pittidpm: ^ perhaps you happen to know08:34
ogra_pitti, not 100% sure but i think thats accountservice08:34
dpmpitti, I don't know, but I saw a translator getting confused by that message (I've never seen it myself)08:34
dpmpitti, or perhaps libusermetrics?08:35
pittidpm: err, it's the standard message in the lock screen08:35
ogra_pitti, mterry can give you a definite answer08:35
ogra_pitti, that shouldnt be ... then something is broken for you08:35
pittiogra_: I think have about four different things which are called like "accounts service" :)08:35
ogra_haha08:35
ogra_yeah08:35
dpmpitti, on the lock (welcome?) screen I see only my stats, no "No data sources available"08:36
pittiogra_: you mean you see that string in German?08:36
ogra_for some of the info it is german08:36
ogra_depends on the app that sends it08:36
pittiwell, I don't have any stats, this is a freshly wiped phone08:36
ogra_if you see the fallback string there is surely something wrong08:36

oSoMoNdoes anyone know how memory is managed when an app is quit? I’m seeing neither Component.onDestruction nor Qt.application.aboutToQuit being called, not even destructors of custom C++ components…09:06
ogra_oSoMoN, i think it just sends SIGKILL09:09
oSoMoNogra_, actually, even sending sigquit to the app doesn’t seem to emit those signals or call the dtors, that’s suspicious isn’t it?09:10
oSoMoNthat is, it works fine on desktop, but not on a device09:10
ogra_dunno, would it normally process all that by default when an external kill signal comes in ?09:10
ogra_ricmm, ^^^09:11
oSoMoNogra_, ah indeed, it doesn’t do that even on desktop when getting a kill signal, my bad09:13
oSoMoNthat’s unfortunate as I have no way of knowing when my app is going to be quit09:13
oSoMoNit also means that cleanup handlers in every layer of the code are never called…09:14
dpmogra_, would you happen to know from which project the Shutdown/Restart dialog when you long-press the on/off button comes from? I'm trying to figure out where to report a bug at09:14
pittiogra_: hm, I sent a SMS now, "1 text messages sent today" -> still not translated; does that work for you?09:17
ogra_yes09:17
ogra_well, as i said, messaging-app isnt translated here either09:17
ogra_music and camera send proper german strings09:17
Chipacapitti: hiya. got a minute or five?09:18
pittiogra_: you mean it appears in German to you? I'm currently digging through messaging-app, seems the pot is again out of date or so (I just completed the translations in LP, but the strings that I saw weren't there)09:20
pittiChipaca: what's up?09:20
Chipacapitti: dunno if you remember the system settings branch I asked you about, wrt translations09:20
ogra_pitti, right, photos and messages have german strings here09:20
Chipacapitti: I don't know how the translated strings are extracted, in that building the package doesn't result in new extracted strings09:21
Chipacapitti: was trying to figure that out, and dpm referred me to you09:21
pittiChipaca: I don't remember, I'm afraid09:21
Chipacapitti: https://code.launchpad.net/~chipaca/ubuntu-system-settings/push-helper/+merge/22957109:21
Chipacaclearly the strings are extracted by something, but I don't know what. There are commits by "launchpad automatic translation update" with those changes, but I don't know how to test nor trigger that.09:22
jibeldpm, I think it's unity809:23
pittiChipaca: "LP automatic translation update" happens by LP itself, if you configure it that new/changed translations shoudl be auto-committed to trunk09:25
pittiChipaca: apparently that's on for our touch projects; but this of course relies on an always up to date PO template (.pot)09:25
Chipacapitti: updated in the branch, or in the package?09:27
pittiChipaca: in the branch09:27
Chipacaok, so presumably there's a make target or something i need to run to update that09:29

pittiChipaca: in the last branch I touched, it was "cd obj-*/po; make pot"09:31
pittiChipaca: but I hope that there's a simpler way09:31
Chipacapitti: :) ok09:31
Chipacamardy: also if you could illuminate me wrt how to update the pot, I believe I put everything in place for it to Just Work but need test (and do it)09:32
mardyChipaca: AFAIK, you don't need to update the pot09:33
Chipacamardy: on the one hand, tell me more about this black magic :)  on the other, i'd like to at least test the pot updating since I added to the mechanism that should do so09:33
Chipacabecause it didn't get strings from python files and now it does (in my branch)09:34
mardyChipaca: I'm afraid I can't help you much. But IIRC it was "make pot"09:42
mardyChipaca: but don't submit the result09:42
ricmmogra_:09:42
ricmmoSoMoN: so we've been over this a couple of times, apps need to put themselves in a "ready to die unknowingly" state as soon as they as suspended09:43
oSoMoNricmm, got it, but that doesn’t apply to manually quitting an app from the dash09:43
ricmmright, about that one, there is a plan to resume then for when that signal is issued09:44
ricmmits just been low on the list09:44
ricmmoSoMoN: but it can be done :) whats the instant benefit of it right now?09:44
oSoMoNricmm, but that’s ok, I found an approach that will ensure my app doesn’t need to be aware of when it’s quit09:44
ricmmgreat, but as I said, for manual quitting we could do the resume, because its a user action09:45
ricmmbut for low memory cleanup we cant09:45
oSoMoNright09:45
ricmmoSoMoN: is this for the browser?09:47
oSoMoNricmm, yes09:47
ricmmdid you guys ever start using things like the state saver and so on for the open tabs?09:48
oSoMoNricmm, I’m implementing that right now, but not using the state saver because we also want to preserve sessions across reboots09:48
oSoMoNricmm, so I’m saving the session persisently under ~/.local/share/webbrowser-app/, and I was trying to use a lock file to ensure that two instances of the app wouldn’t override each other’s sessions when run on desktop (doesn’t apply on touch where only one single instance is allowed to run anyway)09:49
ricmmwhy do we want to preserve sessions across rebots?09:49
oSoMoNricmm, because you don’t want to loose all your open tabs if you reboot your device09:50
oSoMoNricmm, that’s how other browsers do it too09:50
ricmmwell, up to you, I think there was design that said all apps should cycle their caches on reboot09:50
tvossoSoMoN, why not use an sqlite database? should take care of the locking automagically09:50
ricmmbut to be fair... I dont mind09:51
ricmmalthough one thing is true09:51
ricmmI have about 70 tabs on my android09:51
ricmm65 of which I havent used in months09:51
ricmmlol09:51
pittidpm: how much effort is it for you to refresh http://projects.davidplanella.org/stats/utopic/de?09:51
oSoMoNricmm, heh :) that’s a different issue though, tabs management can be a time-consuming task09:51
ricmmits horrible09:51
ricmmI'm always waiting for the day when the phone needs an update, they do get cycled then09:51
ricmmheh09:52
Chipacamardy: right! got it. you "make pot" in the *build* dir, and it updates the pot in the *source* dir09:53
Chipacamardy: and it works :)09:53
Chipacamardy: so what do i do now?09:53
mardyChipaca: nothing, don't update the file :-)09:53
Chipacamardy: i mean to advance the landing of this branch09:53
oSoMoNtvoss, can I lock a sqlite db for writing during the entire lifetime of an instance of the app?09:56
tvossoSoMoN, yup, http://www.sqlite.org/lockingv3.html09:57
oSoMoNinteresting09:58
oSoMoNI’d need an exclusive lock on the db for the entire duration of the app’s run09:59
dpmpitti, it just takes me a minute, so no effort, but unfortunately I'm dependant on the daily LP autocommits. So as there is no LP translations API I cannot query the stats from LP, so every day I do a bzr pull of each project listed to get the stats directly from the po files. So even if I refresh the stats now, as we're past the time exports have been committed, the stats will be the same10:03
pittidpm: ah, ok; I thought this was the stats on LP10:03
pittidpm: I translated a good chunk now, I'll see in a week when I'm back from holiday :)10:03
dpmI'd love it to be live stats, but I can't unless I do screen-scraping, which is not something I'm actually considering :)10:04
dpmsure, or tomorrow if you still happen to be online10:05
pittidpm: no, I won't10:06

Chipacahow do i request a wakelock? (where can i read about that?)12:41
Chipacarsalveti: is that ^ a question for you?12:43
ogra_i dont think your app can, only a truted helper will12:44
Chipacarsalveti: (btw: hi. Also btw: news about sound profiles?)12:44
ogra_*trusted12:44
rsalvetiChipaca: sorry, not yet, will ping you soon12:44
rsalvetiChipaca: only system services can request a wakelock12:44
rsalvetivia powerd12:44
ChipacaI thought push notifications counted as a system service12:44
Chipacaa trusted one at that12:45
rsalvetiChipaca: can you explain what you're trying to implement?12:45
Chipacarsalveti: waking the device from deep sleep to check notifications12:45
tvossChipaca, is that for push or for poll?12:46
rsalvetiChipaca: right, that needs to be a hwalarm (platform-api) and then a suspend blocker once the device is up12:46
rsalvetitvoss: poll12:46
rsalvetipush can't wake up the device unless via sms or phone calls12:46
Chipacarsalveti: yes, got platform api, am looking around for the suspend blocker12:46
Chipacaum12:47
Chipacarsalveti: this is for push12:47
rsalvetibut a push that is actually a poll, right?12:47
tvossChipaca, why would push need to wake the device?12:47
Chipacatvoss: to check for notifications?12:47
rsalvetiyour process is waking up the device to check for something, so that's more of a poll :-)12:47
Chipacarsalveti: well, yes, it needs to poll until we implement waking via special sms'es12:48
Chipacarsalveti: yes. The service that polls is called push notifications.12:48
Chipacawe'd need to implement poll even if we had waking via special sms'es, anyway, because those don't always go through12:49
=== dandrader|afk is now known as dandrader
Chipacatvoss: rsalveti: push will poke polld for it to go check its things also, btw12:49
tvossChipaca, what is the wakeup frequency we are talking about here?12:50
Chipacatvoss: configurable. 15 minutes? 5?12:50
tvossChipaca, well, the less frequent the better12:50
rsalvetiright12:50
Chipacaagreed, to a point12:50
tvossChipaca, what is the duration of staying awake?12:50
Chipacai'd argue that polling once an hour is pretty useless :)12:50
Chipacatvoss: again configurable; i'd say ~a minute worst case?12:51
Chipacaworst case == the network takes a long time to come up, and is then slow12:51
rsalvetiChipaca: so I'd assume you first need to wake up the device, and keep the cpu on until the check for notifications is done12:53
rsalvetiChipaca: then you'd also want to present that to the user, and how would that happen?12:53
rsalvetiChipaca: waking up the screen for the timeout period or just enabling the led notification?12:53
rsalvetivibrating and such12:53
rsalvetiChipaca: to keep the cpu on (not screen), you need to request a system state from powerd: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/powerd12:54
Chipacarsalveti: yes, the loop AIUI right now would be: set alarm for N mins in the future. Block waiting for it (in a goroutine). Once fired, grab wakelock, wait for network, poke polld, check notifications, wait for polld ack, wait for notifications to be presented, release wakelock12:54
rsalvetiand release when done12:54
rsalvetiChipaca: so I'd assume you need to turn the screen on when presenting the notifications12:55
Chipacarsalveti: notifications would just vibrate, go to the messaging menu etc; if the screen is off you won't see bubbles12:55
rsalvetithat would need to happen via the system-compositor api12:55
Chipacano, no screen on12:55
rsalvetioh, perfect then12:55
Chipacais there a way to answer "did the device go to deep sleep"?12:57
Chipacaor do i use heuristics?12:57
Chipacaman, i wish i had a device that actually deep slept :-(13:00
rsalvetiChipaca: have a flo?13:00
rsalvetiChipaca: otherwise with a mako, remove your sim13:00

* Chipaca throws the sim out the window13:01

tsdgeosis it me or clicking the "new" icon in the calendar all doesn't seem to do anything?14:13
popeytsdgeos: wfm14:19
tsdgeospopey: not the hamburger -> new14:19
tsdgeosbut the new that is directly besides the hambuger14:19
popeythats not new14:20
popeythats "go to today"14:20
popeyso if you're on today, yeah, it won't do anything14:20
ogra_now i'm hungry14:20
tsdgeospopey: lol, is it?14:21
tsdgeosok, then we need tooltips ;)14:21
nik90tsdgeos, popey: no the icon needs to be changed. I had the same issue before as well14:21
popeyeh?14:22
popeyi see a box with a tick in it14:22
popeynew is a box with a +14:22
popeydpm: https://translations.launchpad.net/camera-app/trunk/+pots/camera-app/en_GB/19/+translate what do you propose?14:23
dpmpopey, "Rubbish bin"14:23
popeyhaha14:23
dpmsorry, couldn't resist14:23
dpmpopey, I'd send another translation suggestion14:24
popeyto revert it back?14:24
dpmI'd translate it as the original to be consistent with the rest of the apps14:24
popeyk14:24
popeydone14:24
nik90popey: true but a calendar icon with a tick inside doesn't really say "Today".. I don't have ideas on how to fix it, but it is a bit confusing icon IMO14:26
popeywell indeed14:26
rsalvetikdub: is that happening on every device?14:33
rsalvetibecause the tls slots should be the same for all of them14:33
kdubrsalveti, its apparently krillin only14:35
kdubbut, I'm just going from the bug comments14:35
rsalvetiafaik bad context was a quite common warning14:36
kdubit might be, but its raising SIGILL on a eglMakeCurrent, so this one seems like a warning related to the real cause14:37
rsalvetioh, yeah14:38
Randy_OHi everyone, anyone with CMake experience? I've got everything set to compile and build, but when I run the main.qml file, it tells me that my plugin module is not installed. Any ideas how to point it to the right place?14:38
rsalvetiinteresting that I'm getting a crash and no BAD_CONTEXT14:38
kdubmaybe there's a missing hybris hook?14:43

olliSaviq, ricmm suggests to bump https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8/+bug/1338430 to critical in order to gain better UX, are you OK with putting that on your list?15:13
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1338430 in Unity 8 "Slow loading/showing of images in the dash" [Undecided,Confirmed]15:13
rsalvetikdub: could be as well, but interesting that the workaround is not related with that15:13
ollipmcgowan, ^15:13
Saviqolli, it kind of is on our list15:13
pmcgowanolli, yeah I think we need to15:14
Saviqolli, at least improving it in some ways15:14
Saviqolli, done15:14
olliSaviq, thx!15:18
pmcgowankdub, rsalveti you guys have thoughts on that gallery issue?15:22
nik90sergiusens: hi, dholbach came quite close to fixing the debian packaging along with your cmake fixes. We have still have a bit more to do since it doesn't seem to run on the device using the generated click package. It just shows a failed event without so much saying why it doesn't run15:23

mptOhhh … I can set a passcode, turn on Developer Mode, then get rid of the passcode15:28
mptThat probably isn’t a good idea15:29
ogra_mpt, the backend isnt replaced yet15:29
mptogra_, what does that mean?15:29
ogra_mpt, adbd will not start if no password is set, it checks that explicitly15:29
ogra_the UI will pick that up once these bits have been replaced underneath15:30
ogra_(read: this is not final yet)15:30
ogra_the actual implementation switches off dev mode along with the password going away15:30
mptogra_, so when you go back to the Developer Mode screen the switch will be off?15:31
ogra_yes15:31
mptexcellent15:31
ogra_i cant replace adb until everyone is ready for that switch ... thats why it still behave like that15:31
ogra_(lab testing, SDK, phablet-tools, everyone uses adb ... switching that to not run as root means a lot of assumptions need correcting ;) )15:32
rsalvetipmcgowan: I'd need to check, will try to get to that later today15:39
pmcgowanrsalveti, thanks15:40

squintyany web page for instructions on dual-booting ubuntu-touch and kitkat 4.4 on a google nexus 7?  I have a utube tutorial video that covers that topic but wish to cross reference the information before attempting the process.  thanks. :)18:28
squintyoh.. nexus 7 (2013)18:29
mzanettijhodapp: hey18:30
jhodappmzanetti, just wanted to follow up about what you asked me yesterday with that crash18:31
mzanettiah, right.18:31
mzanettijhodapp: I haven't been able to track it down18:31
mzanettijhodapp: I could get as far as this:18:31
mzanettijhodapp: the crash happens in /usr/bin/unity818:32
mzanettiit leads to the MediaPlayer somewhere18:32
mzanettijhodapp: last thing happening in unity is the media player app being launched18:32
jhodappmzanetti, it seemed to me that something is going out of scope before it should and that makes media-hub crash18:32
mzanettijhodapp: thing is, the dash is not part of unity8 any more18:33
mzanettijhodapp: which means, I'm struggling to see what could have been using the media player in unity18:33
mzanettijhodapp: all I could think if is notifications18:33
mzanettiso maybe some notification sound, the media player is launched and that collides somehow... but seems a bit far-fetched too...18:34
jhodappmzanetti, but what sound would play then?18:34
mzanettino clue...18:34
mzanettiSaviq: did you have any better ideas regarding this? ^18:34
jhodappmzanetti, have you watched the media-hub log live? tail -f /home/phablet/.cache/upstart/media-hub.log18:35
mzanettijhodapp: this happens in automated testing18:35
Saviqmzanetti, nope, nothing more18:35
mzanettijhodapp: that random input stuff18:35
jhodappmzanetti, oh I see18:35
Saviqwe should have a camera recording ↑ 18:35
mzanettijhodapp: I asked if we could maybe supply it with some screen recording somehow...18:35
mzanettiSaviq: yeah, I asked robotfuel about it. He said he might have some ideas18:36
mzanettirobotfuel: hey, maybe having the media-hub.log would be useful too...18:37
jhodappmzanetti, that's a good idea18:37
ajalkaneTrying to run autopilot tests on desktop. Anyone know what I should install when getting this error:19:00
ajalkaneImportError: No module named ubuntuuitoolkit19:00
robotfuelajalkane: apt-get install ubuntu-ui-toolkit-autopilot19:01
ajalkanerobotfuel: thanks, that did it19:03
nik90mzanetti: quick question, if I provide an example from online, say http://api.geonames.org/search?q=Samoa&maxRows=10&username=krnekhelesh will that still work with Qt XMLReader that you implemented?19:17
nik90mzanetti: In the loadTimeZonesFromXml() function, you use QFile to provide the XML file to the XMLReader. But say instead I provide a link to it after replacing QFile appropriately that should still work, right?19:19
arketypHi. Sorry, I'm a little bit lost in the documentation. I'm wondering if anyone knows the status with multitouch gestures for the 2nd gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon...?19:52
arketypCurrently I only have two-finger gestures working, out of the box.19:53
arketypThe touchpad that is, not the screen. Maybe I'm in the wrong forum.19:55

zeusz4uanyone online?21:56
zeusz4uneed help!!!21:56
zeusz4ucan anyone help me?22:00
Beldarzeusz4u, state the issue for assistance.22:01
zeusz4uI'm having issues installing Ubuntu Touch on a Nexus 7 2013 flo22:01
zeusz4uhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/508784/issues-installing-ubuntu-on-nexus-7-2013-cant-get-past-the-ubuntu-recovery-imag22:01
zeusz4uI have also posted my question here22:01
zeusz4uthe problem is I cannot get past the Ubuntu recovery screen22:01
zeusz4uAccording to the instructions it should be pretty straight forward22:02
zeusz4uno input needed from the user22:02
zeusz4uno matter what option I chose there, I always end up booting into Android22:02
Beldardude calm down, you 're disappointed anyway, this is free help treat it as such.22:03
zeusz4uSecure Boot enabled and Lock State is Unlocked22:03
zeusz4ui know... it's in development22:04
zeusz4uunder development22:04
zeusz4uI didn't expect to have such issues... after all, every Nexus 7 2013 device has the same firmware...22:04
zeusz4uso if it works on one, it should work on every single device22:05
zeusz4uAny ideas what I am doing wrong?22:06
zeusz4uI followed the step-by-step guide in the official Ubuntu Touch tutorial22:07
zeusz4uand I think something's wrong, and I should not be getting this error in the terminal:22:07
zeusz4uCannot cleanup tree to ensure clean deploymentexit status 25522:07
zeusz4umaybe I should try a different channell?22:08
zeusz4uI mean, software channell22:08
cwaynethe only thing that looks different is that it's from a VM22:08
cwayneim not sure that should matter though22:09
cwayneid rm -rf ~/.cache/ubuntuimages and try again22:09
zeusz4uI don't know how to configure virtualbox to connect the device automatically, and directly access the physical USB ports whenever the tablet is connected...22:10
zeusz4uI always have to go to Devives > USB Devices, and enable the tablet22:10
zeusz4uthe adb devices will list the tablet22:10
zeusz4uand shows it's in recovery mode22:10
cwayneif its in recovery, you shouldn't be doing --bootstrap22:10
zeusz4uI also have a first gen Nexus 7, but I see that is no longer supported22:11
zeusz4uBy the way, by unlocking I think I've voided my warranty anyway :)22:11
zeusz4ui don't care too much about it22:12
cwaynenope22:12
cwayneI've called google to ask about that specifically22:12
cwayneit doesn't void warranty :)22:12
zeusz4uwell that's good news22:12
zeusz4uit showed me a warning at some point22:12
zeusz4uthat unlocking the bootloader might void warranty22:12
cwayneyeah but I've called and asked them specifically and they said it didnt22:16
zeusz4u~$ ubuntu-device-flash --channel=devel 2014/08/08 17:36:14 Expecting the device to expose an adb interface... 2014/08/08 17:36:14 exit status 25522:39
zeusz4ui'm getting this error when I try to execute the command without --bootstrap22:39
zeusz4uI deleted the cache files22:40
zeusz4uand I'm redownloading them now22:40
squintyzeusz4u:  fwiw, just about an hour or so ago I installed ubuntu-touch on my google nexus 7 (2013) using the information at the following page (and a couple of other links)  http://allhackersnews.com/2013/12/multiboot-system-multirom-nexus-5nexus-7.html22:41
zeusz4udid you keep Android?22:43
zeusz4uI don't need Android now, I have a different Nexus 7 first gen tablet which is running android22:44
zeusz4ubtw, I've seen MultiROM on youtube22:44
zeusz4ufingers crossed, it's uploading the images to my device22:45
zeusz4uI'm at the Ubuntu Recovery screen, once again22:45
zeusz4umaybe I'll try the stable channell now22:46
zeusz4uor maybe stick with Android22:47
squintyzeusz4u:  fwiw, I installed Ubuntu touch on my google nexus 7 (2013) an hour or so ago and didn't have any problems doing it.  followed the directions at (as well as a couple of other links)  http://allhackersnews.com/2013/12/multiboot-system-multirom-nexus-5nexus-7.html23:19
squintyzeusz4u:  not really sure if I am that thrilled about it to be honest though...early days yet though.  Then again, android doesn't really either for that matter which is why I was interested in seeing what Ubuntu Touch could do23:21
cwaynesquinty: any specifics of whats wrong?23:29
zeusz4uI was also interested to see it in action23:31
zeusz4uand play with it for a couple of weeks23:31
zeusz4uI would probably have reintalled Android 4.4.4 anyway, as stock version was 4.4.2, and system updates was not yet picking up any further system updates23:32
zeusz4uI did a reinstall from factory image a few minutes ago23:32
zeusz4uone think i frogot to do is to use sudo when tried installing ubuntu23:33
zeusz4ui ran it with my current user's privileges23:33
cwayneis there a test suite for reminders?23:45
