[04:23] hello [04:23] I am looking for help [04:23] I dont know how to broadcast to my server my Icecast server I rent for so much cash. [04:24] lol [04:24] kidx: i used to use BUTT.. what are you using? [04:25] kidx: i think butt is a handy/easy tool for troubleshooting at least [04:25] well i bought radioboss [04:25] but runs not so well on linux [04:26] i see Internet DJ Consle [04:26] ok.. hav eyou tried BUTT? if not, consider trying it [04:26] but reuires alot of bs to do [04:26] kidx: not really [04:26] yea on windiows fine [04:27] kidx: what is "on windows fine" ? [04:27] but linux its not picking up my mic right [04:27] kidx: ? [04:27] I sound like a chip monk casue its mono [04:27] radioboss [04:27] radioboss [04:27] kidx: radioboss is not supported here [04:28] well i know that much but what is [04:28] kidx: you are assuming the cause is due to mono [04:28] i have a mono mic [04:28] so yeah [04:28] of course [04:28] kidx: ok [04:28] kidx: keep in mind a few handy things [04:29] audio technica 2500 [04:29] kidx: your audio device creator hasnt promised you can use the device in linux [04:29] true [04:29] so ill go back to windows then [04:29] thanks for the help [04:29] kidx: usb devices *should* be class compliant, so, its likely you are just having issues configuring [04:29] thought i couldexcape it [04:30] kidx: i say, if you literally just want to get going in a hurry, go back to "windows".. if you have time to work with supporting the hardware, we can help [04:30] time what u mean [04:30] i have all the time [04:30] time is nothing [04:30] kidx: a team of experts work to make sure all of your hardware works in windows.. you basically take that on yourself when you want to use linux.. or any unsupported OS like that [04:31] yea but ifyo dont support it or linux dont then why bother [04:31] unless you can help get it supported [04:31] or souning proper [04:31] if not ill go back to windows [04:31] not a big deal i just dont wanna waste so much time here for nothing [04:31] kidx: again, if you want to do this fast, go back [04:32] how long will it take [04:32] casue i pay for my server [04:32] kidx: i have no way of extimating how long it will take you [04:32] kidx: how long have you used windows? [04:32] take me for what [04:33] kidx: how long from when you started using windows til you starting streaming? [04:33] since late 90's [04:33] streaming [04:33] like radio [04:33] 2010 [04:33] kidx: i have *no* way to extimate how long it will take you to learn to use windows [04:33] i know windows [04:33] i am not dumb [04:33] i came here for help with linux [04:34] this is ubuntu studio correct [04:34] kidx: i am not sahying you are dumb.. i am saying, you spent 10+ years using windows [04:34] i alos used linux off and on [04:34] not pro [04:34] but i can get arond [04:34] kidx: you may not be able to just fire up *any* other operating system and just hit the ground running [04:34] true [04:35] there are differences.. and configurations.. and hardware support, that is not guranteed [04:35] but i do need a radio broadcasting expert [04:35] some one that knows what they are doing [04:35] so0 i can learn [04:35] kidx: sure.. you can use #opensourcemusicians [04:36] thats where i went when i started [04:36] otherwise, try BUTT, and other tools.. seperate your issues [04:36] you say, you have issues with streaming to icecast *and* a mic support issue with a USB device.. so.. seperate those.. [04:36] whats that [04:36] kidx: what is what? [04:36] kidx: seperation? [04:36] the open soucrce musicans [04:36] maybe they can help ill go there [04:37] just thought coming here would have more knowledgeable people [04:37] kidx: you asked 2 quesitons, friend.. just pull them apart is all === Azelphur_ is now known as Azelphur [04:38] kidx: dont troubleshoot using linux with new USB device and icecast all in one go [04:38] i am not [04:38] i am trying to figure our why i sound like a chip monk [04:38] kidx: you are not what? [04:38] so mono [04:38] read what i said [04:39] you dont have to question my replys lol [04:39] kidx: i would try running pavucontrol and see what is routing where [04:39] kidx: i might need to follow up with questions.. but, thats ok.. good luck to you.. im going to bed [04:40] kidx: you can try the main #ubuntu channel or an also channel.. or some audio technica support for your audio device.. since its not related to ubuntustuduio specifically.. cheers! [04:40] i am [04:40] #opensourcemusicians might also be good [04:40] i am running pavu [04:40] kidx: you are what? [04:40] I am running pvau [04:41] pulse audio [04:41] comes standard in ubuntu Studio i think [04:41] kidx: what are you routing through? [04:42] kidx: are you getting the hollow sound from the recording of the device? or just the streaming? or just in your headphones on some other audio device? [04:42] i sound like i am on helium [04:42] kidx: sure [04:42] kinda hard to explin [04:43] kidx: when? and under what circumstances? what other audio devices? how are you monitoring? how have you tested? [04:43] kidx: you'll be the only one who can explain.. and you'll need to.. try recording the audio to audacity and see if the recorded sound is "on helium".. try routing to a different source.. how are you monitoring? [04:43] just my onboard audio and web cam mic and ATR2500 [04:45] audio wont play [04:45] just keeps play 2 secs and stops [04:45] kidx: what sounds like helium then? [04:45] i m using pulse [04:46] kidx: so, you sound like helium for 2 seconds? [04:46] no [04:46] my audio only plays back for 2 secs [04:46] well in audacity [04:46] kidx: thats on the stream? becuase thats what id like to seperate.. *not* icecast *and* the streaming [04:46] no [04:47] this is sound from mic to audacity no stream [04:47] kidx: so, you record the audio, and its helium for 2 seconds and then no audio? in audacity? [04:47] i have nit broadcasted yet [04:47] not [04:47] kidx: you are *not* using jack, correct? [04:47] no [04:47] am i suspose to [04:47] casue i know nothign about jack [04:48] kidx: you are supposed to what? [04:48] kidx: are you using jack? [04:48] no [04:48] I am not using jack [04:48] kidx: ok.. you dont need it for audacity [04:48] i know nothign about it [04:48] jack is chineese language to me [04:48] i know jack about jack [04:49] kidx: ok.. you dont need to know anything about it.. [04:49] wish there was a course ion ubuntu studio\ [04:49] a course that teaches you [04:49] kidx, teaches you ... what? [04:50] kidx: all hardware is different.. [04:50] like the insides and out to live streamung and audio/video prodution [04:50] kidx, too much to ask. there are thousands of apps and packages. [04:50] kidx: it depends on what software you want to use, and what hardware you have.. and many other things [04:50] I know little on linux when it comes to radio broadcasting [04:50] kidx: what AT mic do you have? the ATR2500 ? [04:50] yes [04:51] kidx: the "helium" sound has *nothing* to do with broadcasting.. thats simple system config and audio [04:51] yea its cause linux dont support my mic [04:51] lol [04:51] kidx: are you able to playback audio through the mic's headhpones? [04:51] no [04:51] i cant [04:51] wont play [04:51] kidx, choose a medium: audio, video, photo, graphics, publishing. Choose a project. Work from the basics. "Podcasting with Audacity" is from the developers and will give you a pretty good foundation for that medium [04:52] kidx: linux is open.. if audio technica wants to support it, as they do other operating systems, they are welecome and encouraged [04:52] kidx: please open a terminal, and run.. [04:52] aplay -l [04:52] !paste [04:52] For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imgur.com/ !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. [04:53] paste event not found [04:53] weird [04:54] kidx: whats the output of aplay -l? [04:55] http://pastebin.com/HbUBfe77 [04:56] i know, i would try jack on it.. [04:56] !proaudio [04:56] For information on professional audio tools in Ubuntu, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/ProAudioIntro [04:57] wouldnt hurt.. you can always fire up a live CD and play around if you are afraid you will break something.. [04:57] kidx: anyways.. before you play around with jack, are you able to play audio with *any* audio device? the internal card? [04:57] yea [04:57] was able to in browser [04:58] but then browser stop playing and now freezes [04:58] kinda weird I just install this os [04:58] kidx: pull up a known good audio file in something like vlc .. not flash in browser.. try and isolate these things.. dont use a web browser when testing the audio since you dont have to [04:58] hmm [04:58] ok [04:58] proaudio still references 12.04. 14.04 update in the works??? [04:59] i would get the known good simple audio file playing in vlc or whatever audio player.. then route it in pavucontrol to the mic and see if you can make it work [04:59] cfhowlett: are you volunteering :) [05:00] holstein, too many demands on my time to do much, but I can do some things incrementally. [05:00] cfhowlett: yeah, i was just giving you are hard time.. i havent been able to make much time either [05:01] holstein, looks like only the main US page shows current release ... [05:01] yea [05:01] i think thats correct, though [05:01] or, preferred, or whatever [05:01] the pavu is not looking right [05:01] i dont see built in [05:02] arghhh [05:02] kidx: cool.. just let us know any details [05:02] built in audio is not there [05:02] lol [05:02] kidx: you can tak screenshots or whatever [05:02] i have to upload them [05:02] hold on [05:02] kidx: one thing i suggest is to just simply look for and apply updates and reboot [05:02] already done so [05:02] kidx: alsa software updates and kernel updates can "fix" many things [05:03] done that [05:03] also they can break as well [05:03] kidx: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade [05:03] 50/50 [05:03] kidx: you *have* breakage, that we are trying to address.. [05:03] i also tried to installed airtime [05:03] anyways, if you want to use linux and be online, you update [05:04] but no go it is bugged even they say so [05:04] kidx: you may want to just use the live CD then, and see if anything you have done has broken your system [05:04] kidx: im assuming a fresh install when im working with you [05:04] yea [05:04] i am thinking same thing [05:05] kidx: you dont need to think anything. you can literally tell me if its a fresh install, or not [05:05] or, if you have tried to install things like "airtime" or whatever [05:07] yea airtime [05:07] i tried to install it [05:07] but it gave me an error [05:07] kidx: sure.. so, you *dont* have a fresh install [05:07] no [05:07] i hust installed not long ago [05:07] kidx: so, try the live CD, test your audio.. if it works as expected, then, you broke your audio [05:08] my mic records but no sound yet it shows sounds? [05:08] wow [05:08] kidx: but, you are having issues monitoring.. i dont think you can assume its not recording [05:08] recording s fine [05:08] its playback [05:09] could be alsa [06:28] hello everyone. I need some help here I may have uninstalled something my desktop is a bit messed up. no icons etc and the windows look a bit strange. no x button to close windows. any help please [06:29] staxxx, you did something to your desktop environment (xfce4). the only fix I know of is a bit radical. kill all the configuration files, logout/login. that will set everything back to the defaults [06:29] i think it has something to do with metacity. i cant do metacity --replace on the cli somehow [06:30] if i kill all the configutarion files the desktop will revert to the states as if it was freshly installed? [06:31] staxxx, exactly. but test first. logout / login to the Guest account. if that account looks normal, the problem/fix is limited to YOUR account, not a global OS issue. the fix I suggested would cure it. [06:33] but that would erase my desktop as i know it? my desktop is customized, panels etc [06:33] I'd had to do it all over again? [06:33] staxxx, "reset to defaults" means exactly that. you'd have to re-configure [06:41] how do i reset to defaults? and is there any other way? [06:42] staxxx, delete /home/.config/xfce4 I know of no other way to restore the default arrangement [06:56] i just logged into a guest account and the problem is the same as the user account [06:56] any hints? [06:57] staxxx, you changed something at the global OS then. Ask #xfce [07:02] hystory [07:31] still no results before reinstalling === Pici` is now known as Pici [15:41] Hi there everyone! can someone help me with xrun problem I have? [15:44] neva: just ask, and we'll see [15:44] unfortunately, so much of that can be tied to driver support [15:44] for "Fixing" xruns, i would try relaxing the jack settings.. but, if you need sub 10ms latency, you need it.. and you'll likely just need to troubleshoot and see if you can get it [15:45] it really depends on what you are doing.. personally, if i cant get under or around 10ms, then, i cant do "realtime" on that machine or audio hardware.. i just dont use that hardware for realtime audio effect processing or software synths [15:51] I have two m-audio delta 1010lt cards synced with spdif. I have launched jackd like was explained on remastersys forums "how to run 2 m-audio..." everything works like should but when I try to record with mixbus or ardour I get lots of xruns [15:51] i would try removing variables [15:52] is it becuase you are linking 2 cards? do you need low latency? is it just mixbus? ardour2? ardour 3? [16:01] with one card I had no xruns [16:02] my goal is to get Live play/recording to work [16:03] I use mudita24 digital mix for monitoring and it works fine [16:04] I tried with ardour 3 and mixbus 2.5 with same results [16:10] neva: then, i would use one card for that [16:10] AFAIK, its pretty common to take a hit in performance for that funcitonality [16:11] but I tried to record only on track and I get millions of xruns [16:12] neva: with both cards? and with only one, no xrun issue? [16:13] neva: can you relax the settings with 2 cards and get no or less xruns? [16:13] neva: you should try and seperate your goals.. your goal is to link 2 devices, *and* do live play [16:13] with one card I just started qjacktl and found frames/period setting that worked [16:13] neva: you may not be able to do both at the same time [16:14] you dont need 2 cards for "live" effect processing or software synths.. so, you may have to do one at a time [16:16] I dont need to that many instruments through the mixbus and to be heard on the PA [16:19] my main problem now is that I cant even get one track to record without xruns [16:21] neva: you can with only one deivce, correct? [16:21] neva: if so, relax your settings with the 2 devices [16:21] neva: linking devices together can effect performance [16:22] my drums needs 8 tracks to record and only two for monitoring [16:25] how I do relax settings ? what parameters should be adjusted [16:30] neva: the jack settings [16:30] I have to start jackd on command line [16:31] frames per period and periods per buffer [16:31] neva: then, you are responsible for configuing the settings
