gmballenap, rvba`, bigjools Awright?11:33
gmbMade it to internet at last.11:33
allenapgmb: Hello!11:33
gmbHola11:39

gmballenap: Do you need any help with the celery->RPC work?11:57
gmbOr rather: I'm free, Mr Humphries; what can I help with?11:57

gmballenap: I’d like to help with the RPC work; is there any reason I can’t start with the “periodically report boot images” task?16:07
gmb(although I have no idea how to do peridoic RPC tasks without celerybeat)16:08

onicromquestion... im seeing the following error in my maas.log17:15
onicromERROR 2014-08-06 13:08:35,490 maasserver ################################ Exception: {u'mac_addresses': [u'One or more MAC addresses is invalid.']} ################################17:15
onicromnot sure how it could be invalid, it pxe booted and its the actual mac17:15
=== roadmr is now known as roadmr_afk
onicromi think i figured it out17:59
onicrommaas is expecting the mac to have upper case letters.17:59
onicrom(which is not that obvious)17:59
allenapgmb: Sure, that’s a good one.18:13
allenaponicrom: That sounds like a bug; MAAS should allow both, or at least normalise automatically. I’ll file a bug.18:15
allenaponicrom: Was there any more detail to that error message?18:19
onicromfiled18:20
allenaponicrom: Thanks! I’d just seen that seconds ago.18:20
onicromallenap: its weird when i entered it using all caps the comissioning would fail18:20
onicromwhen i entered it lowercase18:21
onicromthe maas.log would error18:21
onicromthe UI seems to display lowercase either way18:21
onicromim now running into a weird issue with the dell.. i use serial over lan and as soon as the install gets to a certain point the drac remote management ip becomes unresponsive until i reboot the machine18:22
allenapblake_r, newell, jhobbs: ^18:27
newellallenap, howdy18:28
onicromalso unlreated question... what is maas using iscsi for?18:28
newellallenap, do you have  bug number?18:28
newellactually nm, I will look on launchpad18:29
allenapnewell: I was pointing you to the Dell issue onicrom is having.18:30
newellyeah I see the bug now18:30
newelloh so not the bug?18:31
newellokay18:31
onicrom(im less concerned about the bug i filed as i figured out the nuance)18:31
onicromi think it might have something to do with my preseed file as i started messing with the storage... but in either case i dont see why the dell's management interface becomes unresponse :(18:32
jhobbsonicrom: do you have to reboot the system manually?18:33
newellonicrom, can you pastebin your console output?18:33
onicromjhobbs: i have a kvm remote console which i can three finger solute18:33
jhobbsonicrom: it should reboot automatically after an install18:34
onicromwhich works and the DRAC responds as soon as the reboot is initiated18:34
onicromjhobbs: i doesnt actually start the install actually18:34
onicromit get stuck at the kernl booting screen before the install is initiated.18:34
jhobbshmm18:34
onicromjust happened again :( appears to be unlreated to my preseed as i restored the default18:35
onicromooh weird.... the dhcp ip is pingable18:35
jhobbsare you passing serial console parameters on the kernel command line?18:35
onicrombut my console (kvm and serial) has stopping printing18:35
onicromu am18:36
onicrom*i am18:36
onicrombut i have remote kvm too so i can watch watch would be on a monitor18:36
jhobbsconsole=ttyS0 and console=tty0 too?18:36
onicromyes18:36
onicromconsole=tty0 console=ttyS1,115200n818:36
newellonicrom, anytime I have run into that issue it is because I wasn't passing the correct kernel parameters that jhobbs is mentioning18:36
onicromto be exact18:36
jhobbshow are you passing them?18:37
onicromin the global kernel params18:37
onicromi see all the comissioning happen18:37
jhobbsah ok18:37
onicromvia console (and tty0)18:37
jhobbsare you doing a fastpath install or a debian installer install?18:37
jhobbsif it's fastpath, it's the same kernel/initrd as commissioning uses18:37
onicromdebian18:38
jhobbsit'd be worth trying fastpath to see if it's specific to the d-i kernel18:38
onicromi can certainly give that a try i want to see if the install actually works (i probably botched the last presee file)18:39
jhobbsk18:39
onicromthe machine is still pingable on its actual interface the drac is still offline :(18:39
onicromive noticed that with cd based installs too18:39
onicromwhen it goes to 'discover' the network devices18:39
jhobbswe test with a lot of dell/drac systems on a very regular basis18:40
onicromdrac management interface goes offline18:40
jhobbsi don't remember seeing that kind of behavior before18:40
onicromi am using the ghetto drac6e18:40
onicromso its using a 'shared' interface it doesnt have a dedicated nic18:40
jhobbsahh18:40
jhobbssound ripe for kernel/firmware interaction bugs18:40
onicromineed18:40
onicrom*indeed18:41
onicromi cant complain tooo much18:41
onicromx5670 x 2 96GB ram 6x600G drives with bbu raid card18:41
onicromfor like 3k18:41
onicromi bought 20 of them for this openstack poc :)18:41
onicromi mean i can always complain haha18:41
onicromi digress... i am still at a loss as to why my rmeote kvm is stuck at a kernel boot message though18:42
jhobbsis the kvm via drac or separte?18:50
jhobbsseparate18:50
jhobbsif you're seeing stuff in CD installs too it's likely not a MAAS specific issue though18:52
jhobbsyou might try #ubuntu-kernel or https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bugs for those18:53
onicromkvm is separate18:55
=== jfarschman is now known as MilesDenver
jhobbsdoes pxelinux print the kernel command line parameters for you prior to trying to boot linux?18:57
jhobbsmight be worth double checking that console=tty0 is still there18:57
onicromit did18:57
onicromi saw it in both18:57
jhobbsdang18:57
onicromthe host is still not booting but its in some state...18:57
onicromi cant ssh in (con refused)18:58
onicromdrac not reachable and kvm shows boot message that is stale...18:58
onicromid really like to see wtf is going on lol18:58
onicromthe install should ber finished but its possible its still going i gues...18:58
jhobbsssh would be up if the install finished, the system would reboot afterwards18:58
jhobbsbut then it wouldn't have an IP if it hung at early linux boot18:59
jhobbswouldn't respond to pings i mean18:59
onicroma reboot would re-enable drac18:59
onicromexactly :) its in some weird state18:59
jhobbsyou could try adding earlyprintk to the command line parameters18:59
=== roadmr_afk is now known as roadmr
jhobbsbut.. if it gets far enough to get an ip that's past earlyprintk time19:00
onicrombtw... what is iscsi used for?19:00
jhobbs"ephemeral" booting19:00
jhobbsduring enlistment, commissioning, install, nodes boot up via pxe and then mount iscsi for their root filesystem, with a ram only overlay19:01
jhobbsfastpath install that is, not d-i19:01
onicromwhat about d-i?19:01
jhobbsd-i is all contained in the initrd19:01
onicromgotcha19:01
onicromok i will try fast path on another node which i have kvm/serial (i only have 4 devices on kvm the rest are serial only :()19:02
jhobbshopefully that works, it's a lot better imo anyhow19:03
onicromi need to figure out how to customize that install :)19:08
jhobbsyeah it's something new to learn, but has the huge advantage of having a rich ubuntu environment during install19:09
onicromwell...i dont know the debian installer either19:10
jhobbsd-i is on top of busybox19:10
onicromi was starting to play with that i have no bias19:10
jhobbsno python, not even perl, i think you don't even get awk19:10
jhobbsmaybe sed19:10
onicromok fingers crossed building another box with fast now19:11
jhobbswell good luck, i'm off for the night19:11
onicromwooo19:12
onicromjhobbs: its working!19:12
onicromany docs around on customizing the install via fastpath19:20

bigjoolslamont: clusters and region appserver threads attempt to maintain bidirectional connections, without which maas won't work properly. It's possible you are firewalled since they currently use high-numbered ports for this.23:17
lamontwho creates the connection, I wonder?23:20
onicromrbasak: im looking to create a customized partition table, are there more specific exaples to configure curtin23:30
