[01:00] hi all, i need some help [01:01] anyone out there??? [01:02] pangaea_: just ask [01:03] cool ty [01:05] so new to ubuntu, chose studio cause i write music, sick of magix, anyway jack has me totally lost, here's my delema ...jackxalsaxstudio, can't seem to tie in to get usb mic running [01:05] !proaudio [01:05] For information on professional audio tools in Ubuntu, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/ProAudioIntro [01:05] pangaea_: what are you trying to do? maybe you dont need jack [01:06] meai'm in adour and can't get mic [01:06] pulse audio has nice routing features [01:06] maybe you dont need ardour [01:06] pangaea_: do you need the mic in ardour? what are you trying to do? [01:06] jack is not trivial.. [01:07] record acoustic [01:07] i can lay down with audacity but no plug ins like drums....etc [01:08] pangaea_: you can "laydown" with audacity, and export to ardour, then [01:08] pangaea_: at your current level of config and skill [01:08] otherwise, just start learning jack [01:08] you can visit #opensourcemusicians [01:09] you basically use qjackctl to select the usb mic.. [01:09] in "setup".. there are a few drop down menus that will show your device, hopefully [01:09] pangaea_: you are able to use jack with your other device? not the mic? [01:10] just audicity, i have a pro mic samson [01:11] pangaea_: ok [01:11] pangaea_: i suggest this.. unplug that mic [01:11] i am copy and pasting advice to notes btw, [01:11] pangaea_: get used to jack, with i much simpler setup [01:11] pangaea_: dont try and record *anything*. just get jack running, on your internal audio device.. and play something from something simple like audacious [01:12] then, start ardour, and play something.. *then* record something into ardour.. *anything*... just not that mic yet [01:12] *then* after you got all that working, and stable, you can move on to the USB device.. and juggling the 2 devices in JACK [01:12] youll want to stop jack each time, and reconfigure for the usb mic, or the audio device you want to use for a monitor [01:13] you'll stop jack and all the jack apps close, and reopen [01:13] so jack is app dependent, [01:13] pangaea_: no [01:13] pangaea_: the apps that use jack use jack. when jack goes away for configuration, or stops, they are not using jack anymore.. they just sit there [01:14] pangaea_: you'll be thinking its broken, and wondering why things arent working.. but, its just fine [01:14] what i meant was jack has instances per app [01:14] you have to restart them [01:14] pangaea_: jack is just a server of sorts [01:14] ahhhh [01:14] pangaea_: each app can connect to jack [01:15] so think of it as float not an actual app [01:15] right.. jack is more like pulse, or alsa in that sense [01:15] ok [01:15] if alsa crashed, you might have to restart the web browser for example [01:15] man thanks your awesome!!!!! [01:15] been there [01:16] killed my hdmi input [01:16] pangaea_: well, lets get you making music, and we'll celebrate [01:16] ok so one last question [01:16] ok [01:16] what is the name of the jack i need to open when config, there is like 4 loaded by default [01:17] pangaea_: qjackctl is what i use [01:17] let me see if it's there [01:17] pangaea_: there are other tools, but they are newer, and i havent used them much [01:18] the folks in #opensourcemusicians would know.. carla, or whatever [01:19] got it, ok man thanks for pointing me in the right direction, i'm pretty good at production, magix, frooty loops, audacity, but adour looks like the way to go [01:19] pangaea_: it really is worth the investement of time [01:19] as far as plug ins midi? you agree or...... [01:19] pangaea_: you mean, instrument? [01:20] pangaea_: nothing about linux or ubuntu is preventing anyone from releasing any instruments for the platform [01:20] yeah, drum kits, bass synth....the ins [01:20] pangaea_: there are lots of nice open source options, as well as native linux commercial options [01:20] not sure if you will get your specific needs met or not [01:21] anyways, the folks in #opensourcemusicians do more of that. i do mostly acoustic [01:21] i can do everything in magix, but tired of my recources getting killed by that dirty operating system [01:21] ok.. i gotta run.. but, please let us know how you get on with it.. [01:21] ty ty ty ty [01:21] pangaea_: cheers and good luck === tsimpson_ is now known as tsimpson [05:55] hi [12:13] hi every1 , my software updater today is including a patch called "get hot new stuff v3 library for kde platoform" , and i read its about sharing cababilities for kde applications. Still im using ubuntustudio 13.10 with xfce? i suppose , will i break something if i dont apply this patch ? im concerned about privacy (not that i have any problem , just in theory) [12:14] same goes for "kross ui library" [12:15] actually i can see i have alot of kde updates [12:15] yorwos why not just install kubuntu and then add the studio metapackages [12:15] yorwos: Some of the applications we distribute are KDE apps, and use KDE libs, so that is probably why [12:16] I think you should look at what that is, before you decide for yourself, and if you find it useful [12:27] um no ty i dont plan to install kubuntu cause atm everything is so smooth with no problems [12:27] ive tried studio 13.17 and another one but i didnt like em so much [12:28] this is my current setup screenshot [12:28] http://imgur.com/XfrWvJG [12:29] im using almost all audio/graphics programs that came along with ubuntustudio [12:29] im both a photographer and musician [12:30] yorwos you seem to be missing a couple of very cool wallpapers I worked on :) https://www.dropbox.com/sh/u77q82df1j0mw9g/AADsbkJnA6m_nzriQu1E4JMMa [12:30] let me check em :D [12:32] they r nice [12:32] the bottom reflection on the red-orange-yellow is nice [12:33] u could try change the colors to RGB or CMY for the graphic intention; [12:34] but it looks nice this way dunno :) [12:34] i dont like the ubuntu logo [12:35] i liked the penguin of linux though a lot [12:35] yorwos see the entire collection then: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4ezsdk951znw5p3/AACj4Tsde6zNSQphzd8qD4o_a [12:35] im on 2it :D [12:36] oh they r cool i meant the main logo [12:36] the labyrinth circle [12:37] yorwos shitsukesens has a nice blue logo [12:37] with the firestars yea [12:37] fireworks* [12:37] basically [12:37] im making my own logo [12:38] and i dont like it a lot [12:38] and i look at other logos now and i like no1 of them [12:39] this is my logo in the bottom right corner made with blender https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfEtJ0FC67E [12:39] yorwos OK you asked for it ... https://www.dropbox.com/sh/i2he7yyy1y5alfs/AADnmEuEXX3Hqo2uPZFBl6Q6a [12:40] the 1 with the fire is awsome [12:40] yorwos waiting for your work now ... [12:43] 13.10 studio [12:45] yorwos I know it's a hidden .xfce4 / backgrounds folder - somewhere ... [12:45] what do u think of my logo ? i think it needs more detail on the circle around my firm name ? what do u suggest ? [12:46] um ill try #blender or something [12:48] got it L:D [20:27] so linux limits nice priorities, or it's actually a relation to proce schedualling time? [20:30] if it's not a software limit/govenor, then the speed of the system, heavily influences time spent on schedualing...there still must be something in linux that is configurable, to decrease the time spent schedualing things?
