After that firefox is not working from the launcher, from terminal it is working if I try as root.I have searched but could not find any solution12:35
singcatsfn: This is not the support channel for LXLE.12:38

indn1234hey quick question --> I made a bootable USB using the Startup Disk Creator in Ubuntu. Can I put personal stuff in the pen drive BEFORE installing the new ubuntu from it?17:03
wxlindn1234: honestly i'd never tried but it's worth a shot17:04
indn1234wxl: good enough for me,. gonna try it now.17:05
anarkhos|2ok17:11
anarkhos|2so... if the sound doesn't work out of the box on your acer aspire one ao751 computer, try this: echo "options snd-hda-intel model=acer" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf > /dev/null17:12
anarkhos|2somebody in the ubuntu channel suggested it, and after that single change, the sound works17:12
piratebootyWould someone be able to help me with a problem that I am having?18:43
wxl!ask | piratebooty18:44
ubottupiratebooty: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) See also !patience18:44
piratebootyoh, I'm sorry18:44
piratebootyI am using LXLE, which is a spin off of lubuntu. I have installed OpenVPN and am using that. The issue that I am having is, while I am connected to my OpenVPN server, I cannot access local resources via port forward. I am forwarding certain ports through my router to this machine. If I disconnect from the VPN, works fine. Just not while connected.18:46
piratebootyIs there a way to change that?18:46
wxlfirst off there is an lxle channel somwehere18:46
wxli forgot what it is but i know it's on their web page18:47
piratebootythey claim it is on this server18:47
piratebootyand in channel #lxle18:47
wxlhm18:47
piratebootybut there is only one person in there and it looks like a bot18:47
wxlit is18:47
wxlso you are using a remote computer18:47
wxland connecting via openvpn to your lxle machine?18:48
wxlor you have lxle on the remote computer?18:48
wxlor both?18:48
piratebootyno18:48
piratebootylet me explain better18:48
piratebootyI have LXLE machine18:48
piratebootythat is connected to a paid VPN service18:49
piratebootyvia OpenVPN18:49
wxl(i should also add, this is more of an openvpn question than a lubuntu/lxle/os question)18:49
piratebootywhile it is connected to that VPN18:49
piratebootyI cannot get to it from my work computer on a completely different network over the internet, through my router with port forwarding18:49
piratebootyif I disconnect from the VPN18:49
piratebootythen I can, no problem18:50
wxlso the work computer has the vpn service?18:50
piratebootyno, the LXLE does18:50
wxlso the lxle machine is running the openvpn SERVER?18:50
piratebootyno18:50
piratebootyjust a client18:50
piratebootyconnecting to a third party VPN service18:50
wxlso which machine is running the server?18:50
piratebootyneither of them18:50
piratebootyits a paid service, it connects to their servers18:51
wxlok so we're talking about 3 machines18:51
wxlso there's some unknown service that has machines that you connect to?18:51
piratebootyhehe18:51
piratebootyI am not explaining myself properly I think18:51
piratebootythe LXLE machine is connected to a third party VPN service that I pay for18:51
piratebootysomething like www.privateinternetaccess.com or Slickvpn.com18:52
wxland to be clear are you connecting to computers within this service's network or is it basically connecting you to some other machine?18:53
piratebootyits basically connecting me to their private servers18:53
wxlok18:53
wxlso is the lxle machine also known as your work computer?18:53
piratebootynope18:54
piratebootythats the home computer18:54
wxlso what's the work computer running?18:54
piratebootywindows18:54
wxland it's also trying to connect to this service?18:54
piratebootyno18:54
wxloh good lord18:55
piratebootyI am trying to access HTTP on the LXLE machine on a certain port18:55
piratebootythrough my router18:55
piratebootywith NAT rules or PortForwarding18:55
wxlfrom what computer?18:55
piratebootyfrom work18:55
piratebootyto LXLE18:55
wxlthrough the vpn?18:55
piratebootynope18:55
piratebootyover the internet18:55
wxlomg18:55
wxlso the vpn has nothing to do with it?18:56
piratebootynot really, only that when I am connected to that, I cannot connect to it from work18:56
piratebootybut when it's off, I can18:56
wxlwhen the lxle machine is connected to the vpn?18:56
piratebootyyes18:56
wxlwhat port are you using to connect to the router from the work machine and what port does it connect to on the lxle machine?18:57
piratebootysame port 9696 on both18:57
wxland what ports do you use to connect to the vpn?18:57
piratebooty44318:57
wxlstrange18:58
piratebootythe other weird thing is18:58
piratebootywhen it is connected to the vpn18:58
piratebootyI can access the lxle machine from another local machine on that port18:58
piratebootybut not from the internet18:58
piratebootyI have reviewed the logs of the router, and do show that it is in fact forwarding the packets18:59
piratebootyI don't know why it is not working o_018:59
wxlwindows -9696→ router -9696→ lxle works18:59
piratebootywith VPN off, yes18:59
wxlhm18:59
koellHow can I force PcManFM to show any folder in "detail view"? I always have to do this again and again...18:59
wxlthe local machine can access lxle just fine with the vpn off?18:59
piratebootyyes19:00
piratebootyeven when it is on19:00
piratebootylocal can always connect19:00
piratebootyvpn on or off19:00
wxloh you CAN19:00
wxlbizarre19:00
piratebootyyes, very strange19:00
wxlwell19:01
wxli can't tell you much19:01
piratebootyok19:01
wxlbut i can tell you it's highly unlikely that the issue lies in lxle, lxde, ubuntu, etc.19:01
wxlit shouldn't have anything to do with the OS19:01
piratebootyok19:01
piratebootymaybe its an OpenVPN thing?19:01
wxlin fact, i would suspect the issue must lie somewhere in that router of yours19:02
wxlthat or openvpn19:02
piratebootyok19:02
piratebootyI will check with them and see if they have any tips19:02
wxli'd try openvpn first19:02
piratebootythanks for your time19:02
wxlthey should be able to give you a quick answer19:02
piratebootysorry to drag it out19:03
wxloh no big deal19:03
wxlthese things are hard to explain sometime19:03
piratebootydang19:03
piratebootythey ban kiwiclient19:03
piratebootyprobably because of spam19:03
wxlkoell: i don't have lubuntu in front of me but did you check ~/.config/pcmanfm/default/pcmanfm.conf?19:06
koellwxl: yes there is an entry "view_mode=icon" but idk the value for detail view19:28
wxlkoell: it's in there19:30
wxli was hoping for something like (thing = one or two or three)19:30
koellyep the file exists but idk the config value19:30
wxlkoell: oops sorry about that last thing19:30
wxlhttp://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=81619:31
wxlthat help?19:31
koellwxl: no but this one did =) https://github.com/ssokolow/profile/blob/master/home/.config/pcmanfm/lubuntu/pcmanfm.conf#L2919:35
koellweird there is no conf documentation about pcmanfm in the manpage19:36
wxlkoell: now go edit the wiki documentation so we'll all know XD19:36
wxlmany of the lxde components lack documention19:36
wxlthe worst offender, though, is lightdm19:36
wxland THAT is funny because of how universally it is used throughout the canonical family19:36
koelllightdm is the login manager?19:38
wxlyeah19:38
wxlfor ubuntu proper even19:38
RoboatI want to use metacity. I did sudo apt-get install metacity. I clicked where all the WMs are listed. The only unusual one there is Openbox. o_019:39
koelli only know about .config/lxsession xD19:39
RoboatWhere is the file that controls the login manager so I can disable it and start a WM through .xinitrc?19:41
koellRoboat: i guess you have to create a new session folder in ~/.config/lxsession or copy the default lubuntu one and change yourself19:45
koellthats what i did with i3wm19:45
koellwb19:46
RoboatLooks like the session just tells the login manager what all to launch. Maybe I should just make a blank-ish type one so I don't have a DM19:48
koellRoboat: i copied the one from lubuntu and changed the autostart to killall lxde, pcmanfm and openbox19:49
koellstupid but works =)19:49
Roboatok, time to try this out19:51
Roboatgah19:55
Roboatok, that didn't work. i'll figure this out eventually :P19:55
koellRoboat: which wm would you like to install?19:56
Roboatmetacity19:56
Roboat...and remove the DE entirely :P19:57
MeXTuXWhen I drag a window I can see there is a tearing. Can that be fixed with Compton or xcompmgr? Video card is an integrated Intel. Ubuntu doesn't show the tearing and also installed Lubuntu on another machine but the problem was fixed after installing ATI drivers. With the Intel video card I can't try that but maybe a composition manager could help.21:31
MeXTuXAny idea?21:31
rafaellagunaMeXTuX, that's because you're not using a proprietary driver21:31
rafaellagunaa composite manager may improve it a bit, try Compton (xcompmgr is abandonware)21:31
josiah14Is there a way to configure lubuntu to not use the http proxy only when accessing specific domains?21:55
josiah14sort of like what you can do in a Windows PAC file...21:57
josiah14linux is not playing nice with my workplace's proxy settings21:57
josiah14driving me bonkers21:57
Unit193Well it the program supports libproxy.21:57
josiah14I think chrome supports it22:00
josiah14it's written in C++ anyway22:00
Unit193libproxy is poorly documented in Ubuntu, but it may just do what you need.22:01
josiah14yah, basically all I need is something that temporarily ignores my $HTTP_PROXY and related environment vars only when I access internal sites22:04
josiah14libproxy might give me the capability to write a script that does that, anyway22:04
Unit193Ahhh. I see.22:04
