The problem is that when I run the application, seems to have problems because the window takes as a background the window under the IDE. You can check it here → http://i.imgur.com/aRP1yv9.png I purged and reinstalled the package but I still have the problem.  A guy from #qt-creator said that it could be a OpenGL issue, and he red06:13

BluesKajparadoxajd, you can find the kubuntu themes in kmenu>computer>system settings>workspace appearance>window decorations>desktop theme10:23
paradoxajdi have found one and installed10:23
paradoxajdblueskaj, how to use it now10:24

paradoxajdits not shown there10:25
paradoxajdi can only see default ones10:26
BluesKajparadoxajd, where did you find the theme ?10:26
paradoxajdthere is "get new themes..." button under desktop theme list10:26
BluesKajit should be listed in the desktop themes list10:29
paradoxajdi even tried reseting pc10:29
BluesKajdid you click the install button in get themes?10:30

paradoxajdnow i see "unistall" button near that theme10:30
BluesKajclose system settings and reopen it10:31

BluesKajsome themes appear to install but don't, I've seen that before, try a different one10:32

BluesKajparadoxajd, which kubuntu version?10:34

BluesKajthemes are hit and miss in a lot of cases, some aren't tested and they don't work, others do10:36
paradoxajdeh, okay10:36
paradoxajdi'll probablly stick to default air10:36
paradoxajdjust wanted to test those osx like10:36
paradoxajdthanks for help tho10:36
BluesKajparadoxajd, yeah , mack OS10 doesn't show up in the list here either10:39
paradoxajdtoo bad10:39
gmangot bored of splash screen, but can't change it. systemsettings->workspace appearance->splash screen doesn't work. I can select a different splash, test it ok, but applying it is ignored on logout or reboot and splash defaults to my old splash. I've emptied /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER and aplsh screen is still not applied. Any idea?10:40
BluesKajnot a mac fan so it's no problem, just testing10:40
BluesKajgman, have you tied applying one from your pics folder?10:42
gmanBluesKaj: no. I downloaded themes and modified into new themes some of them. But whichever I choose, it's not applied10:43
gmanblueskaj, themes are into /home/user/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/theme10:44
paradoxajdi have one more question10:44
paradoxajdcan i make shortcut to mimic runnig command "application launcher menu" from app launcher10:45
BluesKajgman, does the test theme option work?10:47
gmanblueskaj, test works fine on all my installed themes10:47
BluesKajparadoxajd, do you mean krunner (alt+F2) ?10:48
paradoxajdyes10:48
paradoxajdi want to bind application launcher menu (traditional menu)10:48
paradoxajdwith alt+f110:48
BluesKajparadoxajd, sorry I don't know, you could try keyboard mapping , something I seldom try10:50
paradoxajdno problem, i will find the way10:51
paradoxajdthanks anyway10:51
BluesKajparadoxajd, but right clicking on the desktop>"run command " works for me10:52
paradoxajdvia run command works for me to10:53
paradoxajdbut i need keyboard shortcut10:53
BluesKajalt+F210:54
paradoxajdi know10:54
paradoxajdbut i want menu with out typing it10:55
BluesKajis the KB defaultr shortcut, then why not use that?10:55
BluesKajgood luck10:55
Anpukgpg or kleopatra? whats the difference, which is preffered?10:56
gmanthe fact splash screen theme changes are ignored seems similar to certain desktop icon themes that are also ignored ...has anyone experienced this sort of problem?10:57
BluesKajgman, yes quite a lot actually, some appear to install, but don't work, even if they are listed11:00
BluesKajthe theme install needs updating11:01
BluesKajfor splash and login as well as desktop11:02
gmanthe thing is I am pretty sure these themes used to work...I mean the default splash was shipped with kubuntu 14.04, I installed a different and have been using a different one, but now, I can't return to default one. What did I do to break that?...absolutely no idea:-/11:02
BluesKajme neither. gman :\11:03
gmanok, will try deleting some theme, restart, then reinstall and see if that's applied on logout again11:04
=== ikonia_ is now known as ikonia
gmanBlueskaj, I deleted my splash in use and got a black screen on reboot. Installed a new splash theme and applied it, but still got a black screen on logout. Then I reinstalled my old splash and it gotapplied on logout. There must be a file somewhere, telling kde to use that specific theme! a file systemsettings does not manage to update...11:37
BluesKajgman, /usr/share/kde4/apps/ksplash/Themes/11:54
gmanthis folder only holds themes11:57
BluesKajhave you tried adding one ?12:00
=== Golden_Dawn is now known as Dr_No
gmanI've just tried that and again, the old splash screen is used, not a different one12:15
gmanI had a feeling it could be a permission thing, but doing sudo systemsettings didn't change a thing, and then "sudo chown -R gman:gman /home/gman/.kde" did not help systemsettings at changing ksplash theme12:20
gmangoogle is of no help at finding a similar issue either.12:20
gmanand now my eyes keeps on noticing these glitches (including the desktop icons that are partially applied)12:21
BluesKajwell I'm on 14.10 and the new splash that I installed is working12:27
gmancould the source of the problem be:12:45
gmangman@ThinkPad:~$ kcmshell4 ksplashthememgr12:45
gmanBus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.12:45
lordievadergman: ibus is an ime, it has nothing to do with the splash screen.12:51
gmanmaybe it's through ibus that a config file gets updated with the new chosen splash screen12:52
gmansome other part of kde in charge of implementing this update may not be notified...am I versing in illusions?12:53
lordievadergman: No. Ibus has nothing to do with either plymouth or kde's splash screen.12:54
gmanok. any idea where ksplash picks on the right theme name upon logging in?12:56
BluesKajpersonally this is really not important, a splash screen doesn't affect the OS one iota, hence the lack of attention by the devs12:56
gmanyeah, true12:57
gmanit's just for the experience12:57
BluesKajI just live with it , there far worse problems to be concerned about12:58
lordievadergman: System Settings -> Workspace Appearance -> Splash Screen.12:58
gmanand it's terribly annoying to have this DE scattered accross so many parts/modules/servers, that's almost impossible to do something as simple as changing a splash screen12:58
gmansame with desktop icons: any theme I apply, I always get have of my icons stuck on the default theme12:58
gmanthis looks ugly12:58
gmanlordievader, I know of this path, but any theme chosen in there is not applied12:59
lordievaderHmm, last time I customized that it work flawlessly, can't remember if I had the reboot.13:01
gmanlordievader, same ignored settings in Worspace appearance->Desktop Themes, the icons part in there is ignored, and I am using the standard kubuntu 140413:03
gmanThis kubuntu install is starting to piss me off seriously. Cause here it's about UI glitches, but the hardware is also not recognised as it should: bluetooth was a nightmare to settup properly when in previous mint version it worked just fine, audio is also very messy, and the list goes on13:06
gmanand 14.04 is supposed to be "stable"?! it can't even implement decades old technologies properly13:07
gmanIt's end of week, I think I'll use my time on installing some more user-centric OS13:08
gmanSo that I could actually do stuff on my computer instead of wasting my time on setting up stuff13:09
BluesKajgman, have you updated, upgraded and distupgraded since installing ?13:11
BluesKajif not, do so13:12
gmanno. I've only applied the updates as they came in. I don't even have installed an external ppa. Since trying out kubuntu 14.04, I've been a very basic user with it.13:13
gmannothing fancy13:14

ubottuThe Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want.  The installer is text based (rather than graphical as used on the Desktop DVD). lordievaderBluesKaj: Sure "/query ubottu" perhaps with a network if you have multiple.17:25
BluesKajlordievader, ??17:27

CharlieTheCabbieGood evening :)  I need some help if someone is about please.  I have a machine with Kubuntu installed, which I am trying to upgrade.  It looks like the last version was something called Quantal.  When I try to upgrade, everything is telling me that the configuration is broken, and I have no idea how to fix it.20:22
lordievaderCharlieTheCabbie: That may have to do with Quantal being end of life.20:27
CharlieTheCabbiesurely if it had hit EOL, wouldn't the logical thing be to upgrade it???20:28
CharlieTheCabbieor are you only allowed a certain timeframe after EOL to do that?20:29
lordievaderTrue, however the problem may also lie in the fact that its succesor 13.04 is also EOL.20:30
lordievaderI think the easiest is to grab a Trusty iso and go for a reinstall.20:30
CharlieTheCabbieI don't have a burner.20:30
CharlieTheCabbieBasic CD drive and that's it :(20:30
lordievaderCharlieTheCabbie: You don't need one, live-usb's are a life saver.20:31
CharlieTheCabbieI recall somewhere that you can download an ISO and mount it to install from rather than burn a physical copy20:31
bpromptCharlieTheCabbie:     you should be able to just burn the .iso to a usb stick and boot from it and install20:34
bpromptCharlieTheCabbie:    you can mount an iso at the console, yes  ->   sudo  mount  -t iso9660 -o loop  /path/to/your/file.iso    mountpointhere20:35
CharlieTheCabbie ok then, I'll give it a go.  I just wanted to get it done asap, but with the distro being EOL and it's successor also being EOL, that slightly screws me a little.20:35
CharlieTheCabbieexcellent!  Will that kick in on boot?20:35
bpromptCharlieTheCabbie:   mounting a filesystem simply gives access to that filesystem/device, is all20:36
bpromptdoesn't make it boot or anything else20:36
CharlieTheCabbiefiretruck.  So I can't mount it, then use it to boot from on the next restart... I was hoping to mount, and install directly from it.20:36
bpromptbut you can just burn the .iso to a usb stick, say 2gbs or bigger, since the 14.04 iso is about 1gb in size20:36
bpromptCharlieTheCabbie:    the bootable usb stick does all that20:37
CharlieTheCabbieI'll have to look for instructions on that then. I've only ever burned to a CD in the past, before my writer did the trip to silicon heaven.20:38
CharlieTheCabbieNever burned an ISO to USB at all. Never had to...20:39
bpromptCharlieTheCabbie:    nothing fancy schmanzy really, grab .iso, write the image using... who knows "dd" or something else... and boot, is all20:39
bpromptyou can burn it with "dd"    easy.... ->  sudo dd if=/path/to/your/file.iso    of=/dev/yourdevicehere20:40
CharlieTheCabbiegotcha.  I thought I'd have to use a burning prog, something like k3b20:41
CharlieTheCabbieThat makes it much easier20:41
bpromptsay your usb shows  up as    /dev/sdb    then sudo dd if=/path/to/file.iso of=/dev/sdb    <--- no numbers, noticd that no sdb1 or sdb0 or sdb2 or whatever partitoin else, just the raw device address20:41
CharlieTheCabbieI'll copy that command over now, and go grab my 4GB from upstairs.  I#ll be upgraded before you can recite hamlet in bulgarian.20:42
bpromptif you need to check what the usb device is mapped to, just do a ->   sudo fdisk -l20:42
CharlieTheCabbieone more question, quickly, where do I get the ISO from?20:42
lordievaderCharlieTheCabbie: Or you can use a tool like unetbootin to write it for you to a usb stick.20:43
bpromptas I said, no numbers, that is, no partition number like sdb1 or sdb2  or such... just the raw device   /dev/sdb   or whatever... if the device shows up in "fdisk" as say      /dev/sdc   then    --> sudo dd if=/path/to/file.iso of=/dev/sdc20:43
bpromptCharlieTheCabbie:    keep in mind that, usb 1.1 sticks take much longer to write than usb 2.0 sticks, fyi20:44
CharlieTheCabbiei think mine is a 2.020:45
CharlieTheCabbieanyway, I gotta go for a bit to get this done, or I will be here all night!  Be well, and I will see you back here (all being good) in about 2 hours or so.20:46
bpromptbut if you're running.... still a working version of 12.10   you could just    burn it using the "Startup Disk Creator"   or "k3b"20:46
CharlieTheCabbieI'll bear that in mind, but right now as I said, I'm off to get started :)  Or I will be here at midnight!20:47
