor thing is spinning04:27
Aucdroneis there some kind of verbose mode for this04:28
Aucdronecause i have no idea why its stopped on the GUI04:29
holsteinAucdrone: i suggest addressing your issues with 14.0404:29
holstein!nomodeset04:29
ubottuA common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter04:29
Aucdronewow 10 minutes later it tells me some disk has mounted partitions would i like to unmount, wonder why that took so long04:32
Aucdroneim irc'ing from 14.04 while i try to install it.04:33
holsteinAucdrone: i would be testing my hard drive04:34
Aucdroneim installing from a usb flash drive to another flash drive04:34
Aucdronetheyre fast name brand ones though04:34
holsteinthey all break04:34
Aucdronebreak?04:34
Aucdronewhy?04:35
holsteinAucdrone: ?04:35
holsteinAucdrone: *all* drives fail04:35
Aucdronei just bought these today :p04:36
holsteinsure.. you can google search, and see that that is one time when drives are factually most likely to fail04:37
holsteinAucdrone: i dont have that issue.. and havent seen any complaints about that issue.. im not saying you have a bad drive, im just saying, if i saw that message, thats what i would be testing04:38
Aucdronei dont think thats it i think its because lubuntu auto mounts flash drives04:38
holsteinAucdrone: i have gotten more then one USB stick out of the package that was bad.. and "fast name brand ones" as well04:38
Aucdronei got a bad flash drive last week so yeah i know that can happen04:39
holsteinAucdrone: sure. but thats the issue i suggest you address. you dont "think".. otherwise, you can disable whatever you like from any operating system about volume management04:39
Aucdronewhats more likely, failed hardware or bugs in new software? I'm learning toward the latter04:41
holstein!bug04:41
ubottuIf you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug <package> » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs.04:41
holsteinAucdrone: test for both, and address which ever it is04:41
wllrtIs there a way to lock a window, basically what I'm trying to do is type what is on leafpad to another window, but when I click on this other window, leafpad dissapears.06:04
wllrtI would like to lock a particular window, leafpad program in this case, so that when I click out of it, it does not dissapear. Any way of doing this. Using Lubuntu 14.04.06:21
wllrtianorlin: How do I google what you suggested? Windows key plus left or right.06:26
comics_ideeshi I have a problem with google chrome in lubuntu. Google maps load very slow, and youtube videos are very corrupted08:48
comics_ideesalso when I click chrome in docky it takes too much time to open it08:49
hateballDo you know if Chromium behaves the same way?08:52
cristian_cHi09:24
cristian_cI've purchased a Rii mini i8 bluetooth keyboard09:24
cristian_cHow can i enable the keyboard in lubuntu?09:25
cristian_cAny ideas?09:25
cristian_cI've paired it09:25
gfredericksanybody know what packages I need to get ubuntu's ssh-agent behavior?10:49
siawacshI am confusing about the way the ISO are named. I am using an Intel 64 bit architecture quad core i7. But all i see is AMD64. which ISO Is best for me?11:21
JohnDoe_71Rusamd64 is the same11:22
siawacshOK thannks.11:23
siawacshAnother question. Up till Ubuntu 10.04 I had no problems installing. But since 13.10 not so. I read somewhere I have disable my nVidia driver before I can have access to my mouse and keyboard11:25
JohnDoe_71Rusjust AMD was the first x86-64 == AMD6411:25
siawacshII have not seen that ISO. can you kindly provide a link11:26
JohnDoe_71Rusget *_amd64.iso and don't worry11:26
siawacshOK11:27
siawacshDo you know about the installation problem I mentioned?11:27
JohnDoe_71RusTry live CD. This will show that your equipment works.11:29
siawacshLive CD is the same. if I let it load as normal. I end up with a desktop but no mouse or keyboard access. I have reboot then press F4 as soon as I see the icon. I then select compatibility mode. It give me a desktop with generic drivers. But this is not a permenant solution.11:31
gfredericksokay so I've re-learned that ssh-add can get me into the state I want, where the agent knows my key; what I don't know is if there's a way to get the ubuntu behavior of having ssh-add run whenever I try to use a key that it doesn't have yet12:19
gfredericksnot the worst thing in the world; I don't logout/restart too often12:38
gfredericksnext challenge: xmonad12:44
comics_ideesanyone has any idea why google chrome is slow in lubuntu?16:25
lubuntu-livecdchromium came on previous live cd and seemed fast enough but current live cd has ff so haven't tried it16:37
koellcomics_idees: i thought FF is slow :)17:01
comics_ideeswell google chrome cannot play google maps and cannot play videos in my pc17:02
gfredericksI'm trying raw xmonad, and one thing I don't know how to do from the terminal is logout19:14
gfredericksany guesses?19:14
gfredericksI just tried installing the xfce4-session package, but calling `xfce4-session-logout` shows the error message "Could not get owner of name 'org.xfce.SessionManager': no such name"19:21
gfrederickscome to think of it I don't know why I would need to logout without restarting, so this might not be too important19:22

ReptiliaIs Lubuntu well supported? I used to be ignored often when i used it 2 years ago :D23:36
ReptiliaI've installed it now, 14.04, hoping that it will run well on my old laptop, and it does :)23:37
gsilvaI'm sure you'll find plenty of help in this channel if you need any Reptilia23:37
lubuntu-livecdI believe so but only used live cd23:37
Reptiliagsilva:Thanks23:37
lubuntu-livecduses many of ubuntu repositories23:37
ReptiliaHow can i change the number of desktops? Can't find that option.23:38
ReptiliaIf there's any GUI method, i am wondering.23:38
gsilvahttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=203346723:39
ReptiliaI think i'll learn a lot, while using Lubuntu. It's not that GUI based, as other distros :)))23:40
Reptiliagsilva, thanks23:41
ianorlinmiddle click on desktop add desktop or remove last also works23:42
Reptiliaianorlin:That comes in handy :D Thanks!23:44
ReptiliaDamn, this thing is fast.23:47
ReptiliaAm i allowed to add "spaces" between apps in the "Application launch bar"?23:50
ReptiliaAdd "Spacer"*23:50
ReptiliaOr it comes as an entity?23:50
ianorlinthe only real way I can think to do that is with two application launch bars23:50
ReptiliaAnd can't be internally re-organized?23:50
ianorlinwith a spacer between them but redoering would be ahrd23:51
ianorlin*hard23:51
ReptiliaMhm, clear23:51
Reptiliathanks23:51
Reptiliaianorlin:It kind of concatenates them, so i will go with a single App launcher23:54
ReptiliaAlso, when i alt + tab between opened apps, there is a visual effect, how do i turn that off?23:59
ianorlinthe little popup that shows you which window it is?23:59
