Guest70224hello, Im having troubles with the installation oh Kubuntu 14.04 with UEFI...... I created one efi partiotion of 250mb, then a / partiotion of 27000 mb, then a swap partition of 4096mb and the rest for my /home...... Im using an usb for my installation, the problem is on the boot...... I read about boot repair and I use it, Ive tried about 6 times doing a new clear installation but nothing.... now when I use boot repair it give this error  http://paste14:15
Guest70224.ubuntu.com/7736975/     Someone knows abput it?? Thanks14:15
alvinAt first glance, I don't see the problem. Did you write grub?14:45
alvinI'm using GPT/LUKS/LVM/EFI and it works. separate ext2 boot, efi partition, and the rest encrypted14:46
alvinCheck you BIOS for EFI boot.14:46
BluesKajalvin, he's long gone, and should use legacy mode rather than EFI if he already beleted windows14:49

Guest34509hi... I was here about 1 hour ago, asking for problems with the installation of 14.04 with EFI15:26
Guest34509someone read it?? Could someone helps me???15:27
BluesKajshould use legacy mode rather than EFI if you already deleted windows and reformatted15:28
BluesKajGuest34509,^15:28
Guest34509ok ok BluesKaj how could I install in legacy mode?? My bios allows me to use both at the same time (legacy and efi), so it always try to start first with EFI I think15:30
Guest34509When I press F9 to set the order boot, it show me My usb with and whitout UEFI in different lines, but if I press without UEFI it doesnt start15:31
Guest34509I have to press UEFI MODE15:32
BluesKajGuest34509, does uefi start the installer?15:33
Guest34509BluesKaj: yes I think so, because it show me 2 options, one of them is "USB TDK (UEFI)" and the other one  "USB TDK"15:37
Guest34509So, I HAVE TO press USB TDK UEFI15:37
Guest34509because the other one, doesnt work!!15:38
BluesKajdoes and then the usb boots into kubuntu15:38
Guest34509the option without UEFI just show me the kubuntu splash and then a black screen!!15:39
BluesKajok fine, but does UEFI boot into kubuntu installer ?15:40
Guest34509yes yes15:41
BluesKajUEFI mode does work on some machines and some not ,, it really doesn't matter as long as you can install kubuntu15:41
Guest34509my bios is like this...>>>>>  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/37429i3CEF3B6BCE6FF0AB/image-size/original?v=mpbl-1&px=-115:42
BluesKajGuest34509, don't worry about which mode, whichever mode works for your machine is what you should use.15:44
Guest34509Ive read that I could install in legacy mode without any problem because I'll have just kubuntu in my hdd but ....how can I choose which mode I use in my installation process??15:46
BluesKajGuest34509, I used legacy mode for windows 7 and kubuntu 14.04 installations15:47
Guest34509for example... if I use this command to verify how boots mi hdd >>>>> [ -d /sys/firmware/efi ] && echo "EFI boot on HDD" || echo "Legacy boot on HDD"15:47
Guest34509it said me EFI BOOT15:48
Guest34509and if i use this command to verify if my KUBUNTU INSTALLATION is in efi mode >>>>>> [ -d /sys/firmware/efi ] && echo "Installed in EFI mode" || echo "Installed in Legacy mode"15:49
Guest34509it show me EFI MODE15:49
Guest34509so.... NOW WHATS THE PROBLEM???15:50
BluesKajthen try booting in EFI mode, or legacy mode , which ever mode works , use that15:50
BluesKajI have some other things to do for an  hrs or so....BBL15:51
Guest34509ok thanks15:51
rberghmm I am finding that sshfs gets into a uninterruptible state and prevents my laptop from suspending.. does anybody know a workaround besides not using sshfs? :)16:18

lordievaderGood evening.16:53
rberglordievader: can you elaborate? do you mean I should unmount before sleeping my laptop?17:16
rbergohh 'umount -l'17:19
lordievaderrberg: Exactly ;)17:19
modernbobanyone know why there is no networking tool for kubuntu.17:51
lordievadermodernbob: What kind of networking tool are you targetting?17:52
modernboblordievader: I want a gui net tool  so I can set static ip....17:52
modernbobI know you can edit etc/network/interfaces but my settings are not working17:53
lordievadermodernbob: The networkmanager is capable of that, it's also pre-installed.17:53
modernboblordievader: where is it17:54
modernbobweird...   its there now.. must have been the update17:54
lordievadermodernbob: It comes with the kubuntu-desktop package. It is installed by default.17:55
modernboblordievader: thanks it works now..18:01
sithlord48i have a problem with samba server on my server.. on a reboot i have to login and restart the samba service before it works. anyone have this problem or better yet a solution for it ?18:40
=== kubuntu is now known as Guest92743
BluesKajsithlord48, well that's the nature of samba ,one has to login to the server. One solution is to set it up as a NFS server. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpNFSHowTo18:51
sithlord48BluesKaj:  i have nfs as well it works great.18:52
sithlord48BluesKaj:  its not that i have to login . i have to restart the service before it will work18:53
lordievadersithlord48: Why do you have to restart the smb service?18:59
sithlord48well my fellow dark lord of the sith, if i don't restart the service clients are not able to connect to the shares.18:59
sithlord48the service is running so trying to use "start" it just tells me its already running.19:00
lordievadersithlord48: Nmap the server to see if there is something listening to the smb port.19:02
sithlord48ill have to try that when i get back to the servers location .19:02
sithlord48lordievader:  the service is running on boot . it just dont allow connections.19:03
lordievadersithlord48: Hence the nmap check ;)19:04
rbergis it listening on its port before the restart?19:09
rbergI have had a similar issue with sickbeard, and I feel like its failing because I specified a ip to bind to and its attempting to bind before networkmanager loads and the system gets that ip19:11
rbergI added this to rc.local "(sleep 60 && service sickbeard start)&"  stoopid hack I know19:13
sithlord48rberg:  im not sure honestly because i have not checked that ..  it very well could be that the network is not up yet althought the machine is wired i may have to add similar to my rc.local19:15
georgelappieshow can I add google contacts to kontact?19:15
rbergI can t remember if the & goes in or outside the ) you may need to play with it19:16
sithlord48rberg:  yeah ill do just that.19:17
lordievaderrberg: Couldn't you let the sickbeard upstart script depend on NM?19:21
rberglordievader: yeah I should do that.. I just learned about writing upstart jobs.. super easy compared to old style init19:23
lordievaderToo bad we are moving to systemd...19:25
