valorie | if so, good show | 05:43 |
tsimpson | valorie: yeah, (except it's s/b/d/) | 05:44 |
tsimpson | I've noticed them a few times now | 05:45 |

valorie | there is a mini-iso though | 06:14 |
valorie | I'm sure that fits on a CD | 06:14 |
bazhang | thats odd then, a user is claiming to be booting off a live cd | 06:16 |

valorie | at least they did at the linuxfest where i was burning DVDs | 06:21 |
valorie | luvs2spooge, what a charming nick | 06:21 |

bazhang | kewl | 17:12 |
DJones | More to the point, why are people searching for ebooks in #ubuntu rather than on undernet | 17:13 |
phunyguy | probably lost track of what channel/server they were on | 17:13 |
bazhang | and how did DJones know that was an ebook | 17:13 |
DJones | yep, seen it done before | 17:13 |
phunyguy | ^ | 17:13 |

Pici | I've always figured that people just hear that warez can be found on IRC, and they just install and open up their IRC client (which joins #ubuntu by default) and then they go nuts | 17:14 |
phunyguy | Pici, that sounds very possible. | 17:14 |
phunyguy | they googled it and found a few commands, etc | 17:14 |
bazhang | the whole internet is full of that stuff, and they come to irc? | 17:14 |
phunyguy | yeah well they watch NCIS and figured that if they want to stay hidden, IRC is the place... so they go in a publicly logged channel and go nuts. | 17:15 |
phunyguy | :) | 17:15 |
bazhang | with root as ident | 17:15 |
Pici | well, they're savvy enough to use Linux | 17:16 |
DJones | Wonder if their ip address resolves to a .it domain, that'd be the typical case | 17:16 |
DJones | Ah no, comcast | 17:17 |
ubottu | handsomejack called the ops in #ubuntu (Jesus caused 911) | 18:24 |
phunyguy | Anyone who can drive the bot... we should probably add the new ops to the bot triggers as well... | 18:54 |
genii | Jordan_U: I was going to also mention that, about partition type doesn't necessarily have anything to do with filesystem :) I know a guy who actually likes to mkfs on raw disk without partitioning, suprisingly it works but can't automount. | 19:59 |
genii | Looks like there is some sex spammer making the circuit of channels, keep an eye out for username topangoa | 20:14 |
phunyguy | and that will work. I ran into issues though for example when using raw devices as raid members. I repurposed those disks on another server without wiping that data, created new partitions, and formatted them. About 6 months later I installed mdadm on that box, which picked up the RAID metadata, and wiped the drives. | 20:14 |
phunyguy | made me MAAAAAAD | 20:14 |
Jordan_U | phunyguy: 0.9 metadata version? | 20:15 |
phunyguy | not sure.... it was a couple years ago. Maybe 4 years? | 20:15 |
phunyguy | but the point is, the metadata was at a disk level instead of partition level | 20:15 |
phunyguy | I would never recommend doing it that way to anyone | 20:15 |
Jordan_U | phunyguy: It's fun that with metadata version 0.9 it's sometimes literally impossible to tell if the metadata refers to the whole device, or just the last partition on the device. | 20:16 |
phunyguy | fun?? | 20:16 |
phunyguy | FUN?!?!? | 20:16 |
phunyguy | lol I lost years worth of pictures | 20:16 |
phunyguy | :( | 20:16 |
Jordan_U | :( | 20:17 |
phunyguy | luckily I found a DVD backup of the most important part... the early years with the kid. | 20:17 |
phunyguy | but in the 2 months it took me to stumble across it, I was in the doghouse with my wife. | 20:17 |
Jordan_U | phunyguy: Ouch, yeah. Definitely don't want to lose those. | 20:17 |

Pici | phunyguy: I think I banned them yesterday | 20:42 |
Pici | well, with a 24 hour duration | 20:42 |
Jordan_U | Pici: Indeed you did, I was just about to ask about that :) | 20:42 |
Jordan_U | Google translate also tells me that the first thing they said when they entered the channel was "I am banned". | 20:42 |
phunyguy | ubuntu___ (~ubuntu@ubuntu-trusty.cern.ch) has joined <--- interesting hostmask/username combo | 20:44 |
phunyguy | Pici, ahh ok | 20:44 |
phunyguy | Pici, I should look at BT more often | 20:44 |
Pici | they had a similar nick | 20:44 |
phunyguy | they are about to get another 24 hours | 20:44 |
Pricey | phunyguy: Give me a new list and I'll make the edit. | 20:57 |
ubottu | In #ubuntu, SergioAD said: ubottu: it is not coise for me :D | 21:18 |
ikonia | 7 | 21:29 |
ikonia | oops | 21:29 |
phunyguy | Pricey, I am not sure on the ops... I spose I could dig up the access list for the channels I am an op in now. | 22:07 |
phunyguy | maybe I can't... I guess I don't have access to view the channel access lists. | 22:15 |
Unit193 | phunyguy: /msg chanserv access #ubuntu list doesn't work for you? | 22:15 |
phunyguy | nope | 22:16 |
phunyguy | well not in -offtopic anyway | 22:16 |
phunyguy | not in #ubuntu either | 22:16 |
Pricey | phunyguy: what's the response? | 22:17 |
phunyguy | I shouldn't need to op up to see that, right? I have a test channel that it works in without op | 22:17 |
phunyguy | Pricey, no response at all | 22:17 |
Unit193 | Works for me. >_> | 22:17 |
phunyguy | Unit193, I even copied and pasted your command | 22:17 |
Pricey | phunyguy: I'm pretty sure we haven't got services ignoring you. It'll be appearing somewhere... server status window, another private window? | 22:19 |
phunyguy | nowhere | 22:19 |
phunyguy | wait, I did get a permission denied, you are not an IRC operator error, but not on the more frequent attempts | 22:19 |
phunyguy | that was in the server buffer | 22:19 |
phunyguy | (from 7 minutes ago) | 22:20 |
Pricey | You're +A so I don't see why you'd get that error on #ubuntu. | 22:26 |
Pricey | phunyguy: You're typing exactly "/msg chanserv access #ubuntu list" ? | 22:26 |
phunyguy | Pricey, yes | 22:27 |
Pricey | And getting permission denied? | 22:28 |
phunyguy | not getting anything currently | 22:28 |
phunyguy | not sure what exactly triggered the permission denied | 22:28 |
phunyguy | I tried various commands to get it again but I didn't get any | 22:28 |
Pricey | phunyguy: I imagine it's your client being silly. | 22:28 |
phunyguy | Pricey, it works in my test channel | 22:29 |
Pricey | I'd get that fixed. | 22:29 |
phunyguy | just not the #ubuntu namespace | 22:29 |
Pricey | phunyguy: /msg's & /notices aren't in channels. | 22:29 |
phunyguy | yes but I can list the access list in my channel | 22:29 |
phunyguy | ...for my channel | 22:29 |
phunyguy | loading up a different client | 22:30 |
Pricey | "in your channel"? do you mean while viewing your channel's window/tab in your client? | 22:30 |
Pricey | Creating a new query window for chanserv and trying again might help too. | 22:31 |
phunyguy | :-/ no go there | 22:32 |
Unit193 | phunyguy: http://paste.openstack.org/show/XUjRtsVSRC8MQSNnuO4a well there's #ubuntu at least. | 22:33 |
phunyguy | thanks Unit193 | 22:33 |
phunyguy | Pricey, ^^^ | 22:33 |
phunyguy | there's one... | 22:33 |
ImQ009 | Hello. I have been just banned from #ubuntu for being a derp and laughing at a friend of mine by saying "faget" as soon as I join. | 23:08 |
Jordan_U | ImQ009: Hi. | 23:09 |
ImQ009 | Durr. Joined* May I kindly ask for the ban to be lifted? | 23:09 |
ImQ009 | I didn't think such a silly thing would be taken so seriously and so quickly, without even a word | 23:10 |
Jordan_U | ImQ009: As you can hopefully understand, we don't appreciate homophobic slurs in #ubuntu. | 23:10 |
ImQ009 | If that offends you, then I'm sorry | 23:10 |
phunyguy | s/you/anyone/ | 23:10 |
ImQ009 | Jordan_U, The misspelling of that word was intentional and in my opinion it doesn't even have the same meaning as proper word :P | 23:11 |
phunyguy | ImQ009, it totally does do anyone that reads it., | 23:11 |
Jordan_U | ImQ009: Hopefully you now understand that homophobic slurs are offensive, no matter how you spell them. Correct? | 23:13 |
ImQ009 | I have always understood that. I just wasn't execting it to be taken so seriously | 23:14 |
ImQ009 | Especially in such an ironic way. Again, I'm sorry :P | 23:14 |
ImQ009 | I do have a weird sense of humour, can't help that | 23:15 |
ImQ009 | That aside, I am able to behave as a normal person if it's required | 23:15 |
Jordan_U | ImQ009: Well you can help your future behavior in #ubuntu hopefully, correct? | 23:15 |
ImQ009 | Jordan_U, As I said, yes | 23:16 |
Jordan_U | ImQ009: Great. Here is a link to our channel guidelines: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Guidelines please read them, and if after reading them you agree to follow them, I will remove the ban. | 23:17 |
ImQ009 | Jordan_U, I agree to respect and follow the guidelines. | 23:20 |
Jordan_U | ImQ009: You should now be able to re-join #ubuntu. | 23:21 |
ImQ009 | Thank you. And again, I'm sorry for the trouble | 23:22 |
