[01:49] i am trying to install mythbuntu but it wont install it starts and when it looks like it is about 90% done it hangs for a while and says it crashed and is going to send a error report [01:50] what version ? [01:51] just downloaded it yesterday from this website i think it is the newest [01:56] haven't tried the latest release yet ... [01:57] what kind of hardware is it ? [01:59] i have a intel i7 processor, 6 gigs ram, 2 tb seagate hard drive, happauge wintv 2250 card and a nvidia 8400gs graphic card [01:59] what kind of motherboard ? [02:01] a asus p6t [02:03] selecting vnc as part of the install options? [02:06] ive tried both ways [02:07] hmm [02:07] any detail provided ? ticket number or anything ? [02:08] FWIW, I had a similar "hang at the end of the installation", and it went away when I disabled the "Download updates during install" option. [02:08] It'll update later anyway. [02:12] i tried that also. it seemed to hang installing the nvidia drivers the last time [02:17] Ah. For me it was in "Configuring mythtv" and seemed to be an issue with mysqld. Sounds like a different issue. Sorry [03:38] after many tries i finally got mythbuntu installed. I didnt select any option that werent chosen for me during install. But now how do i get my hauppage wintv card to be recognized [03:39] it doesnt seem to see it. Im a beginner so baby steps if you can [03:46] can anyone help me get my hauppage card setup? [05:08] anyone still up [05:10] ok im out of here i will try tomorrow and see if anyone can help me get my card to work [16:55] I installed mythbuntu and after many trials i got it installed. I have 2 issues, 1 MYSQL doesnt seem to be working anytime i try to make changes in the backend it keeps giving me errors [16:56] 2 i need to get my hauppage 2250 card to work [16:56] Anyone feeling like they are up to a chalange today? [17:17] what do you mean mysql isn't working [18:06] i had a heck of a time getting mythbuntu to install i could only take all of the defaults when doing the install. If i tried to install the lir for my hauppage remote the installer would crash. if i tried to use nvidia drivers the installer would crash. i have it installed now but it doesnt see my hardware and keeps giving me mysql errors [18:07] when i try to configure the backend [18:07] 10:17 AM what do you mean mysql isn't working [18:07] I want to get my Hauppage 2250 wintv card to work and i want to get mysql to work the picture seems ok so maybe i dont need the nvidia drivers [18:08] those are 3 separate things [18:08] but i havent seen anything but the mythbuntu screens so once i can maybe i will need the nvidia drivers for my 8400gs 1 gig video card [18:09] i know i think i need to start with mysql [18:09] so it's not running? [18:09] 'sudo service mysql status' [18:09] do that [18:09] when i go into the backend it says disabled. i enable it but then i get a error saying it is shutting down the service [18:10] that doesn't make sense. Where does it say disabled [18:10] can you give me a screenshot? [18:11] not sure how to do that. i am a new linux user [18:12] i just restarted it so give me a minute to check it again [18:12] ok. lets start from the beginning [18:12] check it again [18:17] under mythbuntu control center says disable next to MySql service on ethernet interfaces [18:18] You are on 14.04 right? [18:18] have you run updates yet? [18:19] i am on the newest i havent run updates yet i didnt know how to do it [18:21] you can open a terminal and do "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" [18:23] ok its doing something [18:27] still going its doing a bunch of preparing and unpacking of files [18:30] its asking about samba server and utilities saying a new version of the configuration file /etc/samba/smb.conf is available and what i want to do with it [18:31] i can install, keep local version, show differences [18:36] should i choose install [18:40] i choose install and it seems to be done. now whats next [18:43] ok, now restart the Mythbuntu control center [18:44] ok i am back in it MySQL still says disable. do i need to reboot computer [18:44] well you should be able to enable it now [18:45] ok now what it is enabled [18:47] do i launch the mythtv setup? [18:47] not yet [18:47] first, open a terminal and do 'sudo service mysql restart' [18:48] ok its running it says process 1542 [18:49] ok, so I'm guessing there was never a problem with mysql, but now you can connect up other frontends to this machine if you want [18:49] and you can go forth with your setup [18:50] Do you know how i get it to see the hauppauge card. I have reinstyalled this so many times i dont want to mess it up again by doing the wrong thing [18:50] what card [18:51] hauppauge wintv-hvr-2250 [18:52] how are you setting it up in mythtv-setup [18:52] what type of card are you adding it as? [18:54] its not listed for me to select it the default seems to be under capture caard it defaults to dvb-t/s/c atsc [18:54] ok, do this [18:54] "sudo apt-get install pastebinit" [18:55] then run "dmesg | pastebinit" [18:55] then post the link it gives you [18:55] ok it completed [18:57] http://paste.ubuntu.com/7676200 [18:58] You are missing the firmware it seems [18:58] Lines 934-940 [18:59] ok i'll bite, how do i find it [19:00] I would think this still applies http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=942403&page=43&p=11205874#post11205874 [19:01] I've not used hauppauge devices in awhlie [19:01] and I don't recall ever having to deal with firmware [19:06] When I went through the mythbuntu installer, it gave me the option of an open source video driver or an nvidia one. Whats the easiest way to try the other one, post-install? [19:07] JohnQ: personally I use jockey-text, because I administer it all though SSH [19:08] Hmm. I'll take a look. thanks for the pointer. [19:10] Dont seem to have it installed. maybe ubuntu-drivers is the replacement? [19:11] JohnQ: do you have software sources? [19:11] yep [19:11] you should have an additional drivers tab in that [19:11] OK thanks [19:18] Interesting. Hard to tell if it worked or not. :-) [19:34] Before the install I was seeing occasional tearing in the video during high-speed sceens... but it seems better now. Its very hard to tell [19:35] OK... well for now, I'll just assume its better until proven otherwise. [19:38] Different question: Whenever I try to delete a video in myhhvideo, it says "failed to delete file". I've made sure that the files are delete-able by root, mythtv, and the user running the frontend... I dont see any error messages about it in /var/log/mythtv.. and I am not sure what else to try. [19:40] JohnQ: are they backend storage groups or frontend storage directories? [19:40] I have no idea. (Imnot clear on the difference... mostly I just tweaked the various path settings haphazardly until the videos showed up). How can I tell? [19:42] did you set up the directories in the frontend, or in mythtv-setup [19:42] Checking. [19:44] Must have been in the frontend. Only my recorded-tv directories are listed in the "Storage Directories" in myth-setup. [19:45] ok, your frontend user will need access to delete them then, and the logs would be in the frontend log I believe [19:46] drontend user does have access (su - john ; rm ... works).. [19:46] And nothing shows in the logs :-/ [19:48] I'll try switching them to backend directories and see if that helps. [20:09] Woah... curiouser and curiouser... I switched to a storage group, and I still get the error but now things show in the logs. When I delete file A in myth, I get an error in the logs that it couldnt delete file B. File B seems to be the file that is alphabetically first in that sorage dir. ... and it should have been able to delete file B if it had tried. (Glad it didnt) [20:14] Hah. Its a known bug. "Won't fix.": https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/11407 [20:15] Looks like im going to have to learn to live without "file browse mode"... :-( [20:35] i got myy mythtv up and running (Sort Of) i was watching COPS and it just locked up. Is there a way to fix this it is the first show i ever tried to watch on it [20:41] You sure the hardware you're running on is solid? I.e. no memory faiures, not overheating, not overclocked etc...? [21:30] Anyone know if there is a way to make the mythvideo scan skip symlinks? [21:42] Ugh how to people cope with the slow scan every time they add a new file? It took 6min 22 sec to "Scan for Changes" :-/ [21:49] And seems to crash mythfrontend on occasion... ick. [22:04] With a default mythbuntu install, is it safe to assume that mythbackend will be running before the rc.local is run on boot? [23:38] Wow... really strange. mythutil --scanvideos wont run from rc.local. It produces error messages and exits with code 130. Runs fine from command line. Weird.
