phillwmkdmz: have a read of http://lkubaski.wordpress.com/2012/10/29/understanding-file-associations-in-lxde-and-pcmanfm/00:08
mkdmzphillw: This seems to explain opening a file (which is what is my second priority), but nothing on getting a new mimetype to be identified with an svg and where to store the svg.00:13
mkdmzMy app doesn't at the time open files with system args, only through a open file dialog.  I will change that, but I would like to have my icon show up for my application files first.00:15
Tin_mani've a question, I installed KPatience from the package manager.  After the install, and verification of all files dependences, and such.  I went to the games menu, and clicked on Kpatience.  Nothing happened, I did an  uninstall, and repeated the process, same.00:22
Tin_mani went to the web and looked at some forums, and found that if i go to terminal, an type "kpat -caption % c" the game comes up just fine, i just hate to do that everytime.  It's my wifes machine.00:24
Tin_manany clues?00:24
leszekhi08:42
Tin_manI left a message yesterday, i ended up going to bed, so i'm not sure if anyone responed.13:40
Tin_manThe question was, I installed Kpatience thru the package installer, and it verfied the package,13:40
Tin_manand all the dependences.  It was installed in the games menu. clicked on it and13:40
Tin_mannothing!  I deleted it, re-installed, and got the same results.  I searched the13:40
Tin_manweb, and found a post that gave the instructions to enter at terminal {kpat -caption % c}13:40
Tin_manthat brought the game right up.. Does anyone know what needs to be done here, thats OK, but I'd13:40
Tin_manlike to access it from the menu. any help would be appreciated.13:40
MikaelaTin_man: install package "alacarte" and open "alacarte" with terminal and find the entry for kpatience and set the command as  that which works.14:15
MikaelaI don't have any other ideas, so if that doesn't work, someone else might be able to help.14:15
Tin_manthanks i'll see if i can figure it out from terminal, not to good at terminal yet, but I have a book :-)14:23
Tin_manhmmm, feel kinda dumb, but how do you open alacarte, i did a help alacarte and nothing was there for it..?14:27
bolloif it's not somewhere in the menu then open a terminal, type alacarte and press enter14:46
Tin_manok thanks15:03

mkdmzAnyone here created custom mimetypes?19:28
Mydim3mimetypes?19:29
mkdmzI have a bash script that launches my pygtk.  I have a custom document that I want to identify with an icon.  I've followed this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AddingMimeTypes, and http://lkubaski.wordpress.com/2012/10/29/understanding-file-associations-in-lxde-and-pcmanfm/ and this  https://developer.gnome.org/integration-guide/stable/mime.html.en19:30
mkdmzNothing is working except that I can double click on my icon and it launches, but I can't get the icon to show up, even after loggin in and out.19:31
mkdmzIn short, eveyting worked on those links, except the icon advice.  My custom Icon does not show up for my docuement.  Any ideas?19:31
Mydim3err19:36

Ahmuckupon login, this message comes up.  if i close it it comes up again.  every time it closes and re-opens it populates the system tray with a new set of icons.  after 10 of these i now have ten battery icons20:21
holsteinsounds like a power management issue with the hardware.. can you replicate this on a live CD? this would be an easy way to test "nomodeset" and other options from the F6 menu on the live CD20:22

hedgebassbonsoir camarades internautes.
Merci.21:38
hedgebasstrès bien, merci pour l'information. Have a good night ! ^^21:38
Ahmucknope, still broke21:43
mkdmzIs there anyone here who understands how to add icons for new mimetypes on Lubuntu?22:07
mkdmzThe online links are not helping.22:07
mkdmzLubuntu has created a non-intuitive and aggravating situation in this area, I hope someone actually know whats going on.22:08
phillwmkdmz: you had a reply from me. I' suggest you ask on the mailing list... lots of more people on there than 'live' on here https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop22:12
phillwget onto the mailing list :)22:13
mkdmzEww!  Why would anyone want to communicate that way?22:13
mkdmzMailing lists, what a interface assbackwards way to talk.22:13
mkdmzBut I suppose, if you think it really is where people will answer.22:14
phillwmkdmz: you have had that answered from the head of the art work team. As he has taken time out to answer you personally now makes me have have issues.22:14
phillwUnit193: do DE, you kicked him off... go sort.22:15
phillw*NO De,22:15
mkdmzphillw: Well I see a forum, is that linked with the mailing lists, do they all get the same converstations?22:19
mkdmzI prefer forums over mailing lists.22:20
phillwmkdmz: have a read of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/SubTeams22:20
mkdmzMailing lists are like long email conversations that attach every converstation in each reply, can't stand that.22:20
mkdmzI mean every reply is like the entire conversation in it.22:21
phillwmkdmz: as lubuntu are scattered accross the world, on different time zones, you have to accept it.22:21
mkdmzwell, I start learning cocoa on mailing list ironically on the platform that is the Interface King.22:23
phillwpcman, the guy behind pcmanfm, is a consultant surgeon in Taiewan... what hours will he keep? mkdmz but I assure you of one thing... If you were there and got run over, you'd hope for him and medicalwili to look after you..... You, LINUX IS RUN BY VOLUNTEERS, most of them more inttelligent than us :D22:25
mkdmzphillw: I can ask on the mailing list, I take your advice.  I will write all the command line stuff I do exactly so there is no assumptions.  But, in the case no one answers, could you point me to some way I could sent an email to a person who would know? This way if I could send them to the question to anyone following in my footsteps could also benefit.22:28
phillwmkdmz: trust me, you will get an answer.... If not in 48 hours, ping me on here and I'll go hunting. mkdmz there are 63 people on here and 756 active members on the email.... guess what is better :)22:32
mkdmzok phillw , thanks, I'm going to write up the question now.22:32
phillwubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net 22:33
DJ__hi. i am trying to install lubuntu-desktop but i keep getting Errors were encountered while processing:  /var/cache/apt/archives/lubuntu-default-settings_0.39_all.deb22:59
DJ__here is how it looks like when i try to install: http://pastebin.com/eRwHU8pS23:01
DJ__any ideas?23:01
=== DJ__ is now known as dj_beirut
ianorlindj_beirut: what version of lubuntu? also I can't see your paste23:16
dj_beirutianorlin it's not a lubuntu installation. it's xbmubuntu. i am just trying to install lubuntu-desktop23:23
dj_beirutianorlin here is the pastebin http://pastebin.com/i7jq6GbJ23:24
dj_beirutLinux MediaCenter 3.13.0-29-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 4 21:00:20 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux23:26
ianorlinxmbcbuntu isn't a supported flavor here I don't think and that is one of the things they added not letting you install lubuntu-default settings as it already has one of the file from lubuntu defualt settings23:35
dj_beirutianorlin can i overwrite that file?23:38
ianorlinyou could but why are you installing lubuntu-default settings onto a media center?23:39
dj_beirutianorlin because the machine i am using as a media center has so much power i would like to be able to login to it remotely and use it to other stuff than just media center. i was thinking of using x2go wich i use on my vps too23:48
