[03:44] so im trying to install lubuntu 13.10, the installer just freezes as soon asi pick english then click continue [03:45] you know that is only supported until July while 14.04 is supported for 3 years [03:45] 14.04 has stuff wrong with it though :p [03:46] uses twice as much ram, wifi isnt automatic [03:48] i can fix the wifi thing takes 2 seconds but idk about the ram has that been solved yet? [03:48] idk why 13.10 freezes when i try to install... [04:27] made it up to the '4.4gb space free and internet connected' screen of the 14.04 installer [04:27] seems to be doing nothing [04:27] the cursor thing is spinning [04:28] is there some kind of verbose mode for this [04:29] cause i have no idea why its stopped on the GUI [04:29] Aucdrone: i suggest addressing your issues with 14.04 [04:29] !nomodeset [04:29] A common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter [04:32] wow 10 minutes later it tells me some disk has mounted partitions would i like to unmount, wonder why that took so long [04:33] im irc'ing from 14.04 while i try to install it. [04:34] Aucdrone: i would be testing my hard drive [04:34] im installing from a usb flash drive to another flash drive [04:34] theyre fast name brand ones though [04:34] they all break [04:34] break? [04:35] why? [04:35] Aucdrone: ? [04:35] Aucdrone: *all* drives fail [04:36] i just bought these today :p [04:37] sure.. you can google search, and see that that is one time when drives are factually most likely to fail [04:38] Aucdrone: i dont have that issue.. and havent seen any complaints about that issue.. im not saying you have a bad drive, im just saying, if i saw that message, thats what i would be testing [04:38] i dont think thats it i think its because lubuntu auto mounts flash drives [04:38] Aucdrone: i have gotten more then one USB stick out of the package that was bad.. and "fast name brand ones" as well [04:39] i got a bad flash drive last week so yeah i know that can happen [04:39] Aucdrone: sure. but thats the issue i suggest you address. you dont "think".. otherwise, you can disable whatever you like from any operating system about volume management [04:41] whats more likely, failed hardware or bugs in new software? I'm learning toward the latter [04:41] !bug [04:41] If you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs. [04:41] Aucdrone: test for both, and address which ever it is [06:04] Is there a way to lock a window, basically what I'm trying to do is type what is on leafpad to another window, but when I click on this other window, leafpad dissapears. [06:21] I would like to lock a particular window, leafpad program in this case, so that when I click out of it, it does not dissapear. Any way of doing this. Using Lubuntu 14.04. [06:26] ianorlin: How do I google what you suggested? Windows key plus left or right. [08:48] hi I have a problem with google chrome in lubuntu. Google maps load very slow, and youtube videos are very corrupted [08:49] also when I click chrome in docky it takes too much time to open it [08:52] Do you know if Chromium behaves the same way? [09:24] Hi [09:24] I've purchased a Rii mini i8 bluetooth keyboard [09:25] How can i enable the keyboard in lubuntu? [09:25] Any ideas? [09:25] I've paired it [10:49] anybody know what packages I need to get ubuntu's ssh-agent behavior? [11:21] I am confusing about the way the ISO are named. I am using an Intel 64 bit architecture quad core i7. But all i see is AMD64. which ISO Is best for me? [11:22] amd64 is the same [11:23] OK thannks. [11:25] Another question. Up till Ubuntu 10.04 I had no problems installing. But since 13.10 not so. I read somewhere I have disable my nVidia driver before I can have access to my mouse and keyboard [11:25] just AMD was the first x86-64 == AMD64 [11:26] II have not seen that ISO. can you kindly provide a link [11:26] get *_amd64.iso and don't worry [11:27] OK [11:27] Do you know about the installation problem I mentioned? [11:29] Try live CD. This will show that your equipment works. [11:31] Live CD is the same. if I let it load as normal. I end up with a desktop but no mouse or keyboard access. I have reboot then press F4 as soon as I see the icon. I then select compatibility mode. It give me a desktop with generic drivers. But this is not a permenant solution. [12:19] okay so I've re-learned that ssh-add can get me into the state I want, where the agent knows my key; what I don't know is if there's a way to get the ubuntu behavior of having ssh-add run whenever I try to use a key that it doesn't have yet [12:38] not the worst thing in the world; I don't logout/restart too often [12:44] next challenge: xmonad [16:25] anyone has any idea why google chrome is slow in lubuntu? [16:37] chromium came on previous live cd and seemed fast enough but current live cd has ff so haven't tried it [17:01] comics_idees: i thought FF is slow :) [17:02] well google chrome cannot play google maps and cannot play videos in my pc [19:14] I'm trying raw xmonad, and one thing I don't know how to do from the terminal is logout [19:14] any guesses? [19:21] I just tried installing the xfce4-session package, but calling `xfce4-session-logout` shows the error message "Could not get owner of name 'org.xfce.SessionManager': no such name" [19:22] come to think of it I don't know why I would need to logout without restarting, so this might not be too important === brendan1 is now known as ianorlin === Th3U1timat3 is now known as UltimateNate === UltimateNate is now known as Th3U1timat3 [23:36] Is Lubuntu well supported? I used to be ignored often when i used it 2 years ago :D [23:37] I've installed it now, 14.04, hoping that it will run well on my old laptop, and it does :) [23:37] I'm sure you'll find plenty of help in this channel if you need any Reptilia [23:37] I believe so but only used live cd [23:37] gsilva:Thanks [23:37] uses many of ubuntu repositories [23:38] How can i change the number of desktops? Can't find that option. [23:38] If there's any GUI method, i am wondering. [23:39] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2033467 [23:40] I think i'll learn a lot, while using Lubuntu. It's not that GUI based, as other distros :))) [23:41] gsilva, thanks [23:42] middle click on desktop add desktop or remove last also works [23:44] ianorlin:That comes in handy :D Thanks! [23:47] Damn, this thing is fast. [23:50] Am i allowed to add "spaces" between apps in the "Application launch bar"? [23:50] Add "Spacer"* [23:50] Or it comes as an entity? [23:50] the only real way I can think to do that is with two application launch bars [23:50] And can't be internally re-organized? [23:51] with a spacer between them but redoering would be ahrd [23:51] *hard [23:51] Mhm, clear [23:51] thanks [23:54] ianorlin:It kind of concatenates them, so i will go with a single App launcher [23:59] Also, when i alt + tab between opened apps, there is a visual effect, how do i turn that off? [23:59] the little popup that shows you which window it is?
