shay_shayhello, i'm getting deadlocks when writing large amounts of data to my HDD12:07
shay_shaycpu load never is higher than 30%12:07
shay_shayi cant seem to find a bug report for it. is there a way to filter the bug reports by version?12:12

smoseranyone else have a recent upgrade causing compiz to eat cpu?13:46
smoserits basically sitting at 50-60% cpu usage, and X at 10-20%13:46
danielhyuugahi is there anyway to submit feedback of ubuntu 14.10?13:48
smoserdanielhyuuga, generally i think bugs are the most common way.13:49
danielhyuuganah not reporting bugs, just some feedback13:50
danielhyuugaoooh u mean use the bug report thing?13:51
PiciWhat sort of feedback?13:54
danielhyuugathe appearance13:55
danielhyuugaliked the new appearance but it would be nice if the menu bar app window stays the same like how v13 & v14 appear, that ¨compact¨ menu bar thing14:01
danielhyuugalooks great on bigger screen but netbooks screens disagreed with it14:01
smoserfwiw, just opened https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/135519614:58
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1355196 in unity (Ubuntu) "unity crashes on login, compiz cpu and memory intensive" [Undecided,New]14:58
shay_shayhello. i noticed on kernel 3.16 i am having deadlocks when trying to copy large files. I switched to 3.15.9 and the problem went away. I couldn't find the bug on the bug tracker, but maybe i'm not searching for the right keywords?22:41
jtaylorwhich filesystem are you using?22:42
shay_shaybtrfs. at first I thought it was due to my file system but they helped me in #btrfs determine it was not, and then by asking around I found someone who had the same problem with ext4 (a trusted source, not just a random person)22:45
shay_shayit seems to be file system independent so far22:47
shay_shaythe test is, copy  a linux iso from one directory to another, and the cpu load will never go above 30%, but on 3.16 my mouse and keyboard will lock up for a few seconds at a time until the transfer is done22:48
shay_shayon 3.15 its normal, i can continue to multi task22:49
jtaylorhm I guess you could bisect the kernel to find the change that caused it22:50
shay_shaythis looks simple enough https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection22:52
shay_shayi can do that22:52
shay_shayi am assuming someone else has reported it as it took me less than ten minutes to find another who had the same problem... however i cant figure out how to search the bugs22:54
shay_shayi dont see an "advanced" search anywhere22:54
jtayloryou mean on launchpad?22:56
rwwhttps://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bugs?advanced=122:56
jtayloradvanced search is below the search bar22:56
jtaylorbut maybe the bug has not been reported there yet22:56
jtaylorI'd first try a mainline kernel if the issue is present there too, I think there are prebuilt binaries for them somewhere22:56
rwwhttp://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/22:57
rww(it's not actually a PPA, the URL lies)22:57
jtayloryes that22:57
jtaylorbisecting manually via the rcs should also help narrowing down the commits you have to bisect in the source22:58
shay_shayyeah i tried upgrading the kernel, although i didnt try ALL of the 3.16 kernels23:00
shay_shayso i should narrow it down to the first kernel with the problem and the bisect it23:00
shay_shaythen*23:00
jtaylorwell you can try 3.16rc1 and if it has the issue you will have to bisect from 3.15 to 3.16rc1. else from rc1 to what is in utopic now23:02
jtayloror just start on the source directly, I guess it depends on how fast your machine builds the kernel23:02
shay_shayinstalling rc1 now23:04
TaZeRhey guys im having an issue with buntu 14.10 and creating a persistance liveusb23:05
TaZeRthe usual methods before arnt working23:05
TaZeRwould someone be kind enough to enlighten me?23:05
BeldarTaZeR, The usb loaders have a option to do this, what is the issue in detail, I have about  min to help you.23:42
Beldar5 min*23:42
shay_shay3.16rc1 wouldnt even boot23:57
shay_shayi'll take a crack at the git bisect thing in a few days23:58
