[06:25] Morning everyone [06:38] morning all [06:41] More Almal [06:46] morning ThatGraemeGuy bduk1 and everyone else [06:47] Môre oom , Greame [07:20] hi maz [07:20] oh my musta falling in a mine [07:21] i go take sheep out [07:31] hi Vince-0 [07:33] Hi Kilos [08:00] hi Xethron inetpro plustwo superfly [08:02] good mornings Kilos [08:02] oh and hi everyone else [08:09] surp [08:16] hi Golynx [08:17] hi Kilos [08:17] a damn process sucked all my data [08:18] i had the same issue before but with a different process [08:34] greetings peeps [08:35] surp [09:10] hi gremble N8Wulf [09:11] o/ Kilos [09:11] bye! [09:15] oi! superfly whats with the bye? [09:15] didnt i greet you today? [09:19] error (main) couldnt generate image invisible.png while building texture when i open minetest [09:19] what must i do please guys? [09:20] maybe thats why i cant build straight up [09:38] oh Kilos did i tell you i managed to find my bones from that time i accidentally fell into the centre of a lava lake [09:39] it turns out they sink to the bottom of the lava lake, so once i'd watered and mined obsidian like 3 layers down i stumbled upon the bones [09:39] good thing too i had lots of mese and diamonds on me at the time [09:41] wow ThatGraemeGuy great, i told you one they they would pitch up [09:42] mese is a pain in my life [09:43] http://wiki.minetest.net/Ores says that it gets more common at around -256 [09:43] someone started a new mine right next to my houseand also mine in a disorganised fashion [09:43] ive been to -392 and also found min but stronger [09:44] wait until they're inside and drop some lava inside the entrance :-D [09:44] the desert mine goes to -392 [09:44] lol [09:44] there's a desert mine? [09:45] ya man that one where you found the way out [09:45] oh wow is it that deep? :-o [09:45] i want to go to -1024 and find some mese blocks [09:46] i wonder if anyone's ever gone down to like -32000 and how long it takes to get there/back up [09:50] * Squirm yawns [09:50] going to go and watch Crash Car Burn :D [09:50] tonight [09:51] yip its a major ladder drop [09:51] actually was a ladder climb and you did the last bit where i ran out of wood remember [09:52] i battle to find my way to the desert mine and back again. get confused with the junctions in the road [09:53] thats why i mine straight down as well [09:54] we need to mark routes nicely with different colour blocks [09:59] ThatGraemeGuy even gravel just in the branches off the main shaft so one can get back again will work [09:59] so every branch leeds back to the shaft [09:59] leads [10:00] and the desert mine is safe , its past the lava [10:00] how do I find you guys? [10:02] Kilos: that's why i like to use a lot of cobble steps and torches, it makes it more obvious where you came from and where to go next [10:02] and that's why we almost got lost after that lava killing episode, because i rushed in and forgot to leave steps and lights [10:03] lol ya whew [10:04] i get totally lost if i gotta turn around [10:05] how you gonna use scroll right and left click onna fone Squirm [10:06] it'll have it's buttons [10:06] what linux client do you use? [10:06] ubuntu has minetest in the repos [10:07] ok, I have it [10:07] they actually work quite hard on it if you watch #minetest [10:08] some clever kids there [10:13] it's stuck downloading media [11:17] Kilos: I went out... and now I'm going out again for the rest of the day... bye! [11:17] Lunchtime! [11:22] whoot [11:22] didn't realise it was Friday [11:23] Maaz, tell magespawn how's your Asterisk treating you? [11:23] Vince-0: Righto, I'll tell magespawn on freenode [11:34] ThatGraemeGuy, what do you do when you find your bones. I have two lying somewhere that I know where they are , but I can't pick them up or anything [11:35] right-click them and you'll get to see the stuff you had at the time you died [11:35] looks just like a chest basically [11:35] Can I take it then back ? [11:35] yes [11:35] Awesome !!! Thanx [11:35] i think for something like 20 mins after you die only the owner of the bones can take stuff, and after that anyone can [11:36] so hopefully nobody decided to rob your corpse ;-) [11:36] Going to get my stuff right now. Already died twice in lava :P [11:36] And know exactly where they are lying [11:37] on the edge of lava i assume? [11:37] Yep [11:37] i feel on top of a lava lake, and my bones sank to the bottom of the lava [11:37] ish [11:37] took a lot of water and obsidian mining before i could eventually get to them [11:37] Is obsidian good for anything ? [11:38] not really [11:38] Can you throw water directly on lava ? [11:38] you can craft a block into 9 shards, and shards can be smelted into obsidian glass, which looks different to normal sand-based glass [11:39] you can, but its tricky [11:39] gonna go try now [11:39] if you look carefully at lava you will see some blocks look like they are flowing, and you may notice the lava is angled a bit [11:39] And somme get my stuff back from the bones [11:39] then there are others that look static and are a perfect flat cube [11:40] yep [11:40] the flat, static ones are source blocks [11:40] water onto those turns them to obsidian [11:40] cool , thanx [11:40] the non-source ones turn to stone when they contact water [11:43] hahaha lekker warning message ThatGraemeGuy [11:43] i was sure i built a lit tower here [11:43] the best is when you encounter a lake, try and position yourself above it and usually there's a side of the lake that's only source blocks, then you put a water block down there [11:43] which warning is that? [12:04] Works like a bomb !!! I'm busy killing my killer !!! Revenge is sweet :) [12:05] Thanx ThatGraemeGuy [12:16] cool [12:16] from now on you will not run from lava in terror ;-) [12:16] i like the lava lakes because they tend to be surrounded by all types of ores [12:17] go in, water it down and mine like crazy [12:17] also i didn't mention just now, but there's no need to leave the water there, i let it run over the lava and then left-click it back in the bucket for later use [13:31] ThatGraemeGuy now desert mine entrance is as it was meant to be [13:32] oh? [13:37] ladder all the way to the top [13:42] ah ok [14:04] Pmb time [14:05] Crash Car Burn tonight === Rynofear is now known as Rynomster [14:44] Maaz coffee on [14:44] * Maaz flips the salt-timer [14:48] Coffee's ready for Kilos! [14:50] Maaz dankie man [14:50] Groot plesier my vriend [15:12] o/ [15:12] hi [16:11] hi theblazehen [16:12] yay i found my way home [16:12] ThatGraemeGuy you not going home? [16:13] tumbleweed you still here by us? [16:13] Private_User so tell us about it man [16:15] hi Kilos [16:15] tell you about? [16:18] lubuntu man [16:19] lol I was just about to talk about "it" i.e. the word it [16:19] HAHAHA [16:20] its a pronoun by the way for this who did not know [16:20] is it working? has the pc crashed or what? [16:20] hehe [16:20] ah have not had a chance to look at it although [16:20] ai! [16:20] yesterday I left it on without touching it [16:20] you windows peeps and your priorities [16:20] and it seems to have froze [16:21] i suppose thats an unupdated/upgraded install [16:21] so I switched it off and was gonna look at it during my Nite Surfer time to perform updates etc but I fell asleep :( [16:22] lol [16:22] well boot iand we run a file system chaeck [16:22] hey Kilos [16:23] I am wondering if I should re-image it but I doubt its gonna work with 14.04 [16:23] whew typos [16:23] what release is installed? [16:23] 12.04 [16:23] still supported but 14.04 is better methinks [16:24] remember I had issues with any version above 12.04 [16:24] and no heavier [16:24] could never get it to install [16:24] maybe 14.04 will be different I can give it a try [16:24] hmm... i dont rermember but any way [16:26] ok I have not downloaded Lubuntu 14.04 on Ubuntu 14.04 wondering if 512MB ram is enough for Ubuntu... I doubt it [16:26] *only [16:27] it might install but will be slow [16:28] ok hang on let me move this laptop into the room with the desktop we can mess around with it and maybe fix any issues that might be existing. I think tonight during Nite Surfer time I will update it and maybe download Lubuntu 14.04 [16:28] even xubuntu is lighter [16:28] lighter than L? [16:29] xubuntu much faster than unity [16:29] no l is lightest [16:31] ok and it works fine with regards to performance on the desktop so will leave it as is until I can upgrade or maybe change the laptop OS but I was going to but if clients need me to have a win machine then I would be in a bit of a pickle since I do not even have a copy of any version of win [16:31] all it needs is more ram [16:32] 2g would be ideal [16:32] yep I have 2 slots on the desktop and both filled with 256MB [16:32] ddr? [16:32] or ddr2 [16:33] hmm... DDR I think I will have to double check [16:33] ai! [16:33] ok let me go get a snack or maybe even dinner then we can start playing around with Lubuntu [16:34] i struggled to get ddr for my other pc [16:34] ah ok so you guessing it won't be easy to upgrade? [16:35] its cool it serves the purpose for now [16:35] it is available at pc repair shops but they charge more than for ddr3 the swines [16:35] lol [16:35] typical [16:35] always ripping people off [16:36] i have a couple of 500mb cards here [16:36] ok brb [16:36] need full particulars of the cards though, im not sure which are which [17:05] evening folks [18:13] hey kbmonkey [18:29] hi kbmonkey [18:30] ohi [18:48] back [19:06] Kilos: you off to bed? [19:06] nearly [19:07] maybe 30 mins [19:07] ah ok do you think I should re-image this Lubuntu machine or how can I check if all is well but if this will take a while then we can do it tomorrow [19:08] cause I was doing nothing on it and it was like it was frozen just now so had to reset machine [19:10] ok where are all the package updates stored so if I do re-install then I don't have to use up data again for updates? [19:11] you have a stick to save them to?? [19:11] yep [19:12] sudo rsync -ac /var/cache/apt/archives/ /media/ stick/ folder/ [19:12] after archives/ thats the path to the folder on the stick [19:13] sorry sorry -av [19:13] ok yhis command I run to save the updates to stick or update the machine after re-install? [19:13] sudo rsync -av /var/cache/apt/archives/ /path to folder on stick/ [19:13] *this [19:14] \you reverse the command then do sudo apt-get update and it will see what you have [19:15] but there will most likely be a lot of upgrades because you months behind [19:15] years actually [19:15] so anything up to about 400m [19:16] ok cool but still not sure if I should reload or just perform updates tonight and maybe look at it tomorrow for any issues etc [19:17] well does it boot? [19:17] yep but it like suddenly just does not respond without me touching it [19:17] if it boots then run sudo apt-get update [19:18] was it ever updated/upgraded [19:18] yep it was [19:18] update sees whats available [19:18] upgrade fetches the packages [19:19] so update hardly ever more than 20m [19:19] ohi superfly [19:19] ok I will do the updates tonight i.e. during Nite Surfer time [19:19] then tomorrow we can test and make sure all is well [19:19] ok run this now lets see if we can sort the prob now [19:20] sudo touch /forcefsck then reboot [19:21] ok its rebooting now [19:21] should be stable after running that [19:22] thats a filesystem check [19:22] ok cool and if anything was wrong it would have told me correct? [19:22] cause its now at login screen [19:22] then its sorted [19:22] do you have aptitude installed? [19:23] ok cool then I will perform updates later [19:23] aptitude I think I might let me check [19:23] Private_User do you have aptitude installed [19:23] sudo apt-get install aptitude [19:24] then here are your update commands [19:24] sudo apt-get update [19:24] sudo aptitude upgrade [19:25] ok how would I confirm if its installed Synaptic Package Manager? [19:25] aptitude does kernels and all else where apt-get dont do the kernel stuff [19:26] ok cool I will run these commands after 00:00 cause I assume its gonna get them from the repositories [19:26] it will be marked green in synaptic [19:26] ah there is a tick [19:26] cool [19:26] installed version 0.6.6-1ubuntu1.2 [19:27] so there are your commands [19:27] aptitude dont worry about versions it always works [19:27] ok cool I will run them [19:28] it also tells you if it sees p[robs and lets you choose what it suggests as solutions [19:28] i always trust aptitude [19:28] Kilos, thanks for that rsync command. Am using it now to backup my archives... [19:28] :) [19:28] PS. Hi all [19:28] ok cool [19:28] haha you welcome captine [19:29] Kilos, I am wiping my ubuntu machine and loading osx on it to lend it to someone as a test for a couple days. [19:29] back to my acer with ubuntu on it... [19:29] :) [19:29] rsync has saved me tons of data [19:32] i actually make a storage partition at the end of the drive and rsync to there [19:32] much faster than to a stick [19:38] captine if youve used apt-get clean or auto clean there wont be mouch in the archives [19:38] much [19:39] also one needs to tell synaptic in the beginning to keep all archives [19:40] never used that [19:41] i dont mind re-downloading... jsut takes long. i was running an apt-cache server which was GREAT. any machine would get it's downloads from that, at 20MB/s [19:41] if it was cached [19:41] cool [19:45] kilos, think you were 100% correct. not many files left in my local archives folder.... darn [19:45] oh well. will be a big download. [19:45] just need to backup the installs I have so i can quickly re-install everything [19:46] haha if you dont tell synaptic to save them then it throws some away on its own [19:47] am hoping to get 2 IBM 2U's and an old Novel based server for home. will then have a decent proxy running to store all this stuff.... old machines, but will be fun to do all this storage stuff [19:47] also when using apt-get to install a package it tells you that some other package isnt needed anymore run apt-get clean to remove it and it clears out your archives [19:47] that is one of the reasons i use aptitude [19:48] that would be nice [19:48] if you got no cap then you can get the whole repo when you sleeping [19:49] night all. sleep tight
