hlblyhipyHope someon can help i have problems with ubuntustudio 14.04 display.Shortly after logging in my screen goes black or freezes. No mouse no keyboard and i have to shutdown and restart.Longest i can go is a few min19:26
hlblyhipymy graphics card is a radeon 3200 the documentation ive read says that the generic drivers should work, but apparently they dont.I've tried a few of the fixes i have found but as of yet to no avail.20:00
zequencehlblyhipy: Are you able to get a tty screen? Ctrl + Alt + F120:04
hlblyhipynot when it freezes20:05
hlblyhipywait whasts tty20:05
hlblyhipysorry im a totasl newbie20:05
hlblyhipyi have tried ctrl + Alt + F1 and cant access that20:07
Joseph___i so was sent over to this irc because the others couldnt figure out my problem20:17
zequencehlblyhipy: have you tried another Ubuntu flavor?20:19
Joseph___mint and it didnt work there either20:19
zequencehlblyhipy: The graphics are more or less equal on all Ubuntu flavors. Yes, we have our own kernel, but it doesn't differ when it comes to graphics20:20
zequenceJoseph___: Ah, sorry. I was talking to hlblyhipy still20:20
zequenceJoseph___: Sent from where? And, what kind of problem are you having?20:21
Joseph___ubuntu-us-tn20:21
Joseph___my sound is not working20:21
Joseph___i have a blue yeti mic and audio technica plugged into that20:22
zequenceJoseph___: Is this Ubuntu Studio?20:22
Joseph___no regular ubuntu20:22
zequenceJoseph___: Are you using jack?20:22
Joseph___no i a not20:23
Joseph___i am  not20:23
zequenceJoseph___: Have you seen this page? http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/12/how-to-set-up-blue-yeti-mic-in-ubuntu20:24
Joseph___already tried20:24
Joseph___the problem lies in that there is not yeti option20:25
zequenceJoseph___: Was reading the log in the previous channel. Thanks again, Unit19320:28
zequenceThanks20:29
zequenceer..20:29
Unit193Sure.20:29
Joseph___so any ideas20:29
zequenceJoseph___: Well, I've never heard of alsa mixer crashing on account of a sound card20:29
zequenceI assume you were using "alsamixer" in the terminal?20:30
Joseph___yes i was20:30
zequenceThis is really beyond what I can help with. I don't know pulseaudio very well (which is what is your desktop audio server). Pulseaudio uses alsa drivers, and it would seem your device has been supported for a number of yeard20:31
zequenceyears*20:31
Joseph___so is it best to scrap ubuntu and go to ubuntu studio?20:32
zequenceCould be pulseaudio is doing something strange. I really don't know. I would suggest asking about it on #pulseaudio20:32
zequenceUbuntu Studio has the same sound system, only it has a few settings for low latency, realtime audio, using the jack audio server20:32
zequenceSo, I don't think it would help you20:33
Joseph___ever since i installed linux i have had trouble. ethernet..audio..graphics20:33
zequenceThis person was having some problems too http://askubuntu.com/questions/306652/cant-select-blue-yeti-pro-usb-microphone-in-sound-settings-menu20:33
zequenceYou could make life easier for yourself on Linux if you made sure your hardware was fully supported before installing Linux20:35
zequenceMost manufactures have zero support for Linux, yet Linux supports probably more hardware than any other OS20:35
Joseph___im not sure what to do at this point20:36
zequenceIt doesn't always work perfectly, when the manufacturers themselves don't write their own drivers, or help develop the audio system20:36
zequenceYou could try disabling pulseaudio20:37
Joseph___how would i go about doing that20:37
zequenceJoseph___: In the file /etc/pulse/client.conf, set "autospawn" to "no"20:39
hlblyhipyi tried linux mint and the same thing happened.I forgot to mention the comp that is czausing me the headaches is a hp pavillion20:40
zequenceThen, either the command: pulseaudio -k20:40
zequence..or, reboot20:40
zequencehlblyhipy: Ok. In that case, since we only worry about the multimedia side of things (aside from bugs in our kernel), we can't be of much help there20:40
zequencehlblyhipy: You could ask on #ubuntu20:41
Joseph___didnt work20:41
hlblyhipyok thank you for taking the time.By the way I have ubuntustudio on a lenovo and it works great but the soundcard is better on the hp20:42
hlblyhipyill try over at ubuntu20:42
zequenceJoseph___: Give me the output of this command: cat /proc/asound/cards20:42
zequenceJoseph___: i have to go, but if you see your device there, alsa is working20:43
zequenceJoseph___: Or, at least, it would seemt to be working. And, in that case the problem is in pulseaudio20:44
zequenceJoseph___: I would reboot just to make sure things are clean20:44
zequenceOk, good luck20:44
Joseph___thanks20:44
Joseph___http://paste.debian.net/112525/ incase someone else is interested20:45
